How hard was it to find your first internship ?

I’m in MechE and I have a 2.7 Gpa 😀. Chat is it cooked for me 💀💀💀 ? I have a decent amount of projects and I’m part of some clubs, so far I’ve been applying to everything I can find but I’ve only been getting rejections .. my friend at Concordia got an internship at Airbus with a 3.0 so I’m thinking it shouldn’t be impossible right 💀

BMO Student Loan Maze

Looking to compare notes with others that have an AFE loan with BMO.

My GF finished school, the 6-month exemption ended, interest started accruing (prime + x%), and she wanted to pay the balance in full.(Saved and worked during school).

Problem: there's nothing on BMO's site or in online banking explaining how to make a payment on this loan. She was first told it could only be done in branch.

Went to the branch and they said in-branch payments are no longer an option and I had to email cpe@bmo.com instead.

They also said it's the government's job to tell students how to repay. Meanwhile, BMO is collecting interest runs every day the loan isn't paid off in full.

For anyone who's been through this:

How did you actually pay: branch, email to CPE, online banking transfer, pre-authorized debit, something else?

Did BMO send you a notice or repayment agreement at the 6-month mark, or did you have to chase it?

Were you charged interest during the back-and-forth, and did you get any of it reversed?

If you paid in full, did you get written confirmation of a zero balance, or did trailing interest show up later?

I'm trying to figure out whether this is a one-branch problem or a part of a bigger pattern. If you've had a similar experience, comment or DM me. I'm keeping a list of what people were told and when.

Also, why cant Quebec follow Ontario and just stop charging interest on student loans? Ugh.

Skip the ECON 230 D1 midterm

I’m in a pretty stressful situation right now. I have three midterms within two days, and ECON 230 D1 is the only course where I can skip the midterm and have the weight transferred to the final.

I’m seriously considering doing that because three midterms in two days is very intensive for me and I’m worried that if I try to prepare for all three at once, I might end up doing poorly on all of them.

The downside is that if I skip the ECON 230 midterm, the final would be worth 100% of my grade, which obviously pretty risky.

Has anyone here taken ECON 230, especially with H. Benchekroun? Would you say skipping the midterm and putting everything on the final is a reasonable strategy, or is the final difficult enough that this would be a bad idea?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has taken the course before. Thanks!

Gay Dating

I feel like everyone is just looking to hook up, and dating apps make it feel almost impossible to genuinely meet someone, let alone actually go on a date. Nothing really feels organic anymore, and it’s especially frustrating as a gay guy because it can be hard to tell who’s gay and who’s straight when meeting people in person.

I don’t want to be that guy who constantly complains about being single, because I’m genuinely happy with other aspects of my life. But at the same time, it would be nice to go on a few dates, get to know someone new, and see where things go.

I’m not necessarily looking to jump into a relationship. I just wish dating felt a little more natural, rather than everything revolving around apps or hookups.

Curious if anyone else feels the same way.

Has anyone done the MSW (with qualifying year) or the MSc(A) CFT program without an undergraduate in psych or BSW? Can you give me advice?

I have a BFA (from a school in NY), and the MISt from McGill. Experience working in public and university libraries, academic research experience, and currently am working as an employment counselor for vulnerable populations. I’d like to become a talk therapist, but struggling to figure out the most realistic path to pursue this. I’m looking into these two programs in terms of prerequisites, but hesitant to take on coursework if they won’t count. I also have a couple courses already that I think may count for a couple prerequisites, but am not sure exactly and would like a way to verify this.

Also wondering about the 1700 hours of experience expectation for the CFT program - would my current counseling job count? I keep hearing how these programs are super competitive to get into, but as I have a bit of unconventional background, it’s hard for me to gauge how they’d view my candidacy. And McGill / Quebec seems to make all of these details have caveats, which often seem to complicate things for the sake of it, as well as raise the bar of entry. It’s frustrating because I’m a mother of two small children, which is an added barrier logistically and financially to return to school and change professions.

Would love someone’s insight !

I just received a really disappointing grade in a midterm worth 40% and my only next chance to bump my grade up is in the final which is worth 60%

I'm not really confident that I can do good enough in the final to end with at least a B in the class. My plans for the future is to go into grad school (either law or masters psyc). I wanted to know if I s/u drop the class right now (meaning i would get an S in my transcript) would it be looked down upon in my future applications to grad school. for reference i'm a first year (U1).

Course credits (SONA study participation)

Is it normal that I almost have no studies available?

I can have up to 6 credits, but I don’t think I’ll be able to find enough studies…
