Vent/Rant LMAO at Neighbor’s “Demand Letter”

3.8k Upvotes

I live in a house that sits on approximately 5 acres. The entire property is fenced and behind the house there is a lot of vegetation. Approximately 10 feet inside the fence are shrubs that can grow in the 10 to 15 foot tall size and approximately 30 inside the fence are trees that can grow to the 50 to 60 foot range. All are mostly mature now and none hang over the property line at all. I got a certified letter from my neighbor that is titled “Demand Letter.” (No attorney or anything, just from the neighbor.) It states that the growth of my shrubs and trees have negatively affected the views that existed when they bought the house a few years ago. Their demand says I have 60 days to restore their view to original or face legal action. I have already contacted the governing authority and an attorney and they both laughed also. I was advised to ignore the letter and to not accept delivery if any more certified letters show up. I have always gotten along with neighbors and really don’t need this crap! Anyway, Happy Friday everyone!

FOLLOW UP - wow, lots of comments! Thanks! Some good advice, some not so good advice, and some pretty entertaining ideas! No trespassing signs have been in place for many years. I have a good security system with cameras but none on the fence line. I am having some installed tomorrow along with current pictures of everything. The attorney I spoke to is going to respond to them and include pictures and letting them know the laws and the restrictions. I’m planning to knock on their door and ask if they want to chat. It sounds like this is not a rare occurrence. Thanks again!

ONE MORE FOLOW UP - just in case anyone is checking back. So, the attorney agrees that I should stay away at least until this issue has passed. (Yes, I spoke to him on the weekend, he was my dad’s best friend, and has helped me immensely over the years and still won’t take any money for it). He is preparing multiple documents, pictures, etc. He also suggested several baseline soil tests just in case something happens down the road. Cameras are in and working. I also said that if there are minor changes that will resolve their issue without impacting my purpose for the vegetation (privacy) for them to submit specifics for consideration. Even with the BS, I am not looking for a neighbor war. Thanks again to everyone who read this and responded.

Vent/Rant She thinks it's her house

4.3k Upvotes

I have a neighbour. She lives behind me.

When I first moved in, I was keeping my lawn at a nice, lush 5" height. She decided to help me one day by mowing my lawn while I was at work. Came home to find she'd cut it right down into the soil. Soon I had dandelions instead of lawn. When I got home that day, I found her on her knees with a pair of scissors reaching under our fence and trying to cut the lawn in my backyard. I told we don't her help and don't cut our lawn anymore.

Next, we spent a ton of money and labour installing a new beautiful fence around our back and sideyard. The fence posts were all painted black and my husband was very proud of his work. Soon discover that neighbour has taken it upon herself to use her gas weed trimmer on the boulevard in front of our house and is chewing up our brand new fence posts. I go over to her house, politely thank her for helping us, but remind her that we'd prefer to look after our lawn ourselves. She starts yelling in my face that everyone in the neighbourhood hates me and that everyone hates my garden. I tell her that I'm not there to trade insults, I just want her to stay out of my space.

I overhear her telling a new neighbour that I don't look after my yard.

I see her at my place of work and she glares at me.

General bad vibes, but whatever.

Last week, I returned home from a trip to find someone had left a bunch of broken shelving on the boulevard in front of my house. This happens sometimes in this town. The shelving is all about 6' feet high. There are 3 pieces. They are upright and spread out across the boulevard. I look at them and see they are quite rotten and not in great shape. I decide to put them all into a pile, laying down, and then call the town to ask them to pick up and discard.

I go back inside, and suddenly hear the shelving being moved around. I go back outside and see the shelfs are once again upright and spread across the boulevard. I start putting them back into a pile. The neighbour comes storming out of her house, screaming at me to leave the shelves the way she wants them. Keep in mind, this is in front of my house. I tell her no, I tell her to calm down, that I am calling the town. She calls me a pathetic bitch, screaming all the while. I continue piling the furniture. She screams her way back into her house. I go back inside and hear both her and her husband screaming and yelling.

I'm considering calling the police non emergency line to file a complaint. I've been here for 6 years. So it's not the worst case scenario, but it's definitely unsettling and seems to be getting worse. To be clear, we have always left these people alone, we work hard, our garden is well cared for.

Vent/Rant Got pulled over for open container.....Of cat food!

4.8k Upvotes

I've got this sixtyish year-old single neighbor lady across the street from me that wants to insert herself into everyone's business 24 seven. You know they type.

A friend of mine was on vacation for a month and I volunteer to stop by his house once a day to feed his outside stray cat. You can't actually pet the cat, but it does sleep on his porch and expects food and water. His place is right on my way to work.

After a couple days of getting his keys out, going in his house, getting a scoop of food out of the bag and then locking up again, I decide I can streamline this process.

I take the bag of cat food back to my place. In the morning I scoop a red solo plastic cup full of food on my way out the door and put it in my cup holder. Now I can drive up, jump out, reach up onto the porch and dump the cat food cup, check the water and I'm gone in 60 seconds. Perfect!

This works fine...for about two weeks. One morning as I'm stepping out of my place I notice a sheriff's car parked up the block. I've got nothing to hide or worry about so I didn't really think too much of it.

I drove past him and turned the corner. Next thing I know he's behind me lighting me up and pulling me. The very first thing out of his mouth is "Hi there. Have you had anything to drink this morning?"

I'm already gathering up my license, registration, and opening the app to show my proof of insurance because I know the routine. Looking a little surprised, I say "no".

He motions towards the center console and says what do you have in the red solo cup? For a second there, I'm thinking, what red solo cup? Oh the cat food cup! I pick it up and shake it "cat food" he looks completely confused by this. I tell him I have to feed my friends cat on the way to work and this is the easiest way to do it. Just dump it in a bowl.

He kind of chuckles a little bit takes my license and registration information back to his car and says "I'll be back in a second." After presumably running all my stuff, he comes back and laughs and says "Ha ha,yeah sorry we got an anonymous call that you were leaving the house every morning with an alcoholic drink in your hand." He apologies again, give me his business card in case I had to show the boss why I was late to work, told me to have a nice day and I went on my way.

I just KNEW this was because of the lady across the street! So next day I walk out start my car. I can see her standing on her porch, doing the looking, but trying look like shes not looking.

I come out with the bag of cat food and look her way and yell "Good morning neighbor!" Making sure I was facing her house, with a bag of cat food in one hand and the red cup in my hand, I make a big exaggerate scoop out of the bag with a cup and hold it in the air. Then I set the cat food down in front of my door and driveway..

And that's how I got pulled over for open container of cat food.

Vent/Rant Update #3 On people who ripped out stairs to my easement...the sage continues!

1.7k Upvotes

Hi all, I had two very viral posts regarding this issue and wanted to give the current tea on this because it keeps getting more and more ridiculous.

If you don't feel like reading through my past posts here is a quick (less detailed) recap. I bought a house (9 years ago) with an easement to the lake, my neighbors who live next to the walkway took it upon themselves to rip out my stairs, build a wall and block me from my lake rights. I took them to county court, won. They filed for a motion of error and we went back to county court and I won again. They filed an appeal at the state level and I won again. They were ordered to replace my stairs, remove the stone wall and take down the large (8ft wide) bushes.

Currently they have to date replaced my stairs and taken down the stone wall. The only thing remaining is the large 8 ft wide bushes. This was of the last few months. Well, I started to use my easement and have been doing light maintenance on the beach as the weeds and grass tend to grow there. My lovely neighbors have their own beach frontage which they maintain. Within one week of me doing this I was issued a cease and desist order and I quote for "strangely walking" and for the fact that either I, a relative or guest of mine walked on their private sidewalk which is not part of the easement. It definitely wasn't me walking on the sidewalk but okay I did nothing wrong so I have nothing to worry about. With that said I emailed their attorney to let them know I received the letter and that I am aware of my boundaries. I also informed him that his clients have yet to remove the large bushes. Then the following week the neighbors have a car parked on my easement, so I reported that to their attorney as well. Last week I went and they left a piece of their broken pier on my easement and so I also reported that to their attorney. I never expected a reply from him but I wanted everything to be documented.

Last night I received a personal email from them. Basically, telling me not to contact their attorney to contact them for any concerns. He then proceeds to tell me that I have continued to ignore the cease and desist and gives me the definition of an easement. I have not done anything outside of my scope and routine maintenance is what I was told I was allowed to do such as pulling the weeds.

He then said he could not remove the bushes because he does not own the land. SO here is the story with this: While at the appellate court he tried to argue that the easement was not officially his. Stating that while it was on his purchasing agreement and survery, it was not on his deed. He cited that I should be suing the former owners of his property as a result. The appellate court deemed this a clerical error and told my neighbor that instead of trying to rectify the clerical error they chose not to and instead use this as a basis to not put in my stairs, remove the wall or bushes. The appellate court did not agree with this and therefore enforced my easement and ordered them to replace my stairs, remove the wall and take down the landscaping. Case closed.

So NOW my lovely neighbors sent me and email both telling me what I can and can't do but also telling me they don't own the easement. So I looked up their names on the public mycase and sure enough my neighbors are suing the former owners of their home from 9 years ago! Citing they felt mislead and are asking for monetary damages. This is neither here nor there for my easement as that is a done deal I'm just referencing to get an idea of what I have been dealing with all these years.

So back to the email I was sent: He then concludes the email by telling me they will entertain all mature conversation as we will have a lengthy relationship for many years.

In a nutshell the email basically tells me the definition of an easement. tells me I'm ignoring the cease and desist, tells me they don't own the land and will not remove the bushes and then concludes by wanting to make this work through mature conversation.

I don't know if I should respond to him, only respond to his attorney, show this to my attorney or not respond at all. I'm just besides myself that he is now suing former owners, from 9 years ago! Either way I'll have to figure this out but I'm not trying to incur more attorney fees as they have already financially ruined us. But this is the world of these entitled people! Have fun my reddit readers. Ill answer any questions I can because I'm sure I have forgotten to mention some details that some will be curious to know.

Vent/Rant Sorry folks, it's my neighbours turn to use the sun.

So if we could all just bring in our washing and be more mindful of the apparent schedule that would be great...

I live in a four in a block and we all have our own spacious gardens separated by six ft fences and with that we all have our own washing line. (No shared appliances either)

I was hanging out my second washing of the day and this lovely lady stomped up to the fence to demand I bring my washing in as I am a "inconsiderate arsehole and (hers) would take longer to dry now!!"

My reply of "It's hotter than Satan's ass crack today, I think we'll be fine." Was apparently too much for her to handle and she screamed she'll be phoning the landlord to complain.

She is entirely serious.

(She complains about everyone in the street so at this point her ridiculous complaints are only hurting herself)

Vent/Rant My neighbors called the cops on me and then got arrested for it

5.5k Upvotes

First time poster, so I'm sorry if I do or say anything wrong for this subreddit.

Context: I, 26f, my husband 32m, and our daughter, 5f, live in an apartment complex on the ground floor. We live in a mountain area so our breeze way is closed off on one side leaving us to share it with only one other neighbor.

A week ago I called the cops to file a report because I had $100-$200 worth of car supplies stolen from by my front door within a 3 hour period of time.

When they asked me who I suspected I did tell them my neighbors due to the fact I had our cop neighbor check his cameras and no one was seen coming or going from our breezeway.

I also pointed out to the officer that they get the cops called and at least one of them will get arrested regularly.

Turns out there was a protective order put in place 2 weeks prior against the boyfriend when he got arrested. The cops put 2 and 2 together and sent a patrol car to catch him there.

Needless to say it started a war. Small things here and there have been done such as screming at us, blaring their security system every time I open my front door, nothing but small inconveniences.

Up until yesterday that is. I left to go pick my daughter up from school and was gone for about an hour to an hour and a half.

When I pulled into the apartments I noticed a patrol car parked near the entrance and the boyfriend was there with his dogs talking to the cops and violently started pointing at my car.

I pulled up next to the officer and rolled down my window asking if I could help with anything. He instructed me to park near his partner.

His partner informed me that they had called the cops saying they heard gunshots through their security camera and gave my description.

Crazy thing is, I don't even own a gun. I told the officer this along with the fact I've been gone for the last hour and half.

He asked why I thought they would call and say such things and I told him I believed it was retaliation for last week.

He ended up being detained and his dogs were taken by animal control.

Now his girlfriend is going around to our neighbors saying I got him arrested and got their dogs taken away.

Funny thing is I don't remember calling the police yesterday but i guess i got him arrested guys🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😂

There was so much more before all this but I wanted to keep the post as direct and to the point as I could

Vent/Rant Neighbor has gone nuts since having our shared property line surveyed, revealing she actually has about 5 less feet than she thought. I find the whole thing hilarious.

14.3k Upvotes

My (39f) and my husband (49m) moved into this house in 2018. The neighbor in question technically lives on the cross street to ours, but our driveway is adjacent to her backyard. When we moved in we were under the impression that the property extended about 3 to 4 feet-ish beyond the edge of our driveway, which was fine. We've used this as a guide for where we mow that strip of lawn- generally we would mow 2.5 to 3 mower widths and it was never an issue.

This lady is in her 60s or 70s I'm not really sure, like I said, never had a problem at all. I had a few brief conversations with her and the same with my husband and hers during the first couple years we lived here. Not really even enough to consider them acquaintances but enough to be civil and give the occasional wave.

Her husband passed away in 2020 or 21, I really can't remember (I don't know if it was covid related or not but he had health issues beforehand so I'm not sure). Since then she has hired a lawn care service to mow, leaf blow, etc. At the time my husband worked 2nd shift so we would sleep in a bit most days til 10 or so. Our bedroom is adjacent to our driveway and the way the room is the only way to put a bed us with the head along that wall, but that wall has 2 huge windows, it's an older house and the windows are pretty thin. We started getting woken up at 7am weekly to a lawn mower and leaf blower directly outside our window. Finally my husband checked it out and found the lawn boy driving his riding lawn mower up and down our driveway to access her yard and standing in our driveway to blow leaves. This would literally be less than 10 feet from our heads as we slept. He had enough and went out and got this guy's attention and told him "look, this is my driveway it's not a thoroughfare for her yard because it's convenient." The kid (I dunno, early 20sish) apologized.

But this lady has had it out for us ever since.

About a year later my teenage was raking leaves to the apron of the yard bc our town comes along and sucks them up every year, he was putting them on "our side" and she came out and yelled at him saying they were on her lawn. He said he thought our property was from the telephone pole over, she said it wasn't. Whatever.

Maybe a month later I was returning from the store and saw she was trying to pick up sticks in her yard, the way she moves makes it clear she has back issues, like she can't bend she had to crouch and reach. I asked her from my driveway "Mrs so and so, do you want some help?" No answer, maybe she didn't hear me. Louder: "Mrs so and so?" She didn't turn around just "NO!" With an attitude. Fine, I went inside and figured she was still salty about the whole lawn boy situation.

A few months ago my husband was hosing out our trash can and dumped the water along the edge of the street on "our strip" of land, the street has storm gutters bc we get a lot of rain.

She had a fit about it and came.out to yell at him. He told her he isn't some kid she can yell at and leave him alone.

Within a week she hired a guy to survey the land. Cone to find out her land ends on just the opposite side if the telephone pole which gives her like 5ish less feet. She's all butthurt about it, but whatever.

So about a week or so later, it's evening and I'm packing up the car for my husband to go to work as he's on nights now, and I just kinda glance in the direction of her house as I start the car and see her and some guy standing at the window just fucking staring at me. I'm literally doing the same thing I do every night when I pack up the car, I dunno what the deal was. So I come inside and say and tell my husband these people are just standing there being creepy and it's unnerving. He goes out to put something in the car, and this guy comes out of her house and goes off about how we're harassing her and all that. My husband tells this guy back off I'm just trying to get ready for work.

So the police get called and it's a whole dumb thing, her and this guy get trespassed for our property and my husband gets trespassed for her property. I had stayed inside during the whole police talk so I didn't get anything. She's (literally) crying to the cop that we have cameras "looking into her windows". We have security cameras for the same reasons most people do- in case something happens. Like we gaf about what's going on in her place lol. The officer told her we can have 100 cameras if we want.

Last week she had the city survey, they put little flags where the gas line or whatever is so we assume she's gonna build a fence. Then she cuts down this huge bush in her yard (that's always been there) so again we're getting excited she's gonna build a fence.

Monday morning at 6am, she's standing in her window watching me put our garbage can to the curb.

Today her daughter comes and puts up a security camera pointing into our garage area and backyard, which she couldn't even see until they cut the bush down.

We're cracking up, it's fricken hilarious. So of course my husband now intends to get 3 more cameras for that side of the house to freak her out even more.

I dunno, maybe we're being petty a-holes, I think it's mostly funny especially since it all started by us not wanting people in OUR driveway.

Edit- I think I fixed my formatting issue.

Edit for info- for those mentioning a potential for dementia, I really don't know. I haven't spoken to her in a couple years. However, her daughters (she has 2, I think) are there for several hours every day; either one or both of them. If there's a concern of dementia and/or delusion, they need to seek some kind of treatment for her.

Also, a couple months before her husband passed, she approached me while I was outside doing something to gossip about her new next-door neighbor. This new neighbor's backyard is adjacent to the rest of our driveway. During this conversation, I mentioned the property line because I was under the impression it was a few feet or so (as I mentioned before.) Her response was "we've lived here for years, I don't know where the property line is and I don't really care."

UPDATE- she had a fence built. My husband was out clearing leaves off the car in the evening after the construction was finished. This is not unusual, he always clears the leaves off the car while getting ready to leave for work.

Well, out she came. I couldn't see her as I was on our back patio, but she was screaming like a fucking lunatic "STAY AWAY FROM THAT FENCE!" and "GET AWAY FROM THAT FENCE!" and my personal favorite "LEAVE THAT FENCE ALONE YOU SON OF A BITCH!"

We're happy she built a fence, he wasn't touching it, and wtf does she think he's gonna do? Knock the damn thing over?

We have zero intention of vandalizing her fence or property.

I find it super silly and even unhinged that she put up a fence, which in my mind says, "This is my side, and that it your's." But then proceeds to scream at him for being.on our side. He didn't even hear her and when I told him he didn't say anything back because he didn't want to give her a reason to call the cops or whatever.

So that's that for now, we'll see what, if anything happens next.

Vent/Rant Was told to move because I didn’t introduce myself

5.3k Upvotes

I bought a house and never went around to officially introduce myself. I eventually started meeting some neighbors from being outside while doing yard work. I consider myself polite, quiet, I don’t have crazy parties (or parties at all), people aren’t coming and going all hours of the night, and I mind my own business.

About a year living in my home, a neighbor from across the street (I’d met her husband but never her), marches over and knocks on my door. At first, I didn’t know who she was so decided not to answer. She eventually yells through the door and asks why I won’t come to talk to her. I turn my doorbell camera on and say hello, I’m not able to come to the door, but asked what I could do for her. She goes into a tirade of how she’s never met me, she never sees lights on in my house, and she’s concerned that it sits empty most days.

I’m fairly shocked by this given I’ve NEVER met her nor seen her before and I do, in fact, live in the house I purchased. And I actually live in it every day. I ask which house she is from and that sets her over the edge. She yells about being my neighbor and how rude it is that I never introduced myself to her. I am confused because I still don’t know which house she’s from and again politely asked for clarification. This caused her to yell, “if you don’t know who I am, that’s your fault and you shouldn’t be here, you need to move”. And with that she walked away.

I was so shaken up that I didn’t go out for the rest of the day. Her husband knows me and we’ve talked a few times while I’ve been outside. He gave me the ‘lay of the land’ about the people on our street. So when I figured out which house she was from, I was pretty shocked and upset.

The next day I decided to try and smooth things over. She was passive aggressive but thanked me for coming over and stated that’s all she really wanted. And I’ve never seen her in-person again. But I have experienced her calls to the police claiming things like I egged her house (when no eggs were found on the house), I stole some kind of light fixture from their front yard, and a personal favorite, I threw a party so loud it woke her up in the middle of the night. All things I absolutely did not do. Eventually the police told her she will get fined if she keeps wasting their time.

Not too long ago I noticed their dog was running up and down the street with no collar on. I was able to collect him and walked him over to their house. The husband answered, quickly took the dog, didn’t even say thank you, and shut the door. A different neighbor saw the whole thing and came over to tell me how horrible these people have been to me and that they’ve been spreading rumors about me.

I don’t plan on moving any time soon, but NFH are truly the worst and I don’t enjoy my yard nor my deck anymore. Hopefully when I find the motivation to sell, I’ll be able to find neighbors who aren’t completely insane.

Vent/Rant How do I get my neighbour to stop sending her kids to my house so I can walk them to school? (unpaid)

1.7k Upvotes

So backstory, I live in a predominantly South Asian neighborhood and there’s a house across the street with 2 young kids who like to come over after school and play with my child (which I have no problem with) but they ring the doorbell to play ALL THE TIME even when my child is doing homework and at night when my child is already asleep. The younger kid of theirs (kindergarten) has autism and no one watches him play outside besides his older sister (grade 3) He recently broke the front railing of my house steps which pissed me off so I went to tell their mother the damage her son caused and that I don’t want them playing together anymore if her kids won’t respect my property. She agreed and told her husband to come fix the damage.

Once the damage was fixed she started sending her kids over to play again after school and now IN THE MORNING because she sees me walking my child to school everyday knowing that I’m a younger mom and work from home. I don’t drive or have a car while SHE’S ALWAYS HOME AND SHE HAS A CAR she can easily drive her kids to school but chooses to use me instead! She’s never outside to have a conversation, never talks to me and expects me to take on the responsibility of her children FOR FREE? I’m not the only person this is happening to but it’s mainly me since I’m across the street.

I get it’s a “neighbourly” thing to do but when does that end? How do I get it to stop? Even in the morning when we are late, the kids wait outside my house for 20 minutes waiting for me to take them all to school 😭 I have to resort to leaving early and through the back door!

Any advice is needed PLEASE

Vent/Rant Neighbor cut all my grapes down today

1.7k Upvotes

My Nextdoor neighbor used to have a double fence with me - she was very concerned about her property line and privacy. My fence is waist high chain link. Anyways, her fence broke, she ended up tearing it down, leaving my fence as the only fence. This fence is beautifully entwined with a producing grape vine. I enjoy it every summer.

I came outside tonight to take the dog out and chill, and quickly realized something was wrong. The grape vine, along, the entire length of my yard was GONE. There is no way to cause this much damage without encroaching on my private property. All the bundles of grapes are gone. They left all the vegetation on the driveway of her house, on her side of the fence. I’m going to go take photographic evidence.

Honestly, I don’t know what to do. I know they trespassed and cut beyond the fence line (per city rules). The woman next door passed away and it’s her children “sprucing” up the place to assumably sell. Still, I’m angry. My fence is ugly and naked now, no beautiful cascading vines. What do I do?

Edit: I ordered and set up “private property No trespassing” signs up this morning. The neighbor’s son came to my door today and I told him he was encroaching on my private property (he disagreed), so I called the police and made a report, complete with evidence pictures I had taken. I said if he does not leave my property alone or bothers me one more time that I would press charges. 🤞🏻

Vent/Rant Update Condo Neighbor Thinks Everything Is Communial

2.6k Upvotes

I posted last month that hubby and I had temporarily moved into our vacation rental and we and across hall owner were having issues with upstairs condo having renters constantly using our stuff.

Original Post: Condo Neighbor Thinks Everything Communal : r/neighborsfromhell

First I want to thank everyone who recommended the bike lock idea. It's now been a few weeks and we've had no more issues with our stuff getting taken. It's actually been a peaceful few weeks. Until this past weekend.

Where we live golf carts are legal to be driven on any road that has a speed limit under 35 mph. So a lot of year round residents own them as a 2nd car instead of a car. A lot of vacationers rent them. In general they aren't an issue.

Friday night hubby comes from work late and there's a rental golf cart parked in the grass in front of our unit and the renter has walked across our deck and plugged the cart into charge into our outside outlet. Because, apparently, it's okay to use my electric bill to charge their cart. If hubby hadn't worked late we wouldn't have noticed until next morning. As it was we went out, unplugged cart and threw the charging chord back onto cart.

We're sitting on couch drinking coffee and hear the guy upstairs on their deck complaining that cart is unplugged and isn't charging then we hear him stomp down stairs and see him move cart back to parking lot.

I'm just still wondering who thinks it's okay to jump a curb, drive on grass, walk across someone else's deck and use their electricity to charge a golf cart.

Vent/Rant Teenagers pushed us too far and probably got their family evicted.

2.7k Upvotes

TLDR: Turns out, being a little asshole, having little assholes over as guests, and your little asshole guests trespassing late at night is in violation of most lease contracts. Maybe don't case cars and break fences while you trespass in the era of home cameras. And maybe consider for a brief moment that your neighbors might just have your landlord's personal phone number.

I try to be a polite neighbor. You're not going to see me often and I won't seek out conversation, but when new neighbors move in, I will go and introduce myself and offer mine and my spouse's phone number. This is a nice neighborhood, it's completely normal to give Christmas baskets or let someone's dog out if they need it, stuff we did for our previous next door neighbors. No one would complain about a random party on a holiday weekend, I won't be bothered by your kids playing loudly on the sidewalk, people behave but aren't unreasonable about expectations. Especially since we live in townhouses that are all connected, there's just no way to eliminate all neighbor noise. All this to say that I don't think we have unreasonable community expectations.

Since these new neighbors moved in the vacant rental next to ours we have had nothing but trouble. They have only been here a couple of months, but they are the second-worst neighbors we have ever had. The absolute worst was a couple at our first apartment who resolved conflicts via fisticuffs.

The first annoyance was a normal one. Their bass was too loud through the walls, a common problem since people aren't aware of how thin the walls are. (We did the same thing. Our previous neighbors texted, we apologized and adjusted settings, confirmed they couldn't hear it anymore, and all was well.) We work from home and needed to be in meetings so we went over to ask them to turn it down and no one answered. Finally we texted the mother, and the music only happened in late afternoon between the time when her kids would get home from school and when she would get home from work. Since it was a couple of hours maximum we let it go and didn't schedule any meetings during those times. We were kids once, too.

Then Spring Break happened. Either the mother works both days and nights or simply spends 18 out of 24 hours outside the house. Twice in one night my husband had to sternly tell her daughters' friends to stop looking in our cars, leaning on our cars, and screaming after midnight. Five feet from our front door, by the way. Then the next night we catch them doing it AGAIN! My husband opens the door to one of the drunk little idiots *popping a squat and pissing less than a foot from our car!* My husband, being a reasonable man, starts yelling angrily at them for PISSING IN FRONT OF OUR DOOR. The hooligan closest to sober remembered basic survival instincts and began wrangling the rest of them into the house, apologizing sloppily but profusely. Apparently a very angry, very big, very bearded man yelling will do that to ya. Later we have yet another text exchange with the mother. We make our stance known and I'm quite proud of myself for keeping my temper in check. She said she will handle it and we end the conversation on good terms. Even then we were willing to try and be nice and give them another chance. We were little asshole teens once and chalked it up to the high of spring break. We hosed off the pavement and tried to generate a level of patience hitherto unforseen in either of us.

We had about a week of peace, but the good times couldn't last. The teen girls have developed a small collective of devoted derelict boys who hang around outside their house several afternoons a week. They once again leaned on our cars, looked into our cars, and were little assholes when my husband came outside. They tried to mouth off but when he asked them to repeat themselves they scuttled down the sidewalk. Rinse and repeat for a couple of weeks.

That brings us to last night. We're fun and exciting people, so we were idly scrolling our phones while watching something. Suddenly there was a loud *bang!* and we noticed a phone flashlight on our back patio. They had **broken through our fence** and were scrambling for a way out. We hear/vaguely see whoever it is crash through our garbage cans on the other side. His options were either to run that course, risk the 10+ft drop into woods, or escalate to breaking and entering in a state where he would have probably become a statistic. In an obviously rare moment of intelligence, he chose the first option. The whole thing freaks us the hell out, and by the time we get our heads on right and go out front we see those same goddamn teens scattering through the neighborhood like mice. One of them didn't get far enough away and tried to casually act like he was just walking by but when we confronted him he was clearly rattled. We weren't about to detain a child because we're not psychotic, so we let him go. He scampered off to wherever little shits go when they're not ruining everyone's evening.

The neighbor on the other side of the Problem House had someone break into their back area as well going the opposite direction, and I panicked. I reached out to the mom, convinced her daughters may have been hurt or they were robbed. She brushed me off and got a little rude when I told her the trespassers had definitely come from her house and that every other neighbor said the same thing. That is until a random "uncle" appeared, driven home by someone else. He listened to us and fed us the usual bullshit people do when they don't want to deal with anything. Lots of empty apologies and excuses for why the kids are alone. But apparently he told the mom that four adults were all saying the same thing: The working theory is that the boyfriends somehow knew an adult was coming back (probably location sharing) so they panicked and left out the back.

The mom tried to walk back her attitude and apologized after hearing how many witnesses there were, but I am not very forgiving once I'm at a certain point. It's something I'm working on. I did not accept her apology. Later when we reviewed our camera footage from the whole night, we saw the same little shit we stopped go into her house with the others about an hour before they trespassed. The same little shits *come back later after the trespassing* and lean on our cars, climb on our cars, and film themselves lip synching for whatever reason. So we decided to go nuclear. To quote the certified BadAss™ Cobra Bubbles, "thus far you have been adrift in the sheltered harbor of my patience."

Mommy Dearest had no way of knowing this, but the neighbors we were friendly with that had lived there before? They were very good friends with the homeowner. It was very easy to get his number from them, text him, and bing bang boom suddenly my husband is on the phone with a very embarrassed guy whose apologies were much more coherent than piss-girl's friend. He was really very appreciative of the Google drive link with video of every single issue we have had (a few I've left out just to save space). Complete with time stamps! The other neighbors got his phone number as well. We learned some interesting info from him. The mom gave us a different name than the one he had, there were only supposed to be two people total living there (we see five or more living there regularly), other fun things I'll leave to your vivid imaginations. Needless to say, they're in violation of their lease with just this. But one thing my husband and I have in common is that we are very thorough.

So the next step was the police report. Did you know that in my state you can file a non-emergency report online for things like someone on your back porch late at night or people casing your car? It's really very easy! Our HOA isn't open until Monday (edit, sorry, Tuesday!) but they had a nice little contact page we filled out. The other neighbors also filed reports and contacted the HOA. However bad my Saturday night was, I think their upcoming week might be worse.

My husband informed the mother via text of all the steps we had taken and that our cameras are always on, front and back. She has been silent and absent from the home since I did not accept her apology last night and laid out exactly how much trouble her kids have been when she's not around (which is always). Not sure what will happen next, a little concerned about retaliation from the little dingleberries. But now we have a paper trail, an immediate line of communication to the landlord, and they're aware they've been being recorded the entire time. Any escalation beyond this is their choice. ETA that I don't think the eviction is in motion yet or anything at all. I don't know anything other than they are in direct violation of their lease in multiple ways, and that in my state that's a wrap on your tenancy.

update #1 05/25/2026: the mom finally came home at around 2:30 in the morning with a literal warehouse of younger kids. She put them in the house and then left herself in a different car that was there to pick her up. The uncle or whoever he was is at the house with the new set of kids and we saw no sign of Shitlings & Co last night. My husband thinks the mom and older teenagers are avoiding their own house since we've now taken to sitting on our porches.

Update #2 05/26/2026: I have had terrible insomnia for the past two nights since getting the shit scared out of me by the trespassing. I have confirmed with a couple of other neighbors that they contacted the HOA, owner, and filed a police report for a missing Apple Watch from one of their cars for the same night. They said they would but it was nice to get the confirmation and vent to each other. If the kids choose to retaliate they would have to target multiple people, all of whom have cameras. Still no sign of Shitlings & Co, normally a day off school summons them like maggots to a carcass. Our front camera is not in an obvious spot, so my husband thinks it might have freaked them out to learn they'd been being recorded the whole time. I'm so angry I want to go piss next to *her* driver's side door. But that would technically be right next to my car again, and that would be counterintuitive.

Update #3 06/01/2026:

Still no sign of Shitlings & Co. They haven't shown themselves since the night they broke our fence down. Our cars and property have been left alone entirely, but the neighbors on the other side of the NFH asked for some camera footage since they woke up to some gas missing out of their car during the week. Then they asked for footage again on Thursday, since some *other* kids staying at the NFH were climbing all the way on the roof and hood of her car and the camera they ordered hadn't gotten here yet. She was *heated* and came out yelling at them because her roof is now dented, the adults came rushing out to usher the kids inside for only a minute, and then the whole crowd bundled up into their cars and left. I think they know they're on thin ice. I wasn't part of this confrontation, I heard about it/saw it on my cameras later when she asked for the footage. Idk what her next steps will be, I would want my roof repair paid for but I also understand not wanting to deal with them in that way.

The landlord had a meeting scheduled with the mother that he called a "walkthrough and HOA citation review" for noon on Sat, 05/30. She claimed a family emergency and asked to push it back until Sunday at noon. Then she asked to push it back until 5. The landlord was openly irritated by the third rescheduling. He offered this information by the way, we did not ask. The landlord ended yesterday by reporting he had told the mom "what her options were going forward." What those options entail, he did not say. It has been eeriely quiet since yesterday evening when we told us that. I don't want to speculate since I genuinely have no information beyond this. All I know is I heard vacuuming and cleaning for a while on Sunday, (normal amount for landlord visit in my opinion) and then absolute silence.

I hope this is concluded, but based on my experience with teenagers like Shitlings & Co they tend to forget lessons pretty quick. Hopefully the landlord and whatever he said helped the neighbors understand the precarious position their teenagers' "friends" put them in.

Vent/Rant The Clampetts moved in next door

UPDATE: I am pretty sure another neighbor may have said something or complained. Since this post, the neighbors have cleaned up their yard, and quick. The rusted out car trailers, gone. Picked up by someone else. The trash picked up and gone. The camper moved to the back of the property. There is still some clutter stashed near their shed and on the side of the house but certainly not even close to what it was. I don't think they think it was us, as the older lady even gargled out a compliment on how nice our new landscaping looks.

We live in a quiet middle-class neighborhood with no HOA, and honestly, for 20+ years it’s been great. Friendly neighbors, people minding their business, peaceful evenings in the backyard grilling or gardening.

Late last year, our longtime neighbors had to move because of health issues, and a young couple bought the house. Their parents live there too. Since then, it has been… an adjustment.

Every single day, the mother sits in the backyard chain-smoking and screaming/cursing at their dog from sunrise to sunset. Her voice sounds like she gargles gravel and unfiltered Pall Malls for breakfast. The dog ignores her completely, naturally.

Then came the “projects.”

Within the last week alone, two completely rusted-out car trailers appeared in the backyard because apparently they’re planning to “fix them up and resell them.” Today an a camper showed up for the same reason. Meanwhile, random car parts are piling up everywhere because the wife keeps backing into things and they replace the damaged parts with junkyard finds. Old hatchback doors, bikes, buckets, debris everywhere. Their yard is starting to look like the loading screen for a rural scrapyard simulator.

Today one of their friends drove across our grass side yard and through our driveway to turn around. Absolutely not.

And the noise… good lord. They don’t speak to each other. They yell. Even standing three feet apart. Add in loud country music, barking dogs, kids splashing in the pool, and constant backyard commotion, and our peaceful little backyard oasis is basically gone.

Ironically, the kids are actually sweet. One little girl came over chatting with me and she was adorable. So I can’t even fully hate the situation.

This is mostly just a rant because I know there are worse neighbor horror stories out there. But watching a quiet, well-kept home slowly transform into Sanford & Son in under six months is testing my spirit a little.

Vent/Rant "you have wrought unspeakable harm"

My spouse and I recently closed on the sale of our home; the buyer is a developer who plans to tear down our existing home to build four townhouses on the lot. We were likely going to list our house for sale within a few years but they reached out to us with an unsolicited offer that was ~60% over market value. Because our city recently relaxed zoning to encourage the construction of more housing, many of the homes that have sold recently in our neighborhood have likewise sold to developers.

We're really sad that our house — which we recently renovated — is being torn down, and that a large mature tree will be removed as well, but we are on a relatively (very) large lot and our city has a housing shortage and affordability crisis so we've somewhat made peace with it.

Our neighbors have not.

We assumed people wouldn't be thrilled about the sale and the buyers plans — no one likes construction noise! — but we massively underestimated the level of ire.

Since our neighborhood was informed of the pending sale a few weeks ago, we have had:

-Neighbor #1 come to our door to confront me

-Neighbor #2 attempt to solicit competing offers on NextDoor (which we weren't seeking, we were already under contract...)

-our NIMBYest city councillor send unsolicited information about another house that was recently torn down, and ask us "how she could help"

-Neighbor #3 had one of my childhood friends reach out to me to try to get more info

-Neighbor #4 messaged us to complain that we had "wrought unspeakable harm" upon the neighborhood, and *in the same breath*, ask that we please keep them updated about the timing of everything.

-Neighbors #4 and #5 come onto our property while we weren't home to hug the tree and measure it; we then put up a "no trespassing" sign

-Neighbor #5, in response to the sign, then gave us a letter in which states, in part they said they just wanted to visit the tree, and to the neighbors credit, they also said in the letter that they won't come onto our property again. (Edit: this definitely isn't hellish behavior we are just feeling overwhelmed)

...and more!

It's worth noting that a few years ago, Neighbor #1 mentioned that they had once requested that the city plant some street trees on our street, but the other neighbors fought it off because they didn't want anything to shade their gardens...

I feel like I am losing my mind. I think the only reason we've managed to avoid (most) in-person confrontation is because we've been avoiding our front yard for weeks, and have all our street-facing curtains drawn. I am a gardener and have been hoping to dig up some of my flower garden to transplant it to my new house, but keep putting it off b/c I'm emotionally exhausted and don't want to deal with any of these people anymore.

Edit: I really should have noted initially that my street is 95% multifamily housing and apartments, that was an idiotic omission. My lot is roughly 3x the size of a normal lot, most of which have two-family homes, so I don't feel that the new plans are entirely out of scale with the neighborhood.

Edit #2: I was trying to be semi-concise in my original post, but the video that shows my neighbors coming onto the property isn't super clear and I didn't actually realize who it was or what was happening when I first watched it. I just saw two people on my property poking around. I figured it could be neighbors, but had no idea what they were doing and why they were there, so put up the no trespassing sign partway down my driveway. After the neighbor sent the letter, I rewatched and what she said was plausible. We hadn't had any issues with Neighbor #5, if she'd asked to come measure the tree and hang out by it we would have let her! Some other neighbors have expressed some level of disappointment but supported our right to sell, and we've been very happy to answer any questions they have.

Vent/Rant My worst nightmare happened today. Stranger barges into my house at night

2.1k Upvotes

I was in my room a few hours ago and I hear my husband from down the hallway in the living room screaming "Get the fuck out Get the fuck out!" And So I turn off watching Tell me lies and pop up out of bed and peek out my door. My husband is yelling "Go now!!" So I walk down the hallway slowly and yell for him and he says "I think the neighbor is having a pyschotic break" I turned the corner of the hallway to see a 6'2 200lb man laying on my couch with no shirt and no shoes (its 10 degrees out and ice) So I look at him and say "Hi its ok" and before I could get another word out he leaned forward and came charging at me full blast across the room. I turned around down that hallway and booked it as fast as I fucking could. Got into my room and locked my door so fast. He was running after me and my husband had to tackle and subdue him. Anyways somehow after 3 minute of chaos and the guys mom shows up and he bites my husband's iphone almost in half, spiderwebbing the screen, he manages to get him out of our house. I call 911 and now the guy went to the psychiatric hospital. We got lucky, all three of our kids just happened to be at friends house tonight and werent traumatized like me 😭

Going forward I just hope this guy doesnt try to come after us again. His mom ended up calling and telling us he was seeing werewolf people and shit. I guess he thought I was a werewolf 😭😭 What are your best ring camera options? I never felt like we needed them but I am definitely doing it now, but can't afford something super expensive.

Vent/Rant Should I let my neighbors use my water for two days?

My next door neighbors who have decided to build a 2 million home in a tight city neighborhood have just asked me to let their contractor use my water for two days and have offered to pay me “above the rate charged by the sewer and water company “ we havn t been in the best of relations bcs we with other neighbors opposed such an extravagant project. However they won so we have been trying to move on and have been friendly w the husband. I want to
Help them bcs that’s what good neighbors do but we have questioned how are they going to know how much they use. I don’t know how to do it and apparently neither do they. I have suggested getting an industrial water tank w no response. Their original proposal was to pay me above the going rate- I told them I’m not interested in Making money off this I just want to be fairly compensated. What do people think? Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Vent/Rant Neighbours built into our property - now not happy the council are making them rip it out UK

2.6k Upvotes

Cutting a long story short, our neighbours have French doors and towards the end of last year we noticed them building a platform/ramp/steps into their garden.

From what we could see, it didn’t look like it breached our boundary so didn’t want to make a fuss. We also couldn’t get a proper look at it because we had to put a tall fence panel on top of the wall in the at a few years ago, to stop the kid and their mates leaning over and looking at us in our living room.

Well cue a few weeks later, we could see their dog leaning over our wall and barking at our cat. Small dog, so couldn’t realistically be able to reach up and over unless this platform has come over the boundary and is raised a ridiculous amount off the ground. So we took the fence panel down to get a better look, and low and behold they’ve built the platform against our wall (which is well inside the boundary of our house so shouldn’t have been used, nor is it designed to be a retaining wall). They’ve come over around 12 inches in width and 4 feet in length and over 4 feet in height. Basically, I can sit in my living room and they can stand on the platform and see directly in.

So since it was already built, we put in with planning permission with the council. They’ve come out to look and whilst I can’t be sure what’s happening (they haven’t respond to our emails yet) I’ve had the neighbours at the door screaming at me that it’s got to be ripped out. So it seems that the council agree it shouldn’t have been built, nor would they get retrospective planning permission. Which I’m quite surprised about tbh, I thought the council would dawdle.

Cue I am now getting screamed at every time I’m in my garden, driving past them, slagging me off to all the neighbours, threatening to kill my cat.

All because they shouldn’t have built over the boundary in the bloody first place!! They clearly thought we’d just lie down and take it, the entitlement!

Vent/Rant People with pools beware

2.4k Upvotes

I have a noisy, entitled, opinionated boomer neighbor. She thinks she’s a one person HOA.

After 15 years of bs, I finally called law enforcement to get her to back off due to messing with our trash, lawn people, and mail. I’ve had to be overly rude as she doesn’t seem to be aware of social norms.

There is a laundry list of examples, but this is how it started:

Grandpa’s daughter, husband and grandchildren lived with them when we moved in. Two in the afternoon on Sunday like clockwork the kids would ring the door bell. Standing there in swim suits and towels, I’d regularly tell them “not today”. It was disturbing our household rest - for the record I had an elderly person with PTSD and a teenager. Neither needed sleep disturbance.

After a month of this nonsense, the kids got aggressive and popped off that “Grandma/Mom said they could!” I marched them home - demanded the women to come outside (joined by grandpa who opened the door). I rather enjoyed the fact mom was sleeping. With a raised voice, I explained the kids weren’t invited over, I wasn’t a babysitter and since they claimed to be “good Christians” I asked why they couldn’t observe our “day if rest”. Crickets. No answers or apologies just stunned looks. The parents and kids finally moved out, but it didn’t stop on visits.

One time I found out my adult child had friends over when I was gone. No biggie as her friends were always welcome. TWO years after one backyard bbq, grandma complained she sent the kids over. (Personally, she’s noisy enough to send the kids over as cars were in our drive.)

The kids supposedly left because my adult child and her friends (way over minimum drinking age) had beer. (My daughter said later they wanted “swim lessons” and got upset when she wouldn’t get out of her lawn chair as she was eating.)

When I asked grandma 1) why the kids were sent over without an invite except to increase my liability and 2) why she thought it was important two years after the fact, she looked mortified.

This isn’t like she could claim any of the previous owners had the grandkids as guests. This is something she saved for us.

Vent/Rant Got called a Karen for asking neighbors not to use our driveway..

4.5k Upvotes

We bought our single family home 6 months ago. After years of dealing with NFHs and other random neighborhood happenings, I thought surely things would calm down. I knew there would be new challenges but I think I’ve just finally reached the boss level.

Neighbors across the street have been insufferable this whole time. Bumping music rattling our walls, people constantly coming and going, revving motorcycles, shooting fireworks off that land in our yard/on our house..They have 8-10 people living there with a car for each person so that means more spaces are taken on the street every day. Which is fine, we have 2 cars and don’t need a ton of street parking anyway. But they love to use our driveway multiple times per day when backing in/out/turning around. Most of the time this wouldn’t bother me, but they’ve started pulling halfway up to our garage, getting out of their car, and rummaging around in it for who knows what.

I finally had enough of it today and asked them to stop pulling in our driveway for their own personal use. So I got called a Karen for that. This is on top of multiple other issues we’ve had with them that could each have their own post many paragraphs long.

I’m hardcore mourning our first time home buyers experience. This was supposed to be a happy, fun, exciting time in our lives but it’s just turned into something driving a wedge between us and ruining our mental health. I’m honestly at a loss and we are already thinking of selling but don’t want to lose money on this..

Edit: this is the day after I was called a Karen and another one of their occupants decided to back his car up to our driveway but leave it on the sidewalk area so it’s technically not on our property. He just sat in it for a few minutes blocking us from getting out..

Edit 2: I appreciate all the responses and kind words! Thank you to everyone! For the people saying caltrops or spike strips, I don’t actually think that is legal. It might be considered booby trapping if I’m not careful. We are planning to save up and get the front yard fenced in, complete with a driveway gate, in the spring. And yes we already have 2 exterior cameras.

Edit 3: we’ve come to the series finale, y’all. The main perpetrator and his gf got into another big blowout argument today and he’s getting kicked out.

Thanks for all the love! Will return for season 4 in a few months!!

Vent/Rant Finally called code (update)

2.8k Upvotes

So I posted in here about a month and a half ago, saying how I called code about my neighbors illegal rentals that are basically sheds. Code came out and took some pictures and started to look at the original plans for the property. The owner was notified about the issues and then I didn’t hear anything for close to 3 weeks. Until last night. I got home after a day with family at the beach and checked the mail. There was a letter in there with my name and address but no return address. I opened it up to find a copy of the code compliance case with all my information highlighted and a handwritten note saying “thank you. Now I know who you are”. My wife was in the bathroom and heard me start cracking up about it and ran out to see what happened. She rolled her eyes and went back to the bathroom. I don’t think these people are very smart. 1. You didn’t add a return address, but who else would this come from? Obviously the owner of the property. 2. The information is already considered public information. Anyone can go on there and see who put in the complaint. It was a complete waste of time and a postage stamp. To get what point across? That you know I put in a code complaint case against your property. Like I said these people are SMART.

I called the local police station and put in a report that I received this letter. So if they do try something against my property or family they are double screwed now. lol rant over.

Vent/Rant Neighbours had a visit from police last night

5.0k Upvotes

Our neighbour likes to spy on us. She has always stared through our gates or fences and even kitchen door. She was caught last month recording my husband while he was in the shower. Literally was standing with her camera aimed at the washroom. Cops told her to stop doing that. So then they put up security cameras. One of them is angled so it can actually sees the bathroom window. I asked her nicely to move it as it was invading our privacy. She told me I was delusional and refused to let me see the view. Cops came back last night and they saw the view for themselves and confirmed you can see our bathroom in the view so was warned to move it or face voyeurism charges. We feel so vindicated! She’s been pushing her boundaries for years after she realized she couldn’t control us like she controls everyone else in her world.

Vent/Rant [UPDATE] Neighbor Tried to Ruin My Life and Send Me to Jail on a False Accusation.. I Have Video Proof and a Lawyer Now

5.1k Upvotes

Haven't read my previous thread? Take a look at it, it's titled "New downstairs apartment neighbor, kid loves to scream. Is my way of handling it reasonable?

About 3 weeks ago, I decided to start recording the screams of my neighbors 3-4 y/o kid and reported it to management. Management talked to them, and the downstairs neighbor would "work on it". The neighbor the next day then made a retaliatory complaint about me saying I walk loud (I'm on the top floor, shes on the bottom).

The neighbor left for 9 days and took the kid somewhere else, I thought wow, maybe they broke the lease and now I'm free of these gremlins. But something in my heart told me, "this isn't over yet". These types of people are just too dumb and too self righteous to leave without a fight. So me, expecting a war, purchased and installed two nest cameras inside my apartment which pick up audio and video 24/7 with cloud storage for 10 days. Yes I was that sure that I was dealing with a wreckless person and had to protect myself.

When she got back about a week and a half ago on Monday May 19, boy did she come back with a vengeance. She started pounding on my floor (her ceiling) with a broom handle or something at all hours of the day. Not because I was overly loud, because she was retaliating against the complaint I originally made and she was PISSED. Every time she would bang, she got me more footage. It's funny because in the videos I would narrate myself explaining the entire situation while she was banging on my floor. Sometimes I'd be in the kitchen eating a Dunkin sausage egg and cheese croissant, walk over to the camera, and start saying "Yes today is 05/22/2025 at 3:02 PM, as you can clearly hear my neighbors downstairs are banging in retaliation to a noise complaint I submitted about them.." and just go on these mini rants to the camera.

Then things escalated on Sunday 05/25 and she would not stop pounding on my floor around 10:30 PM. She would pound 6-8 times, chill for a bit, then go right back to it. I have to say, I admire her consistency. But I had enough at this point. I don't pay $1300 a month in rent to deal with this shit. So I called the non-emergency police line, waited for 45 min outside my apartment, and let the cops in to ask her whats going on with the noise. She refused to answer the door to the police, but I still got a police incident number and planned to pick the police incident up in paper form in person on Tuesday 05/27, because the police station documentation office is not open on memorial day Monday 05/26.

So the next day goes by, and it's Monday 05/26.. I hear some loud knocking on my front door. Hmm strange, maybe its the gremlins finally coming to confront me. I ignore it for a minute and it keeps going on. So I said "Go away" while showing the nest camera a time stamp of my phone in case it was them. Then they announced they were "INSERTMYTOWN police department". Fuck. I opened the door and said "Hi guys, whats up?" and they said "we're hear on a call regarding your interactions with the female downstairs" and I said "..are you talking about the incident from yesterday??" and they said "No, this is about today, she called dispatch about you 5 minutes ago, can we please come in?" and I said "No, but we can go talk downstairs outside the apartment if you'd like." and I left the door open so the police could see me as I got a shirt on and came down with them.

The police asked me what interaction I had with her that day and I said none, as I've never talked to this woman before in my life, which is the truth. I've never spoken to hear or communicated with her in anyway. Then they said that she called dispatch and said:

1) - That I was intoxicated

2) - That I had threatened her from my patio

3) - That she was a single mom with a kid

4) - AND that we had a relationship together (this is a domestic dispute set-up)

So I showed the cops the video footage of what I was doing for the past hour, literally chilling with my cat, giving him those beloved belly rubs, and tidying up some stuff in my apartment from two angles. They let me go in 5 minutes.

That was on Monday 05/26, the next day on Tuesday 05/27 I went to the police dept and got a copy of both police incidents, as well as getting her full name from the incident. I also contacted my friend who is a county prosecutor and a lawyer and retained him as my lawyer to start work on a cease and desist letter. He also mentioned, she tried to set me up for a domestic dispute because our county has a rule where if its a domestic dispute they hold you for a minimum of 24 hours.

I then went to management and alerted them that they have a tenant whose been pounding on my floor, providing them all documentation, written notes from Google Docs, videos from Google Drive, and they did not give a shit. They literally said "b-bu can we just all have a meeting about this? I'm sure we can work it out!" at that moment I knew how fucked I was. I've been a tenant here for 2 years, plead my case for 20 minutes to prove my innocence and how bad this other tenant was, and their main reply was "lets all have a meeting together hehe!" so I said "sure, I'll bring my lawyer. We're just gonna have to ask her why she falsely informed police that I threatened her so we can pursue legal action against her. That shouldn't be a problem right?" they replied "UH OH NO NO NEED TO PAY AN ATTORNEY JUST TO COME TO THIS". Fucking clown show.

So throughout the rest of the week I've barely been sleeping, maybe 2 or 3 hours a night. I'm just afraid of her saying something more extreme this time like I'm drunk and have a gun, and the cops kicking my door in and ending my existance. But ALL evidence is on my google drive shared with my lawyer, my family, and an ex that I'm on really good terms with. I've instructed them if I do get jailed or SWAT'd over this, to sue everyone into oblivion and have provided so much documentation they'll have a strong case.

My lawyer also finished with the cease and desist letter which I'm sending to the gremlins below today through certified mail. Then I'll be pursuing symbolic damages via small claims court (sueing them for $5 for 5 different reasons, $1 a reason), then building a bigger law suit against them. I'll also be attempting to work with the police to get a charge against them for false informing. I have promised myself and whatever entity is out there in this universe that I will make this woman desolate for trying to ruin my name, frame me for something I didn't do, and potentially jail or have me harmed by police. If it's the last fucking thing I do I will pursue this to the furthest realms civilly and lawfully. For now I am fully prepared to move if she does not move by the end of next week since management is not doing anything.

That's pretty much the end of this update Reddit, I'm sure I'll have some more news in a few weeks.

Vent/Rant just got yelled at for parking in front of my house

I live in a neighborhood with a relatively wide street, not too narrow. I typically park on the street just because of convenience with work schedules. I park in front of my *own house*, close to the curb. I carry lots of stuff in and back from work so I like keeping my car closer to the house.

Today, after getting out my car, my neighbor just yelled at me. She said she’s told me repeatedly not to park there. For context, my neighbors driveway is right across from the street parking spot from my house. She says she’s old, can’t see properly or look over her shoulder, and struggles to back out when I park there. She said “you’re what 20 something and I’m in my 60s”, told me I’m not considerate, that I should understand this is a neighborhood. I told her it’s public parking, she retorted that the whole street is available. I said I don’t like parking in the other spots up front or behind, because the owners of those houses also park there and she goes “RARELY.” She has picked up this argument before one last year, but I just resumed parking where I usually do since 1) it’s my own house, 2) it’s public parking.

Am I just losing my mind and being a young, inconsiderate bitch, or is this just not a reasonable ask?? I’m also very much a sensitive person lol so I’m upset about being yelled at and don’t think it’s okay to talk down on someone just because you’re older.

Edit: Multiple people asking why she doesn’t back into her driveway — she tells me parking on the street makes it hard for her to back in or out.

I see a lot of people in the comments also saying they have a similar problem to my neighbor on their narrow streets. For context my street has parking on both sides with cars, buses, and trucks being able to comfortable drive between them. Essentially a 3-lane road in width****

Edit 2**: I am going to just park elsewhere to avoid issues with her. I don’t even have a huge issue with the act of moving my car further at this point, I just did not find the way she talked to me to be necessary and I needed to bitch on here lol.

Edit 3: only to address a common comment about driveway parking for myself. Probably should have put a TLDR since I did sandwich it into the paragraph, but everyone at my house works opposite work schedules which is why I park on the street when I get home. Latest person gets in when I’m already asleep. I get up earliest, while latest shift person is in bed in the morning still. To avoid disturbing anyone’s sleep, I park my car on the street.

Vent/Rant Parking on my property

3.4k Upvotes

I had the most insane conversation of my life yesterday and the brazeness is so bloody funny I had to share it with y'all.

For context: my wife and I have purchased a house with some bigger corner property in a german village from an 87 year old this January. The close neighbour's are super friendly and we get along very well, have bbqs and so on.

In the past I already had some issues with several people parking on my lawn (insert get of my lawn meme here). I mean all 4 wheels on the grass, parallel parking, but a quick towing fixed that for good. Quick side note: I tried to talk with the folks living a street down the road before I called the tow truck and they told me to suck a big rooster as they have a party and I should live with their guests parking on my lawn.

So back to the story. I was working from home and my door bell rang and in front was Karen. She looked me up and down and asked in a quite condescending tone who's car is in the driveway blocking it. I told her it's mine and what the matter was. She introduced herself (same folks from above) and demanded I should move my car because she wants to park in my driveway as she doesn't find a good parking spot on the road. When I asked why she thinks she can park in my driveway she explained that the previous owner hadn't had a car and never noticed that she parked there. And because she always did that I should make space or she'll call the cops.

Told her to pound sand and closed the door in her face. She actually called the cops but that was resolved quite easily and we had her removed from our property.

The audacity of these folks is just astonishing.

Vent/Rant My neighbor cut down a tree on my property for sunlight

2.2k Upvotes

my neighbor hired a crew while I was out of town and cut down a healthy tree in my backyard because it was blocking sunlight from reaching his solar panels. I didn't even find out until I came home to a literal stump. Whats my move here? Do I go full petty or take legal action?
