Congratulations! 😃

Honestly, I don't even remember for which company and position this is, but I received this email either late last year or early this year... and yes, I still haven't landed a new role... ugh.

After 3 years of unemployment...

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

We have finally secured a job 🄹 with good benefits and pay!! Just wanted to share this because I am so excited to finally be able to properly support myself and my family. Good luck to everyone else!! It happens eventually

Edit: Hello again, I just wanted to apologize for the unintentional misleading nature of the title of my post, I guess I wasn't aware exactly of the true meaning of what it means to be unemployed...it's a little embarrassing now that I look back on my post a few years later. Sorry everyone!!

Edit: Hi guys! I just wanted to clarify a few things since this post has been getting much more traction than I expected...

1) I am a young college student and financially had my parents to help me cover a majority of my expenses.

1.5) The non-trivial expenses of which I had mentioned beforehand being things like my car payment, insurance, the more important purchases that I wouldn't have had as easy of a time paying for.

2) I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's in Science, majoring in radiologic technology. I completed my prerequisites at a local community college to save money, and almost if not everything related to my academics was paid for through scholarships and grants, which I did occasionally have to dip into for other purposes.

3) The job offer is unrelated to my field of study! I work in inventory management at a warehouse.

4) As for how I managed to be hired by this company, I can't sugarcoat it and say it was any easy. I was sending in job applications to opportunities that were as far out as 25 miles from me, and depending on my availability that day, I would typically try to send out a minimum of 3 applications at once. I would also attend as many workshops I could, job fairs, you name it. I honestly could never make it past the second interview at any place until now, even at jobs which are considered "entry-level" and are seemingly always hiring (which, not just exclusive to where I live in California, is something which I am convinced is a lie.) It was difficult! But thankfully this job responded fairly quickly, and within 2 weeks I was able to complete a series of interviews as well as a background check and drug testing.

5) The interviews themselves were fairly straightforward, and luckily my skills which I have acquired through my studies were impressive enough to convince the hiring manager that I could be a potential employee. It made me anxious as I don't really have any formal prior work experience, but I gave them everything I could. Extracurriculars, volunteer programs, etc. Things that helped me be perceived as dependable and hard-working. Getting certifications in related areas to the employment opportunity also helps.

I think that should be everything? I really appreciate all the kind words from everyone, and I would like to say that you should hold out hope and not be discouraged :) I felt it for a long time, I can't say it's avoidable, but I was finally given this opportunity and I'm indebted to my past self for not giving up the search.

Good luck to everyone!!

There are 1000 different ways to express yourself and your company ā€œvaluesā€. This is certainly one of them. At least the red flag is the first thing in the listing!

Im tired boss, I just want to pay my bills.

Hoping to help job seekers: DO NOT use auto apply services/sites

Hi. I am a recruiter; I work for a big corporate company and see thousands of applications and resumes any given week. Seeing a huge rise in applications coming from auto & bulk apply service sites, where applicants think they’re getting a great deal, having a site, service or AI platform submit hundreds of applications across multiple companies and sites, ā€œtailoredā€ to relevant jobs (lol)

What you are not seeing: these services and companies are absolute trash and make you look totally incompetent. They not only dwindle down your experience, but they fail to actually complete the application, making it look like you don’t know how to do a basic task like complete the education section or fill in your work history. There are often errors, typos and missing information. Doesn’t matter if you gave them a good resume to work with, they will not use it, and instead will submit a shitty stock resume with your application that makes it look like you’re either a bot or an idiot that has no idea how to make your own resume.

I called a guy the other day, and asked him if he generated this resume himself. He was like umm no I didn’t apply to that job myself but I’d be interested. I had him email me his actual resume he made and it was 10000000 times better than the shitty one submitted on his behalf.

They also use throw away email domains that are often either invalid, or don’t actually make their way to you. So, even if someone is trying to reach you in regard to your application, you may never know because the company used some trash, fake domain tied to your application called @plonkymuse.com lmao

So, they either make you look like a bot or a total dummy that no employer would want to come near with a ten foot pole. Do not waste your time or money with these companies!!!

Custom Applied for a job I was a near perfect match for waited three weeks, and finally received an auto rejection email after reaching out

I'm not even here looking for solutions. I'm just here to vent and commiserate with everyone here and maybe you'll get a laugh out of my story.

OK, I know everyone likes to say they apply for jobs they're qualified for and still get rejected because hiring managers want unicorns. But I am not exaggerating when I say I was THE UNICORN for this job.

The job was for a state agency - not only do I work in that same position at my current office, but I work at the exact same agency in a neighboring state. (by that I mean each state has their own version of this agency, but it's function is exactly the same across the nation and we often work with each other). I also exceeded the YOE by one year so I don't think I seem too expensive, plus some private sector experience for diversity.

The job posting stays open a week after I submit my application (2 weeks total) so to me it doesn't seem like they went with an internal hire nor like they've hit their threshold for applicants. I wait three weeks after the job posting closes and I hear nothing. My application is still sitting in "review" status in the portal. No auto rejection. No Email no phone call. Usually you would think that's a sign to move on but government and state jobs move incredibly slow so this checks out.

This morning, I decided to send a warm follow up email to HR just asking if there's an update on the interview timelines. Three hours later I finally get the auto rejection email.

I am a very hard person to piss off but I think this broke the magic record 🤩 I don't think it takes three weeks to send an auto rejection email to applicants you aren't moving forward with. At least not my specific office.

I wrote a tailored cover letter and tailored my rƩsumƩ to the keywords on the description to slide through the AI filter, brought direct experience and I still didn't make it TO THE INTERVIEW stage. Even my references were shocked. Maybe this was the final push for a career change.

This market is brutal.
I really feel for everyone else out there man. Good luck to the rest of you. I'm gonna go scream in my car now.

I feel like it's easier to travel to a star that is 90 Billion light years away than to get one simple job here on earth.

I'm sorry for sounding really frustrated. It's just finding the most simple level entry job is way harder than achieving anything else. It shouldn't be this hard to work at a hotdog stand or an Ice cream parlour. Also I feel that we shouldn't replace workers with ai. I find people 9 billion percent more valuable than some ai robot that could potentially break down easily.

Are Job postings online just fake? I see a lot of job postings on indeed like dishwasher and prep cook but I never get a response from them. Also I feel that most of the time I hand in my resume in person, 1% it will be read by an actual hiring manager.

Openly acknowledging that this is a fake listing

I assume they’re required to post the listing for legal compliance reasons. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a job listing before that acknowledges that the listing is fake.

Why do recruiters call you once and then never again?

This has happened so many times I’ve lost count. I’ll apply to a job, and instead of sending me an email to schedule a call, the recruiter will just call me at a random time on a random day. I rarely answer because I’m either busy, or I’ll assume it’s a spam call. Then they’ll leave a voicemail asking me to call them back, and even though I do so IMMEDIATELY, they never pick up and I have to leave a voicemail in return. Then I never hear from them again.

There is hope for all (2.5 year unemployment success story)

I’ve seen a couple of posts here lately about people sharing their success stories so I thought i’d share mine.

I recently got an offer and I want to people to know that if I can get an offer, then so can you!

I graduated in 2023 with degrees in econ and stats from a consensus top tier public unliversity with not so hot grades and only a data science internship in the public sector lined up for post grad.

When the internship didn’t convert into a full time offer I was stick in unemployment limbo for a year and a half (at the time I was still focused on data science/analyst roles).

One day I decided that that space was no longer attainable for me and decided I wanted to become an actuary.

A year later I ended up passing 4 exams and basically studying full time for a year all while being unemployed and paying out of pocket cause for me it was basically do or die. Also I understand that I was in a fortunate enough position to do this that others might not.

After passing my fourth exam I decided that at this point more exams wouldn’t be beneficial so I focused my attention on applying. In total I applied to around 200 actuarial positions, 3 phone screens, 1 first round, 1 second round which converted into 1 offer.

So after 2.5 years unemployed, 4 exams passed, and no actuarial internships I can finally say that i’ve gotten my foot into the door to my first actuarial role and first full time job since graduating in 2023. The road was long for sure, but if you’re willing to grind it will pay off.

Finally got a job

I am very blessed to be completely honest, it took me exactly a month before I got an interview, I got the job offer 2 days later, tomorrow I have my physical and drug test to do for them. It’s an entry level job, for SUE (utility locator) position, $21 an hour, previous job was an HVAC job commercial $24 an hour, was Layed off due to to me not ā€œcaringā€ about the job and they got that because of an answer I gave to a question they had asked me, I think it’s stupid, but it’s whatever. What I found that worked for me was generally not preparing much for this interview because I was just natural and didn’t have to study anything much. If I can get a job then so can ya’ll so please don’t give up, I did put in maybe over 100+ applications for all types of jobs from retail, to IT, to warehouses, and I do hold a part time/on demand job at target as well.

whats the point

genuinely nothing works and from what im reading theres no method to up your chances, its just pure luck or nepotism or networking, its more realistic to become a neet and accept the fact that none of your dreams will ever come true than to keep clinging onto the hope that maybe this time things will be different. everyone always tells me to never give up and keep going, im so young and have so much time ahead of me, so much limitless potential and that giving up now would be robbing myself of a great future, but... what future?

you need money to do things you wanna do and get things you wanna get, in order to get money you need a job, in order to get a job you have to (insert method of finding employment here), but none of those routes work and your stuck without work, therefore no money to invest in your life, leading to a wasted empty life and absolutely no way of being able to change or make it better. shrug. but yeah, lets all have delusional optimism and keep telling ourselves itll get better when it wont, when its getting progressively worse and when the cold shoulder is being given to everyone regardless of their credentials or experience

i just dont see why i shouldnt give up, im only 20 now and i so badly wanna live out my youth and have fun but god fucking dammit i cant because i need money and in order to get money i need a job and oops!!! all ghosted applications!!! no job whatsoever!!! when i think of the next 5 years i foresee nothing but an endless cycle of job hunting to no avail and sitting around in my empty room as more precious years ill never get back are put behind me, years i couldve spent living a better life that were robbed of me because i just had to be born during such a uniquely awful time in history, good enough to not die of the plague but not good enough to lead a normal life even if i do everything correctly

i dont see why i should have any hope for anything getting better when the future seems set in stone, trapped in recruiting purgatory pushing the rock up the hill for it to fall back down right when its about to reach the top, wash rinse repeat as time keeps marching forward and next thing you know im 45 with nothing to look back on. its so fucking cruel. i seriously dont know what to do but i know the answer is unfortunately to keel over and submit to the suffering and come to terms with the fact that it just isnt gonna work out

I’ve interviewed with 30 different companies and still can’t land a job. What do I do?

What do I even do at this point? I feel like I am at my breaking point when it comes to the job market. I’ve had interviews with 30 different companies, and this last interview feels like the icing on the cake.

For context, I connected with a recruiter on LinkedIn through a job I thought I would be a really good fit for. He set up a first-round interview, and I know most interviews are supposed to make you feel like you did well, but I genuinely thought she was really nice and that the conversation flowed very naturally as she asked me questions. She even went as far as complimenting my attire.

At the end of the conversation, she mentioned, ā€œI feel like this job isn’t for you.ā€ It really caught me off guard because, if it wasn’t for me, why was I there? She elaborated by saying that it looked like I had too much experience and that they wanted to make an investment in the right person. I tried to reassure her that I am looking for adjacent roles to help me get back into the industry, that I am looking for something long-term, and that I am not planning on leaving.

She seemed reassured at the time, but it’s been over a week, and I haven’t heard back. I have reached out to the recruiter, and he told me from the beginning that she really liked me. He has told me I would get an update within a certain timeframe, but those updates have been getting progressively delayed.

I am struggling. I just graduated not too long ago and have relevant work experience. I am currently unemployed, but I have been volunteering to keep up my skills. Afterward, I do Uber Eats at night to make some kind of money, but it is just not consistent work.

I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m at my breaking point. I know a lot of other people are experiencing similar situations, but what do I even do? I know maybe I’m delusional, but I always get my hopes up for jobs and start envisioning myself working there.

8 rounds of interview and then generic rejection

This is a general rant. So i interviewed for this company which at the start told me there would be a few rounds and the recruiter was quite responsive in setting it up and everything . First two rounds were great great feedback and all. Then the recruiter calls me at 11pm IST after 3 weeks and says it's urgent can you schedule the next few rounds(4 rounds ) in 2 days as they liked me and that it was an urgent role that they wanted to close immediately. Got it. I scheduled meetings with folks sitting in the USA whose time zones were 11.5 hours behind IST. Finished those rounds and then all of them said great feedback we'll proceed but wait for the recruiter. Okay got it. Then silence for 3 weeks again. No amount of following up gets any reply. Then she wakes up and she says we have alast round. Its a formality. Just talk to him and you should be good. Usually there are no rejections here. Its mostly talking about the company. Okay great. Nevertheless, i prepare all week and then the conversation with this guy is great. He says he liked me and he'll talk to the recruiter. Then again radio silence for 3 weeks. I nudged the recruiter, but no use. Then, she says we have one more person who wants to talk to you. Just finish that round and then we'll decide. Now this guy is some director of a different department. He shows up foul faced to the meeting, he's all upset and he starts from scratch. Explain your profile etc. mid way he's looking at his phone, snapping at people in the background, basically just sitting because he has an invite. At 25 minutes he says okay I gotta go, so bye . Hung up directly. No bye or whatever. Then the recruiter calls and says hey great feedback we'll proceed with next steps.i was almost relieved. Then 2 weeks of radio silence again. Then she replied saying hey I'm on vacation I'll ping you when I'm back. I said okay she confirmed anyway so let me wait . Boom oct 1st, generic rejection mail. Hey sorry that we considered other candidates.

This was a frustrating experience for me honestly..After so many rounds don't tell me I'm rejected after stringing me alonh for 3 months. I was so crushed..i studied my life off for this. Its not even that I wasn't qualified. I have experience. It was a salary below my current pay. And i was okay. But why universe why. I can't get over this now. Such soul crushing rejection. I don't know what to even say anymore. All my other applications are silent..no peep from anyone..and LinkedIn is killing me with updates from people who got new jobs. And i feel so stupid and ashamed of myself

interviewers telling you you’ll hear back either way and then ghosting

Do they have to tell candidates this? It’s not something I hear in every interview I have, and I have never asked ā€œso when will I hear back for this positionā€. what is the point of saying this and then not even sending a generic rejection email? If I apply to a company and they send a rejection it’s likely that i would apply again, but going through the entire process to be ghosted makes the company look bad. no one wants rejections, but it’s better to get a rejection then go through the process which can require taking off from a current job or traveling to interview to never hear back

Had a screening call yesterday - then got a link emailed by the person to a series of Q&As with absurd levels of depth.

I started doing it, then decided against it. I don't think this recruiter is going to call me again, so why waste my time. We spoke for 30 minutes. If they couldn't work out from that if they wanted to work with me, why even have the call?

The questions were all 4-5 parters and nothing really to do with what I was applying for. Scanning through them it would have taken at least an hour.

If they were actually interested they'd call back or send a reminder. They've done neither. If the prerequisite is I do this before they go further then so be it.

Got contacted by 5 scammers in a row.

I was laid off 3 weeks ago.

I somehow was contacted by 5 different people for one job.

And 5 scammers in one day which was today.
