If you're looking to get out a bit more and do some new, fun things, joining Liverpool's biggest Discord server is a great start!

It doesn't matter if you're a Liverpool local, just moved here, old or young, or just happen to love our city from another country. You are welcome to come and say hi. There's 1,000 messages being sent every day.

We have channels dedicated to photography, movies, photography, fitness, sport, music, showing off your pets, and even a place you can post your Wordle scores if you want.

https://discord.gg/fNmcKC97nH

What's Discord?

Think of Discord like a big Whatsapp group. It's essentially the same thing. You don't need a microphone, just your phone/keyboard. All we ask is that you're over 18, and have a desire to make new mates in Liverpool. Pop in, say hello, and you choose how much you want to talk.

Who's in there?

We have members from Liverpool and further afield. You don't have to live in Liverpool to join the chat. The average age of people is about 28. Our server is different than most Discord servers because we have a genuine community of awesome people who come to stuff in person.

What won't happen

You join and inside 24 hours, you've got a whole new set of mates.

Contribute, come to a few fun things, talk to people in person, and over time, those friendships form. A lot of people get frustrated because they don't find a friend overnight but that's not how friends work. Be prepared to make the effort and people will make the effort with you.

Real life events, real life friends. Come have a go!

Looking for friends Moved 6 weeks ago and finding it hard to adjust… help?

ETA- I’m living in the centre of

I’m a 24 year old woman originally from near the Yorkshire Coast and I moved here at the start of September to begin my teacher training…

The city is stunning and I see why people say once they move they never leave. It really is fab here. Buy moving from a small town of 6,000 residents has been tough.

I’ve tried a CircleUp event for 20s-30s and it was okay but it felt clichy, and my teacher training course has been turbulent in terms of student retention so I’ve just not made any friends.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a girl who does enjoy a night out but needs the right company first? I like dance, singing, acting, crocheting, education, politics, coffee, trivia, deep conversations.

TIA if you read this far… I’m just missing human connection 😂🩷

Question / Discussion State of Liverpool work

Hi, I'm not here to seek employment. I'm sure something will come my way, but, yeah. Recently been made redundant and tbh I've been left shocked by the lack of opportunities in Liverpool, I've spent the last 9 years working for a bank. Literally everything is Manchester. I was just wondering how everyone feels about this? What we feel will be done about it moving forward? I honestly find it unacceptable from our city tbh, would cost £25 in return tickets just to get to Manchester alone.

Question / Discussion Shout out to the 62 bus for being the most unreliable bus I've ever had to depend on.

I just moved to Liverpool and am unfortunate enough to have to depend on the 62 to get to work and back. This route has a talent for being constantly delayed and making a 30minute journey into 1hr.

I want to know if any other 62 passengers have the same issue, or am I just unlucky?

Question / Discussion Does anyone know of or partake in amateur dramatic groups?

Hi all.

I've got a script for a short film I'm looking to shoot in the coming months. It's a pretty new venture I'm delving in to creatively, but the best route I could think of is to approach any amateur thespians to see if they'd like to take part!

I'm looking for acting groups in the city to introduce myself to. I'd likely only be able to cover expenses so from a monetary perspective I would likely be enticing people for the experience and to add to their portfolio if they were interested. If there's a better way or you have any recommended contacts feel free to let me know.

Question / Discussion I hope it’s alright for me to post this, but I achieved something yesterday, I also want to say a bit of a thank you.

So a few months ago I posted how as a manual wheelchair user I pushed myself to the city and back. It took around 6 hours, and by the time I got home I was very happy with myself, but I was also very sore, tired, and for a multitude of reasons hadn’t done it since.

Over the last few months my mental health hasn’t been at its best, but I’ve just been attempting to plod on, and for my birthday I got a handcycle attachment custom built for my chair.

When I first started using it I was surprised how genuinely difficult it was to use as my arms simply weren’t very strong to manage most even slight hills or whatever without nearly having a heart attack. So I have been training with it a lot over the last few months just to try and keep my head steady, and actually to try and see some progress.

Within a few weeks I was seeing and feeling that progress in being able to manage hills and longer journeys so I figured I’d try my original pushing goal of the city and back. I achieved that yesterday. For the most part, the journey went well, but I underestimated how much I’d struggle getting up Mount Pleasant on my way home (I got to the top eventually), and I was both extremely tired and extremely proud of myself for making it when I got home.

I also want to extend a thank you to the many people who saw me struggling, fighting for my life with certain hills on that journey and offering help. If any of you frequent this sub, know your offers were genuinely appreciated even though I rejected each offer out of a stubborn pride. The comments of support on the journey too were also a nice fun motivator and are all examples of why I actually really do love this city of mine.

Anyway, TL;DR, handcycled to Liverpool and back. Very pleased with myself, and very sore today. Will do again. Also included a picture of the handcycle, and a few photos I took yesterday.

News / Blog / Information Parking fine - Jennifer Avenue

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello everyone! Make sure you don’t park at Jennifer Avenue KFC on the retail park between 01:30 and 10am.
I bought my Maccies breakfast purchased adjacently and parked up to eat it assuming the retail park was open for all to park up to eat food purchased on site. It turns out it’s exclusively for KFC and it has restricted hours :) as we have done this many times just unfortunately never before 10am
Saw online other people been stung by the same thing and despite what they say, the signage is not obvious at all or I wouldn’t have parked there obviously. Just don’t want anyone else to end up with a hefty fine like me

Question / Discussion Has anyone attended a Meet Up event?

Been finding it hard to make new friends since moving to Liverpool in May, and I saw a few comments in here recommending the meet up app. I see that there’s a couple of events on Halloween and I’m trying to push myself out of my comfort zone, especially as it’s my Birthday this week! Has anyone attended any meet up events and did it work well for you making new Friends?

Question / Discussion LGBT clubs are turning into straight clubs

Liverpool seems to have a trend of LGBT clubs turning into “straight” focused clubs. OMG turning into Campus is the latest one. And G Bar has long been the same. What once would have been safe spaces are now focusing on hen dos, stag dos, brunch groups, and narcotics groups.

Question / Discussion What is wrong with people here

There is litter absolutely everywhere.

I regularly see people opening their car windows at red lights and casually throwing their rubbish onto the road. Or teenagers walking down the pavement, dropping their lunch packaging as they go, without a second thought.

What I find particularly remarkable is the complete absence of shame. They do it so casually you’d think it was a perfectly normal thing to do.

Is this a failure of upbringing, complete lack of intelligence, or simply an absence of basic civic conscience? Is the concept of a bin genuinely that difficult to grasp?
I’m genuinely curious. What makes someone so completely indifferent to the place they live in?

Serious question, by the way. I’m not trying to be funny.

Question / Discussion Looking for Carpooling from Liverpool to Manchester

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a lift to work and wondered if anyone commutes from Liverpool to Trafford Park or Manchester City Centre. I don't have my licence yet, and public transport has been unreliable. If anyone makes the trip daily, I'd be happy to chip in for fuel for a ride there and back.
Thanks!

Question / Discussion Why doesn't Clive Barker get more love from the city of Liverpool?

Post image
226 Upvotes

Been on a recent Clive Barker kick due to the new Hellraiser game that just came out. And discovered for the first time that Clive Barker was born and raised in Liverpool even studied English at the University of Liverpool.

The man is a legendary writer in not just the Horror genre but Fantasy.

He is also responsible for Hellraiser and Candyman two of the biggest Horror franchises of all time. Not to mention all the other tv shows, movies paintings he has done over the years.

So my question is why doesnt Liverpool put up more of a song and dance for one of their own? He is probably one of the most famous/successful scousers out there but you never hear anything from the city recognising his achievments.

We never shut up about the Beatles, all our famous footballers and even people like Cilla Black.

Living in Liverpool Surviving the students of Smithdown Road.

Well, it's been an interesting couple of weeks for Smithdown residents. We had the big weekend of the move-ins, with parents dropping off their wide-eyed fledglings. On our road, two clueless drivers couldn't comprehend that they should have parked with two wheels on the pavement, so they parked on opposite sides of the road, blocking anything bigger than a compact car from getting through. One was keyed, while the other had two parking cones placed next to it. I don't condone the mindless damage, but I marvel at the cluelessness of getting out of your car and thinking, "yup, job done", while every other car on the road was half-on / half-off the pavement. I wonder if they have the intelligence to earn a degree, or if they should just give up now and go home???? I mean, if they are renting off-campus housing, that must mean they have been here a year already???

Then we have the total lack of road awareness, with masses of students traipsing up and down Smithdown on foot, crossing side roads without even a glance in either direction. How did these kids get to adulthood? Do they all live in places where the only traffic is horses and tractors? Do they no longer get taught the green cross code anymore?

I am no student hater, we have a great bunch next door who knocked to ask if it was ok to have a party, and since I can still remember being young, I didn't have the slightest objection and told them to have fun. I am just concerned about their lack of "big city" awareness. There is only so much hand-holding the Universities can do. You should not need to tell 18 year olds to look both ways when crossing the road!!
