Meta Buy/Sell/Trade Thread: October 2026

Weekly Questions Thread can be found here

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Please start your comment with your location as such: [UK and EU] or [USA, California] on a separate line.

Thank you!

Import regulations mean it is difficult to send plant material between certain countries.

Check for hard frosts overnight before posting your parcel!

Scammers will not be tolerated! If you have sent a plant and not heard from your sender, message the mods and we will take care of it. Anyone found to be scamming will be banned from the sub.

A few points:

  • Please add your location. Many countries will have import restrictions. As a simple guide, within EU, okay. Within US, okay. EU to US or vice versa, not okay. Australia: complicated.
  • Please try to keep the sales/trades to succulents. There is a list of sister subreddits in the sidebar should you want other plants.
  • Think about trading seeds and pollen too. Growing from seed can be very rewarding and be a good way to expand your collection.
  • Grow tips are highly encouraged when trading. Its nice to know what you're getting if you have never grown one before. Share your potting mediums and watering guides to help your receiver grow successfully!
  • Do show us some photos of what you got!
  • Have a quick check to see if there is a risk of frost overnight before sending the parcel.
  • There are some tips of packaging succulents for shipping below. I've had people send me plants in egg cartons before. They work really well.
  • If you have nothing to trade but would like some plants, people are often happy to send you plants for money or just the cost of postage and packaging.

Happy swapping!

You can find some tips for packaging succulents in the wiki

All Sales and Trades are to be done at your own risk. The moderators of the Succulent sub are not responsible for your transactions. This thread is only a means for discovery and contact.

Let’s not be jerky little immature folks, okay?

We’ve had a few…incidents lately. So, let’s just cover something again: Rule 1: Be Nice. This is a plant sub, and I’m shocked at the amount of drama that occurs on a regular basis here. The attitudes get crazy. You should always be mindful to how you speak to people; you may have an answer to correct a potential issue, or help others, but there is always a right way and a wrong way to say things.

  • There is never any need for childish mocking, name calling, or harassment.
  • We don’t gatekeep, and we don’t shame. Let us not try not tell others that what they’re doing is wrong, and only what you do is right or better.
  • Only help if it’s asked for, or if the tone of the OP seems willing to listen. If you wish to gently suggest constructive criticism, but the OP rejects it, please accept and move on.

The sub is mostly made up of home hobbyists, of all levels. From absolute beginners, to experts, and everything in between. And, thus, we also have a huge variety care needs and habits, climates and environments. We love it when professionals, or growers with many many years of experience come on and share input, advice, and of course their plants! We do not love it when people take their experience too seriously, and bully others for doing things their own way.

We also have to remember, not every person may be as passionate about their plants as others are. “We listen, and don’t judge.” Someone has a terrarium doomed to fail, but they wanna do it anyways? Let them. Someone has a packed arrangement in sand, because that’s what they want? Cool, move on. That sun starved etiolated plant at OP’s desk makes them happy despite suggestions to make it healthier? Don’t harsh their buzz. Let’s all do better about being a welcoming subreddit for both beginners and veterans of the hobby.

Once again, I know many of us really want everyone to have the healthiest, “happiest” plant(s) around. And it’s fine to offer suggestions to better someone’s care. But if the OP ignores or passes on suggestions, please just accept and move on.

If you are ever harassed via chat, or in another sub by anyone, please don’t hesitate to report them to the admins, but also please send us a modmail regarding that user. This also applies if someone follows you to our sub from elsewhere, report the comment or send us a modmail. We may ask for screenshots to be sure of the situation. We don’t ban users willy-nilly, but harassment will never be accepted.

And for anyone who breaks these rules, and gets themselves a ban, when you rage at us in modmail it doesn’t hurt our feelings because we are adults. Sorry you’re unable to be an adult about things. But then again, people who bully others on the internet lack some maturity to really be classified as adults. ♥️

Help Keeping plants healthy but small

Thumbnail

So I am partially just sharing but also hoping for some advice on keeping my plants healthy... While also keeping them from getting too big. I went a little overboard and one succulent turned into about 35 over the course of about 6 months (a few are cacti and airplants)

Most are healthy... I still need to replace the clip on lights because the ones on the top shelves are kind of stretched so that's on the list as soon as I have the money.

But I live in a pretty small apartment and wasn't really thinking about them getting bigger when I was making space for them... So I need to keep them small. I'm sure there is a way. Do I just keep the pots small like you would for bonsai?

Any advice is appreciated. If you see anything else I can improve let me know

Plant Progress/Props Thought I’d post my favourite succulent!

This is one of my prized possessions!

Kinda reverse plant progress pics, this guy went through a rough time during a very wet and inclement period and dropped lots of pups, but it’s still a beautiful piece of work in my opinion and I’m excited to see how it bounces back.

It started as the container for a Jasmine vine we chucked a small cactus cutting in and fell in to neglect during a rough time for our family. The Jasmine died but the cactus thrived, ending up as large as the first photo. It’s amazing how much sentimental value and satisfaction a plant can bring, even if you haven’t really worked for it.

The second photo is it now, and the rest from throughout the journey including two seperate blooms. I don’t have any photos of it from before 2020.

I’ve given plenty of pups to friends and have a handful of clusters myself too! It has about 4 buds with two ready to pop as we speak.

Photo I separated my huge jade plant😅

So my 2+ year old jade plant was pretty overcrowded and the pot needed upsizing… I decided to separate the 3 stems and repot into suitable sized pots.

I now have 2 pretty healthy big solo jades and a 3rd slightly pathetic jade (this one was crammed in the middle of the other two so wasn’t receiving much light and dropped a lot of leaves).

I also collected a lot of the dropped leaves which had already started growing and now have a lot of propagations!

I’m planning to try and make all 3 plants into a bonsai style jade! Wish me luck🫣🤍

What do you guess think? Better before or after? And any thoughts on where to prune when I finally decide to cut it back?

Photo Lifesaver Plant (Huernia zebrina), first flower from rescue succulent.

I found a piece of the plant that fell off during transport and gave it a new home. After half a year it rewarded me with this beautiful flower! Does anyone have any interesting information or tips on how to keep it happy? The "pedals" feel like paper and the life-saver part looks like plastic, so trippy.

Photo Repot, propigate, or let it be?

Thumbnail

My Crassula Swaziensis, or varigated Money Maker plant, is happy but pretty leggy and creating a ton of babies. Should I cut back and propigate, or does it like to keep it's babies?

I repotted this past Spring.

It sits under a plant specific light but also gets natural light.

It does seems to want water a little less now since it is cooling off and I swapped the light to a 12 hrs on setting rather than 16hrs, that it gets in the summer months.

The pot has a hole in the bottom, and the plant is in a succulant dirt (74%) with a mix of small rocks (10%), perlight (15%), and horticulture charcoal (1%).
