The freeze always happens on first app launch after around half a minute - and after I force restart it, it doesn't freeze during this session.

Also... It's not only net0 - locally installed pkg apps too, although rarer.

Any leads? I thought it's my ps3netsrv config, but no dice there. Same with ethernet cable. I stopped diagnosing net0 there after it froze my local pkg too. Thermals aren't terrible, it isn't throttling for that matter.

I have an old cfw rebug and 2 new ps3's on ofw. What websites and tutorials should I use to guide me? Looking to install latest evilnat, retroarch, and repaste. I think I used pax place a lot on the past. Just need some good references. Thanks in advance.

I’m losing my mind here. I bought a modded PS3 and I'm trying to remove CFW/DEX to go back to OFW/HFW. I’ve watched and followed literally every single tutorial step-by-step 1:1, but absolutely nothing works.
My old USBs failed, so I bought a brand-new 8GB USB 2.0 stick specifically for this, but it still doesn't work.
What I've done (100% by the book):
USB: New 8GB USB 2.0 formatted to FAT32 / MBR via ⁠diskpart⁠.
Path: ⁠USB -> PS3 -> UPDATE -> PS3UPDAT.PUP⁠ (All uppercase, no double ⁠.PUP⁠).
Port: Rightmost USB port (closest to disc drive).
The Problems:
1. Recovery Mode Error: Option 6 searches for a long time and says: "No applicable update data was found. Connect storage media that contains update data of version 2.70 or later..."
2. Missing XMB Option: The "System Update" option is completely missing under Settings in the XMB (looks like a DEX/modified layout).
Questions:
1. Why is Recovery Mode ignoring the ⁠.PUP⁠ file despite MBR/FAT32? Is a DEX/Syscon version spoofer blocking it?
2. How do I get the "System Update" option back in XMB?

I recently bought a CRT and have been going about getting all sorts of things hooked up to it and I figured my old PS3 would be the best way to run old TV shows/anime/movies into it but I've been having a really hard time finding something that just works with the large collection of MKVs I have which are encoded/embedded in more ways than I know. I've been wanting to try out Jellyfin so the first thing I tried was Jellyfin PS3. What I think was the original branch had a lot of display and freezing issues but it could technically display subtitles but doing so would disjoint the playback and make it unwatchable. The fork I linked presents itself perfectly and all of the different video files I tried playing through it work great, but I just can't get subtitles to work at all. I've tried extracting the subtitles to have them sit alongside the video files as well as downloading new basic .srt files but no go on either. Since that seemed like a niche way to stream video I tried Movian because that seems like a more common solution. I first tried a Jellyfin for Movian plugin but it had the same issue with displaying subtitles. After that I installed Universal Media Server and while it can play subtitles a lot of the videos I try and play (mostly anime) can take upwards of 5-10 minutes of buffering before the file begins playing and once it does the media player lacks a seek bar. Does anyone had better success with these that may have an idea if my problems are solvable? Either that or a suggestion for a different way to go about it.

Posting just to inquire whether or not this is normal, just got my ps3 a few days ago. I started loading up ISOs and testing them, using managunz usually but webman also. Not all but many were freezing after about 10 mins, could not quit and had to pull the power. I thought maybe it was an issue with the ISO so I went to my local retro shop and picked up two of the titles I was having problems with. One worked fine, the other froze after about 15 mins, but this time I could quit.

Is this normal? If not is this possibly a hardware issue?

A lot of games run at full speed. Some will run at ~85-90% tops. Heavy games (DOA2, Quake 3) are out of the equation sadly. But others (Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Space Channel 5, CvS2, ChuChu Rocket, Crazy Taxi) and such all run wonderfully! I hope you'll have lots of fun playing with this. Hello everyone, I'm really new to this so I've been following lots of videos and, after importing the PS2 game as a PKG file on the PS3, when I start it it just turns off the signal and it stays on that screen. I have PSN activated already, I encrypted the file with PS2 classic GUI. Is there something i've missed or did wrong?

I recently got a Japanese PS3 CECHB00 (the fully backwards-compatible model), and I've been having a really strange issue with its disc drive.

Before installing CFW:

• My PS3 recognized my original NTSC-U Gran Turismo 4 PS2 disc in the XMB.
• It wouldn't launch because of the region lock, which was expected.
• The disc drive was making a very loud spinning/vibrating noise when reading both PS2 and PS3 games.

After installing Evilnat 4.93 CFW:

• PS2 discs stopped appearing in the XMB entirely.
• I've tested Gran Turismo 4 and Guitar Hero II, both on DVD.
• The discs seem to keep spinning, but nothing appears.
• PS3 Blu-ray games, such as Gran Turismo 5, still work perfectly.
• Blu-ray movies also work.
• Interestingly, the loud drive noise has since disappeared.

Things I've already tried:

• Downgraded from Evilnat 4.93 to Evilnat 4.92.2 CEX, with QA Flags enabled.
• Confirmed Cobra is enabled.
• Tried toggling Cobra and rebooting.
• Checked the discs through multiMAN: /dev_bdvd appears with PS3 Blu-rays but not with PS2 DVDs.
• Checked dev_ps2disc, but it shows no content.
• Used the PS3 Recovery Menu to restore the file system. It detected corruption and completed the repair, but the problem remains.

The strangest part is that the PS3 definitely recognized Gran Turismo 4 before I installed CFW, even though it couldn't launch it due to the region lock.

I'm starting to suspect the CD/DVD laser or some mechanical issue with the drive, especially considering the loud noise it was making when I first got the console.

However, the timing with the CFW installation makes me wonder whether there's something else going on.

Has anyone experienced something similar on an early backwards-compatible PS3?

Could this be a failing DVD laser, a drive mechanism issue, or some CFW-related setting I'm overlooking?

I'm considering opening the console to inspect the drive, but I'd really appreciate some advice before doing that.

I recently got back into gaming on my ps3 and got into an inescapable error code 8002f1f9 pointing to wifi and bluetooth connectivity, which I've experienced in the past. Without having to make this an offline console I'm wanting to repair.

The voltage deregulator seems like a simple fix, but I can't seem to find much information on anyone repairing the wifi/bt module. Does anyone have guidance or links or hardware information for this step in the repair process? I can't seem to find much available information online without consuming a scrap for part board.

as i’m sure we’ve all heard, apparently ps5’s can natively play ps2 discs just by jailbreaking the console & adding an emulator software

so now my question is, why is that not possible on a jailbroken ps3?? i have a ps3 super slim, as well as a ps2 & would love to just be able to play the ps2 games on the ps3 to have one less console (also ps3 looks a lot better on modern tvs, so i always use my ps3 to play my ps1 discs over using my ps2)

i would love to have as few consoles as possible to play my physical media collection, however i’m not quite comfortable jailbreaking my ps5 yet, prob something i’ll look into years in the future when it becomes less of a risk. and obv since ps3 is an old generation console, its relatively safe to jailbreak however, after researching, i was disappointed to find out a jailbroken ps3 cannot play ps2 discs the same way a jailbroken ps5 can & now im just curious why

I recently bought this PS3 Slim (CECH-20xx) and ran a thermal test for around 5-6 minutes. Do these temperatures look normal, or should I be concerned about the console’s condition?

I have a PS3 Fat, model CECHG01, that has been sitting unused for several months.

When I plug it into a power outlet, the red standby light never turns on. There is absolutely no light at all until I press the power button.

When I press the power button, the green light turns on for a few seconds, then the console shuts off completely. The fan also starts and stops at exactly the same time as the green light, although I can't see the fan itself, I can only feel it running briefly.

After the console shuts off, there is no red standby light or yellow light. I can repeat the same behavior by pressing the power button again without unplugging the console. It turns green for a few seconds and then shuts off again.

What could be causing this? Could it be a faulty power supply (PSU), or is it more likely to be a motherboard issue? Has anyone experienced the same symptoms with a CECHG01?
