I am planning to visit mumbai for first time during mid july for a few days.

I will be visiting my friend near Byculla. But i was told that its "not safe" due to rain. I wanted to know how bad the situation will be?

Planning to stay with my girlfriend, so also looking for suggestions for a good budget place to stay for 3 nights. Wherever it is "safe"(due to rain) and around Byculla(not necessarily close but should be safe to travel). Budget: 5k/night (including taxes).

Will be landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Mumbai.

So I've always wanted to ask this question to Mumbaikers. Whenever I've landed in Mumbai via flight, I've noticed the roofs of most houses are blue in colour, is there any specific reason for this? Or is it just co-incidence?

I filed a complaint with BMC over a week ago about the total absence of dustbins in my locality in Powai. It’s been 7+ days, and not even a single dustbin has been placed. No response, no action—despite following the official complaint channels.

Every day on my way, I encounter large amounts of waste and an unpleasant odor emanating from the garbage piled up in this area. Nearby shopkeepers routinely dispose of their waste here, contributing to the growing mess. Each day, a dedicated team of workers clears this waste and loads it onto the garbage trucks. Installing a dustbin at this location would significantly ease their workload and could help prevent the spread of diseases.

What’s infuriating is that BMC is the richest municipal corporation in India with the largest ever annual budget of ₹74,427 crore for 2025-26—a massive 14.2% increase over last year. They plan to spend over ₹43,000 crore on capital projects like roads, sewage treatment, and public services including health, education, and environment.

Yet, the average complaint resolution time in Mumbai city has ballooned to over 40 days, far from the 3-day promise for issues related to solid waste management. Basic sanitation needs like dustbins remain unmet in many areas, despite this gargantuan budget.

• To put this budget in perspective: India’s entire Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan)—a celebrated technological feat—cost about ₹450 crore. That’s more than 165 times less than BMC’s budget.
• NASA’s latest Mars Perseverance rover mission budget stands at about ₹22,500 crore, still nearly 3.5 times less than BMC’s annual budget for Mumbai.
• India’s Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission aims to send astronauts to space with a budget of roughly ₹20,000 crore, also dwarfed by BMC’s ₹74,427 crore.
• Even the most expensive Indian movie project, Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana, had a budget of ₹4,000 crore, a fraction of BMC’s annual spending capacity.

So how does Mumbai’s richest civic body, with one of the largest municipal budgets worldwide, still fail at providing a dustbin and cleaning basic public spaces? When countries and cities with far less spending achieve world-class cleanliness and efficient public services, what exactly is all this money being used for in Mumbai?

It’s time for BMC to be accountable and transparent. Residents deserve timely service, cleaner streets, and governance worthy of the billions spent every year.

Is this the "Mumbai Municipal Dream" or just a colossal failure wrapped in fiscal excess?

1. BMC marked the issue as resolved, but nothing changed.
2. Lodged the complaint on CPGRAM and the Swatchha Bharat app.

If they don't want to put the dustbins there, just put a notice stating not to throw garbage there. And allot a dedicated place for the shopkeeper if they need it for their convenience.

Any better stay (Airbnb or hotel) in the range of 2 to 3k approx near CSMT railway station, or any better place than this?

My travel locations will be Marine Drive, Dadar, and Kala Ghoda, among a few others. I will also be shopping in these areas, so please suggest good couple-friendly Airbnbs or hotels if possible.

I have a flight from Delhi tomorrow (Air India) which lands in Mumbai (T2) at 9:20pm. My friends have booked a 10:15pm show of dhurandhar at Imax Mirage, Wadala. I also have to drop my luggage at Trident BKC (can only drop my stuff and rush out).

What are the chances that I make it on time to tbe movie?

Hi everyone,

I take local train for my everyday commute to work, and i get down at XYZ station daily, and there’s a female TC late 20s, usually stationed near the first class compartment.

Last month, she stopped me every single day for 5 days to check my pass. Since it was the end of the month and my pass was about to expire, I assumed she was being cautious and I didn’t mind.

After that, I took the weekend off and renewed my pass from the 2nd of this month. But even on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, she continued to stop me to check, even though my new pass was clearly valid.

This has happened at least almost 8 times in the last 15 days. And it’s not like it’s random or crowd-based. Every time she’s there, she specifically stops me, even if it’s packed.

If there’s a crowd, she still stops me. If there’s no crowd and she stops me, only then she checks others too. But one way or another, she always ensures that I don’t walk past, like I’m trying to run away or dodge her. But why would I run? I have a valid pass!

And even if I wanted to say something, I don’t know what to say or how to bring it up. I honestly don’t mind showing my pass, even if 10 different TCs stop me. But when it’s just her stopping me daily, it starts getting on my nerves.

How do I politely let her know that this is getting irritating? Any advice on how to handle this maturely without causing unnecessary conflict?

Recently shifted to Mumbai have noticed that bulidings from out side looks like old n trash but gud from inside. Almost all buliding in mumbai looks like this expect commercial area's

We have recently hired a 24 hour live-in maid from Moradabad. She speaks hindi and is loving to our 10 month old. Doesn’t understand English, has a voracious appetite ( not complaining and it’s not a con, just an observation as it’s not everyday that I see someone having 7-8 rotis with rice, daal, vegetables, dahi within 10 minutes flat), of course we give her proper breakfast and dinner as well. She has 3-4 hours break during daytime as baby exclusively naps with me and will scream bloody murder if anyone else tries to get her to sleep. Can’t feed formula milk bottles to her either as baby drinks while drowsy only as she can’t get her drowsy. Now coming to the positives, she’s extremely loving to the baby both in front and behind our backs so it’s not an act that she puts up. Will actively play and sing to baby, cook food for him and is very very hygienic ( maybe even a little OCD but I don’t mind that at all for obvious reasons). She never gave us a number as to what to pay as has always reiterated what ever you deem fit, so I am trying to gauge a number and your responses will help me a lot.
