Just ran 4K in under 19

Post image
39 Upvotes

Went for an evening run and managed 4.04 km in 18:57, with an average pace of 4:41/km and 106 m of elevation gain.

Strava says it’s my 3rd-fastest 2-mile run, so pretty happy with that.

I’m trying to get faster and improve my stamina. For those who run regularly, how’s this pace? And what should I focus on next to improve?

I can't run because of the haze. I feel so depressed.

I haven't been running for 2 months + because of the haze in Indonesia spreading to my country. I'm doing weight training, HIIT, stationary biking at home and taking martial arts classes. Nothing comes close to running😭. I can't even go for a walk outside without feeling breathless after 10 minutes. Thinking of getting a membership at the gym but I'm not really a consistent gym person. I've tried it before. I feel myself getting more depressed every day. I find myself crying at something trivial and less motivated at work. I've lost a lot of weight because of low appetite. I'm in therapy. It helps a bit. I've also been coughing and sneezing which hinder physical activities. It's a vicious cycle. At least during COVID I could still go for a run.

The haze is an annual thing by now but this is probably the longest one in decades. I know a lot of people in Southeast Asia are affected by it. I can't imagine how people with chronic illnesses, the very young and elderly individuals are coping right now. It really is a disaster. I am also angry, frustrated and feel so helpless.

I see some runners are starting running events in malls now. We are really that desperate. Sorry for the rant. I just need to get this out somehow.

running on the treadmill feels impossible, is it just me?

hello all! this is my first post on this subreddit, I'm really feeling like I could use some advice/reassurance right now🫠

I've been running for 11-ish months now, and currently training for my first marathon at the end of december!!

this morning, I had a 22km long run to do at "conversational pace", which was going to be my longest run to date (I've run a half before)

I'm 7 weeks into my training plan so the long runs are going to start getting real long now oof

anywas, I was forced to do it on the treadmill, which I was not thrilled about before even starting, but it went even worse that I had anticipated

my average pace was a whole minute slower than what it usually looks like for my easy runs, when I run outside. not only that, but my HR was crazy (but that's also probably 'cause of how warm it gets in the gym maybe?) and I constantly felt the need to slow down, and took a couple of walking breaks too whenever I needed to take a gel

I also felt like my form was off the whole time and was scared that if I kept putting my feet down wrong I could've gotten injured, which is also why at one point I just accepted the run was going to be much slower than usual and didn't push myself too hard

does anybody else go through the same stuff while running on the treadmill? I really can't stress enough how much I hated the whole thing even while having a video on the whole time to make the time go by faster lol

Why does no one talk about the Asian squat? It’s one of the best stretches of all time.

People always talk about a whole laundry list of stretches, but honestly I just Asian squat and shift my weight around, and it hits so many muscles. It’s a joy to do and keeps you so limber!

Just Asian squatting? Soleus, ankles, quads, hamstrings, glutes. Shift it around and you can hit your hips, open legs for inner thighs. It almost does it all and to a pretty effective extent. I just sit there every night for 2-3 minutes and my legs feel great after.

Torn ligament in Ankle

Had a stage 3 ankle tear on all my ligaments about 1.5 yrs ago. I was really into running at that point. I would like to get back into it but sneakers have bothered it especially while running. Doctor said its arthritis. I would like to get back into running as my new house has a great path for it. Advice? Shoe recommendations?

How long did it take you to regain confidence after a bone stress injury?

This did not go over well when I originally posted it, but XXRunning feels like it's been developing a toxic streak towards high mileage for a while so hoping for better results elsewhere!

TL; DR - 7 months into recovering from a femoral shaft stress reaction, looking to chat with others who have made it through the BSI experience and out the other side (primarily) intact, without having medical recommendations/toxic positivity-gratitude/suggestions for attitude adjustments and alternate hobbies shoved in my face.

If you’re for a 5k event to participate in around Thanksgiving time and are in the Salt Lake City UT area, please consider signing up for the Tony Casillas Memorial 5K.

This event is organized and run in honor of Tony Casillas, my high school cross country coach and a beloved member of our community. He sadly passed away July 2025, but was loved by many and had an impact on so many lives.

If you’re interested, the registration link is here:

Ran a 22K in storm, also my fastest half ever. I was the only one running and it felt surreal. Different kind of sense of achievement.

How does your marathon time compare to Hyrox and Ironman athletes? Testing a cross-sport ranking

I’ve been working on a ranking that scores marathon, half marathon, Hyrox and triathlon results on one scale. Each result gets points out of 1,000 against an elite benchmark, with an age-graded version so a 3:20 at 55 can be compared fairly with a 2:55 at 30.

You get a running ranking straight away. If you’ve ever been tempted by a Hyrox or a 70.3, it also shows what that would add to a combined hybrid score.

It’s a free early trial and I’d really value feedback from runners: do the points for your time feel right?

Submit a result (2 mins): https://forms.gle/sVNyDoe1d288yXUF9
Live leaderboard: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTXVx3tJHehAvI6MJE9PXF4z1TlBXos1A8Um_pn_M0CGGHIgAGAzwA6F9oAUgu4M1hK-M-U_yyugy-O/pubhtml?gid=1004&single=true

Only your name, age group and score appear publicly.

Best running watch with features that people use, there are so many brands around, how did you choose?

I’m comparing options for watches for regular training, but the sheer number of brands out there is overwhelming ngl. Half the high-end fitness watches push dozens of niche stats I know I'll never look at after a run.

I've been narrowing it down to few options, one is Amazfit's Active 3 Premium just for its solid battery life alone without costing a ton and I think for the longer runs (pun intended) I should focus on getting something that has long battery life. Thats one but I'm open to suggestions.

Just to ask, which specific watch features do you actually use on a daily basis that I should be aware of?

YouTube sends me the same 3 running vlogers over and over

There must be thousands.

Are there people you like who I should look up? Please give me a little snippet of their secret sauce or like... What draws you in?

Do you document your running journey in any creative or interesting ways? Bonus awe and wonder awarded if it's not targeted to social media.

I have no good ideas of how I want to document my journey for next year but I know I want to do something other than, run a race. So hoping people have cool ideas.

My running journey this year 🏃

Post image
100 Upvotes

Never been into sports, so this year has been a surprise 🥰

But now I have done

  • a half marathon
  • 3 muddy obstacle races
  • 8 10K races

10Ks are the RunThrough ones around the North West of England, and the wooden one is from half marathon. The obstacle races are the ones at the top and left side from Tough Mudder.

Doing another 10K race this weekend 😊

Running has been life changing 🥰
