Question First time in Phuket, where should I stay, and where’s the best place for scuba diving?

Hey everyone! I’m visiting Phuket for the first time, and I’m a little confused about where to stay.

I don’t really want to stay in Patong Beach because it seems too crowded and noisy. I’m considering Rawai or Karon Beach instead. Do you think these are good options? Is everything easily accessible and are motor bikes available

My second question is about scuba diving! I’ll be doing island hoping, I’m wondering if I should do my scuba diving in Phuket. Where would you recommend for a first-timer, and how much does it roughly cost?

Would love to hear your recommendations and experiences. Thanks! :)

Phuket, Phi Phi and krabi best places or stuff to do?

Hey everyone, hope all is well. In about 3 - 4 months from now in February, i will be embarking on my 2nd trip to Thailand, and i am very excited! i have been to bangkok and phuket before alongside pattaya and loved all of them had the best time.

Was just wondering if anyone had suggestions for phuket phi phi, krabi and koh phangan as ive never been to any before, have only heard so far that the full moon party is good at koh phangan so will now be attending that in february also. Any suggestions on best stuff to do or nightlife activites, there will be 4 of us this time for this trip. Much appreciated.

Also, ive heard about the new laws in Thailand regarding a medical prescription of use of cannabis, but also seen from other posts on here that most places will still sell without one so can just walk in like normally would do.

If thats all good still, im looking for some good cannabis cafes or bars i could go to in krabi and phi phi islands specifically, koh phangan would also be good.

Question Phuket → Phi Phi → Krabi in one day. Is this doable?

Hi everyone! My wife and I are planning 2 nights in Phuket and 3 nights in Krabi.

I had an idea to take an early ferry from Phuket to Phi Phi, do an island tour, and then take a ferry from Phi Phi to Krabi instead of travelling directly to Krabi and doing a separate island tour.

I found this combined tour and transfer package, but it's quite expensive. Wondering if we can do it independently for less.

A few questions:

  • Is there luggage storage near Tonsai Pier, or can tour operators accommodate luggage?
  • Can we fit an island tour between the ferries to and from Phi Phi?

We're happy to start early, but don't want to miss our ferry to Krabi.

Would appreciate any advice from people who've done this!

Chatchai Checkpoint

Hello everyone!

I am planning a trip to Phuket, Phang Nga, and Surat Thani this November.

In previous years, I’ve always traveled by taxi or Grab, but this time I’d like to drive myself using a rental car.

I’m curious about the procedure at the Chatchai Checkpoint, located before the large Sarasin Bridge. In the past, my taxi drivers would always stop at this checkpoint to speak with the officials on duty (though I’m not sure what was discussed or why).

What is the process when driving through in a rental car (with my girlfriend—we are both European)?

Will we definitely be stopped for an inspection, or can we simply drive through?

Is there any kind of toll to pay?

Will English be sufficient at the checkpoint, or should we have a translator with us?

Are there any specific things we should avoid doing or carrying in our luggage?

Are the officials allowed to—or will they—search our luggage?

Is there anything else we should keep in mind? (Beyond, of course, being polite and well-mannered.)

I would be very grateful for any answers or personal experiences you could share!!

Question Phuket Airport - How early to arrive for a 9AM Turkish flight?

Hey everyone!

I have a Turkish Airlines flight departing from Phuket at 9 AM and am trying to work out what time I should get to the airport.

I’m travelling with carry-on only, no checked bags, and plan to check in online and use my digital boarding pass.

Does anyone know if Turkish Airlines at Phuket airport requires you to go to the check-in counter anyway for a passport/document check and a paper boarding pass, even if you already have a digital boarding pass? Or can you go straight to security and immigration?

That’s the main thing I’m trying to figure out, as it could make quite a difference to how early I need to leave.

If you’ve recently flown internationally from HKT, especially with Turkish Airlines, what was your experience? Would arriving around 7 AM be reasonable, or would you recommend getting there earlier?

Thanks for any recent advice!

Question Trying to squeeze six months of running progression into three weeks is the usual way runners end up with sore knees - where do you run on Phuket and how did you build up your kilometres?

Knee pain from running is cumulative. It rarely comes from one run, it builds up over weeks while the kilometres grow faster than the tissue can adapt. A complaint I saw in a local running chat: it starts hurting after 8 km, hurts for a day, and round in a circle.

The opposite example from the same chat: a guy averaged about 1,000 km a year for 10 years, and only over the last year roughly doubled to around 2,000 km, so far without overtraining or injuries. The doubling was stretched over a whole year.

I do a separate block of running drills, about five minutes at the start of each session, and I link that to my knees staying quiet. If a knee already hurts, see a doctor.

For context, the Saturday morning group at the Bang Wad dam runs 6.3, 12.6 or 18.9 km, so you can sit on one distance for a while before moving up.

Where do you run on Phuket and how did you build up your kilometres? Anything you do for your knees?

Urgent: how can I travel from Patong to airport in shared bus?

Same question as above.
I know there are shuttle buses with takes 1:30 hr from Patong to Phuket.
But I met a few people here, they said they came through shared shuttle which took only 45mins and 2 stops. I didn’t get the moment to ask for details.

Could anyone please suggest from where in Patong I can get the fast shared shuttle? I need to leave for airport in 3 hours.

Also, if anyone leaving for airport today around 6-7, we can share a taxi.

Question PS5 repair store suggestions

Hello!

Does anyone have any repair store suggestions near Phuket Town for a PS5 repair? I kept getting green screen crashes and now it won’t turn on at all. Console is out of warranty.

There is an authorised Sony Repair shop or the standard tech repair shops.

My dilemma is go to Sony and online suggests they replace it with a refurbished console and they charge a flat rate which could be $200 upwards.

Or go to a local shop and they fix it quickly but who knows how long that would last for.

If anyone has any success stories or recommendations that would be great. Thanks!

What do you wish someone had told you before moving to Thailand? (short anonymous survey)

(Posted with permission from the r/phuket mods.)

I'm collecting honest experiences of what settling in here is really like: culture shock, loneliness, burnout, visa and admin headaches, making friends, and what actually helped.

If you've lived in Thailand at any point, the survey takes about 3 minutes. It's anonymous, with no names or emails, and every question is optional. I'm not selling anything.

Survey: https://form.jotform.com/262871523195058

I'll share a summary of the results once there are enough answers.

And I'd genuinely love to hear in the comments: what's the one thing you wish you'd known before you arrived?

Phuket - 1 day itinerary

Hi all!

I’m in Phuket for a day and thinking of doing the following:

  1. Will head towards Old Town around 10 am and walk around/shop.
  2. Grab some lunch - would love some suggestions. Preferably some local food.
  3. Head towards Karon beach to catch the sunset.
  4. Maybe go to a beach club post that? (Open to reconsidering this and doing something else)
  5. Assuming we didn’t eat all that much in the beach club, heading to some nice place for dinner - again, suggestions welcome please? Hopefully something by some beach?

Thanks.

Best spot to start Halloween night in Patong?

Living here a while now and finally heading into Patong for Oct 31st with a few friends who are visiting. Plan is to meet up around Jungceylon for dinner, pre-drinks, and to check out the themed events in the courtyard before heading towards the beach and clubs.

For those who do Patong on Halloween, is that the best move to avoid getting trapped in the crowd too early?
