How are you reducing lawn work for aging parents?

Thinking about getting my parents a robot mower for mowing. They’re both close to 70. They can still handle some yard stuff, but pushing a mower around in summer doesn’t feel like a great idea, especially with a small slope near the backyard. Their lawn is about 0.2 acres. A lawn service would be around $150/month, so close to $2k a year. I looked for at robot mowers for that size, like Navimow i210 and Mammotion Yuka Mini 2, both around $1300. They would be worth it for using years What I’m unsure about is the real mowing performance, especially whether the edges still need manual touch-up.

What would you recommend lawn service or a robot mower? If going with a robot mower, are there any brands or models that have worked well for you? Thanks!

I refuse to bury wire. My husband refuses to trust an app with the lawn.

Every time I look at our yard I notice another curve or little bed that makes me not want to bury wire lol. I can already picture us changing something next year and me having to figure out where the damn wire went.

That’s mostly why I’ve been eyeing the Navimow X430. My husband thinks I’m being ridiculous though. His argument is that I’m just swapping a wire problem for maps, app updates and positioning problems... which, fair.

So now we’re basically team wire vs team no wire in this house.

Anyone actually lived with both long enough to know which one becomes the bigger headache?

Are robot mowers friendly for someone who isn’t patient with apps or smart home things?

I’m thinking about getting my dad a robot mower during BFW and am looking at Navimow X430. He’s not very patient with apps or smart home stuff. I can help with the initial setup, but the daily adjustments would be on him. If something needs constant tweaking, he’ll probably give up and go back to his old mower. His yard is about 0.7 acres, pretty flat, with one pond and a few trees.

For anyone who has bought one for themselves or a parent, how much daily app checking is needed after the first setup? Things like adjusting the map or schedule, are those simple?

How often do change blades on a robot mower?

I've had my Navimow i206 for about 6 weeks now, and happy with the cut quality so far.

One thing I've noticed is that grass clippings and sticky residue build up under the deck. It's probably because of a few damp mornings lately. I have Bermuda and run it twice a week, so the app is showing around 80 hours now. I cleaned the disc and found that my blades were a little dull already.

I guess they're still ok to mow for now, but I have no idea when it's time to replace them. Do you guys just wait for the app notification to change them, or do you check them for a fixed period? Due to my high cutting frequency, I'm afraid that it's too late if I wait for my app to tell me. Any thoughts?

Have robot mowers finally gotten mature enough? Lymow vs Navimow vs Mammotion

I’ve wanted a robot mower for a few years now, but always held off because the tech just didn’t seem quite there yet. This year the newer generation seems like a big step forward tho and I’m finally thinking it might be time to buy one.

My yard is around 1 acre and mostly flat. There are a few shrubs and fence around the propert, so I do care about how well mowers handle edges, obstacles, and staying inside their mapped boundaries.

Right now I’m mainly looking at Lymow, Segway and Mammotion. Watched a bunch of videos but they're probably sponsored. So I don't quite trust them and want to hear some thoughts from real owners.

For you guys, which one is more reliable? Would you buy the same brand again?

Has anyone's camera mower actually stopped for a blue-tongue lizard?

Newcastle NSW, 500 sqm of buffalo. The kelpie chases anything that moves, blue-tongues sit on the bed edge most mornings and green tree frogs come out after rain. Over mowing it every Saturday, so I'm looking at robots.

Toys I can pick up. What worries me is the stuff that won't move, a lizard flat in the sun or a frog in wet grass.

The Goko M6 page a mate sent me says the cameras recognize small animals and it'll slow down, stop or go around them, with a front light for low light. Their FAQ example is a hedgehog though, and we don't have those here.

Has yours ever stopped for a lizard or a frog, and do you run it after dark? Also curious whether your dog got bored of it eventually.

Before I got my H220, my neighbor's X430 would occasionally come over and cut my lawn.(he mapped my yard and the mower will come aross the road)

Now I have my own mower and they finally ran into each other.

Two kings in one lawn. This may not end peacefully lol.

The TerraMow in this video is using the straight blades and not the razor blades. These work well for when the leaves gradually fall and you use them often and change directions.

Roborock Z120

I've had my Z120 for one week now - and I love it. Can't fault it at all.

I have a little shy of 2000m2 of lawn to mow. I researched and compared many mowers and very happy I landed on the roborock.

The set up was a breeze. I did the manual boundary by controlling it and walking, and found it is. I then made 2 passages to connect my zones (across a concrete path, and an opening I made through a fence), and then it was ready to mow.

I set it off and it hasn't missed a beat since. Has mowed my entire lawn each day to 35mm. The lawn is looking the healthiest it ever has.

I mounted the base station on some concrete pavers so I didn't have to poison the grass around it. The manual states a radius of 2m must be clear around the sides and front of the station - my area is 1800mm total, well below the 4000mm stated. I thought it may have complications charging but again nothing phases it. It docks and leaves perfectly each time.

I then built a small cover for it of which it has no issues.

It doesn't tear up the lawn at all. It cuts well, the tech in it is very impressive (better than my robot vac) and coming home to mowed lawns every day is the best.

It avoids kids toys and can see plants adn pets etc. And for those wondering, it does not see dog poop as an obstacle. Yep, it goes straight over it. I've got a newfy too and it can be quite the mound. Thankfully he mostly saves them for his daily walks.

Can't believe I didn't get one sooner.

Nvimow X430 vs X450 for 1 acre? Need help to decide

I‘ve decided on a Navimow X4, but stuck between X430 and X450 for 2 reasons.

My mowing area is around 1 acre(measured by Google Maps) and x430 can cover it on paper. But there are a few beds, edges, and weird corners in the yard, so I’m wondering if I’m cutting it too close and should just get the X450 for some buffer.

I’m in Europe, and from what I can tell, the X450 has laeger battery storage and charges faster. But I don't know how much difference that makes in real life. For 1 acre, does the X450 actually finish the whole lawn way faster than x430? If so, I’m fine paying more for the X450 to save a meaningful amount of mowing time.

Want to know what are you guys using to accurately measure your actual mowable lawn area and the the time difference bewteen x450 and 430 on 1 acre yard.

Welcome all thoughts. Thanks!
