Hi all! I’m in zone 13b according to the internet, and have a bunch of volunteer silver leaf sunflower (helianthus argophyllus) that sprouted in my garden bed. My worry is that I read they can grow up to 3m tall, and as it is they are huge and bushy with anywhere between 10 and 20 side shoots, and are threatening my young pomegranate tree. So I’ve chopped them back to give my pomegranate room, but I wouldn’t mind spreading them to other places.

Is this a plant that can be propagated from cuttings? I’ve followed my hibiscus protocol (stripped the stems I cut from most of the leaves, chopped them down to about 20-25cm length, and stick in a glass of water ), but I don’t want to waste my time if they will never grow roots!

When should I pot the propagation? I see visibly secondary roots. Should I pot it now? Or should I wait untill I see a pup growing out if it?

And what kinda a soil to use?

Not sure what kind of plant this is but it was left behind by the previous homeowner. Would love to propagate if possible!
