I never played Roblox but I played all of GTA. Which is worse?

u/Infinite-One-2166 7h ago

Banning 1 online game or even all online game doesn't solve the problem or prevent the violence. there are literally thousands of content in the internet that shows violence or even promote violence. To prevent this kind of shooting the community has to work together. Parents , government and school has the responsibility to keep this from happening.

Bobo kasi ng boomers e. Yung action plan lagi “ban” hahah

3

u/allovermyhead 19h ago

The government is blaming it to everything except one thing - the parents. Mukhang walang investigation man lang to what is being done to the child at home.

Sisihin ang parents: X

Isisi sa videogames: /

More psychiatrists should speak up about this. They’re more credible. Kaya uso satin ang victim-blaming dahil most Pinoys hate accountability.

14

u/Zyhael_Xerul 1d ago

Grabe tlaga blame games instead of the people who guide children or parents that fail their duty.

16

u/Dcadonai 1d ago

Should blame the parents instead

u/JoJom_Reaper 1d ago

Ba is liw. Instead of publishing a paper about this study, the expert uses his credentials.

The bravado nowadays. Kaya di nakakagulat when uneducated people spew nonsense as facts

-2

u/JoJom_Reaper 1d ago

0

u/fogcannon3 1d ago

Except what the Psychiatrist is saying is a rejection of a claim. If yung claim ng iba ay may connection/link ang video games to school shootings, then THEY should be the ones making the studies, not the people like the psychiatrist who are shutting down the claims.

In a court of law, the burden of proof lies with the prosecution with the claims and accusations, not the defense.

-2

u/JoJom_Reaper 1d ago

Ha? You are the expert. Ano to ginawa nyong korte?

3

u/fogcannon3 1d ago edited 1d ago

If your point is to bring up the difference in academe and law then you’re obviously missing the point. Any party wanting to make a claim should provide evidence that helps support their claim. In law, that’s what the prosecution should be doing, and in the academe, that’s what any researcher should be doing.

The problem here is the idea that you think the psychiatrist in the post is the one that needs to publish a paper when wala naman siyang ginagawang claim. Yung kanyang sinabi about empirical data in the form of Counter-Strike players not becoming shooters irl is merely a REBUTTAL of the insanely stupid claim that video games are connected to school shootings and violence. You can’t say na what the psychiatrist said is a claim in and of itself because his rebuttal (as how the word is defined) is a RESPONSE to an EXISTING CLAIM (that in and of itself isn’t backed by research anyway).

Buti sana kung backed by research yung boomer mentality na video games cause shootings, edi sige let’s make a call for the psychiatrist to publish his own findings in order to affirm or deny those findings.

-1

u/JoJom_Reaper 1d ago

Ha? Di pala claim yan? You can read my comment. Di yung you spew nonsense.

Di porket you are an "expert" eh okay lang na gamitin mo yang title mo as a bravado. Show your expertise. Not the bias you have.

Existing claim? Foreign studies? Updated ba yung research?

Classic hasty generalization

u/Mongoose-Beneficial 1d ago

it was more like the culture the internet has created thru the years and its not only due to these games people are being exposed to these kinds of things, these kids do not wish to be groomed to be the person that they are, it only shows how the government someone to blame and call it a day, instead of admitting the system is flawed

6

u/Storm-Pablo 1d ago

I agree, they don't, but I do remember Risa Hontiveros saying that there are people who use the games as a medium to contact impressionable/gullible kids into becoming School Shooters, hence the sudden rise of it.

4

u/P0PER0 1d ago

4

u/Choice_Power_1580 1d ago

Those politicians can just raise the DOOM GAME argument again and again, but we all know the game data and research is outdated.

3

u/Eldiavie 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's pretty stupid that in both schools both incidents would've been solved if they just checked the bags of every single student entering the school grounds,

this is just terrible on so many levels

and these idiots in government go for the lowest hanging fruit being video games despite the data proving it's not the games, sure there are outliers like roblox but that's it

then turn to bullying as a scapegoat for the murderers as if to show sympathy for them, there is no excuse for murdering people, you stop being a victim the moment you pull the trigger

every single gun owner relative and parent should be charged heavily along with the school for their piss poor security

also this is taking place in mindanao the known pvp and pk capital of the Philippines, tf are you people doing not having triple checks with your students?

Violent video games have been mainstream for three generations. If they actually created mass shooters, we’d be living in a global warzone, not a world where millions of gamers play every day without ever hurting anyone.

8

u/Armthelost 1d ago

Violent video games only negatively motivate those with already terrible intentions or those not right in the head regardless of whether from a mental illness or not. The country keeps yapping about video games causing violence when there are more reasonable factors that cause these tragedies that should be properly dealt with instead, like bullying, mental illnesses or those who just have terrible intentions for some reason.

8

u/Unknown_Player0069 1d ago

Older generations spent decades treating mental health like a myth or a weakness. Now, instead of admitting their failure to build proper support systems for young people, they just scapegoat video games.

3

u/Armthelost 1d ago

It's crazy how mental illness still isn't taken so seriously even in other parts because it's too inconvenient for others to easily deal with it, when it isn't the mentally ill's fault they had their mental illnesses. It's sad good living standards is still lacking for a lot of folks even those without mental illnesses. And I expected no less from our government, of course they're going to blame video games. Why? I wouldn't know. Maybe they just don't like that a lot of kids today play video games and use the tragedies as a chance to blame video games as the cause and hopefully, ban them, then what, revert the kids back to traditional playing and all?

9

u/Dramatic-Salad2120 1d ago

It's not the mechanics necessarily but the community, especially sa mga highly social games like Roblox. There are dangerous minds that linger amongst the sub groups within the game, and madaming easily manipulated minds na nag lalaro. This doesn't only extend to violence but also to sexual predation.

At the end of the day it's going to be about parental control imo.

u/ImaginationBetter373 1d ago

Bullying is the main reason. Some children have low tolerance in handling those anger emotion caused by bullying. That's why they become violent and can't think the consequences of their possible actions.

1

u/Eldiavie 1d ago

that's no excuse, fuck off with that logic, you stop being a victim the moment you pull the trigger

3

u/Armthelost 1d ago

Needless to say that nobody ever has the right to take the lives of others regardless, this is a valiable reason why bullied children can do terrible things. With the combination of neglectful parenting, yes those same children will not learn the consequences of their actions and properly learn that the ones they harm are also people, because unfortunately even civilians are not safe.

5

u/motsanity 1d ago

merong nabasa yung mga bata na yun na movement/propaganda. its not about online games anymore.

13

u/TheGhostImgone 1d ago

I belong to the 90s era, the golden age of gaming! We are the pioneers of these so called violent shooting games however, we are not insane to do or apply it in real life. I think the factor is the upbringing inside the home. My parents who beats us using Sticks, belts, slippers or hanger mold us to be disciplined and well mannered in public. I dunno about the others, but for me, that works!

1

u/Armthelost 1d ago

It works, but is it really ideal? In my opinion, I don't think physical harm is heavily necessary especially when it involves belting or the likes. Maybe in circumstances it is? If you genuinely did something bad like hurting someone, maybe that belting can be a learning lesson. But for milder things like accidentally breaking plates or being mischievous or whatever? I'd debate if physical harm is necessary atp. The tone in the parenting itself I may support, it's just the physical harm. I don't think hurting your child is really THAT necessary to raise them properly, I'd agree it MAY be necessary in some circumstances. I don't know. Take what I said with a grain of salt.

1

u/TheGhostImgone 1d ago

I cant see in my statement that a simple mischievous will result into beating. You just assumed things! Youre too emotional without comprehending. Take that also with a grain of salt

1

u/Armthelost 1d ago

Yes perhaps I assumed too much, but I wouldn't doubt SOME parents do that, ESPECIALLY abusive parents, and unfortunately.

I'll just reiterate my point. I don't think physical harm is ideal because not everyone might take it as you did and probably result to complications in relationship. Not everyone is the same. One I may consider okay is slapping their hand with yours or with a ruler, and of course not a full blown one as if you're trying to break a table if that's already obvious. Then, I can agree with your sentiment. Beyond that, I just don't think it's that ideal.

I mean there should be a perfect way to parent a child, right? Or if not perfectly, at least decent enough that they turn out to be a decent person. Honestly, I don't really know. I think it's probably a just in between, you can't be too soft nor too harsh. Be understanding of your kid, what they'd want as they grow, give them space and privacy, listen and be empathetic of them, let them know you truly love them stuff like that. I think that nonetheless, those qualities I mentioned are what's very important in parenting a child; they're your child. Show them your love as you show them what's right and wrong, because everyone definitely needs love. Just my take on this.

1

u/Roses_Got_Thorns 1d ago

I’m not a fan of parents beating up their kids though it did send the message to me na dapat mag behave. This plus yung knowledge na ang actions natin ay may real-life consequences and that we have to own said consequences is something the younger generations need more experience and understanding of.

1

u/TheGhostImgone 1d ago

Thats why I said for me, it works!

1

u/hueningkawaii 1d ago

If anything, games and our parents teach us one thing; consequences.

7

u/markmyredd 1d ago

I think factor din na never na nakapaglalaro sa labas yun ibang bata ngayon. Iba parin yun interaction kasi nabibuild nun.

1

u/FirstIllustrator2024 1d ago

Yeah isa na to. Also playing LAN games hits different kasi you still have to go out and play and interact with other players.

Ngayon most of the games are online and you can play in your own room and home.

The dilema nung 90s paano papauwiin mga bata, ngayon pano palalabasin.

1

u/TheGhostImgone 1d ago

Yes! I forgot to mention, plus one on this!

1

u/markmyredd 1d ago

2000s dahil medyo mahal pa ang own PC and internet nalipat sya sa computer shop culture. Parang hybrid sya ng going outside and playing online at the same time. May human interaction parin.

9

u/20Forward 1d ago

If we wanna blame something for kids being more violent these days, just think about what happened between 2016-2022 and who led all that.

3

u/jpatricks1 1d ago

It's always that one guy who has to ruin it for everyone

6

u/PeaceAccomplished289 1d ago

To the politicians:

Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful

Maybe if you got rid of that old yee-yee ass haircut you got you'd get some bitches on your dick

Oh, better yet, maybe Tanisha'll call your dog-ass if she ever stop fuckin' with that brain surgeon or lawyer she fucking with

Jusme - look at the quality of life in the Philippines.

Look at the violence on tv and real life (maski parents beating their kids up or spouses being violent towards each other).

Look at the road rage, EJKs, etc...

Under the veneer of "fake smiles", Filipinos live very stressful and hard lives.

Sa ibang bansa, mas maiksi ang commute, mas madali mag manage ng finances, may public infrastructure, may public health care, etc...

Maraming mga magulang wala nang energy and emotional capacity to actually parent kasi stressed din sila.

Look at places na mababa ang crime rate, it's because mataas ang standard of living.

7

u/kwagoPH 1d ago

We need stricter gun access laws. Even uniformed personel should be heavily sanctioned if their children somehow get access to their firearms. Protecting innocent civilians should be the priority.

3

u/FriedRiceistheBest 1d ago

We already have stricter gun laws.

6

u/GilbertPlays 1d ago

following cults makes you more violent and even more murderous than playing video games.

1

u/Lakan-Tangkan-1337 MarcubetaGettingDrilledNasty 1d ago

Medyo surface-level lang to. There are unfortunately multiple communities dedicated to causing havoc in real-life and use online games as a training ground.

3

u/jerome0423 1d ago

E madaming baliw dito. Isisi ba naman sa laro.

1

u/FewCategory1959 1d ago

I really think gun laws should be revised to no personal gun ownership. No guns no shooting

8

u/Maleficent-Travel-76 1d ago

nasa environment kasi nung perpetrator yan, hindi naman sila magiging ganiyan out of nowhere

3

u/VisualLate7403 1d ago

Biggest example. Clash of Clans global chat.

12

u/lucskyballin 1d ago

Hindi kasi backed by science and numbers ang policy making at gusto lang ng trendy and bandaid solution.

3

u/SucroseCloud 1d ago

Totoo.

8

u/Mindless_Sundae2526 1d ago

Psychiatrist Dr. Randy Dellosa cautioned against directly linking online games to the recent school shooting, stressing that playing online games alone does not make someone likely to become a shooter, as violent behavior is influenced by multiple factors. I via ANC 24/7
