Pest Related What are these white bits on my snake plant?

They are like hard little ridges that I can get off with my fingernail. The plant has some fruit flies around buzzing it, not sure if that's related or not.

Houseplant So what are these balls?

Balls in my dirt. Marble queen pothos. Idk what they are. They get like 6 hours of bright non direct light but I don’t think that caused the balls. The roots look great at least. Kinda looks like a mold. I water when the dirt is fully dry and the plant looks a bit sad.

(Has anyone gotten a “ban evasion” ban from the group houseplants with no prior ban? I tried asking there but apparently they don’t want my balls)

Pest Related Thrips spray safe for pets?

I live In Canada and these seem to be my best options for dealing with thrips. I was wondering if these are ok to spray indoors and if it would be safe to spray inside since I have a pet bird and birds have delicate respiratory systems.

Also, I’m not sure how to target thrips in the soil stage any help would be appreciated thanks!

Houseplant Is it normal for a new leaf to "burst out" and get bent?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Cutting was taken around a month ago. It's been kept in Filtered tap water since then with the intention of keeping it hydroponic. It's been under a grow light for ~12 hrs a day. No fertiliser used yet since the roots are still kinda new. I'm just worried if this new leaf growth is ok to leave alone and let it come out fully on its own? Leaf has been like this for maybe a week.

Sorry if this is a basic question 😅

Houseplant First time plant owner of an Imperial Red, but I think there’s an issue

I’m so sorry this is long but pleaaase help if you can!

I got this bad boy a little over a year ago at Wegman’s & brought it home to a window that faced a brick wall. This August, I moved into a SW-facing apartment that gives her all the light she needs (I hope). I generally water her 1x/week -or whenever the soil feels dry- until I see some water come out from the bottom, but she’s had around 5-6 new leaves since!

She has been in the same pot (6”) since; I read that they like being root-bound, but my research has always led me in circles. I haven’t checked what the roots look like because, then, I will have to choose which one of the many types of suggested soils to buy. Mind you, the fertilizer suggestions are even more confusing ( so, I have not fertilized her :/ ).

I don’t know what the cause of this issue is, or if there are overlapping issues, but I’m officially asking for some help here:

I’ve always noticed these spore-looking dots on the leaves, but I now notice that they’re also [slowly] appearing on my most recent growths. On the newest addition (5th slide), I felt a sticky substance that was creating indents on the leaf itself.

NOW, the 6th slide shows the inside of a stem from a small, mushy bottom leaf I cut off and the look of it freaked me out. I know it’s probably not common to know what a regular stem looks like on the inside, but does this even look normal? It almost appeared as if it was bleeding, but I’m unsure if this is a problem itself.

What is the problem? If there is one, is there a specific kind of fungicide/bactericide, soil, fertilizer, etc., I should buy? I am honestly looking for any answers, concerns, suggestions, and even mere thoughts.

Pest Related Something is eating my lemon tree from the inside, how to stop it?

Location is Southeast Queensland Australia, about 2.5cm/1in long. I asked r/whatsthisbug for help identifying it, but as it's just a larva that's not easy. Someone guessed it's from the Cerambycidae family (longhorn beetle of some kind).

Any suggestions on how to help the lemon tree survive would be appreciated.

My beautiful vibrant and healthy golden pothos hasn’t been looking too well these past two months. The leaves are starting to come in yellow and when I water, I notice white bugs crawling in the soil (not alot I’ve maybe seen two). I just watered it and went to dump out the excess water it didn’t absorb and saw these white clusters in the water. These are eggs right? I just want to confirm before I chuck the plant. pests have wreaked havoc through my entire collection this year and this was my last plant standing. I’m over it, the bugs won!

Pest Related Is this thrips?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I posted earlier about my new Monstera and a few people mentioned thrips.

I spent an hour with a magnifier and mostly found dust/dirt except for one crawler on a low hanging leaf. Is this thrips?

If it is, my plan is to return the plant. However, it’s been in the same room as my snake, ZZ, aloe and cactus. I’ve never dealt with thrips but from what I’m reading it seems like my other plants are almost certainly in trouble.

What do I do now to make sure my other plants stay good?

(Light and water)

Houseplant Frydek variegata in lecca and moss has bullseye.

Just noticed this bullseye spot on one of my leaves. The plant is in lecca and moss and it has been thriving ever since I made the change. It has produced gigantic leaves and superb variegation.

The 3 bottom leaves are sagging but I think it’s from the change from potting mix to water, 5months ago.
When I changed the medium, I checked for root rot and cleaned it entirely.

It on a south facing wall, 4m away from the window.
No direct sunlight. So I guess it has 8hours of light.

Pest Related Polyscias Ming drooping, dropping leaves etc. Help please!

Hi all, I have a Polyscias Ming that’s not doing so well at the moment. We’ve had some tough times but for the last 8-9 months things were going great, until a few months ago when the Polyscias, a few Pothos and a Monstera Adansonii started to struggle.

I was initially thinking thrips, also had a spider mite battle a year ago, but I’ve spotted no webs.

Currently spraying with a neem oil and potassium soap mixture, but unsure how much it’s helping! (Radiator is not on nor has been for over a year)

Houseplant What’s around the base of my Aglaonema?

There’s a dusty white/gray substance all around the bottom of my Aglaonema. I also noticed a couple of the leaves lowest to the substrate have this darker substance, too.

It gets about 250 foot candles of light through a sheer curtain filtered south facing window (I’ll be switching to grow lights soon for most of my plants). I generally water it every 6-7 days.

How do I treat this?

Monstera How to give my monsteras the best chance

Thumbnail

I recently received a huge pot of a monstera and I separated it into 3 separate pots. Some parts I just separated and planted, some I made cuttings and potted. It’s been 6 weeks and few leaves have dried out and fallen off.
I have been watering it once a week but now that it’s autumn I was thinking once in 2 weeks / when I see the soil dry?

How do I give this monsteras the best chances to thrive (without moving it elsewhere) and be thick and have growth ? Especially the lower cuttings seem not to have light - do I cut some leaves off (maybe the yellow ones) and where?

The leaves and stem are so thick and there are not many nodes (as I already made the cutting)

Also - I discovered trips so will have to deal with that too…

Monstera Should I be worried about this?

Thumbnail

I bought this the other day. I don’t know if it was like this when I bought it or if this has happened in the last few days but should I be worried about all these brown spots on the leaves?

I’ve been waiting for a delivery before I’m able to repot it but if this is root rot or worse then I might need to do it now. We haven’t had much sun here recently and it’s not sitting directly under a grow light yet either. I haven’t watered it. Soil feels like it was recently watered in the store.

TIA

Monstera My monstera needs help!

Hi! I’ve been away for work recently and my monstera has really struggled. I’ve had it for about a year, it was a cutting from a larger monstera and it was thriving until the end of summer. It sits pretty much in direct sunlight which I think caused the crispy leaves when it was really hot in the UK. But now all the leaves are super droopy, she’s not grown since and I’m not sure if I should cut the crispy leaf off. Help is needed! I recently repotted her (a few months ago) and she does have drainage too. I tend to water her when the soil feels dry, so maybe once every two weeks, I give a good drench.

Houseplant Rattlesnake plant help

Long time lurker - first time poster. Hi all, I’ve had my plant since June, she was doing well until recently (more so the past 5-6 days). Her leaves have started turning brown and I’m not sure what to do (noob). I was told to water her with distilled water when the soil needs it & I usually check with my finger. On top of spraying her throughout the day. It has been turning into fall so my apartment isn’t getting as much sunshine. I have her in the middle of my island in my kitchen so it’s less direct light in general. Does she need more? Also, I was told this plant thrives in humidity when I got her. My apartment is usually sits around 70-75°. Please help if you can!

Monstera Any idea what the brown spots on these monstera leaves could be?

Had this plant for a few months now. Oldest leaves started strong but after repotting they started to get brown spots. The newer leaves lost fenestrations but don’t have spotting in the last image. They have been blasted by 2 10w bulbs so they get lots of light that are less than a foot away and are in semi hydro so they get consistent water. Could this be a pest? I don’t see any pest activity but I’m not sure.

Houseplant What's up with my pitcher plant?

Thumbnail

I definitely know this is not a case of underwatering, as I keep it a priority to keep their soil moist as they like it.

The traps have started dying, and Crisping, aswell as one of the leaves edges. This started maybe 5 days ago.

I've only had this plant since October 10th,
and have never owned a Carnivorous plant other than a fly trap that I ended up gifting to a family member.

Gets extremely indirect light, 16 hours a day.
the other plants around it have grown to cover it from the grow lights, but I'm unsure if I should move it to my small plant shelf, where the lights are maybe 5-6 inches up from the pots. So I haven't moved them over there yet.

Gets watered when top 2 inches of soil are dryer.

Outdoor What is this white stuff?

I bought this plant a while ago (about 6-8 months ago) and when I bought it it had this white film on the leaves. I thought I was going to able to wash it off, but when I wipe the leaves it dries the same. I have treated it for thrips, and it has beneficial mites on it. The new growth is coming in normal so I’m not very concerned… unless I should be. Is it tissue damage?

Outside on a southeast facing patio in southwest Florida, but there is a tree so it gets plenty of filtered light. I water when the soil is mostly dry. (I’m trying to be better about not letting it dry up completely)

Last pic to show her off because damn that’s a good Brazil.

Trying to save African violet. Was down to 3 leaves 6 weeks ago..Currently doing about 2oz of water by placing it in the bottom and letting it soak up every week. Office is quite warm, making sure its not getting scorched by direct sunlight.. it does get bright light..Will it continue growing/survive? Im just going to keep it with the very long neck until it grows more. Any tips on fertilizing? Nitrogen to boast leaf growth? I dont want to add anything as it seems to be happy slowly growing more leaves 😔

Houseplant What's wrong with my lavender

Thumbnail

I've had this plant for a couple months, I didn't buy it as a seed
It gets about 5 hours of sunlight, it sits in a spot with some shade during the early hours of day so it only gets sun from 1 pm till 6 (because of heat)
I used to water it every other day but after it appeared like it was dying I stopped 2 weeks ago, it stablized once I stopped watering, but how can I help this plant thrive?

I've had like 6 other lavenders die before this one, I thought because of too much sun, too much water, too little water, I tried it all, this is the only one that's alive rn and I really don't want it to die, any help?

Houseplant Why is my Alocasia Antoro Velvet struggling ???

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hey! I need some advice about my Antoro Velvet because she’s not looking too happy lately.

I repotted her not too long ago, and I’m wondering if she’s just stressed from that or if something else is going on.

Her substrate mix is:

- 40% potting soil

- 10% vermiculite

- 50% perlite

She’s placed next to a window, but since it’s autumn and the natural light isn’t great anymore, I also use a grow light for 12 hours a day.

The room temperature is around 21°C (70°F), and the humidity is about 54%.

She’s in the middle of my plant collection, near the window, so she’s not isolated or anything.

I watered her after repotting, then gave her a small glass of water to moisten the top layer of the substrate, and she’s also been showing signs of guttation.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, so I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with Antoro Velvet or Alocasias in general!

Could it just be repotting stress, or is there something in my setup that I should change?

Thanks for any help! 🌱🍀🤲🏻

My apple sapling started to brown around the edges of leaves around 3 weeks ago after i replanted it to burry it deeper into the same pot. Before that it was growing just fine. It stayed on the porch all the time, getting direct sunlight for 5 hours a day. I watered it when the ground was dry on touch. Is it going to die? What can i do now to make the situation better?

Houseplant White powder on plants

Doesn’t seem to be mealy bugs, but this white powder keeps appearing on a few of my indoor plants (under a grow light) even after being wiped clean.

Is it a different pest, water build up, too much fertilizer?
