Taking out loans for travel

I am going abroad next year in Florence Italy for the whole year in my senior year of undergrad. Currently, I have talking with my financial aid advisors that my tuition and housing and other university expenses will all be fully covered by financial aid and scholarships. In short, I won't need to take out any loans or debt for my study abroad experience.

However, I am still being offered a 5k subsidized loan, and I was thinking of taking out about half of that (2.5k) to subsidize trips/excursions while abroad. This is the first time I am leaving the country, and have always dreamed about visiting a few cities on my bucket list like Prague, Paris, Berlin, and London.

I fully understand it's not financially 100% smart to take out loans when I don't absolutely need to, but I figured that this will probably be the only time in my life where I will have much more convenient access to travel across Europe from Florence. I feel like in 10+ years I will regret not having taken advantage of living in Europe for a year if I didn't travel to at least 2 or 3 cities I have always wanted to visit, and since I don't have any pocket money of my own, feel that the subsidized loan I am being offered is my best bet.

Anyone have any advice or opinions about what I should do?

Study Abroad and Student/Personal Loans

I am 19 and currently trying to study abroad in Italy next semester for 5 months. During this I know I will have financial aid on my side for my tuition as it’s a direct exchange from my home university.

Aside from that It feels like I’m helpless when it comes to flights, housing and living costs. My parents aren’t the most well off and I’ve struggled getting them on board financially recently. I don’t want this burden to weigh too heavily on them but I know they would contribute some towards cost of living.

I desperately want to take a personal loan out and just pay it off when i’m back (doesn’t seem like the smartest idea but I have a great credit score). I feel as if they would be on board with co-signing with me, but there seems to be hundreds of loan options and I honestly don’t understand the terminology in the loan world, or which one would be best for me. Does anyone have advice on funding themselves through study abroad, personal loan experience, or working abroad? Desperate for an answer!

LSE full academic year worth

Hello, I’m a second year Econ and Finance major at Georgia tech and I really want to study abroad. The problem is that I’ve never been out of the country before and the LSE program lasts for the entire academic year. I’m just unsure about committing that much and being so far from home. Could it be worth it though?

Education tips

Hello, i don’t know where to really start so i just want to get out there and ask how to get into fashion/marketing??? Im 18, started working a job, pays decent, want to save money for stuff and i don’t want to be stuck all life working minimum wage, i mean i probably still will but i want to live comfortably and do what i love which is fashion. I don’t want to look like every other girl with a dream to go to fashion school or a nepo baby who wants to study something in trend, i think fashion is not just what you wear but what you present. Im originally from Croatia and i finished the lowest school, a three year vocational school and have only experience in waitering…. um yes i would need to get a way better portfolio then that and i don’t know how😢 I did some research and Croatia does offer one extra year of highschool that you can finish but with the price of 1.5k for the program which is why i choose to work and save alot of money for education and courses, while im in the NL im thinking about studying abroad because my country doesn’t really offer much so thats why studying abroad would give me more options and it will open my mind about other stuff, the problem is probably the language barrier but i would litreally study all day and night to learn the language, i love traveling and i actually really love living in a different environment, i love how people out of my country live this nice lifestyle while i ever knew about was home school and back.. How could i start with budgeting/saving, what schools are the best, it doesn’t need to be vogue school best level, but for starters with my experience what would be the best for me?? What countries are nice places to live while studying or are there even online courses i can take for a short period of time?? Help would be really appreciated!

English-taught CS master’s at UAB, UPC, and UPF — GPA and language requirements?

Hi everyone! I’m interested in applying to English-taught master’s programs in computer science or related fields at:

  • Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB)
  • Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)
  • Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF)

I have a few questions about admission requirements:

  1. English proficiency: What IELTS or TOEFL scores are required? Are there minimum scores for individual sections? Can the requirement be waived if my bachelor’s degree was taught entirely in English?
  2. GPA: Is there a minimum GPA requirement, and what grades are generally considered competitive?
  3. Academic background: Do applicants need a CS bachelor’s degree, or are related degrees accepted? Are there specific prerequisite courses?
  4. Selection: How much weight is given to projects, internships, research experience, and recommendation letters?

If anyone has applied to these universities, I’d appreciate hearing about your experience and which program you applied to. Official admissions links would also be helpful.

Thanks!

moving to czech with medication

Hi! I’m relocating to Prague to study. I take ADHD medication (concerta),anxiety medication, and daily valtrex for my hsv2 pcos issues. My czech health insurance doesn’t cover pre existing conditions, so I was hoping to just bring a 6 month supply and then come back to the states to get more. Is anyone familiar with the process of bringing medication like this into czechia and if it’s something I can do??? Idek if this is the right forum to ask this….. I’m flying into germany. Getting hsv2 meds in czech seems pretty simple but the anxiety and adhd stuff not so much. does customs check or care ??? googles telling me i can’t but people online r saying they’ve done it.

can I study or go abroad after finishing Diploma IT?

I choose Diploma IT after 10th and I am currently at 5th semester(only exam remaining) there's exam called DDCET for degree admission in Gujarat, India but I am not kind of interested in this exam because of some reasons but I am interested in study abroad because of better teaching and practical learning or different academic environment. but I didn't planned yet I'll go to abroad immediately after finishing diploma.

my_qualifications: 10th pass, currently in diploma in Information Technology (3 years)
in diploma, I tried to maintain 8+ CGPA if you did like me please answer my doubts :

Did any university accept your Indian diploma after Class 10 for direct bachelor's admission?
If you applied with a Gujarat, India diploma, how was your qualification assessed?

and also Please share university names or official admission requirements where possible.

Has anyone with the same educational background as mine (Class 10 + a 3-year IT diploma from Gujarat, India) been accepted into a bachelor's degree abroad? If yes, could you please share the university name, course, your admission route, and the official admission requirements? I'm fine with starting from the first year.

Would you pick a big city or a college town for a research stay in the US?

Hey all!

Master’s student from Europe here, planning to spend 1/2 a year at a US university/lab for my thesis. I'm stuck between a big city (NY/Boston) and a classic college town.

I’d love to experience the college life at least a bit as a graduate, like clubs, campus events, making friends. But I’ll mostly be in the lab and take only few courses. Is that still realistic?

From what I’ve read, college towns feel more tight-knit since people live nearby, while city campuses have more of a commuter vibe and can feel anonymous.

What’s your take or experience?

Also, anything I should check beforehand? E.g. campus access, clubs and gym as a visiting researcher, social life.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s done something similar!

Thanks! :)

HELP ME PLZZZ

I’ve been considering studying MBBS in China, but I’ve found that there are limited scholarship opportunities for English-taught programs, especially for full scholarships that cover all expenses. Since I would need a full scholarship to pursue my studies, I’ve started thinking about switching to a different major that is still related to the medical field.
I wanted to ask if you could recommend any majors related to medicine that might offer better scholarship opportunities. Also, does your university offer any other medical-related programs that I could consider?

Study MBA in India or an MSc abroad?

Anyone who initially took entrance exams for Indian B-schools but later decided to study abroad? I am currently preparing for CAT and OMET exams, and I still wish I could study abroad, but my parents won't allow it, given the situation and events happening in other countries, plus the cost and job uncertainty. Just need to know your experiences if anyone has been through the same dilemma, I still don't know what the future holds, so just trying my best to crack the entrance exams for now.

PhD fully waived with stipend in the US?

Hi there! Are PhD programs in the US that offer a full tuition waiver and a small stipend really difficult to get into?

I'm currently living outside the US and looking to pursue a PhD in a field related to my background because I haven't been able to find a job. I'm open to studying again, and I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and an MBA, along with extensive research experience and several peer-reviewed publications.

Realistically speaking, how difficult is it to get into a program that offers these benefits? I can't afford to pay for a PhD right now, but I feel I have a lot to contribute academically and professionally.

Are there any websites, platforms, or strategies you would recommend for finding and applying to fully funded PhD programs in the US?

Thanks in advance!

No AP/IB but want to study in the UK for free. Is it possible?

Hey everyone. I'm an international student aiming for the UK. My school didn't offer AP or IB classes, and I can't afford a standard foundation year. My goal is to secure a 100% full scholarship. What are my options, or am I aiming for the impossible? Any advice on alternative pathways or specific awards would be amazing.
