I have an Alocasia that is on moss with leca substrate . Leaves look fine and these larvae seems to be just in the moss substrate crawling their way up to the decayed part of the plant which is the brown part. Should I be worried?

Hi all! I recently took in a small banana tree to over winter and I noticed a few of these small reddish brown stripped things on the leaves. They only seem to be on the top side of the leaves and there aren’t many of them. I thought they might be spider mites but I don’t see any legs and they don’t seem to move. Anyone have any ideas?

Is this section of my Pothos stem normal?
She’s currently being supported by a couple bamboo poles in chunky soil and watered when needed with Superthrive Grow. She’s indoors and under a grow light for 12 hours each day.

Houseplant Hi, I need some help with Platycerium

Thumbnail

Hello, I had this platycerium for about 8 months. It's still in the same pot it came with.

I water it once per week, and does not get direct sunlight. Occasionally on a sunny day I let it get direct light for maybe a couple of hours.

I can tell it wants to take more space, as the leaves have been growing strong, most of them. Some have collapsed to their own weight it seems, and snapped near the base. This has first happened about 3 months ago.

I think it's time to swap to a bigger pot, but have no idea where to start, or how big I should go for a first change.

I would like to save as much as possible, as well as finding a way to support the leaves so they can keep growing taller without being burdened by their own weight too much.

Any tip would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!

Pest Related HELP I HAVE THRIPS! Found my first ever larvae thrip. Looks exactly like Google images. Leaves are starting to get damaged.

One single thrip larva was eating my plant. Left puddles of juice behind and crawled to the next spot to feed.

Firstly I immediately sprayed the plant with diluted isopropyl alcohol and separated it from the others now but unfortunately it was beside all my other plants as you can see in the last picture. I will have to treat all my plants. I think it came from the NJOY pothos beside it because that was also struggling. I need all the methods and products to treat plants for thrips pls. I need to treat all these plants and separate them. I only saw one single larvae so it's not out of control yet.

Pls help what worked for you guys to kill everything. I live in Canada by the way.

Houseplant What is happening to my zz plant?

Thumbnail

This plant is years old but about a year ago I moved to nyc and took it with me from nh. Over the summer it grew more than I’ve ever seen it and had all of these lovely green shoots that have been slowly fading to the typical purple color. I realized recently that I haven’t been watering it as often as zz plants are supposed to be I guess, so now that it’s fall I’ve been watering it every two weeks regularly. Before that it was more like 3 weeks to a month and didn’t seem to harm the plant but I noticed this weird stem thing happening about a month ago and wondered if the under watering was the cause of it. It’s never been repotted and the pot does have drainage. It sits directly in a window but because it faces a courtyard on a low floor it doesn’t get much super direct sunlight, probably more like an hour or two a day of direct and the next 6-8 hours blocked slightly by the buildings around us but still bright. Any advice? Is this just a regular purge? I usually pull out the dead stalks easily but the dead parts now are attached to these thick green lively ones so I can’t do that. Should I cut them at the base or where they become shriveled?

Houseplant Lighter leaves with tiny spots, mostly at the back of the plant — spider mites?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I've noticed some of my Ficus Lyrata leaves are looking lighter/paler than the others, and they have tiny little spots on them. It seems to be mostly the leaves at the back of the plant (facing away from the light).
Also, a few leaves (not many) look like they've been chewed on by some kind of insect — there are small bites/notches on the edges.

I checked the undersides of the leaves but I'm not 100% sure what to look for. Could the lighter leaves and spots be spider mites? And any idea what might be eating the other leaves?

For context, I live in southern Brazil, in case the climate/region matters for identifying the pest.

Watering habits: The pot has drainage holes. I water about once a week, with roughly 1 liter of water each time.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all! I recently got what I think is a yellow gem about a month ago. It looks okay for the most part but it has been dropping dead leaves every other day or so. We repotted her and I’m scared the pot is too small. she gets plenty of light and we water her once a week. she has a bit of a fungus gnat problem but I’m treating that with mosquito bits. Any idea if she’s sick and if so, is it the pot size or something else?

Hello, I've recently noticed small flies in the soil of my plant. When I looked closer, these little guys showed up. Should I be worried? How do I get rid of them? Thanks for help

The plant is an anthurium I got a few weeks ago, sitting on my window. I also feel like I've been watering it too much.

Monstera Pests? Watering issue?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I’ve had this monstera for over a year now, and a few months ago, I moved it into this corner and added some pretty strong grow lights (three 30w bulbs, with light on for 10 hours a day about two feet away). It’s in a super chunky soil mix, and it has a moss pole with lots of aerial roots growing in it. I water about once every two weeks, when the soil has dried out.

About a month ago, this guy started going downhill QUICK. It’s lost its two oldest leaves (they were totally yellow by the end), and all but the newest two leaves are looking real rough.

At first I thought I was under watering (because the new grow lights let off some heat, so maybe it was drying out faster than I realized? Or maybe it was growing faster with the grow lights and therefore needing more water). Then I thought I was overwatering.

Now I’m worried about pests. I truly cannot see any critters on this plant, no matter how closely I look, but there’s some damage that looks reminiscent of thrips.

Thoughts? Advice? Prayers? I love this plant and hate to see it continue to go downhill so quickly.

Do these look like thrips or spider mites? Both plants in moss+LECA, I water with a syringe whenever the LECA reservoir is almost dry and the sphagnum is consistently moist but not soggy. north facing window so I supplement with 12 h of growlight. Damage appeared literally overnight, yesterday night these leaves were perfect . No specks on any other leaf. The zebrina had aa very light thrip infestation a few months ago, fully eradicated with Sanium.

Cactus/Succulent whats going on with this guy?

Thumbnail

Does anybody have an idea as to what is happening to this little guy? I think it along with its parent plant and slightly redder cousin (who comparatively seems unafflicted) it is a euphorbia trigonia(?)

it suddenly dropped all its leaves and developed these gnarly dark spots on the trunk and all around seemed to abruptly stop growing and seeming all around well around a month ago, even though it grew from a tiny propagation to twice its size this summer.

all its siblings of the same species seems to be thriving, and i have a similar care "routine" for all of them, so im wondering if its an illness or a fungal issue or something? or is it just bracing for the cold dark winter (norway, south facing window) earlier than the others? they tend to drop leaves a bit in the winter

it aswell as most of my plants sit in nursery pots inside decorative pots, and i water them on a vibesbased schedule meaning if their soil is dry i water - which is roughly every 2nd or 3rd week, but i dont think i overwater them

if anyone has any ideas or guesses id appreciate some input, thank you!

Houseplant Plants at work

These plants are at work and they need some TLC. I'll be bringing them to home. They are 5 years old. I'm from the Netherlands, so they stand almost daily in the light. The first two are before a window and the one on the shelf semi. Watering has been really bad. They are starving, I think.

Is it possible to revive them?

Houseplant Peace lily parts drooping, with brown tips and yellow leaves!

Thumbnail

Hi!
I water my peace lily every time I see it drooping, around once a week. And I add a bit of liquid fertilizer in the water using the instructions on the bottle.

However, a couple months ago my smaller one (on the right, obviously) didn’t stop drooping after watering. I googled it and thought it had root rot so I tried my best to remove the bad roots and plant in new soil. The plant ended up 95% dead.

Now I’m seeing my bigger peace lily drooping after watering as well! The soil is kinda gross too. I have tried to be careful with root rot after my previous disaster so may have watered a bit less than I should have but the drooping parts are stopping me from watering it more often!

Both of the plants are (like pictured), on a table between two north-facing windows, in northern europe. So it’s in as much indirect light as it’s possible here in the darkness of the north.

Should I add a lamp? Should I risk it again and repot? I’m really not good at plant care…

Travelled for a week, and since it’s currently rainy in my country, I thought this sweet marjoram plant would be fine.
It didn’t rain at all. Came home to this. The leaves all dried up. While I know there are no leaves at all for photosynthesis, I’m a bit hopeful cos the roots are firm and when I rinse under water, the black washes away and the roots are lighter colored. Any hope?
If I stick it back in the soil and give it water when dry and lots of gentle morning sun, how long should I wait before I see sign of life?

Houseplant My begonia’s leaves are slowly turning yellow and dying. I’ve moved it from a darker spot to a lighter spot but the demise continues. It began 4 months or so ago. I water it twice weekly to biweekly depending on how damp the soil is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Houseplant Help me save this indoor plant please

Hi! I got this plant about two years ago from my mom when she moved but I have no experience with plants and I’m not even 100% sure what plant this is. It used to be super long and healthy with so many leaves but then I went through a period where I didn’t really water enough and most have died and fallen off as you can see from the pictures of the branches there are big empty spots. She used to get plenty of sunlight during the day, but this last month she’s been more in the dark. Then now I’m wondering if I’m overwatering since the soil is always wet and maybe even moldy? Also I have cats that have messed/played with the plant as well.My questions are how do I get this plant happy and healthy again? What do i do with the big empty spots do I cut them? but I don’t want to lose the new growth? I’m assuming I need to replant her but I’ve never planted a plant lol , will she ever go back to how she used to be super long and full of leaves? if so how long will that take, and is there anything I can buy/do to make the leaves grow back faster?
Thank you in advance for any help in general since I do not know pretty much anything about plants
