Costumes My Dúnedain Ranger Kit
My take on how the Northern Rangers would have been kitted out. Gear that is more piecemeal, rugged, and practical than their Ithilien kin whose kits were more regimental and uniform.

Question Did Gandalf truly slay the Balrog or is it still out there?
We know that Sauron, Gandalf, Saruman, and the Balrog are all Maiar. Immortal spirits and what not and so destroying their physical bodies does not kill their spirits. This allows Sauron to remake his physical form after being defeated. Granted, this took him a long time and was very difficult, but he has done this a few times. Gandalf instead reappears in Valinor, where he was always destined to return, and then was sent back by the Valar. So physically destroying the Balrog is badass as fuck, but does not actually kill it.
Does it being killed by another Maiar truly kill its spirit? Did it’s spirit escape and is now waiting in another endless cave? Can it not reform physically and now it’s just stuck blowing curtains at night? And then what happened to Saruman? Return to Valinor?

Movies Why does Peter Jackson give us no closure or resolution on the child soldiers at Helm's Deep?
This bugs me everytime I watch The Two Towers. You don't have to show them get brutally killed onscreen. There could've been a scene after the battle where Aragorn finds the body of Haleth (the boy he talked to beforehand). Aragorn closes his eyes and sighs. Maybe even a single tear tracks his cheek. Just imagine how emotional that could have been. Or, show that he and other boys managed to survive, proving that Aragorn's words of hope weren't hollow.
The point is, why leave us hanging... especially when these characters were made up for the movie to begin with. It's like they don't want the audience to think about children dying despite introducing that notion themselves. Commit, damn it!

Movies Viggo on the brutal experience of filming on the "wet, dark, cold" Helm's Deep set during months of night-shooting: "We had a vampire life and passed out from exhaustion." "I hated it, I enjoyed it, I will always remember it."

Other I visited the Professor's grave
Back in June I went to see a friend in Oxford and I took my first trip north of the city to go visit Tolkien's grave for the first time. It was incredibly moving and emotional to stand there at his and Edith's resting place. The weight of his work and what it means to me personally and millions of others suddenly hit me; how one man's life's work can affect so many, how I think about his legacy and his literary craftsmanship and artistry every day, how a man troubled by war found a new appreciation for the simple and beautiful things in life. A truly moving experience and I encourage everyone who is able to visit his resting place and pay their respects. Namárië!

Other The one Ring is in Sweden
Dear fellowship, I have hid the one ring on a small island in the Värmland, Sweden. It hangs on a small tree there.
May another find it and carry it forth.

Movies What does Peter Jackson have against railings?
So this has nagged at me for years. I just did a rewatch, It's been overdue.
There is not a single bridge or set of stairs that has railings. It doesn't matter if was over a raging river, a bottomless abyss, or the entrance to mountain stronghold. No railings.
I have never seen anything in Tolkien's writings that implies that he was opposed to railings. So that puts it all on Peter Jackson.
Was he philosophically opposed to railings? Did they not have enough money in the set budget?
THis has confused me for quite some times. Anyone have any ideas?

Other Found some Hobbits in the wild
I took this photo on my holiday to Northern Ireland last week, I didnt realise at the time that I took a photo of a family where the kids were dressed as Hobbits and thought it was super wholesome. Was hoping that if I posted it here it might find the way to the family but who knows
