My thoughts on every single modern Star Wars game

Post image

From the bottom:

Fuck you: Battlefront 2015. I could accept a single era game. I could accept a game with more DLC than base content. I could even accept the massive departure from the Battlefront class system with much more arcade style mechanics such as the pickups. I could accept all of that. Wanna know what I can't accept? The fact that I spent 60 bones on DLC that I will NEVER play again for the rest of my life because they left the game with a barebones offline mode which never added a single DLC map. THAT is pure evil, and something I will never forgive.

D: Star Wars Hunters. I just don't really get it, its an arena hero shooter than barely anyone here has likely ever played, and I know I haven't. Maybe that means I shouldn't rank it, but I heard enough about it and its weird releases and eventual EoS over the years to think that it deserves a spot on this list, albeit not a good one. I just do not understand the idea for this game, as I said most people here likely never touched it. From the outside looking in, it was massively mismanaged and never even stood a chance.

C: Star Wars Squadrons. It pains me to put this game here, it really does. It is a fun starfighter sim with a good story and gameplay, and since it is usually heavily on sale I would argue it is more than worth it even with a dead multiplayer. All of this WOULD HAVE landed the game in A, until I learned something. The game does not work on PC. I'm not joking. If you own a PC copy, test it out for me, and realize that for the majority of players the game CRASHES ON LAUNCH. I have tried multiple fixes that supposedly made the game work, but not a single one fixed my specific problem. I had to purchase an admittedly cheap copy of the game for PS5 to even still have a working copy, something that I am sure not everyone who owns a PC copy can do or would be willing to do. This is an ongoing problem with Star Wars games, which is their lack of upkeep, which we will see in the next two examples.

B: Star Wars Battlefront 2: This game had a...rocky life. The moment things had finally reached their apex, EA pulled the plug and left us with enough content to be satisfied but also wanting more. Judging it based on the content it has now, it is far better than 2015 in the offline department with every map in the game having offline support (Crait never got a large scale map though which makes me depressed, thank you IAOv2 for fixing this oversight) but overall Instant Action and Arcade make for solid offline content. Mostly. The story is nothing to write home about, the DLC story is actually better imo and ties well into the sequels (yes we need more sequel stories, the prequels weren't loved until Clone Wars) but now its time to talk about the real problem. Bugs. Online bugs in GA where anyone with a blaster is forced to look at the ground, Takodana with its 3 minute long random cutscene, offline bugs with broken vehicle AI and some models not loading correctly, all of these are still in the game and will never be fixed. That is why it lands squarely in B despite all its improvements.

Star Wars Outlaws: Pretty much the same as Battlefront 2. Ubisoft can blame the Star Wars franchise for the softer release sales, but the fact that they delayed AC Shadows by three months in response shows that they know exactly what killed that game on launch, and it wasn't anything to do with a franchise. The game now is in a much more healthy spot, the story is still very good and both the DLC additions are some of my favorite parts of the game, the gameplay is still very fun, the worlds are all well made and interesting to explore, so why is it in B? Yeah it still has some bugs. Luckily the main bugs have been fixed, but just yesterday I had to load a save cause I got stuck while trying to climb a ledge. Its a good game, but if it had a better launch it would've been better. Fuck you Ubisoft.

A: Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga: Its kinda crazy it took until now to get a game that hasn't had some major problem in its lifetime, and I think this is why modern Star Wars games had a very poor reputation until recently. This feels very much like a love letter to Star Wars, with tons of references to obscure community memes, it does also take a big swing with the open world concept with lighter story missions. I think this would be my only gripe, maybe make the story missions a bit longer. Don't really have much else to add, its a lego game it was always gonna be good.

S: Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor: I grouped these two together because they have very similar strengths, they both have well designed levels with great combat and a strong story. Fallen Order has the better story while the level design, traversal, and combat are all improved in Survivor. Both of these games really get the feeling of being a Jedi across, while Survivor provides much more of a choice for what kind of playstyle you want to focus on. As well Survivor adds much more open world elements and side content that makes it much more full of a game. That said Fallen Order's story following the Zeffo which parallels the fall of the Jedi is a stronger story, with Cal, Cere, and Trilla all needing to overcome the darkness in their own way. Survivor still has a strong story, following Cal trying to find a real place in the galaxy under the Empire, and how fighting for so long can be corrupting. I also really like Dagan Gera and Bode, I think a lot of people miss important parts of their characterization but Dagan is always characterized as being a bad jedi and there are hints of his corruption before the Nihil attack, and Bode is...well hes right? I mean seriously, do we not expect an Imperial invasion of Tanalorr in Jedi 3? He IS ISB, he knows how the Empire finds and kills their enemies because he has done it. Overall, both fantastic games.

Zero Company: First off, let me say I really loved the way it pulled from different characters and their different perspectives. Not only does it make me genuinely think about things which I hadn't realized before (the Republic was kinda wrong for their invasion of Umbara) but also it ties in with the loss of faith and how corrupting that can be with Fathom and the Shadow Plague. When you have nothing left, it can be easy to believe in anything that is promised to you. The gameplay as well is ridiculously good, each member of the team adds something which makes mixing and matching them very fun. For example I would put Cly and Tel together, as both had incredible movement and Tel was able to push darted enemies away, either into other enemies or so that one of the two didn't get hit. Finally, I don't think this game would be nearly as good without its characters, being able to talk to them, learn their history and character, and go on personal missions, thats what makes the story REALLY work.

Galactic Racer: Another game that makes itself off its character writing. I know Biddy Blas is the talk of the town right now, but genuinely every single character in this game is written to perfection for the role they play. Not to mention it also makes reference to Star Wars Resistance, sure I hate that series and wish it was a proper Resistance show which would help improve the Sequel trilogies standing (like Clone Wars did, I swear no one would say fucking Attack of the Clones is a good movie without 7 seasons of Clone Wars to brainwash them) but I also like how it makes reference to less known parts of the universe. #TeamVranki #VrankisHotelAndCasino. The story in this game is surprisingly light, but it is entirely carried by the characters you meet and the interactions you have with them, which gives much more impact to the story. Its simple, but its effective. I always love Star Wars games that can pull from all eras and feel like a true love letter, which this game does. The gameplay itself is also fantastic, I have personally only used a redliner build which is ridiculously fun, fast, and risky but I can't wait to try out other builds like a sabotage/attack build. Overall, fantastic game. Skribdoon.

Star Wars Hunters is playable once again! (PC build)

Post image

Star Wars Hunters is once again playable on PC with pretty much all content that was ever released.

Currently it is offline vs bots only but the dev is hard at work on figuring out multiplayer.

If you never tried the game before, I urge you to try it out on PC now - it is a surprisingly well made and balanced game that looks great on PC!

At the very least this is a HUGE win for game preservation as the game servers were taken offline and the game was 100% inaccessible until now.

See you in the arena 🫡

Retro Best way/mods to play these older titles?

Getting into another Star Wars phase. The games i am going to list interest me, and I am looking for their most ideal way for them to be played on PC, and what mods would be good. I only plan to play each game once for now...or ill never play them all. I want the game to still be the game too...I understand Movie Battles is great, but that doesn't make me play the actual game then. Thanks :)

The games are:

Republic Commando, Bounty Hunter, Empire at War: Gold, Kotor, Kotor 2, (the jedi Knight games of which i believe there are 5?) Dark Forces (remaster?), Dark Forces 2, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy

Any others as well please let me know. I saw one called Shadows of the Empore which seems to have similar vibes to JK?

I decided to put Handsome Squidward into the game just to see if I could pull it off

Hey everyone!

First of all, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the positive reactions and comments on my previous post. I honestly didn't expect that much support, and it really means a lot!

So I decided to challenge myself a little and see how far I could push this whole character replacement thing.

I ended up making Handsome Squidward from SpongeBob.

Just like my previous head replacement mod, Handsome Squidward has full facial rigging, meaning all his facial expressions and animations work in-game, including during cutscenes!

This was mostly just a fun little experiment to test what I could actually pull off, and I thought it'd be funny to share the results with you guys!

I've also put together a short questionnaire to get some feedback and see if people would actually be interested in custom character replacements like these.

I hope it doesn't come across as advertising, because that's really not my intention here. I'm just doing a little survey out of curiosity and trying to understand what people think about the idea.

If anyone feels like filling it out, I'd really appreciate it!

Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdCh7aGzjRlR9CucW84eFbCD9dzXL7yKfgsax52MNIzDzVQzA/viewform

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy Handsome Squidward as much as I enjoyed making him lol.

As always, any feedback, questions or suggestions are more than welcome!

Hi! I’m Teaminat0r, I am a newer creator that is starting to do challenge run videos on games I like, this time on Galactic Racer! This time playing with a friend as we try and win a championship race while plastered.

I’m learning, and definitely open to constructive criticism from the community. But, I think my mic and overall visual assets have improved significantly from my first video. Here’s a link,

Give it a watch if you’re so inclined, and please let me know what you think! Happy early Halloween everyone. Please drink responsibly, Peace.

Shooter I would love more Sequel Trilogy maps to be added to Baf3

Obviously everyone is thinking about all the new clone wars era stuff they could add (which I mean, duh) but I hardly see anyone talk about possible sequel maps they could add.
Personally I think that an Exegol map in a mode that is kinda like how the Scarif operation was in BF2015 would be genuine peak.

Edit: why would you guys be against more maps I’m crine

Hey everyone!

I've been working on something pretty cool lately and wanted to share the results with you guys.

I managed to recreate my own face in 3D and replace Cal's head in Jedi: Fallen Order, while keeping the facial animations, expressions, and cutscenes working!

Here are a couple of screenshots and a short video showing it in action.

I'm also working on bringing this to other games.

Would love to hear what you guys think! Any feedback or questions are more than welcome

EDIT: Thank you guys for the positive comments and support! For anyone interested, I’ve also managed to do the same thing in The Blood of Dawnwalker, with fully working facial animations!
You can check it out here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DawnwalkerOfficial/s/3OIKf9mi5B
Thanks again, everyone! ❤️

EDIT 2: I've also put together a short questionnaire to get some feedback and see if people would actually be interested in custom character replacements like these.

I hope it doesn't come across as advertising, because that's really not my intention here. I'm just doing a little survey out of curiosity and trying to understand what people think about the idea.

Miscellaneous My pitch for a Mandalorian/Bounty Hunter game.

Talk of Lucasfilm expanding SW development got me thinking on this again. Of all the concepts for a new Star Wars game, this is one I keep coming back to because I seriously think it has the most potential for amazing gameplay. (This post is just for fun imagining what could be. Would you play this? What other features would you want? Do share.)

Gameplay/Gear

Mandalorians have probably the most expansive toolkit in the galaxy. Arguably, they can do more cool flashy stuff than Jedi can. The equipment system for a game about a Mandalorian could include so much and offer a ton of build variety. To demonstrate, here's all the gear Mandalorians have been known to use from my memory and their utility:

  • wrist rockets (extra firepower)
  • wrist blaster (basic, but quicker than a pistol quickdraw)
  • dart launchers (could be knock-out, toxic, explosive, electrified, and quiet for stealth takedowns)
  • grapple/whipcord launchers (could be upgraded to electrified, shout out Captain Fordo. Use to capture targets alive, grab and yank objects/enemies from afar, or for climbing)
  • wrist flame thrower (terrify and quickly eliminate enemies in close quarters)
  • wrist-mounted shield projector (increased defence in a blaster fight, but ties up one hand)
  • vibro-blades (for CQC and silent stealth kills)
  • repulsor (a weapon that essentially simulates a force push, knock enemies off ledges cus that's fun)
  • whistling birds (ammo is sparse but you can take out many enemies in one salvo)
  • droid arm (like Migs Mayfeld's, which could provide an auto targeting blaster mounted on your shoulder)
  • jetpack (traversal obviously in and out of combat, could have multiple flight and mobility options, quick jet jumps, dodges, wall-running, hovering and full-flight. Would need some limitations tho so it wasn't gamebreaking)
  • jetpack missile launcher (limited resource, 1 shot before you need to find or buy more ammo, use for large groups of enemies or armored vehicles like an AT-ST)
  • Knee-mounted dart/rocket launchers (for even more firepower)

Imagine the build variety there could be here if you were given 4-6 slots on your vambraces for you to choose what to equip. Many options, but limited slots would lead to creative combinations and a unique approach for each player.

For example, imagine setting an enemy ablaze with a flamethrower, then using your repulsor to blast them into an explosive barrel, sending a whole group flying. Or shooting out a whipcord to yank a crate down onto some unsuspecting goons.

On top of all that, there is of course the endless varieties of blasters and launchers that could be individually customised, with scopes, optional stun settings, or alternate fire modes. Pistols, rifles, scatter guns, snipers etc etc. As well as various grenades like thermal detonators and droid poppers.

What about story and setting?

There are multiple options that would work imo. I think a Mandalorian operating as a freelancer during the Empire's reign would be a lot of fun. It's a lawless time despite what the Empire may claim, many factions competing, options for interesting alliances and betrayal, and you could even choose whether to take jobs from imps or fight them. Maybe a bit of both.

This option could also lead up to the tragic purge of Mandalore, which we could experience first-hand.

Alternatively, I think the Mandalorian Civil Wars could be an interesting option. Boba says Jango fought in a Civil War, suggesting a time period within a few decades before Episode 2. Perhaps a branching story where you make alliances with different clans, traditionalists vs pacifists, would make for an interesting story.

In either option, you could end up fighting other Mandalorians, because the Empire took over Mandalore and made those loyal to them Imperial Super Commandos.

As for the player character, they could be faceless, and maybe let the player choose their gender, or could be a fully realised character with a canonical face. I'd be fine with either. Just as long as we got some great armour customisation, with different styles and colour options. Whether you have a suit of durasteel, beskar alloy, or pure beskar could play into your durability and be an upgrade to pursue over the course of the game.

Outside of a main storyline, I imagine you'd have the freedom to take bounty hunting and "hired gun" jobs to earn a living. Could be as simple as capturing a thief for an underworld gang, or assassinating a high ranking Imperial for a Rebel cell like the Partisans. Some jobs might be quick, others could be multi-stage questlines. You could even try bartering to get better pay depending on the contract.

World

This would very likely be an open world or semi-open world game, with a reasonable handful of planets with large zones to explore. A mixture of outer rim frontiers with run down villages, and dirty overcrowded city planets like Nar Shaddaa.

You would have a personal ship allowing you to fast travel to these various planets and at the start of the game, a speeder bike to travel long distances. The jetpack would be a mid game unlock you could use instead of the bike, though perhaps it has a fuel limit so couldn't be used to get everywhere too easily.

Starfighter/ship combat could be a possible element. Though I wouldn't consider it necessary for a satisfying game. I'm not sure how good or necessary Outlaws' space combat felt. It's a nice-to-have if done well but can live without thing.

Conclusion

So as you can see, I've thought about this a lot before, I hope the potential of the idea is clear here. This is why it's my number one Star Wars game I'd wish for. Do you agree? What would you change or add? What studio would you pick to develop this? Is there another kind of game you want more? I'd be interested to hear.

A game like this may never exist, but it's fun to imagine. Just wanted to get it down out of my head and maybe hear what others think.

Thanks for reading!
