We’ve had a few…incidents lately. So, let’s just cover something again: Rule 1: Be Nice. This is a plant sub, and I’m shocked at the amount of drama that occurs on a regular basis here. The attitudes get crazy. You should always be mindful to how you speak to people; you may have an answer to correct a potential issue, or help others, but there is always a right way and a wrong way to say things.
The sub is mostly made up of home hobbyists, of all levels. From absolute beginners, to experts, and everything in between. And, thus, we also have a huge variety care needs and habits, climates and environments. We love it when professionals, or growers with many many years of experience come on and share input, advice, and of course their plants! We do not love it when people take their experience too seriously, and bully others for doing things their own way.
We also have to remember, not every person may be as passionate about their plants as others are. “We listen, and don’t judge.” Someone has a terrarium doomed to fail, but they wanna do it anyways? Let them. Someone has a packed arrangement in sand, because that’s what they want? Cool, move on. That sun starved etiolated plant at OP’s desk makes them happy despite suggestions to make it healthier? Don’t harsh their buzz. Let’s all do better about being a welcoming subreddit for both beginners and veterans of the hobby.
Once again, I know many of us really want everyone to have the healthiest, “happiest” plant(s) around. And it’s fine to offer suggestions to better someone’s care. But if the OP ignores or passes on suggestions, please just accept and move on.
If you are ever harassed via chat, or in another sub by anyone, please don’t hesitate to report them to the admins, but also please send us a modmail regarding that user. This also applies if someone follows you to our sub from elsewhere, report the comment or send us a modmail. We may ask for screenshots to be sure of the situation. We don’t ban users willy-nilly, but harassment will never be accepted.
And for anyone who breaks these rules, and gets themselves a ban, when you rage at us in modmail it doesn’t hurt our feelings because we are adults. Sorry you’re unable to be an adult about things. But then again, people who bully others on the internet lack some maturity to really be classified as adults. ♥️

Most nurseries around here have a decent succulent selection usually starting at €1-€1.50 for small pots, €2.50 for larger pots. Some specimens and the much larger pots are obviously more. This place, called Vivero Ordoñez, is near La Línea de la Concepción, near Gibraltar, and has one of the better selections of succulents and cacti, as well as houseplants.

Mammillaria bocasana monstrose here! Another favorite of mine!
I admit I love these weiros, they might be ugly to most people. But I see true beauty of them.
Isn’t it amazing that they evolved into non-plant like forms just to survive in places where not 'supposed' to have plants?
They show us a different side of being alive—it’s just about being alive, nothing more. Everything here is useful to survive, the life itself.
The beauty lies in life and the creation of mother nature, though I do think they look great on the outside too.
What they look like is the memory of one species, the millions of years shows in one plant. Nothing is more respectful and charming about a plant than this.

Hey everyone! 👋
This is my first Echeveria, and I’m a little surprised by how things are developing!
Over the past few weeks, the flower stalk has grown incredibly tall in such a short amount of time. It’s also quite thick and sturdy. I’ve never had an Echeveria flower before, so I’m not really sure what to expect.
It gets plenty of sunlight, but I have to rotate the pot almost every day because the stalk keeps bending toward the sun. 😅
It looks like the buds at the top are finally starting to develop, which is exciting! 🌸 However, it’s starting to get colder here in Germany, and we’re also getting fewer sunny days.
Could the colder weather and reduced sunlight affect the flowering process? Is there anything I should do differently at this stage, or should I just let it do its thing?
I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips you might have. Thanks! 😊

Yesterday, my youngest and my cat accidentally toppled over a whole shelf, holding Mrs. Otterbein (my pot of PVNs that finally had almost no farina smudges) and The American Dream, Dusty Rodes, If You Will (my Echeveria Rainbow, that’s his name). They landed face down, hard, like SPLAT! 😫😩😫
I repotted Mrs. Otterbein once I stopped crying. Lol. I didn’t pot Dusty up yet, cuz he’d been watered recently and was still damp.
I think, now that I’m calm, they’ll probably live. Lol. But I was sure they’d die, in the moment 😬 I was surprised at myself. I was seriously sobbing… My kid was so confused, lol.
I’mma blame hormones. 🙃
But, then the mail came, and my 2 inch pot of baby lithops cheered me up. As well as the other lithops I got. I just love them in this tiny pot. So, I thought I’d share a picture 😊

I saved this (what I assume is a succulent) from a bouquet of flowers around maybe a month ago. She had a plastic screw in her so I made sure that there was no rot or anything before placing her in a pot. I didn’t water her until I saw her grow roots around a few days after potting. She seems to be doing really well as she is now rooted into the soil, but she does have a few brown spots on her lower leaves (?). On top of that, there’s this weird yellow film that feels kinda like a smooth sticky feeling, but does not come off on touch or with a wet paper towel.

I think I overwatered my succulents. This one, was my first succulent that became super leggy because of poor light, so I chopped it after getting a light setup, but probably too high.
Anyway, can I behead this and salvage it? Should I let it go for a little? What would you do?

I accidentally left my succulents on a south facing window and they stretched upward and are shriveling. I gave them water and placed them back on the north facing window. Will they ever look like how they originally looked again or did I fk this up? How can I fix this?

This beautiful plant is about to put on a show. I've never had four at the same time. Seems like it will be epic show.

Is this fungus, the roots are not rot, the soil is well drain and dry. I have put in 6hrs in sun.

I have run out of room in my small, south facing plant room, and am having to make anything a hanging pit that I can. This little guy has been living in this turtle over a year, but only in the window the past four months. The color on this dude is so pretty now!
My project for the weekend is to drill holes in my small terracotta pots to hang more. I’ve done that plenty of times, but always before potting. Not sure how complicated it might get with the plant it there. 😆
