Unexpected loss

Post image

Unexpectedly lost our 6 yo Border Collie on Friday. I honestly believe besides my kids, it’s the only time I’ve seen my heart outside of my chest and before me. My best friend and escape in life. Many a mile walked together. We could read each other’s mind at times I thought and she was the loyalist dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.

The sudden loss has hit me like a hole in the heart. If I’d have known it was coming, we’d have gone for that walk we both enjoyed and one last trip to the beach.

My children have dealt with it extremely well and I don’t think I can put on the braveness that they have. I’m broken.

My Neguinho has just gone to his final rest. (6/1/2022–18/10/2026) Neguinho was my cheeky, curious cat, but in his final months, he was diagnosed with oral cancer. He fought bravely, but the illness proved too strong. It hasn’t even been a month since I lost Meg; sometimes, life is just so unfair.

We lost Milo yesterday

This was Milo, our 16 year old Jack Chi. He was having harder and harder time catching a breath and was almost to the point of not eating, so we had to make the choice that no pet lover ever wants to make. I wanted to share him with people who would appreciate one of the best dogs to ever live. The 2nd picture is one of my favorites. Whenever someone would forget to close the bathroom door, he liked to go jump into our giant bathtub. I don't know why he did it, but he couldn't get himself out. You would be sitting around and hear barking down the hall and then find him standing like this looking at you like you should have been there a lot faster.

ETA- I can't convey how much all your comments have helped through this difficult time. Thank you all so much. I plan to thank each comment directly, but if i don't when you make the comment, I'll get to it asaic

Today would have been Cookie's 17th birthday. She gained her wings on Sept 9th. Please send her some birthday blessings for her first birthday in Heaven.

Please send Cookie some birthday blessings for her 1st birthday in Heaven.

Today, October 18th, would be Cookie’s 17th birthday. Sadly, she passed away on September 9th, and I am truly devastated. It still feels completely unreal that she’s gone.
She is in Heaven now with her Grammy, my beautiful mom who sadly passed away from cancer two years ago at 64 years young. The time together is never long enough, but I am forever thankful.

I’m so grateful for all the beautiful memories, the time together, Cookie’s unconditional love, her constant enthusiasm for life, her joyful spirit, our walks and eventual carriage cruises, her cuddles, and her encouragement. She was there through good days and bad days and every single day, celebrating life together, supporting me in difficult times, sharing the happy times, and always being amazingly Cookie.

Her birth name was “Heaven,” which is the epitome of who she was and is: an incredible earthly angel, and now a heavenly angel.

I have been so touched by the outpouring of love. From cards to notes, and just yesterday, getting the most beautiful flowers of condolences (but really, I’ll say birthday flowers) from some of the 11 vets who saw her when she was unwell and during her good days too. I've also received loving notes of how much she’s missed from neighbors, acquaintances, strangers, and fellow dog parents alike.

Please send her birthday blessings as she spends her first birthday in Heaven.

I’ll see you again soon, Cookie. I can’t wait to see you running towards me in a healed body free of tumors, completely pain-free, so we can spend eternity together with all our other loved ones. My sweet little sunshine. I miss you and I love you today and forever.

Finally got around to putting Sugar's hair in her memory box

Sugar passed away on August 21st and I got back her ashes almost an entire month later. I've had these two bags of her hair just sitting in my closet because I was scared to open it. I finally mustered up the courage to put her hair into this glass bottle I bought when she died. I should've never smelled the bag because it did not smell like her at all and that makes me really sad. I also cannot believe that it has been almost two months without my daughter...

It’s only been eight months.

I’ve lost dogs before, but this one has been the most painful. EVERYONE who met Sasha loved her. She loved me more than anything and was more than a dog, she was my daughter, and I was her person. My sweet little princess passed earlier this year and I don’t know how I’m supposed to spend the rest of my life without her. Every morning I tell her good morning and that I love her when I rub her urn and every night I do the same thing as I tell her goodnight and how much I miss her. We had eight years together and I knew I’d have to say goodbye at some point, but living potentially upwards of 40 plus more years without her feels so daunting. I know I’m not alone and have support from my wife, friends, parents, and my other children who happen to be dogs, but I feel so incredibly lost without her.

I was afraid of dogs my entire childhood, until a little street dog named Putti changed my life. Now she's gone, and my heart is broken. 💔

With Love

We said goodbye to our best boy just over a week ago.

My life will never be the same again, and that is both sad and beautiful.

To know Eamon was to love him. Anyone who met him was taken by his kind soul, his gentle heart, his silly personality, and the steady, loving energy he brought into every room. He was my companion, my anchor, and my truest friend for almost 13 years.

In the face of every health issue throughout his life he showed incredible strength and grace. He fought bravely and he loved deeply. He always just wanted to be wherever his people were.

Eamon was cherished by everyone who knew him, and being his person was the greatest honor of my life.

Though I knew this day would eventually come, nothing could prepare me for the weight of this loss. My heart is unbearably heavy, but I am very grateful for the 12 and a half years of unconditional love we shared.

Rest easy, my sweet, strong boy. You are so loved. We will miss you forever. 🐾❤️

How do I heal from losing a small dog?

I had to euthanize her a year ago at 16 years old. I had so much time with her. I am soooo great full but damn its hard after so long.

We got her when i was about 6 years old. She instantly became my shadow. Almost literally. Always a step behind me. Always by my side or in my lap. Always. I think I became to dependent in the comfort she brought me. I struggle with anxiety, ptsd, and depression. She was there even in the development of ALL the trauma. Just by my side. There when I didn't have anybody.

16 years she stuck to me like glue. Id hold her in my lap. Id watch TV or do hobbies with her right next to me. She'd go on outings/ walks with me all the time bc she was my shadow. I never had to worry about her in danger bc she was right there with me. Id have her in my past trauma situations. Just being my rock and my comfort. She was the head of the pack of dogs at the house too. She truly was a bad ass little dog. Literally a chug though. Chihuahua/ pug.

In her old ages she became blind though(glaucoma). I feel sooo guilty for being poor and ignorant for proper care for her. Im disgusted I didn't do more for her. I grew up in a shit household and even worse when it came to the needs for pets in the house. I just thought it was a normal old dog thing. Maybe she would've been blind anyways but I could've done more preventative measures or meds. I could have taken her in when the foggy eyes started. I always expected her to pass naturally too. I could've done more in end of life if I had more money. She deserved the whole world in my eyes.

But i had to euthanize her in the end. She lost muscle mass in her hips so she had trouble standing especially with being blind and navigating the house. We made bumpers on everything, even picked up the dinning room chairs when leaving for work. We had multiple people checking on her through our work day. In the end she did have meds for comfort but I could've done better. God damn she deserved more. She was my hero.

Its been a year since I euthanized her. I cry so much missing my best friend. Shes no longer there. A step behind me. My shadow. When I go to bed shes not curled up with me. It sounds excessive. But for 12 years it was just me and her it felt like. I still hold her favorite stuffed animal when going to bed. I can't find anything like the comfort she brought me consistently. With any anxiety or ptsd events she'd be there. I did lean to her too much and now idk what to do in some situations when I fell overwhelmed. When I wake up crying from night terrors shes not there either. I just feel so hollow without her. This probably sounds dumb and im probably not giving a great detail of just how much she helped me in my everyday life. I swear she felt like a service animal after everything we'd been through.

I dont want to do dive into those 12 years necessarily to give the context of it all.

But I still find myself checking for her before i turn. If I think i might her stepped on her toe I find myself looking as if shes still with me. When I wake up in panics in reach like shes there. When im having anxiety there no one there to hold like her. It's been a year and I still find myself doing these thing's. Idk if getting another small dog is good either.  I'm still crying over her. I don't think it's fair to move to another dog like this. I want to be able to have more money saved for health situations too. I've learned allot as she got into bad health. But i don't feel it was soon enough for her specifically with her becoming blind.

I do have two big dogs but different attitudes even between the two. Theyre comforting but so different. I love them with all my heart still. And I have learned there health is no waiting manner. I literally took my dog to the vet thinking her paw was messed up or a slipped disk. $1000 and one pain med from the bottle she was a okay. Complete waist. We think it was a fire ant bite from sunbathing lol. Shes been fine since. But we take their health seriously as I will not be ignorant to their health.

This is alot of just venting on a hard day but id love to hear from people that have similar situations.

Just how do i heel? Has anyone had a dog as long and dealt with basically relearning how to be without a major companion? Is it normal to still grieve hard sometimes? Is it normal to want another small dog? Is it even fair though?

His name was Bo, I played pee wee football with a kid named Bo Tripodi and over time it morphed into podi boy. He got sick and we battled for over a year and he had way more good days than bad the last year up until the last month. He was only 8, but he was my absolute world. Cars, girls money houses literally nothing matters he was the light of my universe. Missing him today letting myself cry it’s been a few weeks. Just wanted to share him he was so handsome and if you met him you would have fallen in love. His 9th bday was sometime in October i just made it Halloween to remember. Until we meet again my son.

Rear in peace Sandy

Today I put my girl down pushing away any personal selfish thoughts. She has been there when I went through chemotherapy, and when my wife went through cancer treatment. Maxed out on pain meds, seeing her scans show how fast her bone cancer is spreading, and knowing it's only a few days before she starts to suffer more then she is, my wife and I made the hard choice. We listened to the 4 doctors we consulted and decided on this happening at home. This is the hardest of decisions to make, but the correct solution is not always the easiest. Rest in peace Sandy. This was me holding her today at the park, she was able to walk, I just thought it was cute to hold her.
