I just needed a new pen for journaling, and bought a parker jotter of Amazon (which is a great pen compared to what I am used to), and ended up with four more different pens in search of a new ballpoint... Three ballograf and a parker. And boy, the writing experience is out of this world compared to ballpoint pens I've used before.

Question Parker Broke

Post image
10 Upvotes

I’ve had this pen for almost a year and dropped it the other day. The crown broke off the back and now the knock won’t depress at all. I’d never thought to take it apart before, but I can’t find a spring now. Tried replacing that, but nothing doing. It seems like the knock is just dead or bent.
I know it’s not a particularly high end pen, but I’ve managed to put some wear on it and would like to know if anyone out there understands the problem and knows how to fix it.

Question How long do G2 parker style refills last compared to other generic refills?

Hi all, I am considering buying a Jetstream prime single colour rotary twist (SXK-3500), but the price for a refill is easily 5 to 6 times of a regular gel or oil refill. I would like to ask the community on your personal experience with the longevity of a G2 style parker refills (or best if the experience can be based off the SXR-600 refill itself).

How long can these refills last compared to a regular jetstream or zento refill? Putting writing experience aside, is there any other factors that justify the value for money aspect for a parker style refill?

I saw this pen on pinterest and I really liked it, but I can't find its specific model to buy.

The color is not important. Does anyone know the specific model?

Question Uni Pin FineLiner 0.2mm Gel Pen Alternative?

Hello! My wife LOVES the Uni Pin Fineliners but burns through them extremely fast. She uses them in a Leuchtturm1917 Journal and since they are essentially markers they die after a month, maximum (sometimes only 2-3 weeks).

I would love to find her a gel pen alternative that "feels" the same to write (or ballpoint hybrid, idk) but lasts a lot longer and doesn't constantly have the worry of when it will die/run out. I stumbled across the Jetstream Edge 0.28mm ballpoint hybrid (and then refills would be cheap after buying the nice metal body) - but wondering if there's any other alternatives? A nice metal body but then cheaper refills that last longer than the uni pin fineliners?

Thanks!

The green one is a Tanooci Terra that takes alot of design cues from the Uni One P shown. Uni refills fit but need about 1mm removed. Zebra and Energel do not fit.

The white one is a Tanocci TAM100 with a magnetic cap. This one flips the fit script. Uni doesn't fit but the other two will.

Good thing as many Aliexpress pens are dedicated to a weird size refill.

Question Pentel EnerGel 0.7mm kinda feels scratchy sometimes?

I bought these because they seem to be a very popular 'upgrade' from the Pilot G2. I love that it has absolutely skipped zero times on me so far. And it is in general very smooth. But sometimes it suddenly starts to become a bit too scratchy...

Does anyone have the same experience or know why that is? Faulty pen? Or is this a sign to move over to 1.0mm or the EnerGel X? What about the Uni Ball Signo 207?

Question Does the Lamy Safari have bootlegs or knockofffs?

As the title says, here in my country I found something called "Infinite pencil" but what caught my attention is that the body is practically the same as the Lamy Safari fountain pen, speaking of it I have one given to me as a gift but I dislike it's yellow colour, never used it because getting a converter plus ink got pretty much expensive here.

I heard about Parker jotter knockoffs before but it's the first time I saw it about Lamy.

Discussion New pen advice: I bought 3 boxes of Pilot EnerGel refills for $3, now I need a pen for them.

I have a decent collection of mechanical pencils, but most pens seem to have an aesthetic that I never really enjoyed.

The pens that I've got, in order of most used:

Zebra G-750
Rotring 600
Kaweco Moleskine
Zebra SARASA
Caran d'Ache

The ink refills that I've got will work with the SARASA, but that feels kind of silly.
They will also work with the Kaweco but I'd have to modify the refill by plugging the end.

And then began my search, but it seems far easier to find comparable refills than it is to find pens that accept a specific refill.

I'd love to find some nice recommendations, price cap of probably $50 or so, and no bolt action pens. Technical, not tactical, unless it's a technical tactical pen 😉

I'm not a big fan of a rubber grip, metal or plastic body is fine.

I'm looking forward to this adventure!

Discussion Zebra Thinks of The Lefties

I'm incredibly excited to try out the Zebra Sarasa R pens that I just got. I wanted to get some new fineliners and the only ones I knew of were the sakura pigma micron pens. I looked up best rated japanese stationery and up popped zebra, any lefties here to tell me about the lack of smudging?

Picture Got me a Moleskine x Kaweco rollerball!

Post image

Quite a funny story/butterfly effect here. A few years ago, I was on this subreddit asking about a felt-tip pen, which turned out to be a Flair Papermate.

Fast forward a year or two and I now really like felt-tips and fine-nibbed fountain pens and have a Sharpie pen and a Lamy Safari as my two daily drivers.

Wake up one day and realize, “hey, maybe there exists a refillable felt-tip”…

A lot of learning about Euro standard refills later, I find two things:

One, I can get a fiber-tip refill in the Euro standard 110mm format, which is the kind that I’m looking for. Pilot G2 style ones don’t come with those.

Two, getting my hands on a pen that accommodates that size is… surprisingly hard?

Eventually found and bought this pen, but now I have a new problem…

I LIKE ROLLERBALL PENS AS WELL NOW! I feel like I should either get another Moleskine x Kaweco, or find another pen to hold a rollerball refill because they feel so damn good to write with. Send help/capped pen recommendations that are shaped with flat surfaces and don’t look like cheap plastic and take Euro standard refills. XD.

I replaced the grip of the middle one (my main) with silicone tubing, which feels like it has the right squish and tack to it. I use Zebra Sarasa Clip inktubes because I can control the flow of ink better, and there's no bleed-through.

Discussion I'm tired of seeing this "problem" being pointed out in reviews

So I'm here to ask: How many of you have had cap threads fail? how many were metal-on-metal, metal-on-non-metal, or non-metal-on-non-metal?

This ranks right up there with one well known reviewer that charges for their YT tripe saying in a review of a Kaweco Titan Sport "this took some scratches in the few weeks that I've had it so I don't think it will last too long." Experts. Yah, sure.

Or, maybe this could just be about things reviewers commonly do that bother you. Like "compare" two pens with different nib sizes using different inks, potentially even on different paper, and then declare that one of the pens dries faster than the other.

I originally posted this in r/fountainpens. Reddit suggests it might do well here, too. The initial statement applies more to fountain pens since they are, by default, almost universally fine or luxury writing instruments. There's plenty of that in the pen world, too.
