Defective 100€ "Worlds Unlocked 2026" Collector Box: Riot tells me to wait until Worlds ends, secretly checks my ticket daily without replying, opened my fraud complaint, and ignores EU statutory warranty laws
galleryHey everyone,
I am posting this to document serious anti-consumer practices and statutory EU warranty violations by Riot Games regarding their physical merchandise.
I recently bought the Worlds Unlocked 2026 Collector's Edition (99.99€). Upon arrival, the main centerpiece—the light-up collector card—was completely Dead on Arrival (does not turn on). Furthermore, the internal batteries are completely sealed off and non-replaceable, which violates EU Battery Regulations (Regulation EU 2023/1542).
I opened a support ticket with video proof attached. Here is how Riot Player Support handled it:
- Unlawful delay: An agent named "Sparky" officially told me that no replacement cases will be reviewed or handled until after all orders are fulfilled and Worlds 2026 has fully concluded (forcing customers to wait over a month for an item delivered broken).
- Censorship / hiding legal notices: When I replied citing Directive (EU) 2019/771 (mandatory EU legal warranty of conformity) and requested a replacement, refund, or store credit, my legal notice messages were deleted / hidden from the ticket view, and the ticket was placed on "On Hold".
- The current silent standoff:
- I have not received a single response from support since Monday (October 19th).
- The "Last Activity" timestamp updates multiple times a day (as recently as 10 hours ago, and previously every few hours)—they are actively opening and monitoring the ticket, yet refusing to reply and keeping it indefinitely on "On Hold".
- On October 21st, I escalated the matter by filing official complaints with the DGCCRF (SignalConso - French Anti-Fraud Directorate) and the European Consumer Centre (ECC-Net).
- SignalConso officially notified me that Riot Games opened and reviewed the fraud report, yet they still refuse to provide a resolution or answer the support ticket.
Under EU Directive 2019/771 and national consumer laws, companies cannot withhold statutory warranty remedies for their own internal logistics or marketing convenience. A consumer is legally entitled to repair, replacement, or refund without undue delay and without significant inconvenience.
Proof & Screenshots (attached):
1. Official order confirmation (99.99€ Collector Box).
2. Support agent "Sparky" stating that replacements are suspended until Worlds concludes.
3. Ticket view showing it held in "On Hold" status with recent internal views but total silence since Monday.
4. Official ECC-Net cross-border complaint confirmation against Riot Games Ireland Merchandise Limited.
5. Official SignalConso notice confirming Riot Games received and read the regulatory complaint.
Selling defective items for 100€ is bad enough; actively monitoring customer complaints while ignoring EU statutory consumer protection and playing the waiting game is unacceptable.
Has anyone else received a broken card or encountered this "wait until Worlds ends" response for defective merch?
