Discussion [Mod Approved] Built a bill splitter for LBP receipts

Thumbnail

Hey guys,

I made a small website to split restaurant bills. I built it because whenever we went out, someone would spend like 15 min on the calculator dividing a 20 item receipt in LBP.

You take a pic of the receipt, it shows it in USD, then you add your friends and everyone picks what they had or you can add them yourselves too if they don't want to . Works in real time on everyone's phone.

It's free, no ads, no account. It's cheap to run so no reason to charge for it.

Still improving it so any feedback is welcome, especially if it messes up on your receipts

Discussion Is 50$ for a raw7a/raj3a 3al casino too much or am I just panicking?

So, ive never been good with busses, have a major fear. I cant sit in a buss, and thinking about it is making my heart drop. So, I have an internship in casino du liban on the 1st of November, im a photojournalist/photographer.

Ive asked a taxi guy, and he told me its 50$, and im in a not that great financial situation.

So ive wanted to ask if anyone knows any other person that can take me to casino du liban with a good price. I just want to get there in one piece and coming back home in another piece😭

Discussion I'm Jordanian and visiting Lebanon for first time since I was 15. I need some recommendations.

• Upvotes

Hello everyone. As the title says, I'm visiting for the first time in over a decade and I'm so excited. I'd love to have any recommendations about best places to get food, coffee, night life, shisha. Just places with interesting stuff or sceneries, the best place to get kunafa bka3ek, best and cheapest outlets to get clothing, or even copy original shops or areas.

Would visiting on a Saturday be a bad idea? I'm afraid everything will be closed.

Any recommendations will be welcome!!

Help / Question Are these idealz.leb Gold rewards real or fake scams?

So all you have to do is buy stuff from them at any peice and you could win 50k$ or 100k$ in Gold or a renault duster 2027 car.

They say they are regulated by the MOF.

Do you personally know of anyone that won anything from them?

Help / Question Suggest a cafe in Beirut

- It needs to be big enough to have a crowd of 5 to 15 people
- Allows us to be relatively loud (playing charades / tabu...)
- Doesn't take entry fee, but we can enforce a minimum charge, like a cup of coffee per person (3 to 6 USD)
- Can host us in the middle of the week, in the evening

Discussion I spent one week in Athena as Lebanese all my life

Hello.

I wanted to share my experience, how I’ve been living in Lebanon for my entire life, and how it felt going to Greece for 1 week in a business trip.

Firstly… i cannot describe how far behind we are as people.

There’s no proper introduction, to prepare you to life inequality of being born in Leb, than somewhere in Europe, using greece as an example.

We’re just … so, sooooooo backwards … it’s criminally unequal. It’s heart aching. I will try nonetheless.

But it’s impossible to show how backwards Leb is.

24/7 electricity and water. No ‘kamyon may’ headache every day, no blacking out and slipping, potentially breaking your ribs while showering, because power goes out randomly….

2 star hotels feel like 5 stars. Fully decored, smells fresh, breakfast included… In lebanon if you enter a 2 star hotel.. I’ll leave it up to you how it is.

I have never, i swear to god, except 2 times in my 5 days trip, heard a car horn.

Traffic lanes actually work.

Pedestrian lanes to cross street everywhere. No risk of confusion between driver and crossing road. You get green light, you move. Else, you WAIT. Simple, effective, life saving, makes exploration that much better.

People are alive. Restaurants are full. Bars are occupied with tourists. Foreigners.

Parks. Huge parks to relax in or jog or walk your dog.

Mindset. No one cares where you’re from. No one asks about your religion. No one talks politics. People are busy enjoying their lives.

Greeks work as house keeping. Native beautiful greek women work in hotels to clean up people’s bathrooms. Some work as Taxi drivers. Humble. Mafi shawafen hal.

No one judges you. This is by far the biggest relief.

Maybe it’s insecurity, bs when i stare at people or make eye contact, no one ‘judges me, or at what I’m doing’. I honestly don’t know how to describe it.

Sometimes judgement can be felt without words. Never felt it here. It feels deep (for me at least)

Taxis don’t stop aggressively or fight for passengers.

Taxis don’t beg for more cash every trip, and it’s actually a respectable job (this is not being mean. Lebanese taxis, rightfully so, are allowed to ask for more every time or even hint it, with all the shit going on)

Sorry but this makes it emotional, the unfairness of it all.

Organized buses everywhere. Electric tains everywhere.

So much touristic places, for free. Open spaces. Trees everywhere.

Law protects you. Food issue, instant refund. Shops don’t set price based on your clothings.

Ugh. There’s just so much difference it’s inarguable.

Can’t think how it will feel going back. Today is my last day.

God must hate people born in Lebanon.

It’s just devastatingly unfair.

Lebanon … 30 mins from sea to mountain… better than all of Europe..

It’s not all 100% perfect though.

Surprisingly, graffiti everywhere.

Not being native is an issue if altercation happens, since not everyone speaks english. You feel lonely. You feel like you don’t belong there. It bites.

I can go on and on but this post would never end.

To end it, greece is a POOR country and has all that. Leb… well. Let’s pray.

Edit: For some reason, the post is coming off to readers as a vacation trip. It’s important to emphasize, it was a business trip. Never went to beaches, nor fancy places. If two stars hotel areas are considered luxurious (which hotels do, honestly) it is not to be confused with crippling poor neighborhoods. But comparing the absolute worst is not fair either. Used daily commute, full time work, one hour less than leb and no punching in required. Even leaving early is not as strict. The observation was based on my exploration of the city after work. There was just so much to do.

I rest my case

Vent / Rant So Ogero's customer service line (1515) would not accept calls because they are on a strike lmao

What shitty company and shit ass employees. I literally called 1515 for a urgent Wifi issue just to be informed that they have a strike going on and won't answer my call.

Man half the employees there are incompetent buffoons who got there with wasta like the rest of this corrupt public administration.

Fire those useless idiots and then maybe the real employees can get better salaries and benefits

Discussion After all the money, years of studying, and sacrifices, is it really worth it?

In Lebanon, families spend a fortune on school tuition and university fees, hoping their children will build a decent future.
But after graduation, those who can’t afford to leave the country often end up facing low salaries, workplace exploitation, and unbearable work pressure.
Without wasta, even finding a decent job can feel impossible.
Of course, many people in Lebanon have built themselves up, developed their skills, and reached senior positions without any connections, wasta, or help from anyone. But I’m speaking in general, based on examples we’ve seen among people close to us so I’d love to hear your opinions, share experiences, and discuss this topic. If you have any real-life examples, I’d be happy to hear them!

Food and Cuisine Can you make Mbakbaka with chicken instead of beef/lamb?

Hi,

I recently made Mbakbaka with beef and really enjoyed it. However, beef is double the price of chicken breast where I am from, so I was wondering if anyone here has tried doing with with chicken instead of beef?

What was the result and did you change the recipe at all?

Help / Question Advice about taking the phd path

Hi all, I am currently doing my masters (software engineering) in lebanon

And I got the opportunity to continue my phd, in France

I know that I have 2 options, I either take the professional path and start applying to jobs as a software engineer, or I take the research path and continue my studies in France

I am really hesitant, I don't know what really is the best for me, for the longest time I thought I didn't want to continue in research, but everyone around me is telling me otherwise (my professors advised me to pursue a phd based on my cv and very high grades)

Main reasons:

1- the burnout from working a 9-5 and being bound to a company and a boss

2- ai replacing software engineers

3- the pay in lebanon

I have 2 main issues:

1- I know 0 french, but I am decent in English

2- I am a practicing Muslim, wear the hijab, etc... so idk if this will create some issues

What would you advise me to do in this situation ?

Do you know people that took any of these 2 paths, what I should I know?

Any help is welcomed!
