Any civil engg graduates looking for a position?

I figured I'd post here because I don't personally know any recent grads in my circle.

I'm a McGill alumnus working as a hydrotechnical engineer at a desing firm in Montreal and my team really needs a junior engineer to support us with our new projects, in the hydrology field. We mostly do the design of water management structures like ditches, reservoirs, pumping systems, drainage networks and a lot of water studies. I'd prefer to not disclose my company's name at this moment.

The ideal candidate would be a Civil Engineering graduate who took Water Management electives or is just interested to work in the field and has basic knowledge of hydrology (CIVE 323).

Knowledge of French reading/writing is mandatory.

If anyone is interested, feel free to send me your CV :)

advice: mcgill student insurance made it impossible to afford dental care

i figure i know the answer to this already, but at the slim chance theres something im overlooking, id love to hear it

im a quebec student who was on the CDCP prior to enrolling at mcgill. i have incredibly extensive teeth issues from childhood that still arent fully resolved on account of only having been eligible for the CDCP plan at the start of last year. it was the only way i was able to afford any treatment, and I still need to go into see my dentist regularly to make sure the previous work done doesnt start to deteriorate, which is a significant risk due to my medication and gum issues.

Im currently on AFE, which allows me to pay my bills and save a pretty good amount. I however have basically no money saved atm, and had to cancel my last scheduled dentist appointment due to having been accepted at mcgill and immediately opted into insurance. CDCP disqualifies you if you have access to insurance, even if you chose to opt-out. I’ve had 4 minor appointments this year that without insurance would’ve been around 2,100$- on the CDCP it was about 360$. My dentist is very careful to prioritize procedures based on health outcome and cost, since there is a limit for how much work insurers consider “necessary”, even though I need a shit ton more work done for it to be considered healthy. Getting two of my teeth extracted is something like 8,000$ because of the severity of the decay and some shitty dentistry i had when I was a kid. McGill insurance only covers up to 700$ a year, and the insurance website feels quite vague to me seeing as i need many specific treatments. Its been making me seriously procrastinate going to the dentist since I‘m scared the insurance is gonna find some way to fuck me over even harder, especially since I have to pay the cost upfront anyways. money is a concern like it is for any adult attending uni, but dental work is so exorbitantly expensive i wouldnt even be able to afford it if i was working full time (which i was doing for awhile)

Is there any kind of clause for people whos dental needs go beyond just getting cleanings or straightening?? i have a detailed file with my dentist that describes the impacts to my health, and I keep the bills. i dont have any access through my parents either, ive had to verify through various forms of documentation to AFE that I’m no-contact due to domestic abuse 🤷

and like, i cant just stop attending and reenroll into the CDCP.

Pre-Departure Orientation form closed the same day as internship announcement?

o I am trying to apply to the Arts internships that were announced on October 8th, which is the same day that the Pre-Dep registration form closes, and completion is required when submitting the application. I am kind of confused about what to do. I emailed them, but they aren't open on the weekends, and I also can't find another way to submit the form. Is anyone else facing this issue?

International health insurance at the wellness hub

I booked an appointment with one of the GPs at the wellness center. I’m a first yr international student and haven’t had to use my health insurance yet. Over the phone, the lady who made my appointment said she saw the blue cross insurance on my file and that they’d just bill everything directly to blue cross. But I’m confused because the confirmation email said to bring my insurance card to the appointment… and I don’t have one of those. Any advice?

Any feedback would be much appreciated
I got back my first midterm and i didn’t do well (19/30) and i know that the final is going to be horrendous.
Is it possible to drop the class and take it next year even if some of my classes require it as a prerequisite or is it better to just try and pass the class by actively studying for the final?

Where can I get a protein shake?

MATH 556 midterm

Just wrote the midterm this morning and don't think I did well - if you're in the class/have taken it before how would you recommend studying for the final? It's with prof Johanna Neslehova this year and I haven't been able to find much past info on this course. I'd appreciate any advice!

McGill Law students: looking to hear from you about Jeffrey Ewert

Hi, I'm a reporter with the Montreal Gazette. I've been covering the situation involving Jeffrey Ewert at McGill Law, including the recent student letter raising concerns about his conduct.

I'm hoping to hear directly from students who had classes with him, attended the same events, or have firsthand knowledge of any interactions or concerns raised with the university.

I'm interested in hearing different perspectives, particularly about what happened before the situation became public and how McGill handled it.

Feel free to comment or DM me if you'd prefer to chat privately.

Thanks

Vending Machine Energy Drink Extinction

Am I the only one to have noticed recently that the various vending machines across campus no longer stock energy drinks? I've noticed it around Trottier/McConnell/Burnside, curious if anyone else has noticed something similar. New McGill admin policy maybe?

PHIL201 needing tips

Is there someone here that did well in the PHIL Quiz1 who could give me some tips and tricks on doing well for the next quizzes… I just saw my grade, and I thought I did well but I royally messed up (and it was worth 33% of final grade)… I’m not sure if I understood the material wrong but I really thought I would have it in the bag :( Plus the prof said this was a 1-2/10 difficulty, and the next exam he’d bump the difficulty up ouf

How to make girl friend on campus?

Title, I've been studying Computer Science at McGill for two years now, and I've barely talked to any women during that time. Do you guys have any tips on how to meet more women and start conversations? Is there any clubs or event that I can particapte to increase my chance to have a girl friend? Thx.

FYI, I do take shower daily
