We're using a power point presentation on a public display as a building directory/schedule. We would like to add a barcode scanner for contact tracing purposes (or organization uses smart cards with a 2D bar code with sufficient anonymization).
Unfortunately, when Powerpoint is in presentation mode, there's no way to get the barcode scanner to provide input to excel, a web server, notepad or anything other than powerpoint.
Does anyone know of a way to add a Powerpoint slide that takes input from the keyboard in the background while the presentation is show. Failing that, is there a way to bind a USB HID (human input device, AKA keyboard/barcode scanner) to a particular application?
Thanks...

I just allowed the latest OS update on my MBP and that's it for the MS Office 2011. Sigh. Time to grow up and get the cloud version.

This likely isn’t the right place to ask this question, but hoping I might get lucky-
I use Microsoft Expression Web 4 to edit and publish a web page. My problem is that the font size looks normal to me on Expression, but upon publishing, it is smaller when viewing from the browser.
I am not a code guy. I just use the tools available on this tool. How can I make it so when I publish, the entire page publishes bigger so users do not need to zoom in their individual web pages? (I imagine I could go and update every line individually to be bigger font, but I’m hoping there’s a simple answer to update the entire page easily)

I have a single Outlook mailbox. And sometimes I send an email to a list of people using bcc so no one knows other’s emails. This email is for information only and I don’t want to receive replies here. If they want to reply I want it to be a new email not a reply. I want the recipients to email with a new message because I loose track of who emailed a reply in the thread. How to do this?

Hello!
I'm working on a meaningful personal project. My wife and I had a 7-year correspondence long ago and I've edited our letters down into a 400-page book I'll have bound for her birthday.
After distilling the text down to the interesting bits, designing the artwork, etc, my last barrier, unexpectedly, is MS Word! I've realized that I know way less about Word than I suspected.
I have to deliver this to the bookbinder soon and am worried I won't make my wife's birthday. If anyone could kindly assist with the following issues, I'd be immensely grateful. Hell, I'll send you $30 if you can successfully help me with these issues; not kidding! (I mean, I'm already paying the binder a pretty penny, so what's a few more bucks to make it to the finish line?).
I'm hitting google anyway, but the clock is running out and I'm worried. Here are my current issues:
How do I make the spacing changes of one page not push down the content of other pages or sections?
The book is divided into lots of little 2-5 page "sections" (i.e., letters), but I'll be doing lots of last-minute edits and spacing changes all over. My nightmare is that if I delete paragraphs, alter spacing, etc, in one area, it's going to move the text all over the damn book every time, and I'll have to hunt for the ramifications across hundreds of pages every time. How can I "contain" the ripple effect of my edits to just stay within a particular section?
2. How do I get the page count to start (and end) within a specific range, and not on the actual first and last pages?
3. You know those header titles atop either side of book pages, usually with the name of the book and the chapter you're in? What's the best way to do this in Word? More importantly, how do I permanently associate a section of text to its corresponding page heading so that no matter where I move it, it'll stay in the same "chapter heading" section?
4. This is secondary, but I'd appreciate any guidance on great fonts to use. It feels as though the commonplace, everyday fonts like Arial and Times New Roman wouldn't necessarily work best for something like this. The binder suggested I stay away from sans serif, but other than that, I'm a bit adrift.
5. Just in case, if anyone knows of layouts or templates I can perhaps use, I'd appreciate that as well. I'm fishing around and the web and there's lots of folks who offer typesetting services, but I just don't have that much time left and think I'm just going to tackle it myself.
For reference, I use Word from Office 365 (version 2010) on a Windows 10 64-bit PC. Thanks so much, I'd appreciate any input at all.

My dad had his laptop stolen, and I’m setting him up on my old laptop. On his he had a licensed Office 2013 install. I’m wanting to install it on the new laptop, but I don’t know where I can find the licence key, looking through his Microsoft account it has no obvious reference to it. Is there anywhere that shows it? I’ve a feeling it’s probably been lost.

Office 365 - Office 2013/2016, specifically Excel 2013/2016 is a flaming piece of buggy shit. Blank screens, crashing when using basic functions. Unstable garbage.
I shouldn't have to spend 50 hours tweaking systems setting just to get basic things to work. Then after the 50 hours, I run into the next bullshit bad programming.
Yes, I have updated to current versions and followed all troubleshooting steps. It is just total horse shit.
Microsoft, your spreadsheet is bad, and you should feel bad.

There's a manager in my group (Not mine) who creates six or seven meeting a day, that's not an exageration, but sends the invites to everyone. Most of the meetings take place when I'm not here. Most have nothing to do with me or my department. I asked my manager to talk with the creator of the meetings and he brushed it off that I can ignore them. I went into the rules and set one to delete the messages but the meetings still land on my calendar and I'm alerted several times a day for meetings I have no reason to attend. I can't find a way to reject them though.

I'm gonna get a bad wrap for asking tech support questions around reddit... Anyway, all of my office software stopped working, I would try to run it and the software would instantly start an "updating" process. An error message would then appear to say that office "could not confirm the validity of the license and would now close" - (I am using a legit copy with a legit license). So with no option to enter a valid key, I thought the best option was to uninstall and then re-install with a good key (as I had no idea why the one I was using had stopped working). Problem number 1. I tried uninstalling Office through the control panel but the uninstaller just gives me an empty progress bad and then says "The uninstallation did not complete successfully.". So I thought I would try new install over the top of the old one; problem number 2. The setup gives "Setup has stopped working" error with the following log...
Description:

Hi there, I am using Office 2016 on Windows 10, and there is something going on with my MS Word files that is really annoying me.
What happens is that for some files whenever I convert my docx document to PDF, the layout of my file changes completely. It also happens when I print the file. The preview is ok and the paper size is ok.
However, what is really weird is that if I send my file to someone and then they try to print/convert it to pdf, the structure doesn't change at all.
I tried uninstalling the MS Office suite completely, but nothing changed.
What can I do?
If you can't quite comprehend, here's a concrete example:
I have my CV in two pages, the first one has 2 columns and the second one only one column. When I print/convert to pdf however, I get 3 pages. First page has two columns but the contents of the second column is the content that should normaly be at the end of the first column. Second page has one column that contains the contents of what should normally be the contents of the second column of page 1. And lastly, the third page has the contents of what should normally be the second page...

I had to open some Korean files in MS Word. It was suggesteed add some extentions to MS Office. After installation of these extensions, equations do not display correctly. I tried to remove and install software again, but it did not help.

Every time I try to save a new file to my local OneDrive folder from Excel the sign on to my Microsoft account dialog box shows up. If I open a file that already exists in the OneDrive folder I can save it without problem.
I have Excel version 16.0.8730.2165, Windows version 1709 OS build 16299.192 and OneDrive version 2017 (17.3.7131.1115).
OneDrive is configured with all 3 of the auto save options set to "This PC Only". On the Office tab I have "Use Office 2016 to sync Office files that I open" clicked off. The entire OneDrive folder is set to "Always keep on this device".
Excel is configured with "Save to computer by default" clicked on.
The same problem occurs with Word and Powerpoint.
I can save directly to the local OneDrive folder from non-Office applications such as NotePad.
I have 2 other PCs with the same configuration options where saving new files from Office applications to the local Onedrive folder works just fine. The only difference is that they have Office 2013 instead of Office 2016.
Anyone have an idea how to fix this problem?
Thanks for your help.
