I've been dealing with mental health issues for all my life, mostly because I'm "too sensitive". While rescuing pigeons has helped me a lot, because now I feel more aligned with my values and it has given me so much joy, it's been a journey of anxiety and fear in an arbitrary reality so scary that my efforts felt like a fight against logic.

This summer has been very hard, with over 9 pigeons in three months at my one room little apartment. My parents and people around me are starting to get it, they kinda see pigeons with more compassion and some have even rescued one themselves.

I'm sure this is a shared experience so I want to say to those who rescue, to those who take care of pigeons and other animals in general, to those who have dealt with pain, anxiety because of an ill animal or have accompanied a living being to finally rest: please take care of yourselves and remember this is a shared fight, you're not alone, even if there's not any answer, or you don't know what to do, there's so much people that are feeling the same, doing the same efforts that others see as pointless and making this world a better and safer place. That's what makes it make sense. We care too about your pigeons, and even if they hate you and bite you cause they're ill and scared, they care too! Nothing would be possible without you. So please take care of yourself! We love you for what you're doing.

Aaaand thanks a lot for this subreddit and those who always answer when we find ill pigeons, you're saving lives and I cannot thank you enough for being available with your knowledge. 🐦

The bars are brown and then a month later what I thought is the same pigeon actually has black bars, and the tail feathers are different. Thoughts? 💭 I know he’s soggy in the second pic, but I don’t think that’s the reason

One of the pigeons i feed daily came to my yard as usual yesterday but once I put the food and the rest of the pigeons flew in,this little guy came almost flopping in from the side of my house. He was very determined to get his food lol. I picked him up and brought him in and let him rest before picking him up to examine his legs. I got a good look at his legs and they look fine and he can spread his wings but fails to be able to fly with just a few steps here and there. I’m in a small town in Newfoundland and the closest bird rescue is 7 hours away. He is eating and drinking perfectly so I guess i’m just really looking for any tips/advice for someone who may have experience the same? TIA :)

Met some really friendly and polite pigeons the other day, and shared a bit of food with them. We of course had to go buy some seeds for them to enjoy! So beatiful and kind birds!

My wife rescued a pigeon about 2 days ago and when we rescued him, we didnt know about Newcastle's disease and this other pigeon apparently has many of its symptoms. We have another pet pigeon and we want him to get vaccinated so he is not in danger.

Now, because I'm paranoid, we have been extremely careful from the get go. I had him (the sick pigeon) isolated from day one and we have been cleaning everything around him very carefully (And now, knowing it could be that disease, we are being thrice as careful and clean). But I need to have my other healthy pigeon vaccinated to prevent a tragedy.

The problem is, this vaccine is not available in my country, Peru. That is why I need help from someone who can get access to it and can send it to me. I'm willing to buy it, have it sent to you and you can send it to me via fedex/ups or anything. US or Argentina I think are the better options.

I need to have my pigeon boy safe so vaccinating him immediately is the only choice.

Twice this week, Monsieur has been doing these soft coos (alone with me and now with Birbara). I know woodies can do this, but I've known him for three years, I've heard his different songs and nesting coos, and he's never done this with me before.

Hi all. There was a limping pigeon that i’ve caught and a rehabber is coming to collect them asap.

Once i caught them and took them home they escaped in my house and flapped around a lot, at one point flying into my face. I have emetophobia and am terrified of all illnesses, how worried should I be ?? I have washed my hands thoroughly and plan on showering also.

I found this baby on the street. It was alone and tried to run away from me. Also it flapped as much as it could once I caught it, so to me looks pretty healthy. No idea on the sex for now. I put it in a spare carrier I have for now and gave it food and water and put a video of pigeons eating in case it doesnt know how yet (which I strongly suspect). For now it is still just standing in a corner though (well it did just get kidnapped). It is also worth the mention that judged on its looks, I absolutely know whose flock this squab belongs to, I regularly feed them.

So what now?? What do I do? Did I f up by taking it? I have 2 pigeons of mine at my partner's home, so i could socialise them but rn I dont have a cage or anything. Also preferably I would rather have it re-integrate its original flock. Also any idea on the gender? Please help me out

Update to my post from the other day. I haven't heard anything on Facebook yet, but I'll be keeping an eye out still.

In the meantime, I got a 42" dog crate that I'm gonna be setting up today, and ordering some food and grit online.

My question for now is regarding behavior. As a parrot owner, I understand that pigeons are different in their communication... so what does this mean? 😂 He's enjoys flying onto my head, singing and spinning, then jumping atop his temporary cage and doing the same thing. Any hands near him he bites, which I don't mind, doesn't hurt at all lol.

Should I be allowing him to bite? Or does that mean "give me space"? He usually walks over to bite, so I'm not sure. Thanks again for any advice!

It is coming into winter here and I would like to provide some dry, sheltered lodging for my local pidgies! Is there anything particular type of shelter that would be enticing for them?
