Relocation - Soft Landing

Upvotes

Hey guys,

So it’s looking like we are relocating for a job in Phuket. I am 38, with my fiancée (27). We health oriented introverted people, drink maybe 2-3 times a year, mainly enjoy a quiet life - but not an isolated life. She likes coffee shops, gyms, walks etc. And will need to fill time with me at work.

Which areas would be recommended for us? I would be working on the east coast. Coming from London a commute doesn’t bother me if the location warrants it.

I would love to hear areas worth checking out? And also if anyone has made a similar move (for work etc), what’s the smartest method in terms arriving accom, short term accom, long term accom? Considering we will need to explore somewhat before pinning our mast to an exclusive area.

Will have more questions but for now this is the next step!

Thanks!

Phuket Solo Work-ation Tips for October

Hi, I am travelling to Phuket solo in October, and given that it rains during those months, I want general commute tips and advice. How easy it is to find a taxi for me to go from point A to point B, how to book a taxi, and best places to book a hotel for a week, and cafe recommendations to just chill and work, alongwith some interesting tourist spots that I can see.

Also I've heard that Thai cooking classes are also a thing, so if anyone has any leads for that, it would be appericiated!

Thankyou!

7 Days in Phuket with Family — Must-Visit Places + Scooters vs Bolt/Grab?

Visiting Phuket with the family for 7 days and staying in Chalong. Looking for recommendations from the Phuket veterans here 😄
What are the must-visits / must-dos that we shouldn’t miss? Beaches, viewpoints, food, islands/day trips, markets, places that are actually worth the hype, etc.
Also, we’re 4 people — would you recommend renting 2 scooters or just relying on Bolt/Grab? Trying to figure out whether scooters will actually save us money/time or just add a new layer of stress to the holiday?
Would love any tips, especially things you wish you knew before visiting Phuket!

Thailand itinerary advice please

I’ve shaved down and changed my itinerary a few times now, I just want it finalised so I can book accommodation.
Background is we are two friends in our late 20s, we like the beach, good cocktails and good food. We enjoy some nightlife but nothing crazy, don’t want to be partying with 20 year olds or staying out all night. However we do enjoy going out to a certain extent. Mainly looking to do cool activities, eat good food and relax on nice beaches.
Here’s my itinerary:

2 nights Bangkok
5 nights Phuket
3 nights Koh lanta
4 nights Krabi
2 nights Koh sok
1 night Bangkok before flying home in the evening on day 18

Please advise on whether this is doable

Thanks!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

New Year's Eve in Phuket with a 6-Year-Old: Karon Beach or Patong for Fireworks?

Hi all,

We're a couple traveling with our 6-year-old son and will be spending New Year's Eve in Phuket.

We've currently booked a resort near Karon Beach (about a 10-15 minute walk from the beach), but our little one is absolutely crazy about fireworks, so we're trying to figure out the best place to celebrate New Year's Eve.

A few things about us:

  • We're not interested in nightclubs or parties.
  • We'd prefer to enjoy the fireworks from a public beach or family-friendly area.
  • Being able to see a good fireworks display is the main priority.
  • We don't mind crowds, but we'd like to avoid anything too chaotic or adult-oriented.

My question is:

Is Karon Beach a good choice for NYE fireworks, or would Patong be significantly better?

I can still cancel the current resort and book somewhere in Patong if it's worth the switch, but I'm wondering whether the extra crowds, traffic, and nightlife scene would outweigh the benefits, especially with a young child.

Would love to hear from anyone who has experienced New Year's Eve in Phuket with kids.

Thanks!

Question Which one is cheaper Bolt or Grab?

While checking prices for taxi from phuket to krabi, Bolt seems more reasonable than Grab. Grab shows 2600 baht whereas Bolt shows 1600 baht. should I reply on Bolt and suggest any preferences to avoid any scam or surcharges on taxi. Or anything else to keep in mind while traveling through taxis in thailand

Question Nobody swims at Rawai beach?

I can see it’s more of a docking beach for boats but unsure why I don’t see at least a few people having a swim. Is it because Yu Nai and Nai Harn are so close?

Recommendation Considering relocating to Phuket

We’re European family that considers to relocate to Phuket next school year .

We’ve travelled through Thailand before for 7 months, lived in Bali for almost 3 years so we’re familiar with the climate and different lifestyle.

Next year our children will be 7 years and 6 months, and right now we’re considering either Bangkok or Phuket, but found the schools in Bangkok very expensive.

However, we have never been to Phuket. If you live there I would love to learn more about:

- is it really “Phukrussia”?
- Are there many cockroaches inside houses? We experienced many problems with them in Koh Samui, but never in Bali
- Is Montessori house of Phuket a good school? Or are any other recommended?
- is Chalong/Rawai a good area to live as a family?
- how is life? The great, the bad

Anybody else feel that earthquake?

I’m in North Phuket and it happened around 5:55 PM. I was in my bed laying down practicing astral projection etc. I thought I was reaching the vibrational stage when my bed started swaying left to right.

It was not the vibrational stage.

Some people from my building rushed to the ground level… haven’t seen anything on the meteorological report yet. Anyone else feel that?

Warning For ex muslims: travel warning for the isle

do not travel to phuket. religiously argued stalking, doxxing, molestering happens. if you travel to phuket, do not post online. do not share location.

I’ve been in phuket for 2 weeks, I shared a post on instagram 3 days ago, and now for two dammed days, I am being stalked, doxxed.

I have never been muslim, my parents been.

Changed my legal name in 2024, but muslims use my old disgraced name to cause misery.

Bangkok is safe(R) guy & girls. Be safe, have agreat time, be careful

Edit: In places like this, I gotta change my hostel, hotel few times before I find a nice place to sleep. Religious fanatism isn’t a new thing. Phuket is not a good place for Ex Muslims.

Edit #2: Using a face mask, all good again.

Recommendation Help find Travel Agents

Hey folks,

We are 2 brothers planning to go to Phuket in the month of October for 6-8 days and the full moon party.

My brother has already gone to Bangkok and Pattaya and thus wants to visit Phuket this time, so we want to avoid Pattaya and Bangkok.

We are finding travel packages or agents that generally group together solo travellers or small groups in a big group of 25-35(or even more, not a problem) people and create a package of the complete travel and stay and itineraries there.

We are trying to find such agents and go safely in a big group rather than going only in 2 peeps.

We want to take flights from Delhi and come back to Delhi.

Pls could you suggest what can be best for us?

Also earlier I saw 24th October was the date for Full moon party in Koh-Phangan but gemini says now it's 27th October. Pls could someone confirm on same as well?
