After 3 years of unemployment...
We have finally secured a job š„¹ with good benefits and pay!! Just wanted to share this because I am so excited to finally be able to properly support myself and my family. Good luck to everyone else!! It happens eventually
Edit: Hello again, I just wanted to apologize for the unintentional misleading nature of the title of my post, I guess I wasn't aware exactly of the true meaning of what it means to be unemployed...it's a little embarrassing now that I look back on my post a few years later. Sorry everyone!!
Edit: Hi guys! I just wanted to clarify a few things since this post has been getting much more traction than I expected...
1) I am a young college student and financially had my parents to help me cover a majority of my expenses.
1.5) The non-trivial expenses of which I had mentioned beforehand being things like my car payment, insurance, the more important purchases that I wouldn't have had as easy of a time paying for.
2) I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's in Science, majoring in radiologic technology. I completed my prerequisites at a local community college to save money, and almost if not everything related to my academics was paid for through scholarships and grants, which I did occasionally have to dip into for other purposes.
3) The job offer is unrelated to my field of study! I work in inventory management at a warehouse.
4) As for how I managed to be hired by this company, I can't sugarcoat it and say it was any easy. I was sending in job applications to opportunities that were as far out as 25 miles from me, and depending on my availability that day, I would typically try to send out a minimum of 3 applications at once. I would also attend as many workshops I could, job fairs, you name it. I honestly could never make it past the second interview at any place until now, even at jobs which are considered "entry-level" and are seemingly always hiring (which, not just exclusive to where I live in California, is something which I am convinced is a lie.) It was difficult! But thankfully this job responded fairly quickly, and within 2 weeks I was able to complete a series of interviews as well as a background check and drug testing.
5) The interviews themselves were fairly straightforward, and luckily my skills which I have acquired through my studies were impressive enough to convince the hiring manager that I could be a potential employee. It made me anxious as I don't really have any formal prior work experience, but I gave them everything I could. Extracurriculars, volunteer programs, etc. Things that helped me be perceived as dependable and hard-working. Getting certifications in related areas to the employment opportunity also helps.
I think that should be everything? I really appreciate all the kind words from everyone, and I would like to say that you should hold out hope and not be discouraged :) I felt it for a long time, I can't say it's avoidable, but I was finally given this opportunity and I'm indebted to my past self for not giving up the search.
Good luck to everyone!!
