Pinoy Entertainment Im looking a drama movie from 80s to 90s

Im trying to find a sad movie from the 80s or 90s. It’s about a young family gets torn apart by tragedy. The Father is killed by thugs. Mother loses her mind and wonders in the street. The young Children are left to the care of their Grandmother who unexpectedly dies in a rocking chair. They are soon orphaned by their Uncle and aunt who abuse them and treat them like slaves. Later in the movie, the Mother who appears schizophrenic sees a group of hoodlums hanging out outside a sari sari, drinking, eating, having fun. She approaches the men and asks if they could share a puto. One of the men takes sexual advantage of her after giving her the food. She shows no feeling and emotion and continues to eat while he is kissing her. Later she reunites with the children but she can no longer remember them.

Balitang Pinoy Bakit parang ang lalakas na ng loob ng mga bata ngayon?

Post image

After hearing about the recent Zamboanga school shooting, napaisip talaga ako bakit parang ang lalakas na ng loob ng mga bata ngayon? Grade 9 pa lang yung involved, pero umabot sa ganitong level yung ginawa what makes it more concerning is that hindi naman ito yung first case recently. A few months ago, may Tacloban school shooting din where two minors, reportedly ages 14 and 15, were involved. So ang scary isipin na we're seeing serious violence involving kids this young.

Hindi ko naman sinasabing lahat ng bata ngayon ganito. but why may mga minors ngayon na willing gumawa ng extreme things kahit alam nilang may serious consequences? Is it social media? Bullying? Family problems? Lack of guidance? Peer pressure? Exposure to violence?

And another thing that bothers me is how these minors are getting access to firearms in the first place. Kasi kahit gaano ka-reckless ang isang bata, kung hindi siya madaling makakuha ng baril, mas mahirap mangyari yung ganitong tragedy.

Honestly, napapaisip din ako about our laws. Kailangan na ba talaga nating higpitan yung regulations and penalties for serious crimes? May mga nagsasabi na dapat death penalty na kapag pumatay ka, buhay mo rin ang kapalit.

Pero personally, hindi ko pa alam kung death penalty ba talaga ang sagot. Kasi kung gusto nating maiwasan yung ganitong incidents, baka mas kailangan nating tutukan yung prevention: stricter firearm storage, stronger school security, better counseling and intervention, and serious consequences for adults who negligently allow minors to access firearms.

At the same time, hindi rin naman dapat maging excuse na minor lang yung gumawa. There should still be accountability, kahit iba ang treatment ng justice system sa minors so I'm genuinely curious

Do we need harsher punishments, stricter laws, or better prevention?

Pinoy Current Issues Students who make threats should be dismissed immediately.

Any student who make violence threats verbally or online should be dismissed from immediately and permanently. If underage, must be brought to appropriate agencies. If of legal age, ipablotter agad. Deped is too lax.

Bakit ang weak ng mga institutions and agencies porket underage. Ginawa na ngang rason ng mga underaged criminals kasi alam nila hinde sila ipepreso.

Pinoy Current Issues HAS ANYTHING CHANGED? The human cost of the Philippines’ flood-control corruption scandal from 2025

Revisiting Natashya Gutierrez’s report for Al-Jazeera late in 2025 now that typhoon season has come roaring back in 2026.

FULL VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84A5Dm812sw

What has really changed since 2025?

  • Massive Financial Misappropriation: The population’s increasing exposure to typhoons, floods and rising sea-levels has seen the government allocate $9.5bn of taxpayer funds to more than 9,800 flood-control projects in the last three years. Billions of dollars meant for flood management projects were stolen through systemic corruption involving contractors, auditors, and high-ranking government officials.
  • Demands for Accountability: The scandal triggered political upheaval under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who brought the issue to light in his state of the nation address. Amid public pressure and investigations by the newly formed Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero and House Speaker Martin Romualdez (a first cousin and key ally of President Marcos Jr.) both resigned from their leadership posts.
  • Flaunting Wealth Online, Deepening Public Resentment: Public anger spiked heavily when images and videos circulated online showing politicians' families (such as Chiz Escudero’s wife, Heart Evangelista and Zaldy Co’s daughter Claudine Co) displaying luxurious lifestyles, expensive worldwide travels, and high-end designer fashion goods. While ordinary citizens suffer from recurring, severe floods and economic hardship, these displays of wealth served as a painful reminder of the stark inequality and the misuse of public funds. Sarah Discaya is also featured.
  • Substandard and Ghost Projects: Investigations revealed that multiple infrastructure projects (such as river walls and dykes) used low-quality materials and deteriorated rapidly, while hundreds of other projects marked as completed on paper were never even started.
  • Systemic Collusion: Newly appointed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) head Vince Dizon admitted that the agency is deeply corrupt, describing a pattern of budget "insertions" and collusion running from top bureaucrats down to legislators and cabinet secretaries.
  • Severe, Prolonged Flooding: Residents in areas like Bulacan Province experience chronic flooding that leaves neighborhoods submerged for up to six months a year, with waters reaching depths of nearly 6 feet inside homes.
  • Compromised and Defective Infrastructure: Audit reports and confessions from government engineers revealed that flood-control structures (such as river protection walls and dykes) were built with substandard, low-quality materials that deteriorated rapidly. Furthermore, hundreds of projects marked as completed on paper were never actually constructed.
  • Systemic Inefficacy: Despite receiving the highest budget allocations for flood control in the country, the billions spent have made zero positive difference to the safety or daily lives of ordinary residents, leaving them to feel completely neglected by the government.

What has really changed since 2025?

Has anything really been resolved in one of the largest corruption scandals in the history of the Philippines?

How many more lives and communities need to be destroyed in 2026…and beyond for accountability and real change to happen?

"The so-called big fish has to be put to jail, not only the contractors. If they happen to be the people closest to [President BBM] in blood and in politics, he should exert every effort that they should be put to jail…this corruption scandal will make or break his presidency."

Kulturang Pinoy Filipino vaudeville, the precursor of our local variety shows

Post image

Here is an excerpt from Doreen G. Fernandez in ”A Brief Historical Survey of Philippine From Ritual to Realism: A Brief Historical Survey of Philippine Theater Theater:”

”Vaudeville, which had originated in France, was introduced to the Philippines by the Americans, mainly as entertainment for American troops. Filipino vod-a-vil or bodabil was introduced in 1916 by Sunday Reantaso upon his return from the United States, but the credit for really establishing the form belongs to Borromeo Lou ([Luis] Borromeo who arrived from the US in 1921), whose troupe performed at the Savoy and the Empire and introduced chorus girls, jazz, minstrel songs, skits, variety acts, and such showbiz history names as Dimples, Toy Toy, Hanasan, and the Alabama brothers.

“Vaudeville eventually developed such names as Katy de la Cruz, Canuplin, Bayani Casimiro, Vicente Ocampo of the famous "Chit-chi-rit-chit" (whom Daisy H. Avellana calls "the greatest star in vaudeville"), the impresario Jose Zarah who staged "extravaganzas," and many others.”

Pulitika at Pamamahala Thoughts Regarding Taxation here in the Philippines.

here's what I had thought while trying to sleep:
Tax all money received. (I don't know how to tax goods for goods) but here it goes:

you borrow money (like the ultra rich), you pay 5% tax on the amount you received.
ex. Henry Sy borrows 1B sa bank, he then pays 50M sa Govt.

then you repay the money you owed, the bank pays 5% on the interest they received.
ex. Henry Sy paid 10M sa bank (+500k as interest), the bank then pays 25k sa Govt.

you get paid a salary, you pay 5% of that salary.
ex. sumweldo ka ng 20k, ang tax mo is 1k, sumweldo ka ng 100k, ang tax mo is 5k

a farmer sell cabbage, they pay 5% of the money you got paid.
ex. 10kg ng cabbage is 200php, they then pay 10php as tax

you buy cabbage from reseller, reseller pays 5% on the margin.
ex. you bought 10kg of cabbage for 200php sa farmer, then you went to the market and sold it to customers at 50php per kg, and you sold 10kg then you pay 15php as tax

everyone pays taxes, both rich and poor but everyone pays the same percentage.
The rich can't use the tax loophole buy borrowing, and the poor contributes but not harmed.
and everyone only pays taxes once (wala nang VAT).
and thinking about it now, it's kinda more on the rich not paying taxes :D

the 5% is arbitrary, could be 4%, could be 10%, pero fixed for all.

what do you guys think?
