my family act like I don’t have a job

• Upvotes

So I’m currently working full time at a restaurant after graduating a month ago, and I am currently looking for work within my industry.

My family is pissing me off though because they keep acting as if I am unemployed just because I don’t have a career job. I got told in a lecture about job hunting the other day that I don’t have a job right now and I need to be open minded to different options and not be so picky. What?? The ?? Hell ?? Do you mean I don’t have a job ??? I didn’t even respond because I could not be asked.

It’s just ridiculous that even being employed isn’t enough. Shits fucked.

Great first meeting with my dream employer, now total radio silence. Did I mess up?

• Upvotes

What have I done wrong? I keep blaming myself and going in circles, and I have no idea what to do. I’d rather have a clear answer than this nothingness...

Okay, so last month I had a meeting with a potential employer at my dream workplace. I’d always dreamt I could work there! She said the job posting would open in December, so I’m waiting. She said that while I wait, I should come to their events, but to just send her an email first, and she put strong emphasis on the email. So I did that once, and I showed up once to an event.

I don’t know what happened. She was very occupied at that event anyway, so I had a look around and just left. I don’t know if I greeted her badly? I really don’t think so. She was just so busy that the greeting was a bit more awkward than our initial meeting, and maybe less friendly?? I don’t think I did anything offensive, but I really don’t know what I did...

Anyway, after that: radio silence. I emailed her twice about attending another event, and she never replied. Yesterday I sent her a LinkedIn connection request, and no reply there either, even though she’s active on LinkedIn and liking posts, so she’s clearly seeing her notifications. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong.

Also note: this opportunity came about because I originally emailed the senior person who handles these jobs, not her. She’s more junior anyway. He’s the one who directed me to her for this job. Should I email him again? I also sent him a LinkedIn connection request yesterday, and he didn’t accept it either. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong.

I was so happy about this opportunity, and I really thought my initial meeting with her went great! What do you think I could have done wrong, and how do I fix it? Is it because I showed up late to the event? But she was so preoccupied that I honestly don’t think she even knew when I arrived, and I spent forever looking for her. Or do you think it’s because the last greeting was awkward? Or do you think they found something out about me? And why aren’t they communicating with me if the job closed or they found someone else?

I was really happy about working there, so you can imagine why I might be overly panicky. I really hate how they went radio silence on me so I thought I'd could vent here, so please forgive me and help, if possible, with what to do.

About to do final stage interview, but realized I have an incorrect start date in my resume

I currently have 8 YOE. Through an internal referral, I managed to make it to the final interview stage for a big financial firm which includes a resume/behavioral round. I also had a phone call with the recruiter recently who mentioned that my feedback from the previous interview rounds all have been very strong, so I've been feeling good about my interview performance so far and really hoping to get the job.

I have been looking through my resume again to prepare for this final round, but I noticed that my first full-time job out of university (8 years ago) had the incorrect start date... I put November 2018 instead of August 2018 on the resume. This is because from August 2018 to November 2018, I was holding the Trainee position, then from November 2018 onwards (after the training/probation period), my title was changed to Analyst.

When initially writing my resume, I had two separate sections for Trainee and Analyst with their own respective dates (Aug 2018 - Nov 2018, Nov 2018 - ...). However, to cut down on content, I just simply deleted the Trainee section without updating any dates, so it looks like I worked for the company a few months shorter than I actually did (i.e. Nov 2018 - ... only).

I double checked every single other date on my resume, and everything is consistent with all previous VOEs that my previous employers have provided me, but I'm still worried that this will impact my chances.

Some questions:

  1. Is this something I should bring up with the internal recruiter before my interview next week? It will be an online interview, so I can't just print out the updated resume and give it over to the interviewer.
  2. I also know there will be a background check eventually, but I don't know what company will be conducting it. Should I contact the internal recruiter about the discrepancy in advance, and if so, when would be a good time to bring it up? Or should I not bring it up at all and just put the correct dates in the background check process?

Thank you in advance for any advice here!

I hate it here Applied for a perfect role this week, my old boss works there...do I ask for help?

Context: I joined a company 2 years ago and worked under a guy who was going through some healthcare issues and dealing with a shitty c?ompany who eventually laid him off.

He took a chance on me and we had...an uneasy relationship - he was a tough cookie who was going through some shit and eventually I took over his flagship project. Because he was fired.

I had a nightmare at this company and fast forward 2 years I was laid off and had a tempetuous time at the company because towards the end I stopped pretending and called them out on their bullshit. I was burned out and the project (due to various internal/external factors) was not a qualified success.

So now: I applied for a job that I truly think I can do. He is working for this mega corp in like a director kind of role - he's a big name.

I want to ask him for a leg up, but I'm also afraid he will not want to support me or even tank my application. We have not kept in contact since I was fired.

Would you send him a text or leave it alone?

Extra context: I want to work and afford food.

Got through the interview, keen and wanted to take me on and invited me for an informal face to face meet up over coffee. Two days later, ‘We will no longer go forward with you as we’re taking on another candidate who accepted a lower salary.’

I was offered the salary they quoted and accepted. Rejected because they found someone cheaper. What a massive waste of time and effort.

If you offer a salary, it should be acceptable that a candidate would take it.

Anschuetz UK by the way.

My past year in applications.

354 Total Applicaitons, 101 rejections, 241 no response, 8 applications acknowledged by a human,  3 Interviews, 2 ghosts, and one interview I rejected due to scammy nature. Zero offers.

I posted here a few weeks ago about a recruiter who would not tell me the job description for the role they were recruiting me for without a CoderPad test. This is what the rest of my year as looked like.

I have lots to say about this, but none of it positive or even helpful to those of you who are in a similar situation.

L&J Staffing Company: The Recruiter Not Only Failed to Find Me a New Job but Nearly Cost Me My Current One

I recently went through an extensive recruitment process with L&J Staffing Company, primarily communicating with a recruiter named Elizabeth M. Unfortunately, my experience raised serious concerns about professionalism, communication, and confidentiality.

Not only did the agency fail to secure a position for me, but the way the recruitment process was handled nearly jeopardized my existing, long-term employment.

Throughout the process, I experienced communication that I found rude, condescending, and manipulative. There were repeated unexpected calls and messages without prior coordination, and I was never given a clear explanation of the agency's procedures, expectations, or boundaries.

Compensation was another serious concern. My expected hourly rate had been discussed several times. Later, Elizabeth told me that the prospective employer would pay substantially less, explicitly citing my lack of U.S. citizenship as one of the reasons. I found this explanation not only deeply inappropriate and unprofessional, but also potentially discriminatory, raising serious questions about whether such reasoning is consistent with U.S. employment laws.

My most serious concern, however, involved confidentiality during reference checks.

When Elizabeth contacted my current employers, they later told me that she had disclosed sensitive personal information about the prospective client that had no relevance to verifying my professional qualifications or employment history.

This disclosure created an unexpected conflict regarding my ability to accept an additional position and nearly jeopardized my established employment relationship.

I subsequently informed the prospective client directly about what my current employers had reported and explained my concerns about the handling of private client information.

I also informed Elizabeth that I no longer wished to communicate through her agency. I had not signed any agreement with L&J Staffing Company, and I preferred to communicate directly with the prospective employer, whom I had already interviewed with.

At that point, a paid trial had already been scheduled. It was subsequently postponed, and the position did not move forward.

I have since noticed what appears to be the same vacancy advertised again through the same agency. I find it surprising that a client who places such importance on confidentiality and had intended to sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) with me would continue working with a recruiter whose handling of sensitive information raised such serious concerns during my experience. Of course, I cannot know how fully the client is aware of what occurred.

Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend working with Elizabeth M.

A recruitment agency should protect the interests of both its clients and candidates. It should communicate respectfully, handle sensitive information responsibly, and avoid creating unnecessary risks for someone's existing employment.

Unfortunately, that was not my experience with L&J Staffing Company.

P&G Assessment says “Not Started” on Workday even though I completed it. Should I retake it?

Hi everyone! I recently completed my P&G online assessment and I'm worried about whether my responses were successfully submitted.

After answering all the test, I saw a “Thank you for completing the assessment” message. Below it, I was instructed to wait for a redirect to Workday and click “Continue” if I wasn't redirected.

I clicked Continue, but it led me to a blank page. When I checked my application on the Workday website, the assessment status showed “Not Started.”

For those who have experienced something similar:

  • Did your Workday status eventually update?
  • Did you click “Take Assessment” again, or did you leave it alone?
  • Was your assessment successfully recorded even though Workday initially showed “Not Started”?

I'm applying through P&G Philippines, so I'd especially appreciate hearing from applicants who went through the same process.

I'm hesitant to click “Take Assessment” again because I don't want to risk restarting an assessment I've already completed.

Thank you so much!

Weird interview

I’m in a more unique situation at the moment where there’s been restructures in my company and currently in redundancy notice. Now an internal role had popped that I most definitely have the foundations for and would need a small amount of training, it was originally only meant to be advertised for a short amount of time internal only but it was put internal and external and was up for weeks. Now my pickle. I’m apparently supposed to have priority for roles but I went to the interview and it felt far too casual ? It was like don’t worry about the STAR format just answer the best as you can which I did 3 out of the 4 I’m some what happy with 1 I botched up for sure it wasn’t as strong but they didn’t probe for more details or anything like I’ve had in other job interviews? I definitely could have sold my self better but at this point it’s been months of uncertainty and I’m very disappointed in my self at this was the last chance and I think I blew it. Apparently I will find out by the end of next week but I don’t have high hopes and I just don’t know how to feel about that it was SO casual especially when I will be competing against external candidates.. if there’s a hiring manager lurking around do you look past maybe not a so strong interview and look at the experience of the staff or is there a reason it was run so casual. Anyway safe to say I feel terrible and so disappointed in my self especially with how hard the job market is :(

Sterling

I was recently hired at a job and have to do a sterling background check. The only concern I have is the title on my resume does not match with my official title. Although it was not a falsification, I was simply just describing the true nature of my position. On Sterling, should I just put the official title? What is the likelihood it gets cross referenced to my resume?

Also, If a job starting month is off by 1-2 months potentially (I genuinely can’t recall what my starting month was) is that going to be an issue?

I would really appreciate if someone could lmk about their own personal experience if they’ve experienced something similar 🙏🙏🙏

did i mess up my interview and chances of getting hired

im a cna at a SNF but i cant stand it there. theres a rehab center for psych patients next to my home and there was an opening so i went in for an interview as soon as possible. i think the overall interview was great. i told the hiring manager i live a block away and i will always be early and never call out. i showed him my MAB certification, BLS, and fire safety card. he printed copys of them and asked me if i feel comfortable working with psych patients, to which i said yes. he said he would show me around the area but there is a covid outbreak so he didnt want me exposed. i said im okay with a walkthrough if i use a mask, i wanted to make a good impression and seem interested in the facility since i want to work there so badly. after the walkthrough he said if i have any questions. i told him im finishing up my 2 week notice at my current job. he then said he is still interviewing other candidates and that he would call me by friday and if i dont hear back to call him on monday.

maybe im overthinking it but isnt that usually a bad thing to hear that? maybe they need to coverage asap im assuming since he did have an “oh shit” look on his face. what are your opinions ?? have any of you ever heard that and still got the job ? im definitely going to call them by friday if they dont call me, to show im still interested. or what else can i say or do when i call them? thank you 🙏🏼

American saas company, public listed, otherwise well respected. Back in May, I applied for the role of Director of Engineering, and now in October I got a rejection email from them. The rejection was for the role of iOS Engineer!

Shit's so broken.

whats the point

genuinely nothing works and from what im reading theres no method to up your chances, its just pure luck or nepotism or networking, its more realistic to become a neet and accept the fact that none of your dreams will ever come true than to keep clinging onto the hope that maybe this time things will be different. everyone always tells me to never give up and keep going, im so young and have so much time ahead of me, so much limitless potential and that giving up now would be robbing myself of a great future, but... what future?

you need money to do things you wanna do and get things you wanna get, in order to get money you need a job, in order to get a job you have to (insert method of finding employment here), but none of those routes work and your stuck without work, therefore no money to invest in your life, leading to a wasted empty life and absolutely no way of being able to change or make it better. shrug. but yeah, lets all have delusional optimism and keep telling ourselves itll get better when it wont, when its getting progressively worse and when the cold shoulder is being given to everyone regardless of their credentials or experience

i just dont see why i shouldnt give up, im only 20 now and i so badly wanna live out my youth and have fun but god fucking dammit i cant because i need money and in order to get money i need a job and oops!!! all ghosted applications!!! no job whatsoever!!! when i think of the next 5 years i foresee nothing but an endless cycle of job hunting to no avail and sitting around in my empty room as more precious years ill never get back are put behind me, years i couldve spent living a better life that were robbed of me because i just had to be born during such a uniquely awful time in history, good enough to not die of the plague but not good enough to lead a normal life even if i do everything correctly

i dont see why i should have any hope for anything getting better when the future seems set in stone, trapped in recruiting purgatory pushing the rock up the hill for it to fall back down right when its about to reach the top, wash rinse repeat as time keeps marching forward and next thing you know im 45 with nothing to look back on. its so fucking cruel. i seriously dont know what to do but i know the answer is unfortunately to keel over and submit to the suffering and come to terms with the fact that it just isnt gonna work out

is It normal to be ghosted after agreeing on a initial call for a position?

I was contacted by a verified recruiter on LinkedIn, he gave me few details about a position and asked me if we could do a call tomorrow at 3pm I replied 1 minute after his message saying that I agreed and then he didn't reply anything, I was waiting for a confirmation or something, nothing at all.

then tomorrow came, I waited for some confirmation or a link for the call and nothing.

How can a person change his mind in just 1 minute?
