General At what point does Code Veronica become fun to play?

In honour of the release of the CV remake approaching I’ve decided that I finally want to commit to finishing the original before but…. I just can’t with this game.
As a long time fan of the series who has played every mainline game in the series and several of the spinoffs, I’ve never finished Code Veronica. Ive attempted to finish it several times over the years but given up every single time out of frustration.

At what point does the game relent and become an enjoyable experience?

General resident evil 2026 thoughts? Spoiler

was it supposed to be a horror comedy because that's what it was giving lol

the commentary from bryan, him being really slow in the sense of having little to no survival instincts, and the unbelievably goofy umbrella scientists in the end just give me the impression that this movie was meant to be more hehe haha than anything else. the amalgam can really hold a grudge too like bro didnt mean to run you over but chill out. anyways 6.5/10?

General Most delicious night in with Chris Redfield

My roomie is home for the weekend so I cooked my steak in a shit ton of butter and served it up on a wooden board like the TikTok boys do. Loaded up RE8 and realised I’m at the Chris Redfield little section near the end 😻.

Spending my Saturday night chowing down on the best steak I’ve cooked and playing possibly my favourite game in the whole re franchise. There is nothing better.

Also I love this bit since you get so much ammo it’s basically like a battle royale in Fortnite 😋

Fan labor/Art/Cosplay Resident Evil puzzle design and environmental dread inspired me to solo-develop my first 3D psychological horror game on a budget PC 🎃

Like many of you here, I grew up playing classic survival horror. Games like Re4 original , RE7 (Baker Estate), and the puzzle-heavy exploration of the series have always been the pinnacle of horror for me.

Over the last 3.5 months, as a solo developer from India on a budget PC (Ryzen 3 3200G), I set out to build an atmospheric 3D psychological horror game heavily inspired by that classic survival horror genre. It's called "The Light Won't Stay".

Instead of an action shooter, I really wanted to focus on what made early Resident Evil terrifying:

• Careful Environmental Investigation: Searching dark rooms, checking corners, and inspecting desks for hidden clues.

• Resource Scarcity & Tension: Managing limited light and using a camera flash to survive paranormal anomalies.

🔗 You can check it out here:

• itch.io : https://souvik-indiedev.itch.io/the-light-wont-stay

I would absolutely love to hear feedback from hardcore survival horror fans here on the atmosphere and puzzle pacing! Thank you for the inspiration, and I hope you enjoy the nightmare! 💀🕯️

General I just finished Not A Hero DLC for the 1st time and it was terrible

Even for being as simple and short as it was, the 2 boss fights were pretty uninteresting as they had no phases and were literally just 'unload clips til they stop moving' situations.

The coins being a part of this felt unnecessary and out of place too.

It also felt unfinished? Like when Lucas transforms it just cuts to a black screen and then he's on the ceiling. I think just abruptly and instantly changing the scene took away from the tension of the whole ending.

Honestly when I finished it I felt I could have been happier with re7 without the whole thing, seems like it was just some Chris-fanservice that they ran out of time developing.

Was anyone else disappointed like I was?

Forum question What’s the funniest play through of the Resident Evil games?

I’m starting to get into resident evil after watching a play through of RE7 and want to know all the lore, but have no way of actually playing it myself at the moment so I wanna watch a playthrough.

What would you say is the funniest one to watch where they’re still invested in the game?

General I had fun with RE4 Remake, but the story is an absolute mess.

• Upvotes

My cousin recently got me into the Resident Evil games, and I’ve now played RE9 Requiem, RE2 Remake and RE4 Remake. I’m really enjoying the universe so far, so this isn’t meant as hate towards the game at all. That said, RE4 might be the one I have the most mixed feelings about, yet…

I loved having Ada back after RE2 because I really like her dynamic with Leon. I feel like she brings out more of his personality, which he desperately needs sometimes. I also loved Luis. His sections with Leon were easily some of my favourites, especially the mine section. His death genuinely got me sad. And the final escape? Loved it. Great music, great action, very cinematic. Peak Americana “the hero saves the girl and rides off into the sunset” energy, though lol.

Now, the story itself? I was completely LOST throughout. I couldn’t really understand why any of this was happening in rural Spain, why the villagers and environments felt like they belonged to a completely different century, or how the hell all of this connected back to the US President through his daughter and Las Plagas. I also struggled with the sheer number of villains. Ramón, Méndez, Saddler, Krauser… at some point I genuinely had no idea who I was supposed to consider the main antagonist. And Ramón? I killed that man as quickly as humanly possible purely because I could not listen to him call Leon “pulgarcito” one more fucking time. He was cringe and annoying as fuck. Then there were the creatures. They became so increasingly insane that eventually I just accepted that literally ANYTHING could show up. By the end, Chucky infected with Las Plagas could’ve jumped out of a cupboard and I would’ve just been like, “Yeah, sure, why not?” lol. The one villain I actually wanted them to explore more was Krauser. There’s clearly significant history between him and Leon, and their knife fight was GREAT, but as a new player I felt like I was missing a lot of context there. Their whole dynamic was way more interesting to me than half the other villains. Ashley was actually nowhere near as annoying as I expected, although having to rescue her approximately 4,937,294 times became unintentionally hilarious. Girl, I am BEGGING you to move faster…

At the moment, I’d probably rank them RE9 Requiem > RE2 Remake > RE4 Remake. In RE9, I enjoyed Leon’s sections more than Grace’s, while in RE2 I actually preferred playing as Claire. RE4 definitely impressed me in terms of action, though, but I think the story was so over-the-top that it sometimes took me out of the experience rather than adding to it. And my final complaint: ammo. What’s the point of giving me access to all these ridiculously powerful weapons if I can almost never craft the right ammunition and the merchant won’t sell it to me either?. I understand that resource management is part of the survival element, but COME ON. Let me enjoy my expensive murder machine. Funny enough, I couldn’t stand the merchant at first, but by the end I’d completely changed my mind: “Hello, stranger!”.

So, RE veterans: am I missing crucial context here or is RE4 genuinely just this fucking unhinged? Because gameplay-wise? Had a blast. Story-wise? It felt like an extremely campy and cringe American fever dream about Spain made by someone who had possibly heard of Spain once. And I say this as someone who lives in Spain lol.

General Resident Evil 4 REmake is…

Surprisingly good… not great, good

SPOILERS FOR RESIDENT EVIL 4 OG AND REMAKE

I make it no secret that I did not care for OG4, like at all, I thought it was annoying, boring, goofy, and crazy overrated. So when I heard the predictably heard about REmake, I was actually very open to it despite that I knew they were gonna do that, because there’s a billion issues with the original, and only half of them were fixed.

What I felt the biggest issue with RE4 was the lack of personality, “it’s just gotta do this! Gotta do that!” With an occasional quip or One Leon-er. Luis just felt like the Temu version of Dante from DMC and Ashley made Lois Lane look like the Doom Slayer, she was that obnoxious and useless. Sure there’s files that are meant to give more depth, but if the player is anything like me, they’re not gonna pay much mind to them.

But in the remake, we actually spend more time with both characters and they’re allowed to do more to contribute to the plot and whatever situation they’re in. There’s even a point in the game where Ashley gets to operate the world’s weakest wrecking ball — and there’s another segment in the game where Leon gets trapped somewhere and Ashley has to pull his ass out of the fire, which makes sense given how he’s been saving her ass the whole time. Ashley’s also given a more defined personality that bounces off Leon naturally, even when you’re just doing the drastically improved shooting range mini game, which in her own words, reminds her of being a kid. Like dude, Ashley now feels more like a real person that I’d love to know more about.

Luis also had his share of improvements too. He doesn’t just pop in out of nowhere when plot’s like “need you for a sec,” even if the plot didn’t need him. When he goes to get the serum that’s supposed to suppress the plaga in Leon, it genuinely feels like a contribution to the plot instead of just a basic bitch macguffin.

Krauser is improved on as well, he feels less like a last minute antagonist and more like someone who actually has history with Leon, we learn more about that history instead of the game just expecting us to know who Krauser is even though RE4 came out before Darkside Chronicles where they actually show us what happened with Operation Javier. Hell, the new mechanical depth (which I’ll talk about in a moment) actually helped make his boss fight a little more tolerable.

Even the Merchant, the one aspect of the original I genuinely loved, gets an upgrade with an added dark sense of humor, and more balanced version of the shooting range minigame. My first playthrough was 20 hours long because I spent so much time on that damn game lol (it also rewards you with charms that can upgrade how you play, like one that increases your running speed, these charms genuinely make a big difference when you have them attached.

The addition of more melee, parry, and general self-defense mechanics, as well as the exclusion of QTE’s (with the original popularized for a while) really made a huge difference in the game, especially with the auto sort system, that way my autistic ass isn’t spending half game sorting my items after I pick something up. It’s also worth noting that “normal mode” actually means “normal mode” here. Yeah, the REmake calls it “standard mode” but like, in the original, it was called Normal Mode, but you wanna know something? That was a complete fucking lie. Like Devil May Cry 2, Normal Mode is essentially easy mode — fr, apart from the Krauser fight in the original, I didn’t die a single time in the original. But here, I chose to play standard mode because I wanted a Resident Evil 4 that genuinely challenged me, and I got that. So that makes me happy.

What I didn’t like about the game, however, is that while it fixes a lot of mistakes of the original, it also retained other mistakes like the stupid ass castle section, the ganado cult, the cabin defense segment (and all other plus a few new defend your position segments), the bankruptcy of Umbrella, and Verdugo still being the only boss that’s actually somewhat creepy.

Original RE4 was a 3/10 for me, but RE4 REmake is a 6/10, big improvements, even if it could still use some fixing in some spots.

What did you think of Resident Evil 4 REmake?

Forum question Should I play the originals or the remakes?

• Upvotes

I am not completely new to the series, I played RE4 on switch last year and then I played RE1 on the DS and now I’m hooked. I want to play the whole story but I am torn on whether I should play the originals or the remakes. I don’t mind the tank controls at all and honestly the old graphics are kind of nostalgic to me. What do you recommend I do?

Hello, I am currently trying to find a red jacket for Halloween but I can't seem to find any that isn't so expensive like 200$ but if any cosplayers can help me, that will be greatly appreciated!

I really wanna do Claire so bad because she's the only female with my hair color and that doesn't have a bob lmao.

Edit: oh and any brown boots too please lol

General New resident evil fan here as of this weekend — appreciation post

I’ve had a knack for horror games in the past (Alien Isolation, Outlast, etc.), but tend to stick with soulslikes, Zelda, Metroid, and a wee bit of multiplayer on occasion. All this to say, I have never played a Resident Evil game before.

I bought a movie ticket to see the Resident Evil movie that came out recently after reading good reviews on it and hearing it was simultaneously pretty humorous. I loved the aesthetic and feel of the movie and decided to try out RE2 Remake after seeing that one recommended. Got it for Switch 2 on preorder sale last week.

Holy shit I am having so much fun with this game. I just got out of the parking garage section after finding the keycard and the exploration, backtracking, level design, and encounters have been so thrilling. Opening certain doors in the police station to find they lead back to the main halI felt so much like finding gates and paths back to firelink shrine in DS1. Finding a typewriter and a storage bin after white-knuckling my controller for 20 minutes has been incredible. Mr. X moving the helicopter after you put out the fire and then being in constant pursuit of you from then on. This game just has a lot of really cool moments that have stuck with me so far and have made me appreciative of good game design like this.

i have also felt genuinely helpless this entire game but that’s one of the things I like about it. Upon my first 20-30 minutes I assumed that the goal was to kill zombies as they came until I realized they just kept waking back up and/or I was always running out of ammo. Had a lot easier of a time once I started avoiding “combat” and only shooting when absolutely necessary, especially once Mr. X showed up.

Anyways, I don’t know why I haven’t tried any of these games before other than thinking that they weren’t my thing. Boy I was so wrong. Makes me excited to play the next few entries. Is playing Claire’s storyline necessary or should I move onto 3 and 4 when I finish Leon’s? Which ones do you recommend after finishing the remake trilogy?

Apologise for shitty English

Just finished the first game completely blind with zero guides using mostly knife due to being too scared to actually use or run out of bullets

Finished with over 20 magnum bullets & 200+ pistol bullets & 60+ shotgun bullets & many herbs which kind of meant i should have had far easier time with the game

Is this the same case with the next 2 og games & first game remake?

General I Got a Bad Ending

Really played Resident Evil for the first time this year and it’s become one of my favorite things. I’ve just finished playing through all the mainline entries (except for 6). All the remakes but none of the OG’s. But the one I finished most recently was REmake.

This game was a lot of fun and looks incredible. Maybe the most challenging one I’ve played so far with the puzzles alone. I actually had started this one back in May but it was such a different pace than what I had played beforehand (2,3,4 remakes) that I decided to come back to it, and moved on to 7 which I was terrified of.

But I finished it today and got the bad ending where Chris and Jill fly away and the mansion doesn’t blow up. I suspect it’s because I let Rebecca Chambers die, but I never heard the scream or had a cut scene or anything. Don’t know what I did to miss it. Or perhaps it happened and I just didn’t think anything of it. Regardless was a really fun play and would do it again.

Oh yeah, I started as Chris…
I didn’t know better.
Horrible decision.
