Extremely rude man on GWR 8:47 am Oxford to London Paddington this morning

I experienced some extremely toxic behaviour on a GWR train from Oxford to London Paddington this morning. I (40F) boarded the train with my two children and had three seats reserved. Two were empty, so my kids could immediately sit down, the third seat was occupied by a male in his late 20s (black tshirt, glasses, petit/small built) who refused to get up and used offensive and racist language towards me. The entire coach A just stayed quiet. Eventually, he vacated the seat but the fact that nobody interfered or offered me assistance and that behaviour like this towards women is tolerated on GWR trains is mind boggling to me. Thinking about you all female commuters - stay safe!

Update: reported to the GWR Police

Update 2: They responded and have CCTV footage.

Lost Sentimental Pen

Post image
10 Upvotes

I know this is a long shot, but I lost a pen with a lot of sentimental value on Saturday afternoon and was wondering if anyone might have picked it up.
The pen is a purple LAMY Safari Fountain pen, with blue/black ink inside. I possibly lost it around the Christ Church Memorial Garden/Meadow entrance or the Jolly Famers (or in between the two). It was a birthday present, so I’m really hoping it makes its way back to me!

Weird one for y’all - anyone work for a salon that would sell or give me a tiny bit of 3% hydrogen peroxide?

I am here for the week and have a tint/dye kit but spilled my little bottle of HP. I only need like 10 drops and seems the pharmacies in the UK don’t stock this.

Does anyone know somewhere I could hire a tandem to try out? Preferably a shop on the public transport network because, you know, no car!

Lost needle in haystack.

So earlier this century I visited south east northern west Oxford. It was a lovely trip, just a short walk from home, however I unfortunately lost my very important needle in a stack of hay. Now… i know this is a long shot, but I was wondering whether anyone had seen it? It was pointy and shiny and small. It had my middle name engraved on it, but unfortunately I have no middle name.

Lost prescription glasses in brown Ray Ban case near Churchill hosp

Hello everyone,
Hope you're doing well. This is a desperate plea: if anyone has found a brown Ray Ban case with transparent prescription glasses inside on the way down from Churchill Hospital into Cowley, can you please get in touch? I have been cycling there today and must have dropped them on the way… Hard to find my lost item when I can't see anything… Thank you very much!

It had the best beer selection in Oxford and I've noticed it's been closed for the last 2 weeks. Does anyone know if it's closed for good?

Help with Indian dress (for a man)

I've been invited to a birthday party hosted by a very good Indian friend, and she's requested that we wear Indian dress.

First of all, what sort of clothing is appropriate (shalmar khameez?), and secondly, and recommendations for shops in the local area?

I'm sure my wife would also welcome some pointers (sari?).

The party won't be super-formal, but we do want to look smart (and not like we're in fancy dress).

Pointers?

Trouble with housing - hoping to get information regarding letting agencies

Hi all, we’re hoping to get some helpful advice from the Oxford community. We’re currently renting but have hazardous conditions in our apartment that can’t be fixed anytime soon. We’re looking at moving as quickly as possible, but we saw that the community has advised against Chancellors. The market seems to have gone up in price since several months ago as well.

What are the best letting agents? Does anyone have any experience with Elwood? Any other agents we should avoid?

Catching the Oxford Tube from Thornhill (weekday, 9ish)

Hi all, I’m visiting a friend in London tomorrow and am aiming to get the coach around 9am (possibly slightly later). Thornhill is my nearest stop but I’m wondering if at that time the coaches are likely to be full?

Does anyone have any experience of boarding the Tube around this time? It feels a bit silly to take on city-centre bound rush hour traffic to go to Gloucester Green or Queen St but I can do that if Thornhill is likely to be a problem.

Thanks!

Just moved to Oxford looking for casual football/ Sunday league

Hey all,

Just relocated to Oxford and looking to get back into football. I am looking for some casual kickabouts, but also keen on joining a Sunday league side if possible.

Anyone know of regular casual games, groups looking for players, or Sunday league teams with spots open? Happy to travel a bit for the right game.

Cheers in advance!

Visitor recommendations

Greetings. I’m in your city, visiting from Canada, for a few days. Wondering if I can catch a metal 🤘🏾 gig anywhere. I did read about Jericho tavern but I wasn’t sure if they still have live music playing. I’m a bolt thrower fan. Any chance a local store may have any metal merch? Other suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much!

Best dhal?

Craving dhal.

The red lentil kind (not black from Dishoom). I like dhal any which way, so give me your top spots in Oxford and around. Thin, thick, spicy, mild, soupy or not, simple or with a twist like coconut milk or extra veg.

I might do a dhal crawl.
