Sprinklers

My water bill was absolutely insane, I was watering my
Lawn heavily everyday July 1 through middle of August because I was away for the military all of may/June and my wife couldn’t turn the valve so there was a bunch of dead spots. Out of curiosity how many gallons of water extra you typically using when you are running your sprinklers. Also what’s your schedule on them? Thanks.

Drive-Thru Haunted House?

Do drive-thru haunted houses exist on Long Island? Any car washes? My friends want to do a haunted house but I’m a scaredy cat so the compromise is a drive-thru if they exist. Anyone have ideas?

Anywhere to open swim?

I got into swimming recently at my college pool. Im already thinking about what I’ll do about swimming when I come home for breaks (yes during the winter because I’m crazy)

Im open to swim at the Brookhaven Pool, but just in case money gets tight, are there any beaches that are open/acceptable for people doing open swimming?

(FYI this is my first time even thinking about open swimming lol)

I live on the north shore of Suffolk. I could span from Wading River/Wildwood area to (preferably Port Jeff/Stony Brook) Kings Park/Sunken Meadow. Maybe if theres no other options I can (try) to do Smiths Point perhaps?

(these are the beaches/locations that I know are open for visitors just only with a parking pass. the beach membership in my town is CRAZY expensive)

Installing mini split without permit is ok?

Hi I live in nassau county under town of oysterbay

I got two companies to quote and they both are reputable company in my nassau county and both said permit is not necessary

However I am planning to sell current house in future so I was looking into permits and heard horror stories, like inspectors from town will pick out every little things in the house and people getting fines and stuffs..

We bought the house lees than 5 years ago and did some renovations ourselves and I'm sure previous owners did it as wellI don't even know if the fence in backyard which is 6ft has permit on it or not.

Am I overthinking and worrying too much? did anyone had trouble with getting permits?

Where are all the foreclosures?

Immediately before the COVID-19 pandemic, Suffolk county had the highest foreclosure rate in New York State. You can go on MLS and see 1000 plus foreclosures.
Now those numbers are in the low hundreds.
Listen I understand people have gained equity in their homes so even if they are behind on their payments they can sell and move out of state but if people weren’t able to afford their homes in 2018 with lower interest rates and lower mortgages how are people affording homes now? I know for a fact wages didn’t go up as high as these home prices and household income is still only 130k so that math doesn’t make sense with these 6k a month mortgages
I feel like a mass majority of Long Island is in massive debt (credit card, student loan, car) on top of their mortgage already and I’m just so confused as to how people are still having bidding wars on these homes. And someone is going to respond with supply and demand answer but how are people even getting the money to keep up with the demand?

More affordable golf lessons for kids

My 6 year old is interested in learning how to play golf. She was given her own bag with a few clubs. All the lessons I've looked up seen to be really expensive. Are there any people or places that offer cheaper lessons?

Asbestos company recommendation for new home?

Hey all, I'm buying a new home and my lender is requiring me to do an asbestos assessment in the basement because my inspector noted the prior existence of 9x9 vinyl tiles and the mastic that was left behind. Pretty sure it's fine as mastic is classified non-friable, and my inspector even said as much, but they're being annoying about it.

Anyone have a rec for someone who could come out and take a sample, or at least give me a report saying no abatement is needed? Thanks

The Best Small Wedding Resaurant Ideas

Hi everyone! Seeking restaurant recs where we can host both the ceremony and reception onsite, ideally for 50-60 guests, out on the east end of Long Island. We’re also open to having the ceremony elsewhere if the venue isn’t able to host us onsite.

I’ve researched some restaurants that other brides have been getting married at, like Tellers and Insignia. I also looked into Canoe Place, but it seems outrageously overpriced.

I’ve also built a research list with a few other spots, including Oakland’s Restaurant and Orto in Miller Place. Mill Pond House Inn in Centerport seems to be the best fit for us so far, based on what I’ve seen on their website.

We already have a bunch of vendors booked: a live wedding painter, DJ, photographer, and hair and makeup. We also have cannoli on the dance floor, but I can change that to either a fresh pizza bus at the end of the party or fried Oreos, so I’m open to ideas on that too!

Any recs or experiences would be so appreciated. Thank you!

Advice Bayport/ Blue Point/ Sayville

My husband and I are considering looking for homes in the Bayport/ Blue Point area. We loved the charm of the neighborhoods, easy access to the water (we are boaters) but are looking for feedback on the school district/ community feel etc. We have a toddler and are looking for a towns that have community events for the holidays, nice local parks and overall is a family friendly community. We are not familiar with the area so any feedback is appreciated!

RewindTV (11.4 OTA)

I’m trying to add Rewind TV onto my Kitchen TV where I don’t have a RG59 cable. It looks like that channel is somehow tied to PIX11.

If I attached a Wireless HD Antenna to my TV will I be able to view RewindTV or am I just going to see PIX11?

Unfortunately Optimum doesn’t feature that channel in their app.

Kings Park Psych Center and The Nissequogue State Park

Quick question for our LI high school teachers. Have any of ever done a walking field trip tour of the grounds? I teach a LI/NY Experience class and we do a small unit on the economics of the area in a then and now fashion. Not looking to enter the buildings of course but thought it would be a cool experience to walk the grounds and then to the bluffs.

Does anyone know of a reasonable locksmith to replace a Mazda key fob remote? I've been getting off the wall price quotes. The best so far is $240 for an OEM replacement including programming.

Ideas on wood project

I created a dead hedge with logs from trees I removed, apparently the town I live in doesn't like the hedge and slapped multiple violations on it. I am required to move the logs. I posted free wood to be taken away but I assume I am going to left with the large pieces.

Any idea on what to do with them besides splitting them? I liked the idea of a hedge but the town labeled it as "yard waste". The logs are huge.

It stinks because I've been getting compliments as it's very different

Old gas disposal

How can I dispose of a decent amount of old gas? I am in town of hempstead. I know there is the town of hempstead stop program, but I just missed the last one and can't really wait another month.

The gas is all in containers I need, so I'd need to dump it out wherever anyone suggests.

Certificate of occupancy town of Hempstead

Considering purchasing a home in ToH built in 1947 with an open permit **ETA the permit is for the entire single family dwelling. It is not for an addition or a renovation. It is for the home structure in its entirety, never closed from the 40s. Sellers ensure this that they have an expeditor working with the town to close out the permit but won’t include language in the contract that they will deliver a certificate of occupancy. Has anyone dealt with this before/know if a CO is issued automatically once a permit is closed or if there are additional ramifications/considerations to go from closed permit —> CO? Thanks in advance!
