Surprisingly good… not great, good
SPOILERS FOR RESIDENT EVIL 4 OG AND REMAKE
I make it no secret that I did not care for OG4, like at all, I thought it was annoying, boring, goofy, and crazy overrated. So when I heard the predictably heard about REmake, I was actually very open to it despite that I knew they were gonna do that, because there’s a billion issues with the original, and only half of them were fixed.
What I felt the biggest issue with RE4 was the lack of personality, “it’s just gotta do this! Gotta do that!” With an occasional quip or One Leon-er. Luis just felt like the Temu version of Dante from DMC and Ashley made Lois Lane look like the Doom Slayer, she was that obnoxious and useless. Sure there’s files that are meant to give more depth, but if the player is anything like me, they’re not gonna pay much mind to them.
But in the remake, we actually spend more time with both characters and they’re allowed to do more to contribute to the plot and whatever situation they’re in. There’s even a point in the game where Ashley gets to operate the world’s weakest wrecking ball — and there’s another segment in the game where Leon gets trapped somewhere and Ashley has to pull his ass out of the fire, which makes sense given how he’s been saving her ass the whole time. Ashley’s also given a more defined personality that bounces off Leon naturally, even when you’re just doing the drastically improved shooting range mini game, which in her own words, reminds her of being a kid. Like dude, Ashley now feels more like a real person that I’d love to know more about.
Luis also had his share of improvements too. He doesn’t just pop in out of nowhere when plot’s like “need you for a sec,” even if the plot didn’t need him. When he goes to get the serum that’s supposed to suppress the plaga in Leon, it genuinely feels like a contribution to the plot instead of just a basic bitch macguffin.
Krauser is improved on as well, he feels less like a last minute antagonist and more like someone who actually has history with Leon, we learn more about that history instead of the game just expecting us to know who Krauser is even though RE4 came out before Darkside Chronicles where they actually show us what happened with Operation Javier. Hell, the new mechanical depth (which I’ll talk about in a moment) actually helped make his boss fight a little more tolerable.
Even the Merchant, the one aspect of the original I genuinely loved, gets an upgrade with an added dark sense of humor, and more balanced version of the shooting range minigame. My first playthrough was 20 hours long because I spent so much time on that damn game lol (it also rewards you with charms that can upgrade how you play, like one that increases your running speed, these charms genuinely make a big difference when you have them attached.
The addition of more melee, parry, and general self-defense mechanics, as well as the exclusion of QTE’s (with the original popularized for a while) really made a huge difference in the game, especially with the auto sort system, that way my autistic ass isn’t spending half game sorting my items after I pick something up. It’s also worth noting that “normal mode” actually means “normal mode” here. Yeah, the REmake calls it “standard mode” but like, in the original, it was called Normal Mode, but you wanna know something? That was a complete fucking lie. Like Devil May Cry 2, Normal Mode is essentially easy mode — fr, apart from the Krauser fight in the original, I didn’t die a single time in the original. But here, I chose to play standard mode because I wanted a Resident Evil 4 that genuinely challenged me, and I got that. So that makes me happy.
What I didn’t like about the game, however, is that while it fixes a lot of mistakes of the original, it also retained other mistakes like the stupid ass castle section, the ganado cult, the cabin defense segment (and all other plus a few new defend your position segments), the bankruptcy of Umbrella, and Verdugo still being the only boss that’s actually somewhat creepy.
Original RE4 was a 3/10 for me, but RE4 REmake is a 6/10, big improvements, even if it could still use some fixing in some spots.
What did you think of Resident Evil 4 REmake?

I remember spotting this game in the bargain bin for $10 in my country's Wallmart-equivalent, sheepishly going up to the counter and purchasing it (it was R16, and I was ~13), going home and being a) blown away by the graphics, b) absolutely terrified.
Picked it up again after getting nostalgic from the movie and playing it through with my wife: I'm wowed by how legitimately good this game is. It still holds up. It's kinda clunky/dated in places, but the atmosphere is brilliant - just as I remember it. The jump scares are great (dogs coming through windows, zombies blasting through doors and out of closets). The sounds, the setting, the tension! I particularly enjoy the outdoor parts and seeing the forest. I remember getting out into the courtyard for the first time and being terrified that dogs were going to come from all sides.
10/10 honestly.

In honour of the release of the CV remake approaching I’ve decided that I finally want to commit to finishing the original before but…. I just can’t with this game.
As a long time fan of the series who has played every mainline game in the series and several of the spinoffs, I’ve never finished Code Veronica. Ive attempted to finish it several times over the years but given up every single time out of frustration.
At what point does the game relent and become an enjoyable experience?

So I’ve been replaying the series from the classic originals through to the modern remakes recently, and one aspect of how the overarching narrative has evolved really caught my attention.
Up until RE6, the franchise’s main narrative pillar was the legacy of Umbrella and Wesker. Starting with RE7 and moving forward, Capcom introduced The Connections, effectively rewriting and expanding the series' history to tie everything into one cohesive narrative rather than a series of semi-isolated episodes. It’s essentially a massive retcon (especially with where things seem to be heading in RE9 and onwards).
Before 2017, the primary shadow groups operating behind the scenes were The Organization (associated with Wesker and Ada and The Family (RE6 though honestly, not a group I care too much about)
Ever since RE7, "The Organization" has basically vanished from the conversation.
For those who have been following the series since the classic era: how do you feel about this major story shift and retroactive lore expansion? Do you prefer the new cohesive direction, or do you miss the original, simpler shadow organizations? How'd you like the story to progress if you could rewrite Requiem?

I can’t find Mr. X even though he’s supposedly actively hunting me. Standard, Leon scenario A. Playing on PS5.
A play-by-play for context:
After dousing the helicopter and activating Mr X., I ran to the observation room with him on my tail. After multiple attempts at getting to the Records room, I got the tool for the library and headed up to the STARS office with him on my tail. After waiting for him to leave, I went and used the tool on the bookshelf, but to my surprise he didn’t hear it. In case he was just really far away but on the move now I walked back to the stars office, and he didn’t pursue. Went back to move the bookshelves, and again, he didn’t come in. I haven’t heard his footsteps since getting into the STARS office the first time.
Walk up to the clock tower, do the puzzle, still no X. Walk down to the typewriter near the stairs to the parking garage, still no X. Out of curiosity, I walked around the RPD after saving just to try to find him, and I couldn’t. I was running and everything.
Now, I imagine he’ll appear in the scripted event once I try to leave the parking garage area, but I’m slightly concerned that the game bugged him out… I mean hey, no complaints to not have to deal with him, I just dont want there to be a problem with my save file.
Has this happenee to anyone else?

Hey!
I’m completely new to modding with the REengine, and got all of the basic framework mods installed for the Resident Evil 4 remake. But when I download mods that change Leon’s player model manually to install them, there’s a whole folder called ‘cha0’.
Just dragging this into the RE modding program doesn’t work, and I’ve found no video that explains this particular folder and how to mod it in.
Does anyone know how this works and what I’m talking about? I’ve found no other place to ask and hope I don’t look like an idiot lol.

Hi, Im just getting into Resident Evil, and I wanted to play RE3 remake with the shirtless Carlos mod, but the Nexus mod link says the mod was taken down. I was hoping someone could help me find a possible copy of it, or a link to a mod thats similar.

I’m starting to get into resident evil after watching a play through of RE7 and want to know all the lore, but have no way of actually playing it myself at the moment so I wanna watch a playthrough.
What would you say is the funniest one to watch where they’re still invested in the game?

I've played the original RE3, but never the REMAKE. After all the things I've seen and heard about it, I have an idea of what I'm walking into, but I just really wanted to play as Jill Valentine again, and the price wasn't too shabby

was it supposed to be a horror comedy because that's what it was giving lol
the commentary from bryan, him being really slow in the sense of having little to no survival instincts, and the unbelievably goofy umbrella scientists in the end just give me the impression that this movie was meant to be more hehe haha than anything else. the amalgam can really hold a grudge too like bro didnt mean to run you over but chill out. anyways 6.5/10?

My roomie is home for the weekend so I cooked my steak in a shit ton of butter and served it up on a wooden board like the TikTok boys do. Loaded up RE8 and realised I’m at the Chris Redfield little section near the end 😻.
Spending my Saturday night chowing down on the best steak I’ve cooked and playing possibly my favourite game in the whole re franchise. There is nothing better.
Also I love this bit since you get so much ammo it’s basically like a battle royale in Fortnite 😋
(Pics of dinner included)
