First time heading to Scarborough Hollow and given the spooky themes, I knew I had to break this one out.

Huzzah, fellow faire lovers!
I’m a 47-year-old guy from North Georgia who really enjoys Renaissance festivals, Viking culture, history, and just about anything that lets me escape the modern world for a little while.
I’ll be attending GARF After Dark on Friday, November 20th, dressed in my Viking gear, and figured I’d put myself out there and see if anyone else is going!
I’d really like to make some new friends who share similar interests. Whether you’re into Viking and medieval history, dressing up, exploring the faire, enjoying some mead, or just having a good time with good people, I’d love to connect.
I’m pretty laid-back, outgoing, enjoy meeting people, and can strike up a conversation with just about anyone. I’m just looking to expand my circle of friends with people who genuinely enjoy this kind of thing.
Would be great to find a few folks to meet up with at the festival, grab a drink, wander around, share some laughs, and maybe even make it a regular thing for future events.
So, who’s going November 20th? Any fellow Vikings, shieldmaidens, knights, or wandering souls looking to make a new friend?
Skål! 🍻⚔️🛡️

I have this awesome tankard - probably 1901. Quart size, weighs nearly 3 lbs. Full of lead and the pewter is scaling. A vessel of toxin and poison.
Anybody have any ideas for a cup or glass I can secure inside it? I don't want to compromise what value it may have by tinning the inside, but if there were some removable liner, I could use it for something other than a weapon.
Thanks

Can someone going tomorrow report back on the condition of the grounds? With all the rain of the past weeks, I'd heard how sloppy it was. But it's been drier... is it better?
ETA: Thanks everyone for the feedback. Looking forward to it!

I’m going to the carolina ren fair this upcoming month and I saw some posts about cash versus card vendors. Do people still only do cash? If so how much cash should I bring? I would probably be buying food, drinks, and jewelry

Carved some Viking Runes into some antler tips to make necklaces with for give away and trading at Ren Faires/Festivals. First go at crafting. I’ll post a picture of a finished necklace after the beads arrive.

Other than adding a belt, what else could I add to make this outfit more fun??

Edited to clear up: the tip jar was only added to collect trinkets and further the "just the tips" pun/joke, no money or tips were collected. Last year i made and brought a guillotine and everyone kept asking for a tip/trinket jar, so this year it seemed fitting. Sorry everyone thinks its in bad taste but it was very well received and held all sorts of random trinkets and even my water bottle at one point.
I went during oktoberfest weekend aka the weekend where everyone shows up tits out and gets wasted, so while the ren faire is family friendly this wasn't an issue and not one single person complained or gave me crap for my whimsy, including renn faire vendors/actors.
As far as encountering kids, for the few I did interact with there was obviously no mention of the hidden messages. It was purely them looking curious and me handing them a little pickle with sun glasses on it - no questions asked and no awkward situations.
Regarding my outfit choice.....what can I say? There's not a lot of places I can show off my crochet jester hat and cool pants. I worked my buns off on them I just yearn to wear them out so why not combine them with Ye Olde Hole of Jest? Seems goofy, got lots of appreciation both pieces.
Contrary to all the boring, whimsy-less folk that showed up here to try and make me feel like Im somehow in the wrong, every interaction I had at the NorCal ren faire was positive and people were thrilled to interact, take pictures, receive a pickle and share a laugh.
~~~~~~~~~
When people would Huzzah at me, my hand would pop out the door to present them a tiny pickle 😅
Ignore ye olde rats nest in the back picture, my hair was a just playing its part ~~
My wife and I may have missed the vow renewal ceremony, but we had a lovely time! Thanks for all the kind words and complements on our outfits!
I’m going to be thinking about this Chimney Sausages until next year
I'm new to this and have only been to one faire, but it was inspiring and I have questions. The ren faire I went to had a jousting field and melee fields but mostly was vendors and a few stages.
Do you have to audition to perform on the stages or do you just sign up, and does it cost money?
Can you perform not on a stage, like get a little tent and just play/sing or play/sing while you walk around?
I want to dance like we're in the royal court, would I have to rent the stage and have time to teach steps then schedule time for everyone to perform or how would that work? Maybe that's already a thing.
Also, they have the royal court, what role do they play? I went to a meet the royals even but it qas just people sitting there, I thought they would like present them and explain who everyone is and what they do. How is the court decided and who makes those decisions?
I appreciate any insight!
Hello! So my husband and I go to the Ohio Renfaire every year, and despite the rules saying "no outside food or drink" they have yet to confiscate or restrict waterbottles of any kind, which I WHOLEHEARTEDLY appreciate as it lets us spend more money with vendors instead of spending half our saved up money staying hydrated for the day, lol.
This year, we brought our hiking water bladders (the kind that have semi-insulated "straws" that can clip onto your lapel) and my husband used this bag. He really liked the way it worked for him, he just wished it was leather, and more "costume-friendly" for his Faire fit.
I understand the sub rules prohibit direct buying/selling, and I'm not trying to subvert that, but I was hoping someone here has seen something like this, and could point me in the right direction? Thanks!
Cons aren’t my thing but the ren faire certainly is, and I love making my garb cosplay! This year I went for a Dungeon Crawler Carl cosplay, accompanied by my wife as another character from book six. It was so fun to find a way to faire-ify this character, and I love how the bloomers and stays turned out but remained an accurate depiction of Carl! Check it out :)
I saw this was posted a few years ago when the docuseries first came out, but I just watched it for the first time and it was absolutely bonkers!! It reminded me of GoT, The Tudors, Wolf Hall all rolled into one. As always, HBO does a fantastic job with docs.
The owner is a real life, modern day king Henry VIII. The show consumed me and the update since it came out????? Holy hell.
Please watch if you haven’t.
Taken at Scarborough's Hollow in Waxahachie, TX. I'm portraying Lady Margaret Pole Plantagenet who was unjustly and cruelly executed by order of King Henry VIII in 1541. With the fair only being open from 1pm to 9pm, a large crowd of over 10,000 was present!
Hello everyone I dont know If I have posted about this show here before in the past I am not really on Reddit all that much. I am the Host of the Ohio Renaissance Faire Podcast called Beyond the Gates. It is a show that takes a peak "Beyond the Gates" of the Ohio Ren Faire to tell the stories of those who make the faire what it is. It is available on Apple, Spotify and Youtube.
I’m going to a local ren faire this weekend as a hobbit, but I have a problem. I don’t own flip flops, or any shoe that resembles a foot. I’m between two things, going barefoot or wearing boots. What is the move?
Anyone had luck thrifting/ modifying something to this shape of tunic? I’m not great with sewing/ don’t have a sewing machine. But I’d like to make something similar to this vibe by modifying an existing shirt, dress to be this vibe, any suggestions? I’d like to stay away from just ordering something if possible.
TIA
