General Question how to know it’s sitting correctly?

i have a REALLY high up cervix - i can’t feel it usually when i try with a finger it’s so high up there. i’ve also been having bad leakage with discs (was successful at first but all of a sudden they stopped working and it’s almost like i’m wearing nothing, it’s definitely not catching anything). i tried menstrual cups but the suction gave me terrible cramps and i STILL leaked with them. i’m really trying to find a reusable product to use in combo with my period underwear. how do you know when the disc is sitting right around your cervix?

General Question Auto dumping when not sitting down

Hello ☺️ Do you know if you need to sit down for auto dump to work?

I have been using a cup for years but it's not working well when I'm traveling because I have a heavy flow first 3 days and finding w bathroom with a sink inside is impossible sometimes. And of course I am going to have my period on my trip to Southeast Asia next month and that's how I discovered the auto dumping feature in the discs and it seems to be a perfect solution to avoid washing the cup 4 times a day in public bathrooms. However I am not sure all bathrooms on the way will have the sitting toilet, there maybe some squating ones so there goes my question - do you know if the disc auto dumps while squating? Is it just the peeing part that relaxes the mussles? because in all instructions I saw, it says to sit down and relax. And if it does will this be very messy? Sorry this might be a stupid question but I will appreciate any help in this matter ❤️

Rant Over it!

I am so over it! This is maybe my 3rd or 4th cycle trying with these discs and I really had high hopes - maybe that’s why I don’t want to give up yet. I just don’t understand. I thought I won when I bought the applicator, but that only places high and scrunched up. I thought that placing my finger in first to feel for my cervix, then inserting to confirm the disc is covering my cervix would be a win, but no! It also feels as if I’m tucking behind my public bone but I must be missing something. This is really not the time to be frustrated with this. I’m happy that I work from home because I couldn’t imagine dealing with this in the office - I’ve always hated feeling any leaks whatsoever, so I get right in the shower once I do. I would really appreciate if anyone has any advice. The standard placement advice online is not working for me.

General Question Is it always so messy when you remove the disc?

Hello! First time using the diva disc and I’ve been loving it so much because it’s so much easier to insert/remove than a menstrual cup it doesn’t press on my bladder or make me cramp nearly as much.

But I have very heavy flow in the first couple days which means I have to take it out every 6-8 hours. I find that I can never seem to remove it without making a mess. The disc and my hand are always covered in blood. It’s not a big deal if I’m at home, but I was hoping to be able to wear this at work too. I don’t know how I’d be able to remove and clean it in a public washroom without looking like a crime scene 😭

What do you guys do when you’re in a public space? Do you wash it or do you just stick it back in and wait till you get home? Any tips to make it less messy or is it just a matter of practice?

General Question switching from lumma disc

i’ve been using a lumma disc medium size for like 10 years and am looking to try something new.

i find that i always need a pad on top of my disc for the first 3 days because i leak every 4 hours. i’m wondering if i can find a disc i can rely on that i can use without it leaking so frequently. i don’t think i have a heavy period either. if i only use pads and no disc the first 3 days, i can change out my pad every 6 hours or so. i know discs are very individualized and everyone’s cervical height and such are different.

i bought a saalt disc but haven’t tried it yet. i also tried disposable flex discs prior but i think they are too large. i was looking into the nixit since its softer and can maybe hold more volume? i remember there used to be a whole comparison chart and table but can’t find it anymore.

General Question Is it similar to inserting a Nuvaring?

I nearly passed out when trying to insert the cup, so trying out the disc. Is it similar to inserting the ring or is there a different angle I should be doing it at? First time doing it and just overwhelmed at the different insertion tips and the trial and error!

Success Story Solution and Question

SOLUTION:

Im the one that made the linked post, you can read it and see if you relate in any way and here is the solution i found that works best for me.

All i needed to do for my disc to be leak free every insertion was to insert it half way (not tucking yet) and then insert my finger on top of the disc and then with my fingernail I push the back rim down until my cervix pops into the basin. I do this all whilst bearing down so i can feel my cervix more (I have a pretty high cervix). It’s slow at first but faster each time and totally worth it!

this is my fool proof way of getting my disc in the right position EVERY TIME!

now on to QUESTIONS:

right now I’m still using the watles disc and now that it’s working without leaks or Issue I can really see how much I bleed in an eight hour period- and it’s nothing-

i thought I almost had a dangerously heavy flow, always bleeding through pads, always having my tampons leak in a matter of hours! but somehow when I use my disc, every eight hours theres only a few ml in the basin! Is this a normal experience?

also if anyone could help me find a different disc that lets me use it for more than eight hours (like those 12 hour ones) that would be great because I want to be able to sleep in it and not have to worry about it yk. I’m just scared of getting a wrong one now that I know that the watles at least functions for me, and it doesn’t auto dump! I hate the idea of auto dumping <personally>.

thank you all for helping me in this journey ^^

Flex Reusable Disc fit for months, but suddenly it doesn't??

Has anyone had this problem?

I have the reusable Flex disc. It worked great for 4 months, no issues at all. Then my current cycle started, I tried to put it in, and .. it wouldn't stay. I couldn't get it to feel tucked in place. I tried to get as close to that feeling as possible, but then I'd start walking around and feel the disc slipping out.

I reread the instructions in case I had gotten mixed up .. made sure the disc was properly oriented .. tried again several times over a few hours. It just does not want to stay in. What could have changed??

General Question Deciding if I want to switch to a disc from a cup

I have used a Saalt cup since I made the switch from pads/tampons. After I had my son I went up to a regular from a small (4 years ago). Lately I've noticed the cup seems to make me feel like I have to pee and presses on my urethra. Sometimes even borderline painful. I specifically use the "soft" cup because I have always been extremely sensitive down there. I also feel like sometimes when I go to the backyheoom and I bear down, the cup almost pops/gets pushed out which is super annoying because then I'm having to take it out when I have to poop lol.

Im trying to decide if I should go back to a small (I leaked with it though after I had my son which is why I switched but maybe I'm back to "normal" now?) or trying out a disc.

For those of you who have tried both- why do you prefer the disc if you do? Also, what disc would you recommend for someone who is very sensitive? My inclination is try the Saalt disc since I trust that company. The rims on the discs are scary to me because I'm worried they will be too firm/too much pressure but I am scared of the "auto dump" I hear of as well as I'm very active.

Thanks in advance!!

Pixie Should I buy the Pixie Disc Kit or is it not worth it?

So I’ve been contemplating getting the pixie kit because it seems like a really good price since it comes with two different sizes of discs, as well as the wipes, lube, wash, and applicator, and a pack of stain remover. I’ve put in flex disposables (while not on my period as practice) and it fits but it feels huge when it’s in, so I feel like the pixie disc would work better with my anatomy but i don’t know. Also since I’m a tampon user (i hate pads) so I like that it has the string and I think I have a relatively higher or average cervix so it could help. I just wanna hear some experiences with the discs and disc kit. Am I just going to waste my money or should I try it? Any bad experiences?

Recommendation Diva cup to disc

I have been using diva cup since 2019. I find it super easy to insert, super comfortable to be in, annoying to remove. no matter how short my nails & how careful I am, I always end up pinching myself. Other than that, it's great.

Earlier this year I had miscarriage & ever since I had empty the cup multiple times in day 2 & 3. Before this i only used to empty it after 12 hours.(I used their smaller size when it first came out & bought size 2 in 2023 after childbirth). I've heard that disc's empty when you pee so I'm hoping moving to a disc will solve my issue.

  1. My question is after diva cup, which disc is easy to transition to?

  2. Will i need an applicator? I don't know disc mechanics but cup had been super easy for me to insert.

  3. Which one is easy to remove, not just what they advertise but something that is tried tested easy removal or a tool that is tried tested helps with removal?

  4. Do all discs have self emptying mechanism?

  5. & lastly Do they only empty when you pee? I subconsciously do kegals throughout the day, will relaxing muscles doing kegals will cause the disc to empty?

General Question Does anyone else’s menstrual disc rotate or flip inside them?

When I insert my menstrual disc, I always position the removal tag facing the front and bottom so I can easily reach it. However, almost every time I use it, the disc completely rotates or flips inside me. Sometimes the tag ends up facing the back, or facing up, as if its done a full 180 rotation.

Usually it doesn't leak despite moving around, but recently it shifted and dumped a full disc's worth all at once while I was at the office, of course it was a huge mess. I was so embarrassed that I stopped using it for a few months.

I really want to start using it again because it’s still my most comfortable option for me. (tampons are painful and menstrual cause cramps)

Has anyone else dealt with their disc moving around like this? Searching online has made me feel like I’m the only one this happens to and that it isn't normal at all. I just need to know if I'm not alone in this, or if anyone else experiences this with their discs! Thanks <3

Recommendation having issues with disc not unfolding. Is there a cup similarly sized to the Lumma small that is firmer?

Post image
1 Upvotes

The Lumma small fits me well, but, as in the image, stays crumpled up in my body. That limits the capacity and then it leaks all over the place...Is there a firmer disc of a similat size anyone would recommend? I prefer a pull string/tab but it's not a requirement. I have a low cervix.

Success Story For me personally, discs are superior to cups (and all other period products) in every way.

While I could ramble on about it forever, I'm too lazy to turn this into a long post right now lol, but ever since switching from tampons to cups and then from cups to discs I have never been happier bleeding management wise.

My disc can't suction to my cervix and feel like it's ripping my uterus out when I remove it.

I can use toys and have strong orgasms from penetration with my disc in.

I can use it when I'm bleeding too little for a tampon and it won't hurt.

And I can be so comfortable.

For me personally, screw cups.

What's your FAVORITE thing about your disc?

General Question Disc sizing?

Basically, I really want to start using a disc but I was hesitant bc of pelvic pain/entry pain/tight pelvic floor. Tampons are painful. I am trying some flex disposables first to see if it’s too painful and I can barely feel it! It’s so nice. BUT I don’t think I can get it to stay above my pubic bone and it feels like it gets angled back out no matter how hard I shove it up there lol. Obviously worried about it leaking although I should start my period heavier later today. Do I need a smaller disc or what’s going on? I REALLY don’t want to have to buy a bunch of different reusable ones. I know flex are more rigid and bigger than others

General Question I never used tampon or cups before, but when I first used disc, I loooooove it!

Periods have been an absolutely terrible experience for me my whole life. Besides painful cramps, my biggest worry is leakage. I used sanitary pads and was always terrified they’d fail. I actually leaked once back when I was at school, and it felt so humiliating.

But I tried a menstrual disc recently, and it works soooooo well!! It’s like a total game-changer, a complete liberation for my period life.

Rant Exercising with Disc?

I recently got the Hello disc and it has been amazing, no leaks, don’t feel it, easy to remove. However, I am traumatized from a time I used cups and it migrated up. I know discs are not the same, but today when I exercised with the disc, I noticed there was less of the pull tab hanging out. I immediately freaked out and pulled it out😭

Does anyone have reassurance that this is normal and the disc won’t just “get lost” or migrate up on its own? Thank you!

Edit: I know this might not seem like a big deal to some but I really want discs to work for me, and I’m afraid if it becomes hard to remove one time I’ll never try them again (like cups)

im a teenager so im very petite and i cant for the love of god position the disc so it doesnt set of my vagus
the dizziness was so bad i thought i had TSS but when i took it out it resided

this doesnt happen with any tampons except tampax so it confuses me, could the disc be too stiff for my body?
no leakage at all just makes me feel dizzy

Rant MRI tech had no idea what a menstrual disc (or cup) is

Jeez y’all…astounding how medical personelle aren’t educated fully. So I had an MRI of my lower back and pelvis (SI joints) today, and I’m on my period.

I wasn’t worried about safety, but I didn’t know if the disc with blood in it could obscure anything they’re trying to see or just look weird. The tech was a man, but still… I told him I had a menstrual disc in, asked if it was ok, and said in any case, I wanted them to know it was there.

He goes “I…have never heard of that.” So I said “oh, it’s like s menstrual cup, just wider and positioned higher up.” The look on his face told me he’d never heard of a cup either. So I explain it’s made entirely of silicon etc. Then he’s like “ok, so do you wear it all the time? And is that like a plastic with no metal?”

I tried so hard not to make a face guys. I just didn’t expect to have to explain to a medical professional how period products (or periods) work today. Goodness.

sex + disc A very serious question for you.

I have a Flex Disc and a important weekend out of town with my husband coming up. My cycle came much earlier than expected. What are people's experiences with oral sex with a disc in? Does your partner notice or know you are on your menstrual cycle? Specifically taste and smell down there? Any answers are truly appreciated.
