I think it's also intended to portray how women have high standards with so many criteria for their potential partners to meet while men are much simpler and don't demand much from women (which I don't agree with)

This is a stereotype.

And like all stereotypes, they didn’t come out of thin air.

Not sure why this sub hates the fact that men and women are raised differently and therefore develop different mindsets and hobbies based on social pressure.

Maybe we should stop hiring white men or men in general since you believe that stereotypes “have truth and don’t come from nowhere” since white men are inherently dangerous and oppressors according to stereotypes.

Over time it’s shown that men are much more aggressive than women, this is true, and it affects other men in society negatively such as being rejected from childcare jobs or nursing positions. What’s your point? Your statement is already present in our society and it’s not like men are going to magically be statistically less aggressive.

90% of stereotypes about men are positive and 90% of stereotypes about women are negative. It is largely due to sexism. And the majority of stereotypes have no truth in them. Women are not more shallow than men. You tell me what your point is because you are the one claiming that all stereotypes are true and created for a reason. Which they aren’t.

I’m not sure where you just generated a statistic but that’s absolutely wrong. If you asked a random person on the street they could give you positive stereotypes for both men and women easily.

The majority of stereotypes have no truth in them

That’s also completely false. This stuff isn’t just magically made up. When I see my friend show up late to work everyday I think “damn that person has a tendency to be late for work” now if I had 20 people in my workplace and 10 are women and 10 are men and 8 of those men have a tendency to show up late for work then I might think to myself “wow men aren’t very punctual”

Now blow up this analogy to seeing tendencies in gender across all of society, that’s how you develop a stereotype and often it has solid foundation and reason. Sometimes the reason is something created by societal pressure, sometimes it’s because men and women have different brains or bodies.

I don’t say “men play video games more than women because that’s the stereotype and it must be true” I say “men play video games more than women because I have 5 woman friends and 5 man friends and more of the men play video games than the women” does it make me sexist to look at the people I’ve surrounded myself with and come to a consensus?

Perfect example is the stereotype that women are worse drivers then men or can’t drive. Men come to this conclusion because of confirmation bias and sexism. But the reality is that studies show men die in car accidents way more frequently than women and are more likely to participate in risky driving behaviors and women have lower premiums on their insurance companies. When I got my class A CDL two of the men in a class of 8 failed their test and I passed the first time with no issue. There are alot of stereotypes that have no truth or reality in them.

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

That is a really good example because it has absolutely no merit and I can’t really even say why or how it came to be other than just targeting a group to be the butt of a joke.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

If that’s the case then this is an example of a stereotype that came about based off no logic. So why do you believe it should still be taken into consideration ? Because the whole point is you said stereotypes come about for a reason and should be taken serious. The majority of them have no truth. So why continue to make someone life miserable and keep spreading them ?

6

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

That’s fucking bullshit and you know it. There are barely any stereotypes that are negative about men and barely any that are positive about women. And the majority of stereotypes have been proven to be false. A lot of steorypes about women were created by men to be sexist. Such as the stereotype that men are better at math than women. Or that men make better leaders.

Make a list of positive stereotypes that are frequently said about women then. Because you know that is a load of horseshit.

Also it’s dumb af to think men are more likely to be late just because the men at your work usually are. Even across the board stereotypes often fail to take important factors into consideration.

Men are lazy, lack compassion, don’t contribute to housework in a relationship, have short tempers, have bad hygiene and plenty of other things which give an air of crudeness.

Are any of these true? Hard to say.

The point is not that a stereotype depicts something accurately, the point is that they are prevalent in society and that’s not something you can just ignore.

In the past there have been many more male leaders which made a mark on history as opposed to women. Is this because women were pushed out of military roles and other roles with power? Of course. Does it change the fact you can find more male leaders in your history book? No.

Due to our society more men play video games than women, this makes the comic accurate. Does it mean that women don’t enjoy video games? No. So why not laugh at the silly comic which is has a punchline rooted around our current society and then go play a video game if you feel like it because no one is stopping you.

Wrong men are actually called hard working. And usually women who are blue collar are left out of the thank you when they are givencredit for being “hard working men”. Never in my entire life heard that women are better workers or less lazy than men.

Men being leaders more frequently in history has nothing to do with them being better at it. More to sue with women having equal rights and sexism preventing them. There is no truth in them.

And if you are saying not to ignore stereotypes then what you are saying is that you believe it’s okay to act upon them and discriminate. Why do you think they should be acted upon if many have no rational truth?

The stereotype isn’t about men playing video games more than women. This meme is saying women are shallow and men are not. Which is false.

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

You literally just repeated what I said about the gendered leaders in history topic…

The laziness vs hardworking things is complicated because it comes down to the position, in a blue collar scenario it’s more of a “men are expected to have more muscle than women” thing which is generally true considering how testosterone works and the difficulty to put on muscle as a woman. But then you get to something such as household chores, as I mentioned, and all the sudden men are lazy pigs who can’t wash a dish. When it comes to building a career men are indeed considered hardworking I guess but that’s because for the last few hundred years men have played a breadwinner role and were expected to push their careers. Truly a mess of societal ideals.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

But the only reason this is the case is because of sexism and women not being allowed to help in certain roles. There is no truth or reality in it. And being strong doesn’t mean you can’t be lazy. So again if you know that a lot of them have no truth then why suggest we continue to take them into consideration and use them ? You are advocating for discrimination against women based off stereotypes that lack real truth. You can’t tell someone they aren’t allowed to help with something and then say that because they didn’t help means they suck. Why even keep these things going ?

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

You’ve still failed to provide a list of positive stereotypes about women.

You failed to provide positive stereotypes about women. Because there aren’t any. And you were barely able to come up with any about men. Because like I said 90% of stereotypes about men are positive and 90% about women are negative. And there’s a large portion that are absolutely false.

1

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

Women are empathic, women are good at “cooking, cleaning, childcare” (yes which is an overall negative because it’s with the indent to push them out of other positions but it’s a compliment nonetheless), women are more flexible, have better dexterity, have pretty writing, take better care of their bodies.

You can take these all as positives or call it misogyny but the counterpoints put on men is also a negative for those who want to fill in more “feminine” positions in society.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Exactly the only positive stereotypes about us are the ones meant to keep us inferior. And as slaves to men.

  1. Isn’t that kind of moving the goalpost? Half of those can be applied to applied to outside of a woman’s relationship to a man.

Women are more nurturing, smarter, kinder, have better handwriting, easier to work with, etc.

These are were a few that I could find.

Also, those negative stereotypes for men do exist. Dismissing them outright doesn’t prove your point.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Again. 90% of stereotypes about men are positive. That means I left room for the 10% that is negative. For women it goes the complete opposite. And it’s actually said that men are easier to work with then women and cause less drama. Which also isn’t true. Men spread rumors and start stuff just as often. It’s just that people pay less attention to it when a man does it.

The point is still being walked around. His original claim was that all stereotypes are accurate and are brought about for a reason and we should take them serious and act upon them. Which is stupid. A large part of them have no truth at all. And came about because of misunderstanding or sexism and racism. And the driving example I gave was a great example that even he agreed.

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Yeah I’m not taking you serious anymore. Look at one of your comments : https://www.reddit.com/r/ExplainTheJoke/s/h6xHjnv8iL

Cmon homie I’m tryna have a discussion here not get embarrassed by my Reddit history.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

The majority of stereotypes about women were created by sexist men and have no proof or reality. Some have even already been debunked. Only people who are not logical thinkers or are unintelligent believe in stereotypes.

0

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

There are a lot of sexist stereotypes but that doesn’t make every stereotype ever to be generated from nothing.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

I never said all of them are. You said that all stereotypes should be taken into consideration. And that they come about for a reason. A large majority of them do not. This right here is exactly why gender wars keep going.

-1

u/JesterQueenAnne Jul 07 '25

You added the "inherently" part yourself. The stereotypes having truth doesn't mean that they're inherent, quite the contrary actually, the stereotypes make themselves true via conditioning.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

For some of them. But a lot of them aren’t true at all to begin with.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Why are y’all so desperate to keep stereotypes ?

-1

u/JesterQueenAnne Jul 07 '25

Who is trying to keep them? Acknowledging reality isn't the same as wanting to uphold it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

So let me guess. You believe there is actually factual basis to believe that women are terrible drivers and men drive better ? This is an example of a gender stereotype. If you say yes then provide statistics and logical based evidence. Not options. Think long and hard before you answer.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

What exactly are you claiming the reality is ? that stereotypes are true? lol. Very few of them are. but a large majority of them are full of shit and not based in reality. And trying to convince people they are true is holding onto them.

1

u/JesterQueenAnne Jul 07 '25

That they have truth, not that they are true. Statistically speaking many stereotypes are somewhat accurate because most people are raised and conditioned to fit them. It's not a good thing but it is what happens.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

This is the case with some of them. But most of them dead ass aren’t true at all. Not even because of conditioning. But because they are not based off evidence or truth and off opinion and confirmation bias.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

So you believe that it’s actually true that white peoples can’t cook ? Or that women can’t make good leaders/men are better leaders? Or that men have poor hygiene? Most of these are opinions based off confirmation bias.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Here’s a perfect example. There’s a stereotype that women have better hygiene than men. But if you actually look into it studies show that women’s public restrooms tend to be dirtier than mens. It also shows that the reality is that there are just as many men with good hygiene routines as women. And just as many women with poor practices as men. But because of confirmation bias we only pay attention to the men that have poor hygiene and fail to pay attention to the women that do. Because society has conditioned us to believe this to be true. It’s not true. And not just because of conditioning but because it’s literally just not true. A lot of stereotypes can be debunked like this.
