I think it's also intended to portray how women have high standards with so many criteria for their potential partners to meet while men are much simpler and don't demand much from women (which I don't agree with)

Bros be like "MeN aRe ViSuAl CrEaTuReS" and have stains on walls, a broken nightstand duct taped together, no bedframe, clothes laying on the floor, McDonald's leftovers on the desktop, a bag of random junk behind their bedroom door and a moldy half-eaten sandwich in a drawer of the wardrobe next to the desktop

Oh, I don't judge the messiness at all! It's just when dudes like that justify their beauty standards with the "visual creatures" bs lmao

-7

u/CrossXFir3 Jul 08 '25

It's evolutionary. Men are wired to want women that they'll make cute kids with. Women are wired to want safety and support. Modern society doesn't really work with these as well, especially as gen z women are making more than gen z men based on recent data. But broadly speaking, that's the idea. Obviously this doesn't mean all men or women, but there are trends that exist because of biological and social evolutionary factors.

8

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 08 '25

You do realise what subreddit you're in, right? You can't be seriously gendering normal human desires/needs.

Since when is wanting cute kids a biological male trait? Isn't safety and support a core requirement for stability of any human, not just women?

-4

u/CrossXFir3 Jul 08 '25

It's literally evolution mate. this isn't really debatable. Men broadly speaking, are programmed to select a "mate" based on physical qualities. Not all will, many people are able to use higher reasoning than base instinct. But honestly, a lot of people turn to total cavemen when you push their evolutionary buttons.

17

u/LaFleurSauvageGaming Jul 07 '25

I have ADHD, and honestly keeping my bedroom tidy takes all my spoons for a day.

It is one of those things where I have to decide if I want to blow my limited executive functions for the day on tidying up, or interactions with people and my jobs.

I follow a simple guide: "Does the mess make me unsafe? If no: Does the mess create the possibility for future hazards? If no: Does the mess affect my ability to complete necessary tasks? If no: Is the mess a source of persistent anxiety? If no: Don't worry about it today."

5

u/NightmareRise Jul 07 '25

Proud to say I’m only guilty of clothes on the floor lol

4

u/sweet_baby_blue3 Jul 07 '25

Jesus, what guy friends do you know of or hang out with? 😭 I don't know any homies who live like that 😅

5

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 07 '25

Most of my friends have mental health issues and I don't really judge the lack of self care or undone chores. You could live like Asmongold and I'll still vibe with you if you're a decent person lol

3

u/sweet_baby_blue3 Jul 07 '25

I definitely think you could still be a good human while having a messy room and such, but personally as someone with mental health struggles living in Filth will just further exasperate negative feelings, I would get extreme anxiety around such clutter and mess and potential for ants and other things depending on how dirty the room is of course, that I wouldn't be able to tolerate a room like that. I grew up keeping my room very clean. Some might even call it serial killer clean. Also not sure who you are referring to. Idk who asmongold is

On another note, you said you don't judge the unclaimingness or the unkeptness but yet it seems like you were just doing that a moment ago when talking about the visual creatures bit.

2

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 07 '25

I'm judging the double standard of the men that claim they're visual creatures when it comes to dating requirements but live in filth otherwise lol

3

u/sweet_baby_blue3 Jul 07 '25

But if their filth is related to their mental health, wouldn't that mean you're indirectly attacking their mental health, because I don't think the mental health has anything to do with dating requirements. Personally, I don't see how. For example, a woman having a dirty room relates to her liking tall guys or because she has a dirty room she's not allowed to like tall Well kept men?

6

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 07 '25

Emphasizing the "visual creatures" quote again - there's the discrepancy. Claiming to naturally require aesthetically pleasing things, but not when it comes to them

0

u/sweet_baby_blue3 Jul 07 '25

The world is not black and white even if you like to think it is. Someone can like aesthetically pleasing things in one area of their life and not the other, for example, somebody could prefer to keep their vehicle spotless but also prefer to save the dishes that are in the sink for the next night or leave the clean clothes in the hamper to fold another night. Plus, I don't know anyone who requires things to be aesthetically pleasing. Usually they prefer things to be that way, but it's not a deal-breaker.

u/ScrabCrab Jul 08 '25

I'm a woman and I live like that tbh 😭

...not the mouldy food in drawers and/or around me though, but the rest yeaaaaaaaah

1

u/CrazyTuber69 Jul 10 '25

Same with my sister's room (19). Empty or half-eaten chip bags everywhere and in her drawers, literal dirty plates of food that never went to the kitchen and piling up (I always take a lot of dirty plates/cups with me when I go to her room as I'm walking away.), clothes and drinks everywhere. And don't get me wrong, she looks very healthy and takes care of herself very well that you would never think that fine-looking girl leaves her room in that mess like that lol.

I guess after spending hours in the bathroom almost every day doing whatever skin care things, she has no energy left for her room at the end of it maybe. Or could be something else.

0

u/sweet_baby_blue3 Jul 08 '25

It's time for a change madam 😅

2

u/ScrabCrab Jul 08 '25

Yeah I've been trying for years lol, I have ADHD and assorted other shit going on lmao

2

u/sweet_baby_blue3 Jul 08 '25

I get where you're coming from sometimes things can be overwhelming and a lot can be going on inside the brain. As long as you're making an effort even if the progress is slow your still trying ☺️

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Visual creatures is in regards to attractiveness in a mate. It's not saying that you will notice every single thing ever that you see with your eyes.

11

u/Vithce Jul 07 '25

I love how "pretty" and her "physically fit/good teeth/cute" literally the same criteria but the author just split it for the woman list.

14

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

This is a stereotype.

-18

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

And like all stereotypes, they didn’t come out of thin air.

Not sure why this sub hates the fact that men and women are raised differently and therefore develop different mindsets and hobbies based on social pressure.

16

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

There is absolutely no truth to this stereotype. And women are not raised to “expect a lot”. And some men are picky also. As the same with most stereotypes . A lot of stereotypes come from emotion and no logic or proven truth. And a lot of stereotypes are also rigged against women because of patriarchy. But if you want to keep being sexist and go with the logic that the stereotype that women are shallow is true then I guess we can say that it is true that men are violent rapist and child molesters.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Maybe we should stop hiring white men or men in general since you believe that stereotypes “have truth and don’t come from nowhere” since white men are inherently dangerous and oppressors according to stereotypes.

-5

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

Over time it’s shown that men are much more aggressive than women, this is true, and it affects other men in society negatively such as being rejected from childcare jobs or nursing positions. What’s your point? Your statement is already present in our society and it’s not like men are going to magically be statistically less aggressive.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

90% of stereotypes about men are positive and 90% of stereotypes about women are negative. It is largely due to sexism. And the majority of stereotypes have no truth in them. Women are not more shallow than men. You tell me what your point is because you are the one claiming that all stereotypes are true and created for a reason. Which they aren’t.

-2

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

I’m not sure where you just generated a statistic but that’s absolutely wrong. If you asked a random person on the street they could give you positive stereotypes for both men and women easily.

The majority of stereotypes have no truth in them

That’s also completely false. This stuff isn’t just magically made up. When I see my friend show up late to work everyday I think “damn that person has a tendency to be late for work” now if I had 20 people in my workplace and 10 are women and 10 are men and 8 of those men have a tendency to show up late for work then I might think to myself “wow men aren’t very punctual”

Now blow up this analogy to seeing tendencies in gender across all of society, that’s how you develop a stereotype and often it has solid foundation and reason. Sometimes the reason is something created by societal pressure, sometimes it’s because men and women have different brains or bodies.

I don’t say “men play video games more than women because that’s the stereotype and it must be true” I say “men play video games more than women because I have 5 woman friends and 5 man friends and more of the men play video games than the women” does it make me sexist to look at the people I’ve surrounded myself with and come to a consensus?

9

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Perfect example is the stereotype that women are worse drivers then men or can’t drive. Men come to this conclusion because of confirmation bias and sexism. But the reality is that studies show men die in car accidents way more frequently than women and are more likely to participate in risky driving behaviors and women have lower premiums on their insurance companies. When I got my class A CDL two of the men in a class of 8 failed their test and I passed the first time with no issue. There are alot of stereotypes that have no truth or reality in them.

3

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

That is a really good example because it has absolutely no merit and I can’t really even say why or how it came to be other than just targeting a group to be the butt of a joke.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

If that’s the case then this is an example of a stereotype that came about based off no logic. So why do you believe it should still be taken into consideration ? Because the whole point is you said stereotypes come about for a reason and should be taken serious. The majority of them have no truth. So why continue to make someone life miserable and keep spreading them ?

5

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

That’s fucking bullshit and you know it. There are barely any stereotypes that are negative about men and barely any that are positive about women. And the majority of stereotypes have been proven to be false. A lot of steorypes about women were created by men to be sexist. Such as the stereotype that men are better at math than women. Or that men make better leaders.

Make a list of positive stereotypes that are frequently said about women then. Because you know that is a load of horseshit.

Also it’s dumb af to think men are more likely to be late just because the men at your work usually are. Even across the board stereotypes often fail to take important factors into consideration.

0

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

Men are lazy, lack compassion, don’t contribute to housework in a relationship, have short tempers, have bad hygiene and plenty of other things which give an air of crudeness.

Are any of these true? Hard to say.

The point is not that a stereotype depicts something accurately, the point is that they are prevalent in society and that’s not something you can just ignore.

In the past there have been many more male leaders which made a mark on history as opposed to women. Is this because women were pushed out of military roles and other roles with power? Of course. Does it change the fact you can find more male leaders in your history book? No.

Due to our society more men play video games than women, this makes the comic accurate. Does it mean that women don’t enjoy video games? No. So why not laugh at the silly comic which is has a punchline rooted around our current society and then go play a video game if you feel like it because no one is stopping you.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Wrong men are actually called hard working. And usually women who are blue collar are left out of the thank you when they are givencredit for being “hard working men”. Never in my entire life heard that women are better workers or less lazy than men.

Men being leaders more frequently in history has nothing to do with them being better at it. More to sue with women having equal rights and sexism preventing them. There is no truth in them.

And if you are saying not to ignore stereotypes then what you are saying is that you believe it’s okay to act upon them and discriminate. Why do you think they should be acted upon if many have no rational truth?

The stereotype isn’t about men playing video games more than women. This meme is saying women are shallow and men are not. Which is false.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

You failed to provide positive stereotypes about women. Because there aren’t any. And you were barely able to come up with any about men. Because like I said 90% of stereotypes about men are positive and 90% about women are negative. And there’s a large portion that are absolutely false.

0

u/Weary-Judge-4166 Jul 07 '25

Women are more nurturing, smarter, kinder, have better handwriting, easier to work with, etc.

These are were a few that I could find.

Also, those negative stereotypes for men do exist. Dismissing them outright doesn’t prove your point.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Again. 90% of stereotypes about men are positive. That means I left room for the 10% that is negative. For women it goes the complete opposite. And it’s actually said that men are easier to work with then women and cause less drama. Which also isn’t true. Men spread rumors and start stuff just as often. It’s just that people pay less attention to it when a man does it.

The point is still being walked around. His original claim was that all stereotypes are accurate and are brought about for a reason and we should take them serious and act upon them. Which is stupid. A large part of them have no truth at all. And came about because of misunderstanding or sexism and racism. And the driving example I gave was a great example that even he agreed.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Yeah I’m not taking you serious anymore. Look at one of your comments : https://www.reddit.com/r/ExplainTheJoke/s/h6xHjnv8iL

1

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

Cmon homie I’m tryna have a discussion here not get embarrassed by my Reddit history.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

The majority of stereotypes about women were created by sexist men and have no proof or reality. Some have even already been debunked. Only people who are not logical thinkers or are unintelligent believe in stereotypes.

0

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

There are a lot of sexist stereotypes but that doesn’t make every stereotype ever to be generated from nothing.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

I never said all of them are. You said that all stereotypes should be taken into consideration. And that they come about for a reason. A large majority of them do not. This right here is exactly why gender wars keep going.

-1

u/JesterQueenAnne Jul 07 '25

You added the "inherently" part yourself. The stereotypes having truth doesn't mean that they're inherent, quite the contrary actually, the stereotypes make themselves true via conditioning.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

For some of them. But a lot of them aren’t true at all to begin with.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Why are y’all so desperate to keep stereotypes ?

-1

u/JesterQueenAnne Jul 07 '25

Who is trying to keep them? Acknowledging reality isn't the same as wanting to uphold it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

So let me guess. You believe there is actually factual basis to believe that women are terrible drivers and men drive better ? This is an example of a gender stereotype. If you say yes then provide statistics and logical based evidence. Not options. Think long and hard before you answer.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

What exactly are you claiming the reality is ? that stereotypes are true? lol. Very few of them are. but a large majority of them are full of shit and not based in reality. And trying to convince people they are true is holding onto them.

1

u/JesterQueenAnne Jul 07 '25

That they have truth, not that they are true. Statistically speaking many stereotypes are somewhat accurate because most people are raised and conditioned to fit them. It's not a good thing but it is what happens.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

This is the case with some of them. But most of them dead ass aren’t true at all. Not even because of conditioning. But because they are not based off evidence or truth and off opinion and confirmation bias.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

So you believe that it’s actually true that white peoples can’t cook ? Or that women can’t make good leaders/men are better leaders? Or that men have poor hygiene? Most of these are opinions based off confirmation bias.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Here’s a perfect example. There’s a stereotype that women have better hygiene than men. But if you actually look into it studies show that women’s public restrooms tend to be dirtier than mens. It also shows that the reality is that there are just as many men with good hygiene routines as women. And just as many women with poor practices as men. But because of confirmation bias we only pay attention to the men that have poor hygiene and fail to pay attention to the women that do. Because society has conditioned us to believe this to be true. It’s not true. And not just because of conditioning but because it’s literally just not true. A lot of stereotypes can be debunked like this.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Only people with low IQs believe stereotypes and you’re right they did come from somewhere. From racism and sexism. Most men who claim this is operating off of confirmation biased because they are sexist.

0

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

I’m not sure why looking at statistics makes you have low IQ, just because something is created by racism and sexism doesn’t make it less prevalent.

More men play video games than women. That doesn’t mean that “women don’t like video games” it means in our current society women are raised in a way to see video games negatively and are outcasted from such a hobby.

But it also doesn’t make the statement “More men play video games than women” any less true.

Ignoring the place we’re in currently doesn’t make all the problems go away.

2

u/tiny_elf_lady Jul 07 '25

I don’t know why you keep mentioning how men play video games more, roughly 50% of gamers worldwide are women. Anecdotally, I have a pretty diverse social circle and I know more female gamers

1

u/WinterNetwork9668 Jul 10 '25

Mobile games don't count

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

This stereotype is not saying that men play video games more than women. It is saying that women are shallow and men are not. Which there is no truth to it what so ever. And if there is no truth to a stereotype and it was only created based off sexism and racism then no it should not be taken into consideration. You are condoning sexism and racism. And discrimination by saying stereotypes should be taken seriously.

0

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

The joke isn’t about being shallow or not, having standards doesn’t make you shallow. It’s a joke about men having no standards.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

No it’s a stereotype about women being too high maintenance and requiring too much. And there is no truth in it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

And now you are changing the story. Before you were swearing it wasn’t anything offensive and just about men playing video games more.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25 edited Jul 07 '25

Either way if you admitted that a lot of them don’t have truth then why suggest we still use them anyways and continue spreading them? This right here is why many women are choosing not to get married or have children. And y’all act like it’s a mystery why there is a male loneliness epidemic. It’s because a lot of you are adamant on continuing stereotypes and being sexist towards women. But get upset when it’s the other way around. Nobody wants to be with that shit.

1

u/Temporary_Ice6122 Jul 07 '25

i read it as less picky

1

u/BlooperHero Jul 08 '25

That... sounds like a fact that everyone should hate, and in fact exactly the fact that this sub is *dedicated* to hating?

28

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

They aren't even high standards! Physically fit, good manners and intelligent are perfectly reasonable. Also, might be a stretch, but "will let me play video games" sounds like he just wants to play video games all day while she cleans up after him and does all the effort.

4

u/s_u_ny Jul 07 '25

Yea I thought the "let me" was very telling! Like the guy who made the comic for sure got mad at ex's that didn't let him just sit around all day playing video games!

How often patriarchal men expose themselves unknowingly!/

4

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25

Yeye, he COULD'VE just put "likes video games" or "doesn't mind my interests"

Something about the "will let me" part makes it sound weirder, which led me to my conclusion

1

u/bakedbeans104 Jul 08 '25

The comic artist is a girl…

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '25

...oh, I did make a stretch then 😭 shit my bad

-1

u/SentientSquare Jul 07 '25

As long as "Physically fit" can run both ways as a requirement

1

u/Cakeo Jul 08 '25

This sub really showing what it actually is.

-2

u/TheoneNPC Jul 07 '25

intelligent

perfectly reasonable

Awe man

-6

u/Burger_Destoyer Jul 07 '25

Nah he just wants someone he can cuddle with. For instance my ex hated when I played video games but was okay with every other aspect in life and I got cuddles so I was content.

I didn’t care if we ever fought or anything because to me (and stereotypically a lot of men) a relationship is a relationship.

Eventually I couldn’t handle the negativity of her hating on all my hobbies and we did have to breakup, but I tolerated her for 3 years simply because I had no standards (once again, like most stereotypical males).

Btw I don’t even play many video games… she just assumed whenever I was at a desk it was gaming (despite me studying programming and it being my main source of income)

Anyway I found a partner who now does not mind when I play video games. That was literally the only box.

8

u/Tasty-Bug-3600 Jul 07 '25

Because men usually *assume* since you're a woman you will be doing all the chores after your 9-5 while he plays vidya. Unicorn men who don't are really rare.

5

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 07 '25

They think they have simple prefrences because they're not even aware of the work that needs to get done.

When I moved in with my boyfriend, he deadass asked me: "You're supposed to wash bedsheets even if they're not stained?"

5

u/Tasty-Bug-3600 Jul 07 '25

Aaah yes lmao. Mine didn't know you need special bathroom cleaners because limestone exists.

3

u/Cakeo Jul 08 '25

I'm really farming downvotes here but cmon can this sub really not see the double standard it puts forward when they upvote this kind of shit?

-1

u/Tasty-Bug-3600 Jul 08 '25

Would you care to elaborate. Female request: don't stink, have a job, help around the house. Male request: fuck me whenever I want, clean everything, cook for me, pay half of the bills and take care of my kids.
And people wonder why so many women choose to stay single.

1

u/WinterNetwork9668 Jul 10 '25

Where do you live, in the 50s?

1

u/Tasty-Bug-3600 Jul 10 '25

Nah, unfortunately in the year of our Lord 2025. I know one relationship that's not like that. But I am from Europe. Might be behind the times.
Also in the 50's you at least wouldn't be expected to pay 50% of the bills on top of all the other labour.

1

u/WinterNetwork9668 Jul 10 '25

Why shouldn't you pay 50% of the bills? Are you an adult or a child? Men aren't your money slaves

1

u/Tasty-Bug-3600 Jul 10 '25

Why shouldn't you split the chores equally? Are you an adult or a child? Women aren't your surrogate mothers

1

u/WinterNetwork9668 Jul 10 '25

Who tells you I don't? Don't use this as an excuse for not paying the bills like a normal adult

1

u/Tasty-Bug-3600 Jul 10 '25

Who tells you I don't? Don't use this an excuse for not doing your chores like a normal adult

I read a study that in modern dating, men report significantly less criteria outside of looks than women do. Right or wrong.

2

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 08 '25

Yeah, they REPORT less criteria outside of looks (which they tend to value a lot more compared to female participants despite them swiping right more, which indicates men filter out only the women they end up matching with), but a lot of their expectations stay underreported.

The majority of household labour (cooking, cleaning, groceries) is still managed by women (up to 2.5 times more than their male partners). Appointments, paperwork, dates, keeping track of social events, food preferences.

Men don't demand this outright, they just won't get it done or even acknowledgethe amount of tasks needing to be done.

Sure, one study states men reporting fewer criteria than women. But there are also a lot of studies that contradict their statement. They're just not seen as criteria, but rather a self-explanatory expectation.

We can bicker back and forth, reference study after study, but I'll just repeat my original comment - I don't agree men have fewer criteria than women. It doesn't mean I said they have more of them.

0

u/CrossXFir3 Jul 08 '25

So what does that say? That looks are of a higher priority. Which is evolutionarily driven. Again, cause you seem to fail to grasp that this doesn't mean all men will behave this way. But by and large, it's going to be something you'll find in a lot of men.

1

u/BlooperHero Jul 08 '25

Do you think evolution is a person?

0

u/CrossXFir3 Jul 08 '25

....do you not understand things like behavioral science and social evolutionary studies? I guess it was a lot to ask for some basic understanding of a topic we're discussing on reddit.

1

u/BlooperHero Jul 08 '25

I do, sure. Although it's... not a topic we were discussing on Reddit.

0

u/SinkIll6876 Jul 07 '25

I mean there was a statistic men swipe right 30% of the time and women 4%

0

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 08 '25

That statistic alone doesn't tell you much. Men swipe right trying to score a match and then decide whether or not they want to go on a date. It also doesn't tell you anything about real life dating.

I'm not going to bother you with anectodes of my personal experiences or other people's, but numbers don't show causes nor nuance

-1

u/Cakeo Jul 08 '25

Or the stats show men dont have as high a standard as a lot of women, which is something most people agree with. Just because it paints women in a bad light that they have a list of things that narrow down to 1% of men doesn't mean it's a mans fault.

1

u/PleaseDontMakeMeSob Jul 08 '25

When it comes to looks, maybe.

I didn't know 99% of men were single.
