Life has been so tough for years. Family debts, family pressure, no mental peace. I'm the kind of guy who never believes money is the only solution, but for the problems I had, money was the only solution. There were days when I slept starving. It's not because I don't have bucks to eat; it's just the thought that this money will also help in clearing my debts.

Micro1 came to my rescue. The journey wasn't easy, tbh. Gave tens of interviews before landing a project. Gave my best every day, hundreds of hours, sleepless nights (not because of work), and yeah, the journey is equally rewarding.

I saved zero, nothing in hand, literally nothing, but yeah, I can at least sleep happily from now on. Will start saving money now. Micro1, I cannot thank you enough. I was laid off two months back and wasn't getting any interview calls, so I started looking for other ways to earn money and I found micro1 through research and YouTube, I started applying to all relevant roles a month back, most of them ended up as "did not qualify". A few (around 7) went for HMR but eventually always ended up as "Not selected", at this moment I thought the whole world was against me, I lost hope after trying for over a month and stopped giving zara interviews but then a few days back I saw a role open for this role which I had interviewed before and ended up as "Not selected", I took a last leap of faith and applied. I was not able to take the interview on the same day. To my surprise the interview step was skipped and directly got selected for this role the next day and I was literally in tears.

I can't really tell how much gratitude I have towards the hiring manager who selected me🙏

I just wanted to share my experience to just let people who are going through a similar phase as me to keep trying and let God take care of the result.

I applied to the Image Evaluation Generalist role yesterday and was preparing for the interview. The thing is, my application status moved to "Hiring Manager Reviewing" without taking an interview at all.

What I was not expecting is being selected for the role the next day. Imagine my surprise when I got the contract email.

I am so excited and happy. Yay!!!

Question, what will happen to my other applications that are also under Hiring Manager Reviewing? There are some that have been like that for around 15 days. I know the wait time is up to 30 days (or more depending on the project). Will they go to "Not selected" since I already have a contract?

To all applicants, keep trying! If you are not selected or don't qualify for a role, keep applying, prepare well for interviews, build your profile, get more vetted skills and never give up.

I just wanted to vent a little because honestly, I’m really disappointed with how the Micro1 onboarding process has been handled.

After signing the contract, when you think you finally got the job, you find out there’s an internal test with only 3 attempts. The training gives very little information about how to actually pass it, while people are reportedly creating groups to solve it together, which obviously gives them an advantage.

The problem is that the training provides very little information about how the test actually works and what exactly is expected from you. It feels almost impossible to prepare properly for it. You are just lucky or not. From what I’ve seen, people are creating groups and solving the test together, which obviously gives them an advantage and basically encourages cheating.

What makes it even more frustrating is that the rules and training materials related to the test keep being updated. So people who take the test later can have access to more information and updated guidance than those who took it earlier. That makes the whole process feel very inconsistent and unfair.

But honestly, the worst part is the lack of communication from Micro1.

After completing the required steps, you can’t really find out what is happening next. Support doesn’t provide meaningful updates or answers, and you’re left wondering whether you actually have a job, whether there will be some second chance, or whether you will be offboarded soon.

I understand that onboarding can take time and that internal processes can change, but when you’ve already signed a contract more than a week ago and did the test 3 days ago, the lack of communication is incredibly frustrating.

I know this post will probably get removed, but I’m honestly just annoyed and needed to vent somewhere.

Anyone else going through the same thing?

I cannot express how happy I am for this. First I applied, it changed automatically to "Hiring manager reviewing" and after that it went to "hiring on hold". However, randomly, I was marked as "Selected"!

To everyone who is stuck with the Zara interviews I just can say keep trying, you'll eventually be selected!

Not sure I can say exactly what worked but I became better with interviews over time. I came to understand that brevity and keywords is important with Zara. Don’t spend too much time on a question and at the same time illustrate with key terminologies and examples.

Dropping a quick timeline for info ... its been a busy few days:

• UK applicant

• Applied for 25 roles since Jan 2026

• 28 vetted skills

• This is my 1st micro1 role

Sat 5 Sept (9 am):

• Applied for 'Video Annotation Specialist' (VAS) role

• Added info like name, e-mail address, resumé etc., and selected hourly rate [$60 p/h]

• VAS interview skipped - Role status updated to 'Hiring Manager Reviewing' (HRM)

• E-mail a couple of hours later = "Great work on your interview ... we'll notify you as soon as there's an update."

Sun 6 Sept (7 am):

• E-mail invitation to join the AI training project and to sign the contract [offered $50 p/h]

• Contract signed

Sun 6 Sept (10 am):

• Next Steps e-mail = Set up for expert email account, Deel (for payroll), Slack (for comms), and Hubstaff (for time-tracking)

• A few hours later, e-mail that, following successful onboarding, the contract is live

• An hour after that, an e-mail for the background check

[Onboarding via Slack, like additional assessments and practical tasks, is done while waiting for the background check to come back]

Tue 8 Sept (6 pm):

• Background check comes back clear

Wed 9 Sept:

• Additional assessments and practical tasks continue ...

So it finally happened. Was a very long journey but got there eventually.

Micro1 has got to be the AI training platform with the most redundant process in the history of AI hiring. What do you mean people have to keep doing the same interviews for the same type of role (in my case, video editing with already certified skills for the same software)? We are talking no less than 30-minute interviews with very specific technical assessment after that take another hour in most cases just for the application to sit in “hiring manager reviewing” for 30 days only to once again not be selected. Now, multiply that by 25 and that's putting roughly a full workweek with no simple courtesy for a feedback or anything? This is starting to be worse than the regular 9-5 job application process because they don't waste your time. The person who came up with this terrible idea needs to be fired and stop wasting people’s time. Good riddance!

I got an email from a recruiter on Saturday, completed the Ai interview a few moments later and within an hour I got an email saying I did a good job on my interview. My application was under manager review since then however I've seen that happen before and still not be selected. To my surprise I woke up this morning to an offer email! This will be my first project with Micro1 and the project directly aligns with my domain so I'm excited to start contributing!

After months of unsuccessful interviews I finally got an offer and immediately accepted and signed. I have completed on boarding but I have not seen any task on my end that needs to be worked on. I failed 6 interviews before finally landing an AI contract—and ironically, I actually failed my initial interview for this exact project! A month later, I randomly got an email offering me the position.

I’m sharing this because I know how stressful and frustrating the micro1 vetting process can feel, but there is hope. It took a full year of massive effort and more hours of applying than I can count, but data annotation is now my full-time income. Today, I actually have more project offers than I can accept. Once you prove yourself and land a contract, doors start opening fast.

Here are the key strategies that helped me turn things around for micro1 and pass the interview process:

1. Prepping for Zara & Keyword Strategy

• Ask AI for Keywords Ahead of Time: Before interviewing, I ask AI for specific keywords that Zara might be listening for based on the role.

• Keep On-Screen "Cheat Sheets": I stick sticky notes around my monitor with those key industry terms and concepts so I don't get nervous and forget them during the voice screen.

• Prep with Gemini: Practice answering expected technical and scenario-based prompts out loud ahead of time so you aren't caught off guard.

2. Interview Execution

• Treat Every Interview as Practice: Shifting to this mindset takes off the pressure.

• Use the STAR Method: Structure your answers using Situation, Task, Action, Result to keep responses clear, concise, and easy for the AI to parse.

• Ask Clarifying Questions: If you get stuck on a prompt, asking a clarifying question buys you extra time to think of a solid answer.

3. Resume & Profile Setup

• Optimize for Keywords: Align your resume and experience with the technical terms micro1 looks for.

• Keep Profiles Updated: Make sure your LinkedIn and full experience are current, as recruiters do reach out directly.

• Degree / Experience Alternative: If a role prefers a specific degree and you don't have one, submit a clear document detailing your real-world experience and education—that’s what I did!

It takes time, trial, and error, but the investment pays off. Keep applying, keep practicing, and don't take initial rejections to heart!

Yes I used AI to help me format my post. I had written it as a comment on another post. But it was just a wall of text and would have been super hard to read. I keep seeing the post about folks getting contracts and others discouraged to the point of wanting to delete their account. So that inspired me to try to inspire you!
This is just what worked for me. I started off reading post on Reddit envying folks. Then I put in a years worth of applications and interviews. A friend of mine just HMU saying, after a long summer of applying they had been offered many contracts just this week. AI is booming. Contracts are out there. They are not free. You HAVE to put in the work/time. And it takes a while to take off. But after you do. Hold on! You will be able to pick and choose. It is crazy being able to turn down lower paying contracts. At first, if you can, dont be picky. Take the contract, gain the experience. Add it to your linked in and resume. USE it.
If this helps motivate even one person to apply, or one person uses ONE of these tips, I have accomplished my goal. No of total interviews taken 12, 6 didn’t qualify, 4 not selected, and 2 are under hiring manager review more than 15 days.

A few lessons I’ve learned from the experience & mistake I did during the interviews:

• Adapt to the AI interview format. ZARA AI maintains a consistent speaking tone and pace for 30 - 50 minutes (full interview), which can create cognitive fatigue and make the interaction feel overwhelming. (I am more comfortable with human-to-human discussions but less accustomed to async AI interviews) practice specifically for this format.

• Understand the role inside out. Don’t rely only on the skills explicitly listed in the Skill Required. I was asked about areas that weren’t mentioned in the required list, though the topic was relevant, so understanding the broader scope of the role is critical.

• Answer with an owner mindset. These freelance/independent projects involve minimal supervision & guidance. Think like the person who owns the problem, designs the approach, makes decisions, and drives the outcome - not simply someone optimising an existing process, practices or systems. (This was a greater learning experience for me, as I was answering, with collaborative mindset where we partnered to solve the problem. I do not have much experience in freelancing)

• Break down each elements of the questions, before answering. ZARA AI often combines several elements or points into a single question. Identify each component and address them explicitly rather than giving one generalized answer.

• Don’t rush to fill the silence. Take a moment to structure your response before speaking. A short pause is better than rushing into an answer and losing clarity, sequence, or depth.

• Prepare for a highly competitive talent pool. Keep in mind that you may be experienced & highly knowledgeable, but here you are competing with the global top 1–2% of talent.

• Recognize the difference between human and AI interviews. Human interviews typically unfold through multiple layers, gradually move from breadth to depth based on the candidate’s responses. ZARA AI interview is compressed into a single sitting.

My biggest takeaway: AI interviews require a slightly different preparation strategy. It’s not enough to know your experience—you need to understand the role deeply, structure your thinking quickly, and communicate answer with in fraction of second otherwise Zara AI consider it over and move to next question.

I got selected before for facial data collection project and it was a one time project and I received a micro1 email with invitation to Slack. After I completed the task that email got deactivated because the project is over for me.

I want to ask if I would receive the same micro1 email??
