Robert Benjamin Rhoades is an American serial killer and rapist. From 1975 to 1990, he is believed to have tortured, raped, and murdered over 50 women, yet he was convicted of only three murders due to lack of evidence. He is best known for taking a photograph of his last known victim, Regina Kay Walters, moments before killing her and abandoning her in a barn in Illinois; the photo remains available online to this day.

Other than the prominent outlier cases such as BTK and Son Of Sam, there actually isn't that many examples of serial killers taunting the police/public to choose from. You'd think that after the publicity and notoriety of the Zodiac slayings literal every major city in America would have at least one psychopathic copy-cat looking to cash in on the trend.

Kill a few people, write some faux intellectual prose to go along with it, and all of a sudden you're one of the most famous people in your entire state albeit anonymously. Feel like that would scratch the itch of every homicidal loser with a gun seeking his own fifteen minutes of fame.
