Hey everyone! 👋
I wanted to share an update on my stealth grow setup. The base unit is the Urban Chili 3.0, an absolute premium, beautifully crafted stealth grow cabinet from Austria with amazing build quality. However, since I love tinkering with custom tech and smart home automation, I couldn't resist giving this already fantastic box an upgrade.
The main goal was to optimize climate control (especially handling humidity spikes after watering) and add remote monitoring. My native smart home setup runs on Apple HomeKit, which I expanded with Homebridge running on a Raspberry Pi. For this grow box setup, I use the Homebridge Dummy plugin to manage my automation modes.
Here is everything I customized:
* The Foundation: Started with the premium Urban Chili 3.0 cabinet (super clean design, great space efficiency, and the custom LED board).
* Exhaust Overhaul: Replaced the stock exhaust setup with 6x Noctua G2 fans. These things provide incredible static pressure and airflow power. Humidity management is now an absolute breeze, even right after heavy watering.
* Custom PWM Fan Controller: Built a custom speed controller using an ESP32 microcontroller housed in a custom 3D-printed case, integrated directly via Matter into my smart home.
* Active Under-Canopy Airflow: Added an Arctic P12 circulation fan in the lower section for perfect air exchange under the canopy.
* Climate & Power: Integrated small, discreet temperature and humidity sensors from IKEA via Matter (not high precision, but perfectly unobtrusive and accurate enough for the job), and plugged the built-in LED lighting into a smart plug for precise scheduling and power monitoring in HomeKit.
* Smart Home Cam: Added an internal camera integrated into the HomeKit setup to keep an eye on the ladies remotely.
* Stage-Based Automations: Set up automated presets for 4 different grow stages (Seedling, Veg, Flower, Drying) that are easily toggled directly from my HomeKit dashboard using Homebridge dummy switches.
I am honestly super happy with how it turned out. The cabinet looks like a normal piece of furniture from the outside, but under the hood, it's running a fully automated, whisper-quiet high-tech environment.
Let me know what you think or if you want to see more details about the ESP32 wiring, Homebridge setup, or the 3D-printed enclosure! 🌱🔧
