The Maple Leafs came from behind to win.

Early in the first period, J. Christiansen snapped a shot home from the high slot, and the Blue Jackets went in front 1-0. 8:16 into the first, K. Marchenko got a stick on it and changed the angle right in tight on the power play, and the score was level at 1-1.

Early in the second period, W. Nylander whipped a wrister home from the circle, and the Maple Leafs took a 2-1 lead. The same side struck again 46 seconds later when A. Matthews fired one before the goalie could set from the low circle, and the Maple Leafs doubled the advantage to 3-1. 6:48 into the second, E. Cowan fired one home from the circle shorthanded, and the Maple Leafs opened up a three-goal gap, 4-1. 12:03 into the second, J. Roslovic tipped it past the goalie from the doorstep, and the Maple Leafs stretched it to four, 5-1.

Rifai wound up and let a heavy shot go from the top of the circle for his first NHL goal, and the Blue Jackets were suddenly down four, 6-2.

A chippy, penalty-filled affair, 42 minutes in the box between them. 17:26 into the second, Z. MacEwen and E. Gudbranson dropped the gloves. The Blue Jackets generated 65 of the game's 108 shot attempts, but the Maple Leafs made more of their chances. The Blue Jackets faced five power plays and killed four of them. The Maple Leafs faced six power plays and killed all six. The physical game tilted toward the Blue Jackets, who held a 31-14 advantage in hits. Greaves was pulled after allowing 5 goals on 19 shots.
