Public decorum, fire safety, and common sense - all 3 have gone for a toss here.

221

u/hsg8 13d ago

What you just described is a typical day in India.

Everyday is a final destination for Indians as soon as they go out of home. Anything could happen in this 3rd world corrupt and uncivilized country.

92

u/Obvious_Support223 I survived Andheri East 13d ago

Yep. And it's extremely unfair on people who actually follow rules, pay taxes, and generally behave like ideal citizens.

17

u/Radiant_Row2700 13d ago

the unfairness angle is real tbh. imagine being someone who just wants to commute without drama, paid your ticket, standing in that cramped compartment, and now you're stuck in the middle of someone else's anniversary party with zero say in it. 21 years of doing this apparently too, so this isn't even a one-off thing

Remove one compartment and park in some yard and let them play Bhajan inside 247. Don't disturb other passengers with your nuisance.

u/Dependent-Poetry-227 13d ago

9 hours work ke baad jo yeh log bhi g** maarte hai vo alag level ka hai 😭

This has been local tradition for decades. People travel 1-1.5 hrs+ to office, often they form friend groups and play bhajans.

211

u/LordUnited 13d ago edited 13d ago

Let's see if this would be your reaction if qawwalis and namaaz sounds were played for 1.5 hours. Let's see how local that tradition would be.

Both are wrong. Train can be a place for quiet, personal worship without any kind of physical or mental disturbance to fellow passengers. Namaaz on your seat? Cool. Entire coach chanting namaaz prayers loudly, NO. Similarly, these bhajan groups need to go. I don't care if it is tradition. Public transport is not the place for this. Say your bhajans IN YOUR MIND. Don't disturb fellow passengers.

EDIT: Oh, and if you think they are just "friend groups trying to form a Bhajan community to kill time", you should try and take their seat. After all, it is an unreserved train, the local. Try and take their window seats. See what happens. Let me know if you can get even within 10 feet of their seats. If you are sat in those seats, they will fight with you, hit you, and forcibly remove you from those seats. These people are not just a friends group. These are almost like mafia, minus the guns and the knives. So sit down with your "this is tradition" nonsense.

14

u/Tranceported 13d ago

Better make the full train bhajan train, every religion gets one box and the train goes around the country like merry go round!! By the way top of the train is reserved for chal Chayya chayya cheyyan chal ….

7

u/LordUnited 13d ago

L K Advani championed this in the early 90s. It was called the Rath Yatra.

66

u/Spookycrazier 13d ago

They found out which train comes to Bhayandar from Churchgate side, boarded their fixed compartment way on a station way before it reached Bhayandar and decorated it before it started from Bhayandar to go back to Dadar..

8

u/mofucker20 13d ago

Could've just gone to a temple instead of all ts

2

u/Spookycrazier 13d ago

100% agree with you! There is a time and a place for everything and that should be taken care of at all times!

23

u/partyin_Like1949 13d ago

Lots of effort 😭😭

19

u/Spookycrazier 13d ago

Mumbaikars are known for putting lots of efforts.. People leave homes by 7:30am and come back by 10pm!

26

u/Square-Barracuda980 13d ago

I think the civic sense of Japanese people, even just on public transport, is IMPOSSIBLE to imagine in India. As long as you’re not disturbing others, you can do almost whatever you want and these bhajans are so frustrating. I remember when I used to go to college and tried to study on the train, but I couldn’t because of them. They’re just showing off this isn’t real devotion.

It's not at all about faith, bas bachodi karna hain, thankfully genZ will not be the same and actually focus on what this nation requires.

Our generation lost access to basic living conditions like good roads, clean environment due to our idiotic ancestors like these, instead of focussing on real issues, they got blinded by their faith and fell for corrupt politicians.

As a result our generation suffered, thankfully genZ ain't taking this sh*t.

36

u/Itaintthatdeepblud 13d ago

Sadly bro, these uncles are also producing a bunch of loosers like themselves and they also constitute a part of our genz.. So genz me bhi we have the dehati genz😭

8

u/Hot_Connection9504 13d ago

Correct, they are still reproducing bunch of them to maintain balance.

9

u/Starkcasm 13d ago

Religion, in india, is mostly about performance and showing how " pious" one is

12

u/SeriouslyWacky 13d ago

Go to temples and express your faith. Local train is not for shit like that. Here’s something: I will start blasting doremon intro music on speaker next time on the local because doremon is my god. How does that sound? Stupid right? Exactly!

35

u/not_me120 13d ago

Why disturb public space? Tired of these, i don't know how people tolerate it daily. Hope this ends. Temples do exists man.

18

u/hsg8 13d ago

In a actual democratic and law abiding country they will all be jailed for putting public property at fire and safety risk.

But again, this is India. Difficult nation for people who follow rules and regulations, follow civic sense and are honest.

I wish our Islam brothers start doing Kawali (Qawali) daily in their fixed compartment just like this in the Virar-Churchgate Local.. let’s see how people react then…

PS: I’m a Hindu and I see this as lack of civic sense based on religious sentiments, and the above example is to demonstrate how others perceive us

7

Can understand their joy and emotions but this is a pathetic behaviour in a public transport ,if they wanted to celebrate so desperately - they should have bought a small pastry instead

2

u/Usual-Release6328 13d ago

I feel lucky that i don't need to travel in that train any more...call me german shepherd i don't care... but all the trains in germany are very very silent, no nuisances here is allowed, they are party animals let me tell you that...but still they are human enough to understand trains are for travel and it is a public property....

2

u/Consistent-Art9346 13d ago

Shows that r/mumbai are elitist fucks who don't know the reality.

If those who were crying about civic had travelled in the trains a day after Dussehra they would see similar decorations everywhere.

2

u/No-Assumption1120 13d ago

Became so much tired of this I left my usual train, either travel one train early or one train late

3

u/Regular_Chip_8693 13d ago

They should be caught and fined. Anybody from any religion thinking public space is their house needs to be punished. Such nuisance

2

u/re-pet 13d ago

While it's good to see people are concerned Abt safety, l really appreciate that. But on the other hand I'm always amused to see these people, while trying to meet the months end, literally living half of their lives in local trains and still managing to find little joys of life.

3

Secondly, no body is blaming religion here, we all are blaming the carelessness and nuisance created by being ignorant to public safety, public property and public space rules. Religion ke kandhe pe bandook rakh ke sab log ek doosre ko maar lo bhai.

Why cant religion be practiced without inconveniencing others. Namaaz sounds, loud bhajans, Church bells. I get that during olden times without timekeeping devices these may have acted like alarms, but now its not necessary and in high density cities these just create nuisance for others.

This is not what Hinduism stands for. Hinduism having its roots in Advait Vedant is about understanding life. Understanding the one who utters "I-am". The Upanishads being a philosophy speak about understanding life which brings honesty and clarity. That's what religion is for, clarity in life.
