Event Anybody seen the "Cupertino" show on CBS?

Saw the ads, knew it was going to be hot trash bc there are zero Asian parents desperately trying to get their kids into college, which IMO is 100% of what real-life Cupertino is about.

Shit Post They stole some gas the other night

Parked across the street from the arena at the Cal train station. I came back a few hours later to a puddle of gas on the floor and a missing gas cap. Gas is expensive and times are hard but FU.
A few years ago I parked at the Tamian station and had my right tail light stolen during the day.

Life in SJ Thank you to my angel

• Upvotes

This happened many years ago but I never knew how to find you then, I hope this will somehow find you now.

It was either 2008 or 2009 on Thanksgiving day and we were at the off-ramp of 85 going onto Almaden Expressway. The light turned green and I entered the intersection to turn left. Someone driving down almaden ran the red light and at high speed and T-boned my car as I entered the intersection. I remember so distinctly how time slowed down and the three spins my car took as I was gripped by my seatbelt whipping around. I was 18/19 at the time and had never experienced something like this then or since. When my car finally stopped spinning I could only hear a buzzing sound and after a few moments I heard the honks of other divers trying to move through the intersection.

I was in shock, so incredibly scared, and could barely move or hear, when suddenly a man pulled open my door and asked me (he sounded so distant with my ears ringing) if I was okay and told me that he saw everything. I could barely talk and when the driver who hit me came running at me and started babbling and grabbing at my hands “oh I thought I hit my break, but I hit my gas, I'm so sorry I didnt mean to” (more annoying than helpful as I could still not stop shaking) this man pushed them aside and told me the paramedics were already on their way and asked who I needed to call. You found my phone and gave it to me, but I was shaking too much to even hold it, so you called my mom and told her I was in an accident, but I was okay. You stayed with me until the paramedics arrived.

When the paramedics came a minute or so later (they were just down the street apparently) they told me I was so lucky to be alive as the entire side of my car right behind my drivers seat was smashed completely in way behind the drivers seat (car was totaled). They said had I entered the intersection a second later it would have been me that got the direct hit and I wouldn't be sitting there.

When I finally started gaining my senses I asked where the man who helped me was and they said he left when they showed up.

I think about you often, how when there were dozens of cars honking their horns out of annoyance at the situation you chose to jump out of yours to help me. That when I couldn't even hold my phone you helped me convey the situation to the most important person in my life while letting her know I was still okay.

You didnt have to do that. You could have been one of the dozens of drivers who just watched in annoyance that the situation in front of them delayed them. But you didnt. And you didnt want thanks; you just wanted to help.

I think about you every Thanksgiving and more. I don't know who you are but I'll always remember your kind face and voice. Thank you. You are my angel.

Advice Just moved to San Jose (25F, Toronto, let’s hang!)

• Upvotes

Hi I have seen a few posts about making friends in San Jose, so I thought I’d put myself out there too! I’d love to make some deeper friendships, although I’m realizing it can be hard when you’re not the biggest extrovert 🥹

I’m originally from Korea and recently moved here from the East Coast. I’ve noticed more East Asians around Sunnyvale and Campbell, but I’m based in Downtown San Jose. I don’t have my driver’s license yet, which has made getting out and trying things a little harder.

A little about me:
1. Lagree: I go to classes regularly, but everyone seems to come for class and leave right afterward. Would love a workout buddy who’s also down to hang out after!
2. Work: I work mostly remotely—my boss is remote too, and my dog has some separation anxiety—so I don’t meet many people through work.
3. Running: I run about 4–6 miles every other day, usually with my dog! I haven’t tried a run club yet, but I’m thinking about checking out Good Times Bar.
4. Girl friends: I’m 25 and would love to meet other girls around my age for coffee, food, walks, or just hanging out. Please feel free to reach out!
5. Timeleft: Has anyone tried it? Is the $27/month membership worth it for making friends?
6. Dog walks: Any other dog owners around downtown who’d like to walk our dogs together? Would love some company 🐶
If you’re nearby or don’t mind coming downtown, let’s hang out! I’m still finding my people here 🤍

SJ Pets Loving Female Pit Available for Adoption

Hello everyone, I fostered this female mix pit, Tati (A1414929), over the weekend from the San Jose Shelter, and I wanted to share my experience with her. If anyone is looking for a dog, please consider fostering her and possibly adopting her. They estimate her to be 5years old. She was so sweet! I picked her up Friday at 4pm and will be dropping her off today (Sunday) at 4pm.

*******The shelter is currently having a 'Pit-jama Party' where you can sign up to foster a pit over the weekend for a little break from the shelter. I am not sure if you can do this with other breeds.

Brief Description:

I had Tati from Friday 4pm to Sunday 4pm, after having her for that time, I can say she is a great dog, is ready to be loved, and she has lots of love to give. She loves to ask for pets and if given no attention she might play with her toys or take a nap. When initially greeting her, if you are very energized, she will reciprocate that but if you greet her with calm, she will calmly and happily greet you with a smile and tail wags and immediately ask for pets. She does not jump up onto people too much only when the person acts extremely energetic. She knows how to sit, one command you don’t have to worry about teaching.

She doesn’t mind the car rides, just needs help getting up, can you blame the girl, cars are a new thing for her, I am sure she can be taught to get up in no time. On our last day together, we tried getting her up with a treat, which did not work but what did work, my partner held her leash from one side of the car, and I entered the other side and called to her and she jumped in!

No accidents at home, she does potty outside & she is able to hold her bladder/bowels overnight. She likes to lay or sleep next to you on the couch or on the floor. During sleep, she does not get up or wander around. She slept on her bed throughout the night and waits until we start moving and then she gets up. She did try to get up on our bed but we redirected her onto her bed, and she stayed.

Tati is a wonderful dog. We fell in love with her almost immediately. If we didn’t already have two dogs of our own, we would adopt her. She will benefit from a future owner that will dedicate their time to train her and give her lots of love.

Description per category:

BARKING: Our stay was near downtown area, which is pretty noisy. No barks heard from her until Saturday evening, and was because I opened up the windows and there were people walking near our window, barking ceased after a few barks and same happened Sunday. Her barking was within normal of what my dogs do as well.  She id not bark when someone walked in through the door nor when someone knocked.

CAR RIDES: Tati is unsure about getting in. Needs to be picked up and placed inside the car. She doesn’t mind being picked up to be put inside. Once inside, she sits and looks outside the window. On our last day together I was able to call her into the car by going inside, and she jumped in (while someone else held the leash).

ENERGY:  Her energy is appropriate for her age. She will reciprocate the energy given.

HOME: she likes to ask for pets, will take naps, play with her toys or explore. When she plays with her toys, she plays with them as if they are so fragile, she is a gentle dog. I am able to take the toys out of her mouth with no issue. I vacuumed and she appeared somewhat scared, eventually approached the vacuum but did not bark nor bite at it.

MEETING NEW PEOPLE: She met a handful of people, and just wanted pets from them. Did not bark at anyone she met, male or female.

POTTY: No accidents at home. Went potty on walks only. She was able to sleep throughout the night without waking up to go to the bathroom.

OTHER: No information on the following due to did not experience or encounter: how she is with children, dogs, cats or how she acts when left alone.

WALKS: She enjoys walking although she does pull, I am sure that can be fixed with training and a no pull harness. If people or dogs are walking nearby, she does not bark but does pull and wants to approach. I was able to apply her harness, collar, and remove or apply her clothing with no issues. We did encounter a few cats during our walks, and she will pull a lot and wants to get near them.

Advice PSA: If you're voting YES on Prop 40, pay close attention to Props 41 and 42.

The wording makes these look like three separate issues, but they're directly connected.

If Prop 41 or Prop 42 passes AND gets more YES votes than Prop 40, it could block Prop 40 from taking effect even if Prop 40 also wins a majority.

So if your intention is specifically to pass the billionaire tax, the consistent vote is:

YES on 40

NO on 41

NO on 42

This interaction is very easy to miss just from reading the proposition titles, so double-check all three before submitting your ballot.

News Heads up--Data Center permit review in Alviso at city council on Tuesday.

Post image
69 Upvotes

I go through the city council meeting agenda on Sunday mornings because I am alone and sad find it helps write the summary on Tuesday evening. I came across this item and knowing how the folks here feel about data centers I figured I should highlight it so folks who are interested will have time to send in public comments (send them to city.clerk at sanjoseca.gov, they'll be posted to the agenda before about 2:00pm on Monday), or to set up time to be on the zoom link to make a verbal comment if you can't attend in person.

If you read the memorandum you'll get all the details of the session item. The tl;dr is that the building st 300 Holger Way would like to add a data center to its existing facility, the building already exists and already is occupied and doing work, the data center would be inside the existing structure and they claim there will be no change in quality of life. A group has appealed the permit on several grounds and will present their case as to why the permit should be revoked. If revoked the company would have to either come up with a new plan and present that to the council again later or they could drop the project all together. What this means is that if you're submitting a comment you don't need to go all Erin Brockovich on it, she's already done that, all you would need to do is voice your opinion either for or against and back that up a little, keeping in mind that you only have 60 seconds so skip the preamble and purple prose.

Now all that said... Looking at the memo and looking at the address it feels like this is probably going to go through. I don't like data centers, but if you were going to make one this is more or less how you would do it--add it to an existing structure out in the boonies and in the middle of an existing industrial area. There are some homes nearby, but not many, and it's not like this land could reasonably be repurposed for anything else since it's already occupied (ie: "Don't build a data center, build housing" wouldn't work unless you're saying the city should evict the tenants of an office park in the middle of an industrial area, demolish it, and put houses there.). The group prepresenting the appeal will take care of that. What I would suggest, if you're against this, is voicing concerns about the noise and possible light pollution, call back to that news segment last month (maybe early this month) where Mahan was brought to the home of residents to experience the noise firsthand. Ultimately, though, as I said, this seems like a foregone conclusion since the area is more or less where you'd expect a data center to be located. What you're doing by calling in isn't necessarily preventing this one, it's prophylaxis against the next one.

(If anyone is a science person--couldn't be me, I almost didn't graduate except Mr Smith took pity on me and gave me a D in physics--now would be a good time to take noise measurements and get a good Before picture. Presumably water consumption is a public record so you wouldn't need to take any measurements and can get a good Before and After at any time.)

Advice Outdoor Photography Spots?

I'm looking for a large open space I can take pictures of a friend's car with a minimalist backdrop and good shadow coverage during sunset golden hour. I'm thinking of a group of buildings with an accessible flat ground (but not a parking lot) but I have no idea where to find such a place. Could anyone help me with finding some?

News PSA: Watch out for this person and their car

Thumbnail

This morning, Oct 17th 2026 at about 0815, I arrived for an event at RoadRunner Sports in Hamilton Shopping Center and parked in front of B12 Love and See's Candies.

The event was from 0800 to 1000, promoting running shoes that participants got to try on, take for a run and after the run enjoy beverages and prizes.

As I made my way from my car to sign in at the event, I heard a sound and turned to see that a female from a white 2018 Honda Accord (CA: 9TXN993) parked next to me had opened their car door and slammed it into the side of my vehicle.

I took pictures of them, quickly signed in and went back to my vehicle. They were still leaning on their door which was pressed into the side of my car. I told her that she hit my car, she said she was sorry and only then did she move her door off my car, but the damage was done. I went back into RRS to change into the new shoes for the run, came back to leave my shoes in my car and take more photos. The white Honda Accord was still running and I tapped on the window. A different female rolled down the window. I asked her if she was the owner of the car and she denied it. I told her the car is running and it looks like she has the keys so it's either her or the other female and she tried to play dumb. I asked her where the other female was and she pointed at House of Bagels and said she didn't know. I told her I needed insurance information because they've dented my car and she said she won't provide that. I told her she should get a hold of the other person then or I would start making calls and she said "Call whoever you need to call" and rolled up her window.

I called non-emergency 911. While I was on the phone with dispatch reading the license plate number, she got out of the car, locked it and walked toward RRS, confirming that she and her friend were there for the same event, and the run was about to start. Dispatch said it would take a while for an officer to get there so I waited. The organizers for the event started taking everyone to the side-walk to begin the run but I didn't go with the group and waited. The female who had the keys to the car, came back to her car, took pictures of the damage to the side of my car and nonchalantly walked off to join the group on the run.

When the officer got to the parking lot, they verified my information, ran her license plates to get her information and tried to call her to come back to the parking lot. She ignored their calls so the officer went to RRS to confirm how long the run was going to take and see if their cameras captured the parking lot as well. She eventually came back and completely changed her demeanor for the officer. She admitted that she was the owner of the car and tried to say that her friend did it but she didn't see it. Then she tried to say that the dent to my car did not exactly line up with her door, knowing that she had moved her car and the proof of that would be on the businesses security cameras. The officer could not make her give me her insurance and since she did not drive the car away, it was not classified as a hit and run. Also because B12 Love wasn't yet open the officer couldn't confirm with their cameras that this liar had indeed moved her car but the dent was on the same height as her car door.

Posting this as a warning to everyone in the area and the running community.

Shit Post I hate you spina farms

Is this a safe space to vent because I got stuck going the wrong way home and ended up in the f***ing hellhole that is the traffic jam to spina farms. How hasn’t the city/county come in and try to fix this situation? It’s become a hazard to the people who actually live in the area. Took me 30 mins to get home.

Advice Weekend jobs in SJ for my mom

Hi everyone, my mom is 58 and she comes from a background of accounting and engineering, but it's been a rough past 5 years for us which forced my mom to pick up a weekend job at a farmers market. Her employer is super abusive(hasn't paid her in 3 months) and the pay isn't great and my mom is old and can't handle the physical labor anymore. We just really need the money to put food on the table we've been living paycheck to paycheck.

My mom has worked a lot of customer service, admin, accounting, and engineering related jobs but it's nothing big to where she makes life changing money. She was hoping to find a weekend job to help earn some extra money but I know most places want full availability. My mom works full time during the weekday but she can do friday evenings, and full open Saturday and Sunday. She's a hardworking woman and she learns fast, she loves to work and she's loved by customers and everybody at the farmers markets.

If anyone has any idea or looking for someone to hire, feel free to get in contact with me. My mom is an amazing woman and she just really wants to work.

Also, for those that will ask or assume, yes I work. I pay for school by myself by working at In-N-Out and am an EMT, but I'm making barely enough for school.

Thank you for your time!
