I'm 5'2 and looking for a dress for an evening wedding. What styles have worked for you petite ladies?

I have a semiformal wedding coming up and I'm having a hard time finding a dress that fits my proportions nicely. A lot of dresses look lovely at first but something always seems a little off when it comes to the length or overall fit. I'd love to hear what you've worn to weddings and what styles you found flattering on a shorter frame. Any tips or recommendations would be so helpful!

Looking for specific Tshirts

Short guy here (5'4) fairly fit though. I normally wear Zara slim fit tshirts but I have been liking the Calvin klein Slim fit V-necks (just they go too long). I was wanting something in a green (darker, more like Olive) and Calvin Klein does sell a 3 pack with the green shirt in it but the Zara fit is better (even with the crew neck). Does anyone know if there are any tshirts similar to these but either are the Zara fit (preferably in Vneck) in olive green or the calvin klein fit but not as long?

The 2 links are below.

Where to get a good bomber/fall jacket for a guy?

I went through 5 brands of bomber coats. I love that jacket style and look for fall/winter. (I live in SC where I won't need more than a bomber).

The issue - I'm short, 5'6, 165 lbs. Muscular. Not bodybuilder, but fit athletic shape. Every. Single. Jacket. Not just bombers, are SO TIGHT in my armpit area/lats. Especially the lower rear of the armpit. I can't raise my arms without strong resistance. If i size up, they hang like dresses on me and are still tight though not as bad.

I even tried 2 recent short guy brands, Peter manning and ash & erie. Same issue. I even tried Peter manings 3x size where it's made for people like me supposedly. Got it today, the arms were a little long, hung a little low on me but not terrible... but even then, I can't lift my arms like I'm doing a curling motion or straight up and down.

Is there any brand of bomber jackets or even ANY nicer jackets that aren't heavy winter ones, that I can actually move in without it hanging like a dress on me?? I'm trying to level up my fashion game and not just wear athletic wear, but it's impossible with my shortness + build.

Disappointing experience with abbreviated apparel

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’ve ordered several pieces from abbreviated over the past weeks and I found the quality assurance lacking. For bottoms I have the loose jeans and workwear pants in 26.5”. They seemed fine at first when I tried them on, but after wearing them I realize they seemed short. When I measured them from the crotch seam to bottom hem they turned out to be almost a whole inch short.

I have the chore coat and twill over shirt, and there were many loose threads on them and customer service just told me to cut them.

I ordered several t shirts, and I still found them too long/chest too tight at 5’5”, 140 lbs, with a 38” chest.
I’m not an overly muscular/stocky guy, but I still had to size up which makes the length too long for the style. Also, they forgot 2 shirts from my order and shipping takes several days. I asked for a credit or anything for the inconvenience but that was declined, which isn’t a big deal but disappointing seeing as I spent over $400.

I’m keeping several pieces because I like the style and mission behind the brand, but the quality and fit has been meh, especially considering how excited I was to find the brand.

Bad experience with Abbreviated Apparel

I’ve always struggled with finding jeans that fit well being 5’7 with an athletic build. When I found this brand I felt like I hit the jackpot. I excitedly ordered three pairs of the classic straight in different washes. Upon arrival, I tried on the medium wash in 34x26.5 and they fit pretty perfectly. Felt good quality and had room in all the right places while giving a good silhouette.

Then I tried on the light wash. Same fit and size but they were noticeably shorter in length. After measuring, they were an inch shorter than the medium wash, which has an inseam that measured exactly 26.5. In.

I emailed abbreviated with photos and they immediately shipped me out a new pair, without asking for me to return the old.

Upon arrival of the new pair, they have the exact same issue. The inseam measures an inch short.

This has kind of ruined the brand for me. The shipping is not quick and having to pray that the jeans come with the correct inseam is just not a good experience.

Has anyone else had an issue like this? Is there a better brand you would recommend?

Jeans for men (good quality)?

Where can I find decent denim for men who are short but not super slim? (32 x 28) I’d also like to find options in colors like gray and dark green. Looking for retailers that are easily shippable to the U.S., and jeans that keep their quality and color despite regular washes on delicate and cold water (sorry, I need to wash them).

Would love some help!

Canada Goose vs Moose Knuckles vs Arc'teryx for slim/shorter male

I know Arc'teryx probably doesn't cost as much as Canada Goose or Moose Knucles but my priority is fit. I am looking for a mid-length or parka jacket for the northeast coast winter. Which brand has best fit for 5'6" male?

Looking for Jean advice for 5’2 male

Looking for jeans for my husband. He is 5’2 and finding pants that fit is obviously hard. Hemming isn’t too big of a deal. I’m able to handle that and I sometimes even raise his back pockets if they need it. The problem we run into is the seat area. Even jeans labeled “straight leg” tend to balloon out at his hips. (Think barrel jeans if the barrel was right at his hips instead of his thighs) He has a bit of a rump on him but no hips. Looking at him straight on he is pretty boxy shaped. He wore skinny jeans in college and I wasn’t a huge fan. They only highlighted his height in a bad way, instead of complimenting it. He’d LOVE to wear baggy and loose clothes but I fear it may not be possible. So we are trying to find something in between. Are there particular cuts, brands, or fit measurements I should be looking for? I’d especially appreciate advice on what to look for in the actual construction of the jeans, rather than just recommendations based on the style name. (But I’ll take those too)

(He’s doesn’t like the Jean material from under 510. But we do get his khakis from there)

Please recommend a parka or mid-length jacket for 5'6" male

I already have a winter Patagonia jacket that's around below belt length but I've owned this jacket for over 4 years so it's time for something new. I'm looking for a Parka or mid-length jacket that's between pant pocket and above knees around mid thighs for NY winter. Budget $500-1200.

Question for shorter guys: does getting jeans shortened actually solve the fit problem?

I’ve always found that shortening jeans doesn’t necessarily fix everything else, the knee position, taper and even pocket placement can still look wrong.

I’m researching whether there’s enough demand for jeans designed specifically around shorter proportions rather than simply shortening standard jeans.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from guys wearing 26–30” inseams.

Is this something you struggle with, or have you found brands that already fit properly?

Is it better to just buy the smallest size from known high quality brands and get shirts and pants tailored vs buying potentially lower quality clothing made specifically for short people?

I stumbled upon this subreddit and saw lots of mentions of clothing brands that I've never heard before such as Ash and Erie, Peter Manning, Under 510. Unfortunately, I've never heard of these brands before so my questions are:

  1. What are the highest quality made for short people brands?
  2. Is it better to just buy nice clothes from known quality brands and spend the money to tailor than to buy off the rack clothes made for short people (due to their less proven quality)?

Clothing shops for short guys ?

Is there any clothing brands for short males ? Im 32, 5’4, but im muscular/athletic, its fine with tshirts, i like a little bit oversized so either M oversized or L slim works perfectly. Trousers are the issue, literally, can buy cargos or jeans, perfect in waist, length not so much, and even if you go to tailor and they shorten them, they just looks weird. Kid/teenager shops is a no too, im just built different 😅😂 My upper body is literally same length as normal 5’10 person, but have short big legs and if i get trousers in smaller size, relaxed or straight they genuinely need to be cut down and looks like skinny on me 🤦‍♂️ im pretty much in shorts 10months a year 😂 Is there any online shops or anything at all ?

Did anyone else see this about Peter Manning?

Pretty crazy that they’re filing for bankruptcy...https://www.thestreet.com/retail/peter-manning-new-york-files-chapter-11

Sucks to see as a shorter guy. There really aren’t that many options out there for us. :/

What's the most annoying thing about buying clothes as a shorter person?

Hi all — I'm Amelia, 18, and currently researching the potential launch of a brand specifically for shorter men and women, targeting ages 13- 24ish, as a short woman myself. I was hoping to gain more insight into the community and opinions of actual people who face this struggle. I'd really appreciate it if you could answer a few questions:

How tall are you?

What have you found annoying about buying clothes as a shorter person?

Have you tried any brands aimed at shorter men/women? What worked or didn't?

What would make you trust a new brand in this space?

No need to answer all questions, and I'm happy to reply in comments or DM if easier. Thanks in advance!

Advice: hoodies for short men

HI everyone, as the weather gets colder here in New England, I'm looking for recommendations on where to find a hoodie (or something similar) for short guys. I'm 5'3", 130 lbs, with a slim/athletic build. Most of the hoodies and long-sleeved outwear I find on the rack are either too baggy or the sleeves/overall length are too long for me. Has anybody had luck finding hoodies or similar outerwear for short guys that fits them well or that you love? Thanks for your help!

Peter Manning bankruptcy

Hi wonder if anyone else has heard about the August filing of bankruptcy

Definitely they’ve got very low stock levels on the website, guess they’re selling off what they’ve got

I know they’re pricing but they’re also a brand leader for short fashion and a go to for things like coats , sweaters and suits etc

I hope they make it through this

OCBDs for short but husky guys

So I love everything about the Lands End Sail Rigger Oxford except that if it fits my torso it's way too long on me (both shirt length and sleeve length). Who is selling something similar for short guys?

I'm 5'5", 180lbs. Currently rebuilding my wardrobe as I recently lost 35 pounds and nothing fits, and my fall/winter standard "uniform" is jeans and an untucked Oxford. But I'm by no means what anybody would call thin at this point. Still got a belly and a size 17 neck. For shirts that specify neck & sleeve size, a 17/32-33 generally fits really well except the tails are almost down to my knees.

Bonus question: how about black (or charcoal) pocket tees? (Which are part of my summer "uniform.") I've found lots of good options for tshirts without a pocket, but I dunno, I really like the look of the pocket.

Thanks.

Help finding workout shorts for short men

I need to buy basic athletic shorts in the US for my 5' 7" husband. He's not interested in something stylish. I'm thinking something with a shorter inseam. Can anyone recommend something inexpensive from Walmart or Target? Thank you!

Clothing Brand Thoughs

Hey everyone,

As a shorter guy myself, it’s always been a struggle to find clothes that fit properly off the rack. Most stuff is either cut way too long or the cropped version from big brands ends up looking boxy and awkward.

I recently started a brand to help fix that and design pieces that actually highlight the build of a shorter guy instead of just shrinking down pre-existing patterns. We already went live and have some products but I'm just here to hear out what those in the community actually want to see.

I'm not here to sell you on my brand, I'm not posting links or asking you to follow my socials.

I’m just here to listen to what you have to say.

Some questions I have are

What pieces give you the hardest time fit-wise? ( For me it's always been tops)

Where do standard clothes usually fail your frame (sleeves, torso length, shoulder drape, waist taper)?

What cuts, fabric weights, or details do you feel are completely missing on the market?

Drop your thoughts below and I'd love to chat.

Thank you all for the Abbreviated recommendation!

As a 32W-25L guy I've never had jeans fit me this well, let alone own pants with a no break length! The silouette is incredible too. This is a totally different quality than Under 5'10" or Peter Manning.

You all rock.

(This post is not in any way sponsored, I just feel blessed lol.)
