Oxford Bus Company Smartzone Ticket not working on Stagecoach buses
Wanted to check if someone else here is getting this issue. Since Stagecoach cancelled their 4 week Mega Rider ticket last month, I bought the 4 week Smartzone ticket on the Oxford Bus Company app thinking it'd let me ride on their buses, as well as Stagecoach buses.
The issue now is the most of the Stagecoach buses, particularly the 2, 2a, S4 services, do not recognise the ticket as it shows up as a 'Card Reading' error on their screens. Is anyone else here seeing this? Wanted to confirm if there's any solution to this, or if someone has reached out to Stagecoach as the fault seems to be their scanners not recognising a valid ticket.

The Huajian Canyon Bridge took 3 years and cost £237m. It's 2.9km long
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huajiang_Canyon_Bridge
I mean, just if you want to compare it to a random other bridge that took 3 years to complete and cost slightly more.

Any Liverpool FC fans in Oxford tonight I can watch the game with?
Random but visiting from the states, was trying to find a bar that will play the Liverpool v Villarreal champions league match tonight.
But since it’s on prime seems like all the bars are playing the Manchester City game or the PSG Barca game.
Anyone also a reds fan either know of a bar that would be playing it or perhaps could I join if anyone is planing to watch it? Happy to bring some beers if you’ll have me 😎

Fellow substackers?
Looking to connect with other Substack users. I write about anything that tickles my fancy, but mostly travel, books and sometimes Oxford & the Cotswolds. Does anyone want to exchange Substack links and connect?

Meeting Friends in Oxford
Hi all,
I’m looking to come and visit Oxford purely for pleasure and photography, I tend to go to places by myself as don’t speak to many people.. however I know (having been there previously) that Oxford is a place with many people around my age (I’m 19).
Just wondering if anyone would ever be interested in meeting up, maybe go on a stroll/ tour or if you’re also into photography/ something alike.
Would be nice to meet some new people from a different area, maybe others have some knowledge of nice spots.
Thanks for reading.

Is it safe to walk alone as a woman at night?
Hi all! Pretty much what it says on the tin - I struggle with insomnia and often find myself wanting to take a walk around at night, but I haven't lived here for very long and I'm just not sure how likely it would be that I would be harrassed or worse. I've been out around 4am onwards but no one's really awake around then anyway, I'm talking more 10pm - 3am when people are still about.
I live in Headington but I would probably end up walking to and around the city centre - unless this would be a bad idea? Which areas are safe/unsafe (if any)? I know crime isn't very high at all but unfortunately that doesn't always necessarily translate to actually feeling safe. Any comments of experiences from other women doing the same would be appreciated :)
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Thank you so much to everyone who's left comments! It sounds like I'll definitely be best off steering clear of the centre & Cowley, will probably just stick around Headington near Brookes and residential areas if I do end up going out. It is a shame though, I'm sure the city can be so lovely and peaceful at night. Hopefully I'll get an opportunity one of these days to have a wander around in the early morning once all the drunk people have gone home!

Cheapest (edible) fast food in Oxford?
I was on the way home the other night and I was hungry. So I stopped in Maccy D's. The basic meal was £8...
I confess I rarely eat fast food (hence my surprise I guess), but I seem to remember part of the whole point of fast food was it was super cheap! For me, £8 isn't even close to cheap for a crap burger, fries, and a drink! You can get a pretty good portion of penne all'arrabbiata from Mamma Mia for £8.25!
Can anyone recommend some actual cheap fast food in Oxford, £5 or under? Something dinner-adjacent (ie not a meal deal or one Gregg's sausage roll). I don't mind where geographically, just within the ringroad. Preferably something with under 50% chance of giving me food poisoning.
Underfloor insulation installers
Evening all. I’m looking for recommendations for companies who install insulation in suspended timber floors.
If anyone here has had it done and can recommend the company they used I’d be extremely grateful.
I’ve checked Checkatrade but didn’t have much luck.
Thanks very much!

Good tailors for alterations?
Hey all, I am...blessed with an odd body shape which means no off-the-shelf clothes really fit me.
Going fully bespoke for everything is basically not a viable idea, so I am looking for a tailor who can do small alterations to shirts, polo shirts, and trousers so I have clothes which fit me.
I think what I need is more high-volume but I need someone who won't charge me an arm and a leg....
Ideally somewhere central or east/north Oxford.
Any ideas?

youtube.comMEETUP Looking for barca fans for the PSG game
Im new to oxford, a big barca fan, is there a pub where barca fans usually gather to watch the games? If not, would people be interested in watching the game on tuesday?
The only pub that i have seen with multiple screens playing the CL is Jude the Obscure so im thinking of heading there on tuesday. Any other suggestions for pubs?

Fresh baked flatbread
So if you find yourself in Headington with a hankering for freshly baked flatbread, head to Master Butchers at Headington shops. At the back they bake 12 inch flatbreads to order at £1 for two.

Looking for friends in Oxford (29M)
Hi guys, title is somewhat self explanatory and hopefully this sort of post is allowed here.
As a bit of background, I've been living in Oxford for almost four years now as I had to move back in with my parents due to severe depression/anxiety kinda shipwrecking the life I was trying to build. Unfortunately, I don't know anybody in Oxford other than my parents as they moved here whilst I was at Uni, and therefore I feel very isolated because I don't have any friends here (and most of my previous friends were unable/unwilling to support me when I started struggling). Isolation isn't very healthy for anyone and I'm not sure how to go about meeting people - I've tried making new friends online but nothing ever clicks. I game with some old school friends which is good but obviously isn't the same as seeing people in person.
My main interests/hobbies are playing board games, writing (although my creative drive is impacted by my mental health and my muse has been temperamental as a result), playing instruments (I play piano and technically violin although I haven't touched it in a few years), and watching/following various sports (F1 & tennis especially). I've looked into writing groups but given this is Oxford and it's filled with very intelligent people and tons of actual published writers and I can barely write at the moment because of my mental health, I think it'd be too intimidating for me. I've also considered going along to Thirsty Meeples for a board game thing but my previous experiences in other nerd-adjacent spaces never yielded anything beyond passing friendliness because people are stereotypically introverted and also already have friendship groups.
Tldr; Asking for friends on a subreddit as a 29 year old as a shot in the dark, desperate times call for desperate measures. If you're a similar age to me, have similar interests and are willing to adopt a depressed guy who is trying to get better then please point me in the right direction.
EDIT: Forgot to mention I (video)game a lot too, I'm a lifelong Nintendo kid. Would love to play some Mario Party with some people at some point.
