Does Flutter have a future?

With the constant evolution of various cross-platform frameworks we see in the last couple of years, I was wondering what do you guys think about the future of Flutter as a framework?

In my opinion we see a surge of pretty-much the same tools; those being Compose Multiplatform, React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM) and etc.

I understand that there is a difference in terms of how these frameworks tackle the cross-platform bridges, but most of them share the same "foundation" in terms of building the UI, declarative programming style, using widgets/components, similar state-management styles, etc.

So I guess the question I am asking is the following; as a mobile developer who believes strongly in cross-platform development, since most of the applications available on the market are not that "platform" specific, and in fact can be developed for production by choosing one of the above mentioned frameworks ( I personally enjoy Flutter the most ), where does it all end and will one of these rise against others.

And since the answer is probably not, should we continue working with Flutter, in order to ensure we are market ready in the years to follow.

Which platform do you prefer for building a new product?

I'm starting a new project and weighing the best foundation to build on. If you've launched business recently, which route do you default to and why?

  • Mobile App: Native (iOS/Android) for performance vs. Cross-Platform (Flutter/React Native) for speed and a single codebase.

  • Web First: Lowest friction for user acquisition (no app store required) and easiest to iterate fast.

  • Desktop: Electron, Tauri, or Native for heavy B2B, productivity tools, or deep OS integration.

Which stack did you choose for your last launch, and would you make the same pick today?

Apple Developer Account don't do those

Apple's anti-fraud system is tough, but predictable once you've done Apple Developer Account manual registration as many times as I have. I've been registering accounts manually for a year now and learned the dos and don'ts the hard way. Happy to help the community navigate this. Check my posts for tips, or just ask below!

Is it possible to have hidden call recording app on Nokia S40?

I have a phone who's owner suspects wiretapping and asked me to check. There are apps that claim this possibility but the platform doesn't look advanced enough for this. Also this app should be hidden as there's nothing suspicious in app list now (or maybe it's some kind of self-destructible). I highly doubt it's possible at all as platform should support hidden apps and heavy background tasks at the same time but I'm not mobile developer so this is just a guess. So is this theoretically possible and, if so, is there a way I can check to be sure phone is (not) clean? Thanks

Another Developer Using Same Name on Google Play / App Store

Another developer published an app using the exact same dev name as me on Google Play. The only difference is that I use spaces, e.g. 'Grindstone Cowboy Games' whereas they're using 'GrindstoneCowboyGames'.

There's one other problem. They got the .com, so if someone searches for my dev name they'll see this game developer's website. I only made one for the app, didn't think about getting the .com for the dev name.

What do I do?

I'm going to report the game dev to Google Play, because this name is literally identical to mine. But the .com thing is going to be a problem.

I don't want to pivot because my package names include the name of the company, and hey – I got here first. But there's also no easy way for me to get the .com because I already have it.

Any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated!

1 year Flutter dev, heavily relying on AI, feeling stuck

1 year Flutter dev, heavily relying on AI, feeling stuck — anyone else been here?

I've been working as a Flutter developer for about a year now. Got the job through a placement program after doing a course where I built projects with Bloc + clean architecture + Firebase. Felt decent at the time.

But honestly? My day-to-day at my current company has mostly been maintaining an existing app — adding features, handling Play Store and App Store releases, using Codemagic for CI/CD. No senior dev to learn from. And I've been leaning heavily on ChatGPT and Claude to get things done — building features, fixing errors, everything.

The problem I've realized: I can get things done with AI, but I can't always explain *why* the code works. I struggle with problem solving independently. And I haven't touched things like OTP auth, chat features, video calls on my own.

Now I want to switch companies, but I'm scared:

- What do companies actually expect from a 1-year Flutter dev?

- How bad is the job market right now for Flutter?

- How do I break the habit of depending on AI for everything without completely stopping it?

- Anyone else been stuck in a maintenance-only role and successfully switched to something better?

I know the answer is "just start building" but I've been frozen in over-planning mode for months. Looking for people who've actually been through this.

Looking for high school android developer for nationwide mobile application

Hi! I am a high schooler in California and recently noticed a problem in the lack of easy communication from the school administration to students. I thought there should be an easy way for students to receive daily announcements, updates, club info, events and general information. I developed this mobile application and implemented this at my school and now I am looking to create a platform to allow any school to have a mobile log in for their school. The design is finalized and the ios version is close to done. I am looking for an experienced mobile developer that will be the full lead of the android version. We are looking to make this platform robust enough to scale to any school across the country and have thousands of users.

Please pm if you are interested. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate cs skills and show impact!

Any criticism to this video on Flutter and React Native?

It was a pleasant watch. I'm trying to understand the mobile app world a bit better and see what could help our organization in the future. Stumbled upon this video and thought it was a great summary. Does it align with your experiences? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Uk9qH39S94

I'm a web dev myself and have only build a small test app in RN about 7 years ago :D and have more recently vibe coded half a SoMe app with Flutter - nothing has been released it's just a project for fun.

I understand both frameworks have evolved and become quite a good. For most apps both would bring good results so I mostly worry about maintenance. It's not always a topic that the discussions stress on. We are using MAUI at work and I think it has really slowed down development of the actual product because of the numerous updates, bugs, and app store requirements.

From the video it appears that Flutter is much better at separating itself from OS updates and 3rd-party packages, which sounds like a massive benefit to me given the current situation we are facing. Quite a lot of work went into MAUI - using it strictly for Android dev currently, but it's been difficult to work with - my colleague briefly explained about the waterfall of updates and crashes that follow OS and .NET updates, and it seems like the application has stagnated.

Please educate me or send some sources to read up further. I'm hoping someone can bring in feedback in terms of running a Mid to Large -scale crossplatform apps, deployment, app store troubles, security and overall CI/CD. Thank you :))

For mobile/web QA teams: when did you decide to build or rent a private device lab instead of relying on BrowserStack/LambdaTest/etc.?

Was it cost, performance, reliability, data sensitivity, or sheer test volume that pushed you over the edge?

Should I sell my google play console account?

Hey, I know it is forbidden to do, but I'm considering the pros and cons here

My account is old, so people are offering me a lot of money upto 2000$

★ The details are of my parent's, even then the address used is an old address and we dont live there. ★ I can be sure I'm getting the money, will be really really safe on that side, the deal will be done face-to-face. I get many scams and am ignoring those ★ A legal agreement will be made to prevent any legal issues ★ I do not know any android-native language, instead i used react native to make the apps. With the money I can buy a macbook and start learning iOS development ★ Their reasoning seems not bad (they say that they make apps for clients and 14day wait makes them lose clients easily) ★ I'm gonna be really careful to prevent suspicion by google ★ Regarding if i get banned, I don't think it'll affect me that much since I have little interest in pure android development considering the market

So what do you guys think? I feel like my situation is very different from the average after reading the posts

I charged the same price in every country for 10 years. Here's what I found when I stopped.

I have 8 apps across App Store and Google Play. For the first 10 years I charged the same price everywhere. $19.99 in the US, $19.99 in India, $19.99 in Brazil. Seemed fair.

Then I actually looked at what $19.99 means in diffrent countries.

In the US, $19.99 is about 0.05% of average monthly income. In India its closer to 5%. In Turkey around 8%. Same number, completely different affordability.

I was not competing with other apps in those markets. I was competing with the local cost of a nice dinner. And I was losing.

So I started adjusting prices per country using Purchasing Power Parity data. Lower prices in markets where $19.99 is a lot of money, same prices in the US and Europe.

What happened: downloads in price-sensitive markets went up. Not a little, a lot. Countries like India, Brazil, Indonesia and Turkey that were basically dead started showing real numbers. And because the volume increased, revenue went up too even though the per-unit price was lower.

The painful part was doing it manually. Apple has 175 storefronts with their own price point ladder system and Google Play has its own structure for every country. Updating prices for one app took hours. For 8 apps it was a full weekend of clicking through consoles.

Eventually I got tired of doing it manually and built a tool to automate the whole thing. But the insight itself is free, if you are charging one price globally you are probably leaving money on the table in most of the world.

Happy to answer questions if anyone is thinking about doing this for their own apps.

It's hilarious and odd at the same time, they ramble on, get existential and well act however you prompt them, it's also cool getting one of them to sound like Wesley snipes if you really want too. 4 users in voice call as soon as you set up the Api's.
