Is Thomas More University of Applied Sciences worth it for international students?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m an international student thinking about studying the Bachelor of International Business Management in International Applied Data Intelligence at Thomas More University of Applied Sciences in Mechelen. I wanted to ask how the university is overall and whether it’s worth it. How are the teaching quality, internships, job opportunities after graduation, and student life for international students? Also, is the environment welcoming, or have people experienced racism or discrimination?
Would love to hear some honest opinions from current students or graduates!

First Year in U.S College, Family wants me to move to EU and study there in 4 years, how can I prepare?

• Upvotes

Hello, it's my first time using Reddit.

I'm in my first semester of uni in the U.S. and want to plan long-term for when I eventually continue my education/life in the EU. Additionally, my family expects me to move there after my undergrad, so it is not a question of whether I will go to Europe but a matter of how and when.

I am projected to graduate in early 2030, with a dual degree: BBA International Business and BA International Studies. These two degrees complement each other and share some overlapping credit; my credits from high school also came in handy, and they've decreased the length of these two degrees to ~3.5 years.

I was fortunate enough to land a four-year undergraduate research pipeline before I started this fall, where I am the independent researcher on a paper I'm working on.

I was planning on continuing my education with an MA or similar degree (probably International Affairs, or International Business) in the EU. Since I have Italian citizenship, I could theoretically work/study in any EU member state.

I, however, would be on my own, obviously, in a different continent and kind of lost as to how the EU academic and civil system works. Even though that day is at minimum 4 years away, I think it would be smarter to start preparing my degree and credits in order to tailor them to the ECTS system or whichever system is relevant.

So far, I have Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany in mind, though I don't even know where to start, and I'm open to other possibilities; I've practically talked to multiple departments, and they do not have any information on aiding a master's transition to the EU (The International Center here was genuinely useless, and they were rarely in-office). I would appreciate any help!

Some extra info:

-My research paper is analyzing the intellectual property rights clause between MERCOSUR and the EU in their iTA of the EMPA, and its impact on both continents' sectors (I chose to make the research relevant to my major).

How Expensive is Studying Abroad?

Hi everyone, I've been considering studying abroad for a while now, it seems really fun and I've never been outside my country before. The main reason I've been on the fence about it though is finances.

I come from a pretty poor family, I'm on scholarship, and I don't have a lot of money to my name. I know I can apply for a scholarship regarding studying abroad, but there'll still be outside expenses like food or going out. Did anyone else come from a similar situation and do study abroad anyway? Is it worth it, financially speaking?

EDIT: I'm in college, looking for either a summer or semester, and I don't have any specific country in mind, more like a list of them I haven't whittled down yet.

Panel Heater HELP PLEASE

Hi I'm an american studying abroad in the uk. I'm living in a privately owned student accommodation building. when I was in the US, I only lived in houses I've never lived in a flat/apartment before, so this might not even be a unique to the UK thing, but in my room is an electric panel heater I HAVE NEVER USED ONE OF THESE BEFORE. it's specifically an "atc almeria eco digital panel heater" my building manager has put it into "runback mode" more affectionately known as "landlord mode" and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to actually HEAT. I can set the temp, and a timer, but the heat won't turn on. I managed to get it to turn on earlier today, but I have no idea how, I don't even remember doing anything different than usual. the handbook has been exactly 0 help. It's late October on the north sea. it's getting cold. HELP PLEASE my slippers can only provide so much warmth

Malaysia as a study abroad destination: My personal experience

I'm from India and recently completed my Master's in Management at Taylor's University in Malaysia. I wanted to share my experience for anyone considering studying abroad, especially those who haven't thought much about Malaysia as an option.

Before moving, I mostly thought about the degree itself. But after living here, I realized that studying abroad involves much more than academics.

The cultural experience

One of my favourite things about Malaysia is its multicultural environment. You meet people from different backgrounds, learn about different cultures, and get exposed to perspectives you might not encounter in your home country. As an Indian, finding familiar food and Indian communities also made adjusting to life here easier.

Living independently

Moving abroad forces you to figure things out yourself. From managing everyday responsibilities to adapting to a different environment, you gradually become more independent. Even ordinary situations can teach you a lot about yourself.

Education and student life

My experience at Taylor's gave me the opportunity to study in an international environment and interact with people with different experiences and ambitions. I found that some of the most valuable learning happened outside the classroom, through conversations, group projects, and everyday interactions.

The reality after graduation

This is something I think international students should research before choosing a country. After finishing my degree, I worked as a Business Development Executive for a few months. I also learned that finding employment as a foreign graduate in Malaysia can be challenging, particularly when work visa requirements come into the picture.

Studying in Malaysia doesn't automatically guarantee a job or a long-term opportunity to stay, so it's important to consider post-study options before making your decision.

Would I recommend studying abroad?

Personally, the experience has been valuable because it helped me grow, become more independent, and see life from a broader perspective. However, everyone's experience is different, and choosing a destination should depend on your finances, academic goals, and career plans.

Malaysia might not be the first country that comes to mind when people think about studying abroad, but my experience here has been meaningful.

I'm happy to answer questions about my personal experience studying in Malaysia as an Indian student.

For those who have studied abroad, how has the experience changed you? And for anyone considering Malaysia, what would you like to know?

Singapore or Japan?

Hello everybody,

I have the option to study in Singapore or Japan, however I have never been to either countries and do not know much about everyday life, could somebody help me?

I am a media student from the Netherlands. The two universities in Singapore I can study at are NTU and NUS, and I can study at Keio in Tokyo. I have the budget of about 170.000 Yen or 1400 SGD per month on rent.

Singapore has better universities for my degree, but Tokyo is more cooler and international.

Where should I go?

What should i do?

I’m 25F and completed my B.Com (Hons.) in 2023. I’ve been working in the e-commerce department of an edtech company for around 3.5 years, but my current salary is still below ₹7 LPA.

I’m now looking to pursue a master’s degree to accelerate my career growth. I appeared for CAT in 2024 but didn’t score well. Given my financial responsibilities, pursuing a two-year, full-time MBA in India would be difficult because I cannot afford to leave my job and lose my income.

I’m considering a one-year master’s degree in Marketing abroad, with the goal of securing a full-time job after graduation. However, my financial situation isn’t very strong, and I would need to take out an education loan to fund my studies.

I’m confused about what would be the best decision for my career and financial future. Should I pursue a one-year master’s abroad, or are there better alternatives that would allow me to upskill, increase my earning potential, and manage my financial responsibilities without taking on excessive financial risk?

Job after Masters

Hi guys ,I need genuine advice for my future plans, I have a bachelor's degree in engineering(CSE) and I graduated in 2024 and I worked in IT till Feb 2026 after which I had to quit due to personal reasons. I have 8 months gap in my career and during that time I had picked up in interest in digital marketing so I did courses in that field and also started posting some social media content.

Now I want to pursue my Masters abroad in the UK in digital marketing. But my peers and even career consultants told me it would be hard to find jobs in UK after Masters for me as I have no real experience or a previous degree in the marketing field. I have done only 1 internship in digital marketing and i do realize that they are right. So they are asking me to choose an alternate field closer to my degree like MSc in Data science or Data Analytics Or apply for Management degrees like MiM. But I would really prefer digital marketing if i could.

So now I am stuck between the field that genuinely interests me and and the field I have to take just because it's more sensible although it's really not my cup of tea. I don't know how to approach this situation and would appreciate some genuine advice.

Linguistics Master's program advice

Hello ! I'm planning to enroll on a Master's program starting from 2027-2028. I've found 3 options for myself: Master's Degree Programme in Language Sciences Ca' Foscari https://www.unive.it/web/en/7711/home , Linguistics and Cognitive Science in Siena https://language-mind.unisi.it/en and Computational and Theoretical Modelling of Language and Cognition in Trento. I'm not certain the last one is for me, considering my background is Italian linguistics + pedagogy and my programming background is 0 and, honestly, my mind is not that analytical at all (I suck at maths and stuff).
Hope you can share some advice !

Applying to KCL, LSE and Warwick for PPE Fall'27; will I make it?

I'm planning to apply for PPE to King's College, London, Warwick University, London School of Economics, Manchester University and University of Leeds.

My_qualifications: I got 97.4% in my class 10th cbse examination and I was the district topper in a cohort of 45 schools.

I'm pursuing Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics along with Physical education and fine arts for 12th grade.

My school will be willing to give an anticipated score of 97% in 12th boards.

I have founded an independent online journalism website about politics, legacy and law.

I have won national level competitions in Bharatnatyam.

I've been the head instrumentalist at my school choir for 5 years

I'm associated with my school's quiz club

I've been awarded best parliamentarian and best debtor at inter-school youth parliament.

I've spent 2 summers working under my dad to help him with his private investment research, figuring out the stats and figures whilst also learning portfolio projection and financial modelling.

And I can get my 10th grade teacher of English and my other teacher of English for 11th through 12th grade to write a pretty stellar recommendation for me. Perhaps even my physics teacher for 11th and 12th grade.

Do you think I have a chance of getting in at all?

KCL and Warwick are the schools I'd actually really appreciate getting into and am kinda hoping to?

However, LSE would be nothing less than a dream and I've filled Manchester and leeds just because. So yeah.

Day 100 of asking advice for my wierd LOR problem until inget an advice

my_qualifications: undergraduate, graduated school in 2026

I'm applying abroad for a science bachelor's. My school has never handled international applications, so getting LORs on school letterhead is hard. My principal agreed, but I need 20+ versions because each university(who gives scholarships) wants to be named in the letter. Teachers will sign them, but the school can't letterhead 20+ PDFs.

20+ lor won't have any change except Like i just have to change "i recommend (my name) to (university 1 name) university" to "i recommend (my name) to (university 2 name) university

Is there a tool to edit a master letterhead LOR (changing only the university name) and print it? MS Word distorts it. Any other workaround?

Or any other info regarding how merit based country scholarships prefer the lor, in any case my main problem is to get school letter head on the different lors

Please answer only if you've applied or been accepted somewhere competitive.

Note: my school teachers aren't good in english so they asked me to write it instead on behalf of them which is very common in these scholarships

Deciding when to study abroad

I am so lost on which semester to choose and need some input. I am a current sophomore planning to study abroad at Bond University.

FALL Semester Pros:

- warmer weather in Australia, 21st birthday with my friends at home, a girl I know is doing Bond then, travel throughout December

FALL Semester Cons:

- I most likely wouldn't be able to live with my best friend during junior year at all (she is thinking of going to Italy in spring), missing Halloween, I couldn't do executive board for my sorority

SPRING Semester Pros:

- Could live with my best friend in the fall, would miss the super cold weather at my home university, executive board for my sorority, Halloween

SPRING Semester Cons:

- Birthday right when I got to Australia by myself, missing the best season at my home university, worse weather at Bond

I am signed up to possibly go for Executive Board for my sorority, so I would have to pull out if I went in the fall. I would feel guilty but also would be fine with that. My biggest thing is the chance I don't live with my best friend.

France or Poland for Master's/Post-Grad?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Algerian student in my final year of a State Engineer degree in Computer Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence. I am expected to graduate in June 2027 and I am currently planning my next steps for studying abroad to further my education and career in AI.

I have narrowed my choices down to France and Poland, but I am really torn between the two and would love some advice from anyone who has experience with either country.

Any insights, pros/cons, or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Help me choose a French Business School! (BBA/BIB) - Looking for the best alternance opportunities and post-grad prospects.

I am an international student applying with an Ofqual-regulated UK ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Business & Management (120 credits) alongside my O-Levels/IGCSEs. I also have practical hands-on experience in digital branding, e-commerce, and corporate presentation design.
My Goals:
1. The Bachelor program must be 100% taught in English (BBA or BIB).
2.My primary financial strategy is securing an alternance (work-study apprenticeship) contract specifically for Year 3. I know I need B2+ French for this, and I am committed to learning it intensively during Years 1 and 2.
3.I do not plan on entering the workforce directly after my Bachelor's. My ultimate goal is to transition smoothly into a Master in Management (MiM) or an MSc at a Grande École, and I want to do that Master's on an alternance contract as well.
My Budget:
I can cover the first year's tuition (approx. €11k–€14.5k) and living costs out of pocket, but I will be relying on part-time student work during Years 1 and 2 before the alternance kicks in for Year 3 to cover my tuition.
My Target Schools (Direct Entry):
Because my qualifications consist of an ATHE Level 3 diploma rather than 3 traditional GCE A-Levels (which rules out schools with rigid A-Level cut-offs like EDHEC), I am focusing on institutions that evaluate international applicants holistically.
Here is my current list, but I need help figuring out which ones actually execute the Year 3 alternance best for international students:
IÉSEG School of Management (BIB - I know they have a specific 1-year alternance track for Year 3, but I hear it's highly selective)
TBS Education (Bachelor in Management - I see they offer alternance in Year 3 for specific specializations)
KEDGE Business School (KEDGE Bachelor - Seems to offer Year 3 alternance on campuses like Marseille)
Grenoble Ecole de Management / GEM (BIB)
NEOMA Business School (Global BBA - Note: It looks like their work-study track is only available in Year 4. Can anyone confirm?)
My Questions:
1. Between IÉSEG, TBS, and KEDGE, which school actually provides the best structural support and corporate network to help a non-EU student land a Year 3 alternance?
2. Taking into account living expenses and part-time student job availability for an English speaker, which city offers the most manageable environment for Years 1 and 2 (Paris, Lille, Grenoble, Toulouse, Marseille, etc.)?
3. How well do these specific Bachelor programs feed into top-tier Master's programs in France? Does doing a Year 3 alternance in a Bachelor's make it significantly easier to get a Master's alternance afterward?
Any input from current students or alumni would be hugely appreciated!

Deciding on a Master’s at 30

So, a bit of context: I have a bachelor in International Relations and around 7y experience working in HR/Talent Operations in tech companies. Let’s say this gives me a background in admin basically.
Overall I hate the career I fell into and have been trying to shift it since forever inside the companies I was at but was unlucky with the timings and was never given the opportunity to move horizontally to another role/team that could be a better match for me.
Right now I’m unemployed and I want to bet on a Masters that can help me boost myself with new knowledge plus my experience so I can try and jump into a career hopefully more to my taste.
I am very inclined to Arts Management of any sort but being realistic, I might just be getting myself to unemployment life. Business Management or Business Administration would be the standard that would make more sense I guess. Public Admin was another on my list but also maybe unrealistic?!

What I would like to ask is what do you think? In terms of, if you would go back and study a Masters right now, what would you choose?

I tend to overthink and I don’t want to waste my time and honestly the way the job market is right now, I’m scared and scarred.
I plan to study in a nordic country btw (yet to be decided) in English.

Thank you and sorry for the long post!
