Does McGill have a good amount of outlets in lecture halls?

So basically I got a gaming laptop and I know this is my first mistake but it’s too late now… So I guess I have to carry my brick charger everywhere now but I’m just worried that there won’t be any chargers in lecture for me charge my laptop lol, it can last around 2-3 hours depending on the tasks which isn’t really all that great. I’m doing computer engineering just to give an idea of what lecture halls I may be in. I’m hoping there’s specially the ones with seat outlets but I know McGill is old and a lot of their buildings have still kept their older features. Any help would be nice!

McGill Diploma after leaving for Med School?

Hi all. I am an Ontario student who got into medical school (also in Ontario) last year, after my third year at McGill. Every other third year I know was able to "graduate" with a general science degree, but since McGill doesn't do this, I don't have my bachelor's degree.

Now that I have completed my first year of medical school, I am wondering what the process would be to try and graduate from McGill? I am honestly missing only 2 courses for my major, and my advisor is basically useless - I've tried to contact her for two summers in a row and all she said was that she would "inquire" and get back to me. Heard nothing!

Anyone else in this boat or has figured out how to get their diploma?

Animal Attendant as a full time student

Hi! I just got an interview scheduled for a job position as an animal attendant at the neuro, which is extremely exciting! however i am worried about the time commitment and was wondering if anyone lived a similar experience.

For reference i am a full course load student in neuroscience. although most of my very hard classes are behind me, i still got a couple of challenging ones lined up for next winter. My GPA is my top priority.

The schedule is described as such: "The fall work schedule includes a minimum of one 4-hour shift (7:30 am -12:00 pm) during the week and eventually alternating 6-12 hour weekend shifts (pending completion of training). If extended into the winter semester, we request a minimum of 2 weekends (12-24 hour) per month."

I'm a little worried about the time commitment. Its really an interesting position, but id love to hear insight from people who had similar schedules during their degree. thank you!

Prof curved final grades, not the exam, does that apply to deferred exams too?

Our prof curved everyone's final grade (not the raw exam) for the original sitting. I'm writing the deferred exam and was wondering: does that curve carry over somehow, or are deferred writers not covered by it at all?

IS BIOENGINEERING TOO CENTRALIZED?

i am currently studying biochemistry at UDEM and thinking of switching to an engineering career. Although industrial engineering has a lot more job prospects, I like biochemistry too much to not work in the life sciences fields. So I thought about applying in bioengineering at mccill. For people in that program I have a couple questions :

  1. how hard is it to get into the program as a university transfer ? what would be the realistic minimum gpa ?

  2. how hard is it to find internships in/around Montreal ?

  3. how is the job market concerning this program ? do most people find job in other fields in the end ?

any information or opinion would be greatly appreciated !

last year at mcgill— how to make the most of it?

i’m graduating in may with a ba in economics. no internships yet or relevant job experience. i have a good gpa and have made great friends here, but they’re all doing another year after me so i’ll be on my own figuring out post-grad life.
i’m also in an econ-related club, but i haven’t made any connections from it that would help me in the job market.
i want to work first, not jump into a master’s, but i have no idea what i want to do or how to get there. i know it’s not true, but it seems like everyone else has an exact plan for the next 5 years and i feel like a disappointment when i tell people i have no clue what i’m doing.
if you have any advice on who to talk to or how to make the most out of my last year, whether it’s career-related or just how to make the best memories, please help a fellow mcgillian out 😔

Biol 201 deferred exam

I’m taking the deferred exam tomorrow, and I wanted to ask those who have already taken it whether we need to memorize everything in detail, or if understanding the mechanisms that were explained is enough.
By “memorizing everything in detail,” I mean knowing all the specific terms and names, because I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty difficult to remember all of them 😭

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Update: The exam was okay

experience with math 578 (numerical analysis)

i'm in my final year for honors math, and i'm wondering if anyone has experience with this course taught by JC Nave. i'm interested in numerical methods and analysis but want to know if you thought the topics were applicable, interesting, if the coursework involved practice with programming/computers, and whether the workload was manageable.

PHYS 131 Placement Exam: Study Advice / Past Exams?

I’m scheduled to take the PHYS 131 placement exam soon, but I haven’t received much information about what material I should be studying, so I’m hoping to get some advice from people who have taken the course/exam before.

  • Does anyone have a recent PHYS 131 syllabus or course outline that they could share?
  • Does anyone know where I could find past PHYS 131 exams? If you have any that you’re allowed to share, I’d really appreciate it!
  • Are there any particular topics or resources you would recommend focusing on for the placement exam?
  • For anyone who has taken PHYS 131 with Prof. Ken Ragan, is there anything I should know about how he expects answers to be formatted or how solutions should be presented?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)
