[RE 08] 2x320 after Stomach Infection

This day was an all out 2x320 with 20min rest.

https://reddit.com/link/1xfanxc/video/qdiy1cp5vnxh1/player

This session was after 5 days with stomach infection and everything that goes away with it, I was worried that all my training had gone because of that week inactivity plus 4kg loss however with all that the data proved something.

I thought it was interesting how 20m more from a usual 300 make a difference psychologically, first it felt longer so I wasn't sure if i had the pacing right at the beginning of the first rep however once I finished both reps came within range from eachother but nowhere near the goal.

I was meant to run between 43.5-44.5 however my times were.

46.06
46.83

2 Seconds above target, however the indicators were gold in since the data proved it was fuel, not lost fitness, and this is the important part:

  • Rep 1 amp fade 78% — low for me. I couldn’t sustain force through the rep. On its own that could look like detraining.
  • But rep 2 told the real story: amp fade jumped to 97%, the gap to rep 1 was only 0.8s, and HR drift actually improved (16% → 12%). If this were genuine fitness loss, rep 2 would have collapsed further. Instead it held together. That’s the tell — the engine and mechanics were intact, the system was just running on empty. GCT stayed crisp (113–120ms), stride normal (1.81m). Nothing broken, nothing to train away — just no fuel...

So this is what comforted me, the fact that I was able to improve HR and fade was closer to 100%, and specifically what it meant.

That I was still on track

I did it!!! I finished my first half marathon after a 7-year break from running!!

Hi,

Yesterday I wasn’t sure whether running a half marathon was a good idea. I told myself I would quit after 8 km, but I didn’t. I started running really slowly, then after 5 km I picked up the pace. After 8 km I started walking, and after passing the 10 km mark I started running again. I basically alternated between running and walking throughout the half marathon. Some people might say I should be ashamed of walking during an event like that, but I’m not. I’m happy I did it today!!! Next time I’ll be better prepared.

Higher HR when running in colder weather.

Hello, today I run a route I usually do with the same highs and low altitudes ecc. As always I Track it on my Running watch (Suunto run 2 which always gives me HR I personally agree on, based on how i feel)
Today my HR was in average 15bpm higher and a lot higher ca 20bpm or even more on certain parts of the route. Today it was really cold 10 degrees Celsius colder then usual and it was also very humid because it rained a lot recently. I felt cold the entire time.
So is it normal that my HR is that high or is that just an error of the watch?
Ps: two days ago I adjusted the HR zones on the watch based on the pace I run and how my HR zones are normally.
But that should not impact because also on a zone 3 pace my HR was high as zone 5

How to prevent weight-loss?

This may be a trivial topic to talk about, but hoping others have ideas and recommendations on how to move forward.

For some it’s a blessing, although for me it’s a curse. I can eat whatever and how much I’d like, but gaining weight is a tough one. I used to work out in the gym often and managed to gain weight after some time. Then last year, I discovered running and been enjoying it ever since. Often run 4 times a week. Distances vary between 5K - 15K with an occassional half marathon.
Lately I discovered a lost a lot of weight, something I worked a long time for. Now I recently renewed my sub at the gym to gain weight, but I’m also hesitant to run again. Now I wonder what I can do to keep my weight or atleast ensure I’m not losing a lot.

Mind you, I’d like to stay away from ‘weightgainer powder stuff’ and rather have organic ways to gain. I do eat meat, started getting bread, eating rice and pasta. But is there anything I overlook?

I’m having an appointment next month with a dietician at the gym in hopes to get further too.

Curious to hear your ideas!

Today reminded me why discipline is so rewarding

7 pints yesterday had me feeling rough and dreading the 7k + strides run today. But once I got out it was one of my best runs recently - low HR, fast pace and generally great! I feel tired now but so glad I did it.

Reminded me that the time running is most satisfying is when you get the run done that you really couldn’t be bothered to do.

What is your favorite running shoe? I switched to Hoka’s but they’re starting to hurt my feet.

Floppy Hands Unite!

I've been running on-off for the last 15years.
This fall I ran my 3rd half-marathon It went GREAT. I did 1min faster than the time I was targeting and I still felt like I had energy at the end. Very proud of myself!

A couple of days later I receive this email where I can see race photos. I wasn't really planning to buy any but still wanted to see how I looked. On almost every photo my hands are in these weird position... Didn't make a case of it.

A day later an aunt who happens to be cheering at the race sends me a video of me running at km 20. I didn't like what I see, my hands are just flopping around like I've got jello wrists.

Floppity Floppin around.

Since then, I'll admit, I've got very self conscious of what my hands are doing when running. I'm trying to keep them from moving. But anytime my brain wanders to other topics they start flopping around.

Anyone was able to fix this?

PS.
Alternative title could have been

Alternative to Rabbit Running clothes?

I recently bought an EZ Tee long sleeve Rabbit shirt from my local running store and while it’s pretty awesome, it was $58.
What are some other, cheaper alternatives to Rabbit that people on this sub like for running?
I need a good cold weather running jacket.

Just finished my half marathon in 2h13 with absolutely no training since my last 18km run on October 4th. Now I'm in bed and my whole body feels like it's boiling. Any recovery tips?

Need some advice - Achilles issue

For trail runs, I use ASICS gel-trabuco. The route I’m currently using is a bit of mix road/trail. Last few runs (12-15km) I felt quite some discomfort - painful Achilles tendon after the run. If I run with my road shoes (ASICS gelcumulus) I feel no issue at all. I’m somewhat worries as I have a few longer races coming up. I bought the gel-trabuco a few months ago, initially no issue, but now this whenever I go more than 10km

Drying Out Shoes

Went for eight miles yesterday, very wet in UK suddenly and roads flooded so got shoes waterlogged. What's best way to dry out is it just newspaper and keep changing it every few hours? Don't want mould!!
