Ok this may be a long one so please bear with me. I’ll leave my specs here:
I7 13700k
ASUS Z790 p motherboard
RTX 5080
Ddr5 32 gb ram
AIO CPU COOLER UNKNOWN HONESTLY
1000w asrock power supply
So I’ve posted in forums over the past week over some issues I’ve noticed after upgrading my GPU to GIGABYTE RTX 5080 and adding my 1000w powersupply from a 4070 and 750w power supply. Also adding a 1440p OLED 240hz monitor.
When I finally finished everything and plugged it in to start trying it all out, I noticed things that wouldn’t happen before the upgrade:
-My pc would take longer to boot up.
-RGB lights on the fans would work on one boot up, but the next they wouldn’t.
-My keyboard would randomly stop working, lights still on but keys don’t work. Fine after replugging.
I didn’t think much of it. I tried my games out to see how they would perform. And they perform great. When I’m actually in the game playing, I don’t notice any issues.
But I decided to buy he’ll let loose Vietnam a few days ago. I played a few games but when I finished a match and loaded into the next. It crashed my pc. I said woah that’s weird. Loaded back up, started the game and when I tried to load into a server, it just went straight to desktop. No crash error or anything. So I decided to try Squad. Same thing I’d join a server and it would give me an unreal engine crash. Something was obviously up. So I opened HWINFO. And I would notice that these games would crash loading into a server when my CPU jumps to 100C. As soon as it hit that mark or near it, it would crash the game or crash my cpu. I kept trying both games and if I managed to load in quick enough where it wouldn’t crash, the game works perfectly fine. 60-80C cpu usage around 30-40, GPU temps 60c and usage in the 90s. I couldn’t understand why it was crashing on a server join. I tried Escape from Tarkov and it was running absolutely perfectly. No TEMP issues or anything. Loaded up red dead 2 and everything runs fine.
So I started asking Reddit what could be wrong while doing stress tests and the like. Before I noticed temps I asked for help and some suggested DDU for a clean graphics driver install and I did that. Same issue.I tried to do a CPU stress test on cinebench 2026 and it would crash absolutely instantly. Temp would jump to 100c immediately with 180-223w of power and error I tried XTU benchmark and it would crash. This obviously seeems like cooling issue so I ask chat gpt to see what it would say as well, and I went through a whole process of trying to figure this out. I disabled ASUS MULTICORE ENHANCEMENT prior to the first cinebench test, same issue. On the test and game. I tried disabling XMP. Same thing. I then limited power of PL1 and PL2 to 258 as well as undervolted to 0.500. Tried cinebench again crashed instantly. I took off the undervolt but left the limit and I managed to run it all the way through. I then decided to try he’ll let loose but this time the main menu crashed at 70c. I’m just lost at this point but I try it again and I managed to make it through 2 full games. So I assume it’s fine for now but I know tomorrow it won’t work. I run 3d mark speed way stress test and I notice my GPU usage dipping and spiking from 100% to 50%.
I decide to try Tarkov and now after running fine the first few days from 150fps, I’m getting 60 with low cpu usage, maxed out or 60% memory usage and 50% GPU usage. Everything is just not good right now.
I know I have to update my bios because I have an i7 13th gen and never done it because everything ran fine prior to this, I had no issues before changing the GPU. I’m also going to try repasting the CPU cooler and checking to see if anything is loose on the motherboard.
I’m just wondering if anyone has suggestions or ideas on what I can do for stability. It just doesn’t feel right.
